Mascara -Dejavu (Imju) - Fiberwig Lash Knockout
rated 5 of 5
pretprof 3/22/2010 3:02:00 PM

This mascara has changed my life. I was a little skeptical, I'll admit, but after trying it out through long days and concert performances (I'm a classical musician), I'm sold. I agree with a previous reviewer - to avoid any clumpiness, just comb through lashes right after application while the product is still wet. It'll dry and your lashes will look much longer than they started!

Conditioner -Kiss My Face - Whenever Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
pretprof 10/27/2008 3:38:00 PM

I tried both the shampoo and conditioner in this line. I agree with others - it smells like lime Jell-O, which I like. (It's refreshing compared to things that smell like artificial watermelon or vanilla or cupcakes or other nonsense like that.) The shampoo is nothing to write home about, but this conditioner is great - moisturizing and detangling but not heavy. I use it after washing with the Olive and Babassu bar shampoo from Chagrin Valley Soap and it works really well for me - it's the only combination where my extremely straight, fine hair looks good, isn't tangled and isn't greasy after a couple of days.

Scrubs -C.O. Bigelow - Fruit Extract Body Scrub
rated 5 of 5
pretprof 1/6/2006 2:15:00 PM

My problem with scrubs is that the majority seem to use salt granules, and the residue that these seem to leave feels a little weird on my skin (it's the salt that bugs me, not the oil in the scrub). Because this one doesn't use salt or sugar and has very fine grains, I don't have to worry about that residue, or about the usual "shower melt" when you use a scrub in the shower. It smells fabulous and I love the fruit extracts. A bit pricey, but totally worth it - this is now one of my staples.

Cleansers -Alba Botanica - Sea Lettuce Cleansing Cream
rated 5 of 5
pretprof 11/3/2005 1:49:00 PM

I love this cleanser - removes everything but doesn't strip, and leaves the skin feeling very clean. Has the same fragrance as the Sea Lipids Renewal Cream, which I also LOVE. Great product, great price, can't miss!

Moisturizers -Alba Botanica - Sea Plus Renewal Night Cream
rated 5 of 5
pretprof 11/3/2005 1:47:00 PM

This is a GREAT product. I've also been using The Body Shop's Soy and Calendula Night Cream, but the Alba cream is a denser, richer cream with more "slip" to the feel, and my dry dry skin has just sucked it in and loved it. $14.99 for 2 ounces - what a great price! I am also a fan of the Sea Cleansing Milk from this line. Both have an ocean-y fragrance which I happen to like, although I understand if others don't.

Cleansers -Sukí - Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser
rated 5 of 5
pretprof 10/13/2005 12:59:00 PM

This scrub is truly great. Smells divine and exfoliates without stripping (no joke - I have really dry skin). It's neither super expensive nor dirt cheap, but one jar lasts quite a while (I got this jar in mid-August and it's now mid-October and I'm not even half-way through it yet). My dry skin loves the sugar and the natural plant oils in this product.

Sunscreen -Vichy - Capital Soleil Creme Ecran IP60
rated 5 of 5
pretprof 9/4/2005 6:13:00 PM

I bought the 100ml size in Canada for $24 (Canadian, of course, and then you add on the 14% taxes!). Despite the price, I'm now a loyal fan of this product due to the quality and level of protection. I have dry skin so I don't normally have to worry about breakouts in any way, but I noticed that this sunscreen has a really nice finish, very little white cast, and also manages to moisturize my skin a bit. Knowing what I now know about the quality (or lack thereof) of different sunscreens, thanks to MUA boards and notepads, I will henceforth be a devoted user of this product. I live in VA, though, so I won't be visiting Canada again anytime soon, which is quite sad. If you can get your hands on this product, try it.

Moisturizers -The Body Shop - Soy & Calendula Night Cream
rated 5 of 5
pretprof 8/22/2005 5:58:00 PM

I just bought this during a layover in the Atlanta Harsfield airport and I must say, I'm glad I did. I was looking for a new moisturizer and this does the job for my very dry skin. The smell that other reviewers have referred to is probably the calendula and the lavender, which doesn't bother me at all. I think that for the price this is the best cream out there for really dry skin (and I've tried quite a few). $14 for 1.7 ounces, can't beat it!

Self Tanners -Jergens - Natural Glow
rated 1 of 5
pretprof 5/30/2005 1:16:00 PM

I had heard so much buzz about this that I wanted to try it, but after using it for almost a week, I have to say I'm disappointed. I have funny streaks around my ankles from this product (I thought at first they were dirty from gardening/yardwork but was sadly mistaken) and I was very careful to apply evenly (I usually cover myself with body lotion anyway after showering, because I have really dry skin). This was my first foray into any self-tanning product, and will be my last.

Cleansers -DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil
rated 4 of 5
pretprof 5/30/2005 1:11:00 PM

This is a great cleanser, but I agree with others that it can dry out the skin. After reading up on cleansing oils, I concluded that "cutting" the formula with an additional oil keeps this from happening. I use avocado oil in the winter and grapeseed in the summer, purchased from my local natural food store in their cosmetics section. Since these oils only cost about a dollar an ounce, combining the two makes the cleansing oil much more reasonable in cost - otherwise, it's a little pricey for my tastes. But I've found that doing this makes the formula work really well for me, so that I can get the benefits of the DHC (really obliterates that makeup and sunscreen!) without the drying effects. If you've found the DHC drying, try mixing with a fixed vegetable oil that works for your skin - it'll work much better.

Skincare - Face -Shi Kai - Facial Cleanser
rated 5 of 5
pretprof 5/19/2005 1:55:00 PM

I'm surprised at the preceding review - this product actually works really well for me, and I have very very dry skin. (By contrast, the shower gel dries out my body! I guess that makes me opposite from the last reviewer.) The facial cleanser is gentle and foams slightly without stripping, cleaning well but leaving the face soft. It's a staple in my bathroom.

Moisturizers -Origins - Never Say Dry [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
pretprof 5/5/2005 12:51:00 PM

I have, like many others rating this product, VERY dry skin. After reading the other reviews, I decided to give this a go. I bought it in a special holiday set - it came packaged with a .5 ounce Perfect World serum. "Never Say Dry" has worked really well for me. I took off a lippie because of the jar packaging (though with as thick as this cream is, it would be challenging to get it out of a pump) and because of the essential oils used to fragrance it. Like many other Origins products, this has a pretty obvious scent (citrusy, in this case). I personally like the scent and my skin has no problem with it, but it could be a problem for those who prefer less fragranced items or who could have sensitivity to the essential oils. Still, from the moisturization standpoint, it works very very well. I'll purchase again.

Skincare - Face -Jason Natural Cosmetics - Vitamin E Pure Beauty Oil
rated 5 of 5
pretprof 2/4/2005 1:54:00 PM

Jason makes several versions of this oil - I bought the 45,000 IU Vitamin E, which has a blend of several oils (see ingredients below). A great product for an outstanding price - quite viscous in consistency, so should last a long time. Really REALLY nourished and fixed my super dry skin. SO much better than other face oil I have tried (I just send back the DHC Olive Virgin Oil because of this!). If you have dry skin, try this - it is the BEST. INGREDIENTS: Tocopheryl Acetate (Vit. E), Helianthus Annus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, and/or Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oil, Camellia Sinensis (Camellia) Leaf Oil, Macadamia Ternifolia (Macadamia Nut Oil), Pistacia Vera (Pistaschio) Nut Oil, Borango Officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil, Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil
