Palettes -Urban Decay - Book of Shadows Vol. IV

I was sooo excited when I heard UD was coming out with a new BOS. I do consider myself a UD palette collector. To date I have BOS 1-4, AIW BOS, 15th Anniv, Get Baked, Naked, Ammo, Deluxe and 2 (older) Face Cases. So I have a good amount of experience with UD's Eyeshadows. That being said I sadly have to say this palette is lacking in the quality I have come to appreciate and expect from UD. I will say that I do like the palette, as well as the overall colour selection. I do find myself reaching for neutrals more then I used to, so the lack of brights wasn't a problem for me. I was very happy to see that the palette came with a 24/7 Liquid Liner instead of a pencil liner. I had been wanting to get a one of these after I swatched them at Sephora. I've never used a UD mascara before so the inclusion of the Supercurl was cool as well. I have used it a couple times now and it does hold a curl well, but I don't find it does much for length or volume. As far as the speaker and QR codes, I find that to be completely gimmicky and useless to myself since I don't have a Smartphone. I think UD should just make the tutorials public on their website for all to enjoy. Onto the shadows. 6 of these we have seen before and 10 are new. I REALLY wish that if UD is going to continue to put permanent shadows in their palettes they will stop doing repeats. We have seen Gunmetal, Baked and Sin way to many times! There is lots of other awesome shades they could have chosen instead. Blue Bus*: .Wouldn't really describe this as blue, its more of a periwinkle. It swatches ok, does take a few swipes to get it opaque. It is a dead ringer for MAC's Parfait Amour. Gunmetal: Dark steel grey with silver glitter. Cobra:Very dark brown with golden shimmer, sometimes looks greenish Baked: Brassy Gold, very metallic. Smooth and pigmented Bender*: Forest green w/fine gold shimmer.Great pigmentation MAC Humid dupe Gravity*: Dark metallic purple w/multi coloured glitter. Pretty to look at, hard to work with. Very dusty & patchy. Lots of fallout Lost*: Bronzy Brown, awesome pigmentation, very creamy and soft Hijack*:Blueish/green with a soft sparkle. Similar texture to Gravity minus the fallout Midnight Cowgirl: A permanent shade I didn't own, thankfully. Its a light gold with gold sparkle, lots of fallout. Pretty shade tho. Sin: Pink Champagne. Creamy and pigmented Midnight Rodeo: Shimmery Brown w/silver sparkle, lots of fallout Crystal*: Icy light blue with blue shimmer. Very sheer, takes alot to build up. Very etheral looking Bust*: Soft light taupy brown. Great pigmentation Missionary*: A lighter version of Bust Skimp*: Satiny beige. Technically this isn't new as it was available previously as a single? or gift with purchase? Nice highlight shade Similar to MAC's Ricepaper Zepher*: Shimmery white w/slight gold duochrome. I love this shade I've just started to play around with this as I have only had it for a few days. So far my favourite shades are Bust, Skimp, Zepher and Lost. I love the look of Gravity but when I used it today it was difficult to get opaque and messy. Would I purchase this again if something happened to mine..yes, because I want it in my collection. I will be posting looks using this palette on my blog, so please stop by if you'd like to see. Thanks for reading:) http://makeupkitty-beautycentral.blogspot.com/

I just received this as a sample from Sephora with an order I placed. I was really excited to smell this, BUT EWW so NOT GOOD. To me it smells like those old oily bath beads my Oma (Grandma) used to use. I even wore it for a few hours hoping it would smell better over time. Nope. I can't really comment on the packaging or price since this is just a sample.

Palettes -Urban Decay - Book of Shadows [DISCONTINUED]

**********BOOK OF SHADOWS VOL 2************* My review is for Vol 2. I just received mine yesterday from sephora.com. LOVE!!!! I have both 1 & 2 and they are both AMAZING! This one includes 16 eyeshadows (7 of which are new), 2 travel sized 24/7 eyeliners in Bourbon (brown) & Zero (black) as well as a baby Primer Potion. The colours are: described by UD & (IMO) *= new to this palette Perversion-Matte Black (also in BOS Vol 1) Gunmetal-Gunmetal Grey W/Silver Micro-glitter (I had very little fallout) Ecstasy-Bright Violet Sheen (my absolute fav) *AC/DC-Deep Eggplant Shimmer (reminds me of the deluxe shadow in ransom, but lighter) *Nylon-Champagne Sparkler (more of a silver taupe w/silver micro-glitter, I wouldn't describe it as champagne. Identical to Sidecar from the BOS Vol 1) Sellout-Pink Champagne Shimmer (I don't find it to have any pink to it IMO, gorgeous tho) *Mushroom-Taupey-Gunmetal (not quite brown, not quite grey) *Sphynx-Pink Sparkle/Shimmer (light pink w/rainbow micro-glitter, small amount of fallout) Half Baked-Rich Gold (peachy-gold) Twiced Baked-Brownie Shimmer (w/gold micro-glitter) Midnight Cowboy Rides Again-Beige w/tons of silver glitter (TONS & TONS of glitter, my least fav) YDK-Bronzed Mocha w/golden glitter (very very little glitter) *Jinx-Bright Blue Shimmer (gorgeous!!!) Flipside-Electric Teal w/Blue Sheen (swatches alot like Jinx, but has some green to it and not as pigmented) *Homegrown-Bright Green Shimmer (very very close to Absinthe from BOS Vol 1. I find Absinthe is slightly more golden) *Misdemeanor-Deep Teal Sparkle ( I don't find it sparkly at all, its almost matte IMO) Overall I think this is a great investment. Its $48 USD, and $58 CAD (which is what I paid for it), but for 16 shades that works out to $3.62 a shadow not to mention the liners and the mini udpp. Also the top portion of the palette contains a nice sized mirror and a look book (not instructional tho), more for inspiration I guess. The only downside to this, and the reason I took of one lippy was because if you already own Vol 1 as I do you have 2 that are identical (perversion and nylon=sidecar from vol 1) as well as homegrown being nearly identical to absinthe from vol 1. I do have to give kudos to UD for including a shade that can be used a highlighter (sellout), vol 1 really didn't have one unless you count Midnight Cowboy which is such a glitter bomb:( There seems to be a good amount of product in each pan as I have had vol 1 for over a year and haven't hit pan on any of them. I'm hoping that they create a vol 3 next year. I love UD shadows, but only ever buy them in palettes. I find that they are richly pigmented and silky smooth. Better than MAC which I find hit n' miss depending on the finish. Hope this helps:)

I think what sold me on this product was the brushes. It comes with 2 brush one for lining and one for shadows. They are both awesome. I reach for these everyday when I do my eyes. It also comes with a nice creamy basic black eyeliner. The shadows in this kit look great but go in really badly. I tried this kit today (even thought I've had it for over 2 months) and I ended up with glitter and powder all over my face. The base included in this kit is nothing special. I would def not buy this again, except I would buy the brushes again.
