Lipstick -MAC - Russian Red

me: nc 42 skin color such a bad-ass, in-your-face, and saturated bright bluish red, i LOVE it! with that said, it's NOT an everyday red for me. i guess this color fits in this modern trend of bright lips. but it also is such a classical and retro red. it lasts long too. even if you wipe it off, a good tint of color is still on your lips. this goes for most red lipsticks, but (especially with this lip color) DO NOT make out with this lipstick on. you and your partner will look like a clown. the texture is great. it felt pretty good on my lips. unlike many lipsticks, this was reasonably moisturizing. went clubbing with this lipstick on and it lasted throughout the night without touch ups. i would purchase again if i ever run out. i doubt that will happen, though, since i don't wear this every day.

Lip Gloss -Yves Saint Laurent - Golden Gloss #19 - Golden Petal
rated 4 of 5
polupuakenikeni 3/22/2012 11:58:00 PM

me: nc 42 skin. theeeee MOST expensive lip gloss i've purchased, but it's worth every penny. i probably can consider this my hg lip gloss. it's such a beautiful and subdued pink. you can still see the color, though. and the touch of gold from the gold flecks just makes the color better. it's kind of multi-dimensional looking, that it made my lips look plumper; i've had compliments on how my lips looked plumped. i've had several people ask me what i'm wearing. they were a bit turned off by the price, though. the texture is perfect. it feels so luxurious and silky on my lips. it's not sticky at all. even with the gold flecks, it doesn't feel glittery or gritty. i've even had a guy compliment on how my lips felt so great to kiss with this lip gloss on. the mango scent and the hint of mango taste is great. i LOVE mangoes! caveats? the price, the staying power, and the packaging. of course, it's ysl, so the price is gonna be high. but i guess it's worth it since i've never had a lip gloss like this ever. the staying power is to be expected with lip glosses: not very long lasting. but it's not like i have to reapply this throughout the day, though. i guess the staying power is somewhat reasonable. the packaging gets me, though. it's really cute with the gold cap and all, but product gets into the neck/twisty thing. i wonder how product gets there and sometimes i just get the product from there and apply it with my fingers, but product is not entirely secure. hope this helps!

Powder -Milani - Even-Tone Powder Foundation
rated 4 of 5
polupuakenikeni 3/22/2012 11:41:00 PM

my skin: mac's mc42/milani even-tone powder foundation in natural tan. if you're looking for light-to-medium coverage powder foundation, then this product is pretty awesome. i use this either to set my foundation or for touch-ups on my t-zone. i use a kabuki brush to apply; never the sponge it comes with. it holds pretty well. even through the wee hours of the night clubbing. the caveat? it's not mattifying. it think it says something on the packaging that it's HD makeup. i guess HD face products are not meant to be mattifying anyway. it was a bit of a downer, but after a round of pictures, it didn't look as bad. i had a bit of a glow, but not sparkling glow. it looked pretty great, actually.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Waterproof Voluminous Carbon Black
rated 3 of 5
polupuakenikeni 3/22/2012 11:23:00 PM

my lashes: pin-straight and hardly holds a curl with regular mascara. i would give this five full stars, but it's NOT waterproof. after a few hours, there is some smudges under my eyes. and i don't even touch my eyes or do anything to have smudges under my eyes. such a HUGE downer! but it does hold a curl, lengthening, thickening, and it's really pigmented. it kind of gives me a fake lash effect, too. i've gotten plenty of compliments on my eyelashes while wearing this mascara. but i have to check every now and then if it smudges. since there are more pros than cons, i'd repurchase. but the fact that it's not a true waterproof mascara and smudges, i'd only wear this sparingly. otherwise, this would be the perfect mascara. but, alas, there is no such thing as perfect. the closest to it would be lashblast waterproof, but it's not thickening.

Lipstick -Wet 'n' Wild - Bare it All 902C
rated 4 of 5
polupuakenikeni 1/6/2011 5:55:00 PM

Excellent lipstick, HORRIBLE packaging. First off, the lipstick is wonderful! It's probably the perfect pinky-nude shade with a hint of spiciness. It's probably one of the best lip color to wear every day. It has a light touch of moisture (but it's a lot of moisture for a drugstore long-lasting lipstick). It does last long, but don't expect it to last through your meal. No funny smell or taste, either. It's a no-nonsense lipstick. The packaging SUCKS soooooooooo much! A few days after purchasing, the lipstick broke off from the tube. I managed to put the lipstick back, but it keeps on breaking. I still use it from the tube, but then, the tube breaks apart! The base and the tube that holds the lipstick broke off! It holds together when the lid snaps on the base of the tube, but when I apply the lipstick, I have to be careful to keep the whole packaging intact. Once again: great lipstick, HORRIBLE packaging.

Concealers -Maybelline - Super Stay 24 Hour Concealer
rated 4 of 5
polupuakenikeni 1/6/2011 5:45:00 PM

Reference: I used Medium Beige shade. Great concealer. Really stays put. I'm the type that puts a bit of concealer on the top of my clean palm and dot the product with the fingers of my other hand. It REALLY stays put that my hand that had the concealer still had some of the product left over even after rigorous hand-washing. It can be a bit drying, though. Applying can be a bit tricky if you don't act quick. When it's still good to blend, it blends well. It covers both my dark under-eye circles, acne scars, and blemishes. It's foundation counterpart (the Super Stay foundation. I use Honey Beige), blends well over this concealer. Other than the limited time of application, I have no complaints about this product.

Liquid -Maybelline - Super Stay Makeup
rated 4 of 5
polupuakenikeni 1/6/2011 5:38:00 PM

Reference: I am an NC42. I used Honey Beige for this brand. I also have combo skin. This is a great foundation, but almost all the claims indicated on the bottle are over exaggerated. Pros: This is probably one of the best performing foundations out there in the market. Paired up with it's concealer counterpart (Superstay Concealer. I use Medium Beige), it covers my face up very well. I'd say the coverage is medium with a touch of heavy. As my skin having a yellow undertone, Honey Beige was a good match for my skin. It doesn't oxidize on me. It's really long-lasting, too. I'm not too sure if it will survive 24 hours since I can't last that long, but it stays on very well from sunup to sundown. It doesn't break me out, either! It's pretty comfortable to wear; it doesn't dry out my skin or feel too heavy. Blends easily on my skin. No funny smell, either. Cons: Not transfer-proof. Not that the product will rub-off completely -- it stays on for the most part -- but don't expect the look that you started out with after completing your morning makeup routine to stay on completely. If you don't touch your face, you may periodically need to swipe your t-zone with a blotting tissue. If you touched your face, I just needed a touch-up with a bit of powder (I like their shine-free oil control powder). I'm not too sure if it'll "withstand heat, sweat, and humidity," but I have worn this while working out and my face still looked great with an understandable amount of transfer on my towel. Oh, and it needs a pump badly. Overall, I like it. With any makeup brand, it has really exaggerated claims. This is not the perfect foundation. Well, there is no such thing. But this can come close to being the most wearable foundation out there.

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous - Pink Whisper 130 (LE)
rated 4 of 5
polupuakenikeni 4/30/2010 5:50:00 PM

I'm a NC42. This gloss is great, but I don't think it's what I hoped for. I am currently on a "baby pink lip with smokey eye" phase at the moment, and I was hoping I can pull this gloss off with my olive skin. In initial application, the color was a bit odd; a more of a white-like appearance with a hint of pink. It takes a while for the color to kind of "warm up" to my lips. When it does "warm up" (or probably blend with my natural lip color), it kind of gives a NARS Turkish Delight color with a nice shine and a bit of frost. I really like the feel of this lip gloss; it's not sticky at all, it stays on pretty well for a lip gloss, and it really does a great job moisturizing my lips. I will not repurchase this particular lipgloss, but I'll definitely purchase another color. I'll still use this until I'm done (since I really like the feel of this gloss), but I have to supplement it with another product to produce that baby pink that I am going for.

Eyeliner -NYX - Felt Tip Eyeliner Pencil
rated 3 of 5
polupuakenikeni 1/6/2010 5:36:00 AM

this product took a while to like... then dislike again. first off, when i first used this formula, the ink of this liner is runny and gave an inconsistent line; it was so hard to control the application. then, after a week, the formula started to get a bit of consistency. it was like a 180 and i started to like this product. it was very easy for me to apply and control. i thought, "oh, well, just give it a while and it'll work fine." but, after using this for about a couple of months, the formula got a little too dry. i still use it, but i have to run over a few spots that i've lined that wasn't really pigmented. also, it's a little harder for me to draw a cat-eye on this. overall, this works like a marker; a marker loses it's ink after a while and then you move on to a new one. it was good while it lasted. i rated this as a product i wouldn't buy again, but really, i'm not too sure. this liner is different from other ones. when it's behaved well, i really love it and it's really easy to wash off with soap and water.

Cleansers -Desert Essence - Thoroughly Clean Face Wash with Organic Tea Tree Oil and Awapuhi
rated 3 of 5
polupuakenikeni 1/3/2010 9:36:00 PM

while i was looking for a cheaper alternative to my dermalogica's special cleansing gel, this one caught my eye every time i shopped at trader joes. i have used this product for almost two weeks, and so far it's pretty good. out of all facial cleansers i've used, this one seems to really dissolve makeup and leaves the face "squeaky clean." it's rather drying though, so i use a moisturizer right after washing my face. the ingredients are seemingly simple: castile soap along with essential oils and plant extracts. i really like this product for the price and it's performance and it does almost the same job as dermalogica's special cleansing gel (or probably even better when it comes to makeup removal and the price), but it's so drying! a few notes: 1. be very careful when using this around the eye area -- this stuff stings like crazy! 2. the pump is great, but it leaks a bit (castile soap is thin). or maybe it's just the packaging i got.

Lip Gloss -E.L.F. - Super Glossy Lip Shine SPF 15 - Pink Kiss
rated 3 of 5
polupuakenikeni 12/18/2009 12:33:00 AM

eh, it's alright. it's a nice and subtle pink frost that does a great job hydrating lips. plus, it smells great (like an orangesicle). i wouldn't really buy again because of the frost; i am looking for more of a shine (you'd think you'd get that with this product since it is called "lip shine," but nope!).

Eye Shadow -E.L.F. - Non-Stop Eye Color -- Butternut
rated 5 of 5
polupuakenikeni 12/18/2009 12:26:00 AM

i am totally surprised by this! unlike the lower-priced drugstore brand palettes and eyeshadows like rimmel, wet 'n wild, and n.y.c., this one has great consistency and higher pigments. plus, it costs less than those brands anyway. pair with their bright eyeliner in coffee, this palette is great for creating brown smokey eyes. plus, it's so easy to do it (granted that you also have a blending brush).

Blush -E.L.F. - All Over Color Stick in Pink Lemonade
rated 4 of 5
polupuakenikeni 11/17/2009 4:59:00 PM

i love this product! i use this primarily on my cheeks. it gives off such a nice flushed color on my olive/tan skin. i sometimes use it on my lips. it shows up as a wearable frosted pink (not 80's style). i don't think i have any use for this on my eyes; even though it is frosted, this is not really a eye highlighter. this is great for touch-ups; i just lightly pat the product on my cheeks really quick and it looks perfect. the only thing i don't like about this product is it's lemonade smell. overall, this is a great cream blush and the price is great! also, with the amount of product it comes with, this will last me a long time.

Skincare - Face -Pro Activ - 3-Step System
rated 2 of 5
polupuakenikeni 10/25/2009 6:03:00 AM

proactiv is nothing special. the cleanser is not deep-cleaning enough. the toner is okay; this is probably comparable to neutrogena's alcohol-free toner. the repairing treatment can probably be duplicated by mixing 2.5% benzoyl peroxide with an oil-free moisturizer. i think the concept of having a complete system is great, but all of these products that they have can probably be bought at your nearest drugstore. as for treating my acne, it didn't really do anything. if you really have acne problems, don't turn to an infomercial to help you out, go to a dermatologist or an esthetician
