oh my god. the smell of this stuff is straight up FUNKY. i heard they changed the smell since i last bought some, though, so maybe the new stuff smells better. in my opinion (and in the opinion of basically ever person that's been around me when i sprayed some of this) the smell is a combination of sour grapes and soiled bedsheets. by sour i mean rancid, rotten, expired, gone bad. and by soiled bedsheets i mean that smell that hits you them moment you enter a retirement home. yep. it makes your hair smell like rotten grapes and PEE. i tried to pinpoint the smell for so long-- i knew it smelled like rotten grapes, but it took me a while to realize that the other underlying smell was urine. due to the smell, i haven't gotten too many chances to actually use this product- i've used it twice. although i almost puked from the grape/pee smell, i did like its performance. What i wanted was a spray that would hold my curls but not be rock solid- i wanted them to still be bouncy and natural. this spray did do that. but at the expense of smelling like grapes/pee? its just not worth it. i would not recommend this product to anyone, ever.
Lipstick -Cover Girl - TruShine - Nude Shine 470 [DISCONTINUED]
princesspeachx 8/24/2009 11:16:00 AM
I love this lipstick. i discovered this lipstick on my hunt for a concealer-esque 60's-era nude lipstick. Nude shine is the opposite of what i was looking for, but still a great find none the less! it is the most lively, natural looking color in my opinion. it has the slightest hints of pink and beige, which creates a natural looking lip color that is subtle but beautiful. it really enhances your natural lip color. the name describes it well- it's nude and it makes your lips shine! it isn't sticky whatsoever like lipgloss, but it has the smoothest, softest texture. it doesn't settle into fine lines at all, or else it hasn't ever for me. overall, this is the ideal everyday nude lipstick.
Powders -Coastal Scents - mica powder- chameleon violet
princesspeachx 7/23/2009 4:48:00 PM
I got a sample of this for around $1. its a huge sample too! i absolutely adore this color, it really is a chameleon violet- its one of those colors that kind of change hue depending on which way the light hits it. it is such a gorgeous color. i used it as eyeshadow, but i think i might try it in nail polish. i definitely will either buy more samples of this color or buy the 1 oz jar- but idk if i could ever use as much as 1 oz of any mica! (thats bigger than like, a dixie cup!)
holy mother of god, these make colors SOOO vibrant, i cannot stress that enough. i swatched a million colors over the five different duo cream shadows i got (meaning i have 10 colors!) and every single color's intensity was multiplied by 10. i have berry mix, olive, butter pecan, blueberry, and black licorice. i took off one lippie because the packaging is a little cheapy feeling, and the fact that these crease a little bit. but if you apply a sheer amount and blend it in/up, it doesnt seem to crease, or at least it hasnt for me. im pretty satisfied with these, they definitely work well as bases.
Scrubs -Garnier - Nutritioniste Nutri-Pure Microbead Cream Scrub
princesspeachx 7/23/2009 4:31:00 PM
I like this. it makes my skin very soft and lively looking. at first i was head over heals in love with this, i had been using my moms and so i got my own. i think its either the fact that its brand new and there are more scratchy particles (not the beads, im pretty sure there are other scratchy chrystal things in it other than the beads) than an old bottle, or maybe they changed the formula. i still really love it, its just a tiiiny bit too scratchy, so i just use a light hand while scrubbing my face. i absolutely love the smell of all garnier products. i use a daily scrub as my cleanser (biore detoxify daily scrub- LOVE IT) so i dont use this 2-3 times a week, i use it more like once a week. it hasnt broken me out, it hasnt dried me out. i will probably repurchase.
I got near peach and coral funk. i really love these two glosses. i use near peach for my everyday nude lip-seriously, almost everyday. its a perfect glitterless nude peach color for everyday. i have tan skin so it doesnt look as pink on me as it does on white people, so if you have medium tan skin, get this for nude lips. it is a tiny bit stickier than i expected, but its definitely not too sticky. I hated the applicator at first because i do not ever use lip brushes, i like the spongey tip kind or i just use my finger, but the applicator is actually growing on me. i still usually apply it and then rub it in with my finger, but i think im starting to get the hang of it. i still would have preferred a spongey applicator, so i took off one lippie, but most people really love the applicator so i may be a minority with that opinion. it has pretty damn good staying power, probably the best of any lipgloss i own. the color pay off is wonderful. i think i will end up getting many more of these!!!
Loooove it!! this is probably the brush that i use the most. its well tapered, soft, and the perfect size. the handle is nice and smooth; however, i received mine with a small dent. it doesnt really effect my love for this brush, though. the ferrule and the entire brush for that matter is well made, and for only $1 i think i might just stock up on these so that i can have different ones for different colors.
I will never buy another brand tweezer again! these tweezers are AMAZING, and ive tried a LOT of high end tweezers. ive bought tweezers for $20 that were the same quality as the E.L.F. tweezers, and the E.L.F. tweezers are $1!! theyre incredibly sharp and they meet perfectly, meaning theres no space for hairs to slip through. the edge is perfectly straight and the tweezers are slanted perfectly. these tweezers are a god send. i feel like, since theyre so well made and clamp together with absolutely no space in between, it takes less time to do my brows since i can grab several hairs at once. these would also make good splinter grabbers for that same reason. i think this will be my brand of tweezer for the rest of my tweezing life.
I honestly like this a lot. it makes my face look baby soft and smooth. it looks a little too perfect, actually, so i soften up the too-soft look by blotting a tiny bit of moisturizer on top of it and spraying a liiiight spritz of fix+ at arms length away. the powder is VERY fine and soft, like flour. it applies smoothly and evenly. i use this powder as my after-liquid-foundation setting powder. the only problem i have is that too much product gets above the sifter. thats a small problem though, so i still gave it 5 lippies.
Makeup Brushes -Coastal Scents - Round Contour Brush
princesspeachx 7/23/2009 5:28:00 AM
I like this brush. i havent quite gotten used to it yet, so i havent used it too many times, but i like it. its a little stiffer than i expected but it still works as a sharper crease brush, kind of like a the mac 219 pencil brush. if you're not careful, itll make too sharp of a line. its very soft, though, and is fairly well tapered. i feel the tip isnt quite as flat as id have liked it to be- it isnt pointed, though. overall im satisfied.
Makeup Brushes -Coastal Scents - Italian Badger Angle Brush
princesspeachx 7/23/2009 5:23:00 AM
This brush is my HG blush brush! i absolutely adore this brush for blush, bronzer, contouring. i only use it for blush, though, and im thinking about getting another for bronzer. its incredibly well made from the hair to the handle! it smelled like chemicals when i first got it but i kind of like chemical smells and it didnt bother me. i used it once before washing it, and i smelled it before i washed it and the smell had already gone away, imagine that. this brush is soooo soft too. i dont think anything will happen to this where id have to buy it again because its well made and i take care of my brushes, but if anything were to happen to this id definitely repurchase.
Makeup Brushes -Coastal Scents - Chisel Detail Mini Brush
princesspeachx 7/23/2009 5:19:00 AM
i LOVE this brush. its TINY. i cant even compare it to anything, its that small. ive heard some people have gotten crappy ones, but i got a good one. even though its tiny, all the hairs are perfectly tapered just like a good eyeshadow brush is- the only difference is that its like, 1/50th of the size haha. i use it in the inner corner, the lower lashline, and for precision detailing, like when i want just a slight hint of a color next to a main color, or something. i love this brush and all the CS brushes ive gotten so far!
Palettes -Coastal Scents - Ultra Shimmer 88 eye shadow palette
princesspeachx 7/23/2009 5:16:00 AM
I love the 88 palettes. i didnt think id like this one because some swatches ive seen showed this palette to look like crappy little kid make up. i guess cameras kind of make the sparkles look much bigger than they are. anyway, i took off one lippie for the potentially harmful chemicals that are in these eyeshadows. aside from that, im soo happy with these two palettes and with everything i got from coastal scents. coastal scents has a tendency to be inconsistent with quality in the same product, meaning one person will get a good one, another person will get a terrible one. this is especially true in the brushes. i just happened to get amazing quality in everything i got, i guess im lucky. anyway, i love this palette and will repurchase if i ever use it up- thats a big if.
wow, i love this. i took off one lippie for the ingredients, though. the chemicals in these eyeshadows are really bad for you. aside from that, i use these palettes just about every day. they are so vibrant and perfect for me-i love bright-ass make up like hot pink, hot purple, etc. they are a little too soft- which leads to fallout and a bit of a mess on your palette. these are things i can look past because i absolutely adore these palettes. every single thing ive ever gotten from coastal scents has been complete quality. ive gotten many things, too. palettes, micas, glitters, lip glosses, and brushes. coastal scents is inconsistent with their quality in brushes and palettes, but i got lucky and got superb quality in everything i got.
i reeeeeally like this as a base. its absolutely the most perfect shade base for my skin. it has a warmer tone to it, its a tiny bit pinkish. its a pinkish beige. its a little ashy, like haircolors can be ashy- it isnt gray, its just a low, faded looking tone, if that makes sense. the product dries kind of like powder but not really. it just isnt sticky and liquidy... it isnt crusty, either, i cant explain it. its nice though, and easy to apply eyeshadow on top of. a lot of people have a problem with the tube, but i find this makes it so a bunch doesnt spurt out: hold your finger with light pressure on the uncapped tip and VERY gently squeeze the sides, while letting your finger up VERY slowly and gently. only lift your finger enough for as much to come out as you want to use, stop squeezing, and slide your finger off. put the cap back on quickly. ive never had ANY problems with too much product coming out this way. i will repurchase for sure.
