Polishes -OPI - Merry Midnight
poetrygroupie 12/28/2009 3:52:00 PM
It took four coats for me to fall in love, but I'm there. Even after coat three, it was a little streaky, so I took off one lippie. But four coats, it's opaque, it's got great depth and interest with layer after layer of shimmery flakies. The grape jelly is the perfect color of purple--dark enough to be vampy but warm enough that it doesn't make my pale skin look cadaverous. It dries fairly quickly, so the four coats are a small price to pay for this beauty!

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - Last Call eyeshadow
poetrygroupie 8/22/2009 9:14:00 AM
When I bought UD's Ammo Palette, I never dreamed that the color I would use most would be the shimmery plum wine. It packs a punch with my green eyes. Most of the time, I blend it with Grifter, with which it's paired in the palette, but I also love spicing up my neutral YDK eye with Last Call in the crease. It looks phenomenal with X. In fact, just yesterday, I used YDK on the lid, Last Call in the crease, and X as a highlight and found my new fave eyeshadow look.

Eye Shadow -Avon - Beyond Color Radiant Lifting Eyeshadow
poetrygroupie 7/15/2009 12:02:00 PM
I use this in Platinum as an inexpensive alternative to high-end eyeshadow primers and bases that I don't like as well. The doe-foot applicator is not great and tends to apply too much, but if you don't mind dabbing a bit in the center of your eyelid and blending with your fingers, it's not insurmountable. It doesn't crease (unless you apply too much) and holds powder eyeshadow in place all day. The color is a very light taupe that blends well with my eyelid and with my shadows. And if you get it on sale at Avon, it's a real steal ($3 for 7 g).

Lip Gloss -Avon - Glazewear Shine in Darling Pink
poetrygroupie 7/15/2009 10:57:00 AM
My go-to gloss when I just want to enhance my natural lip color! A pretty pink that's not too light-colored. Lightweight, non-sticky coverage that lasts a surprisingly long time considering that it is indeed lightweight and non-sticky. Not overly shiny, either; more like a modified lipstick than a gloss. Again, a nice neutral enhancer. And if you wait for Avon's sales, they're only $2-$3.

Palettes -NARS - Multiple Duo - Orgasm / South Beach
poetrygroupie 3/25/2009 12:42:00 PM
It burned my face! I might be allergic to this, and I've NEVER been allergic to ANYTHING before! I tried this product for the first time last night, sweeping it across my cheekbones and eyelids, and left in on for a half-hour or less before washing it off and going to bed. When I woke up this morning, my cheeks were flaming red and burn-sore, and my eyelids were puffy, pink, and sore. I'll give it one lippy for longevity--it looks like I'm going to have flushed cheeks for a while!

Blush -Tarte - A Perfect Whirled
poetrygroupie 2/23/2009 6:12:00 PM
I LOVE the texture of this product! It's not as sticky as most of tarte's cheek stains, more like a cream formula that glides right on and blends beautifully! Really, I've never used a better-textured blush. HOWEVER, the color is very light, a shimmery pink with a touch of brighter pink that happens to turn into my exact natural cheek color with shimmer. (I have a fair, neutral skin tone with fairly rosy cheeks.) If you are very pale (level 1 or 2--porcelain) and enjoy tarte's stain in Dollface, I'd highly recommend this color for you.

Blush -Tarte - Cheek Stain in Tipsy
poetrygroupie 2/23/2009 6:04:00 PM
Before I bought this product, I was concerned that it would be too orangey or warm for my skin tone. BUT I checked the reviews and those with my coloring seemed to love it, so I splurged. When I first tried this product, I was concerned that it was too sheerly pigmented to show up on my fair, naturally neutral (but rosy) cheeks. I had tried the tarte stain in the new "Perfect Whirled" color, and it was almost exactly the natural color of my cheeks with shimmer. Totally not worth the price. It took a few swipes of Tipsy to get the color to show up... BUT after a few wearings, I have decided that the color looks PERFECTLY NATURAL on my skin, just enough to show up and look like it belongs there. If I want a natural daytime look, I go with Tipsy. If I'm looking for a little more pigment, rosiness, or sass, I go with tarte's stain in Blissful. Honestly, I can't lose!

Moisturizers -Neutrogena - Healthy Skin SPF 15
poetrygroupie 2/22/2009 9:56:00 PM
This is currently my daytime moisturizer, and it works ok. Not great, but ok. It does sting a bit when I put it on, but just a small amount keeps my face moisturized and protected from the sun.

Toners -Neutrogena - Alcohol-Free Toner
poetrygroupie 2/22/2009 9:13:00 PM
What it does, it does well. A truly non-drying (maybe even moisturizing) toner, it lifts excess makeup and feels refreshing. It doesn't close pores or really help with acne, however.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Fresh Foaming Cleanser
poetrygroupie 2/22/2009 9:10:00 PM
I first discovered this product when I received it as part of my complimentary in-suite package at an upscale hotel. I kept going back for more! A very mild, gentle cleanser that gets rid of makeup without overdrying. It doesn't do much beyond that as far as acne-control or moisturizing, but it doesn't purport to. What it does, it does well. Excellent for the price.

Lip Gloss -C.O. Bigelow - Mentha Lip Tint in Pink Mint
poetrygroupie 2/22/2009 8:45:00 PM
This is a great inexpensive lip sheer! Perfect for the purse or daybag! It is everything that I expected Tarte's (3x more expensive) 24/7 lip sheer to be. It is richly pigmented, (lightly) moisturizing, with a refreshing touch of mentha. The shade is a nice slightly warm/neutral pink that goes with just about anything.

Fragrances -Bath and Body Works - Body Splash in Plumeria
poetrygroupie 2/22/2009 8:39:00 PM
Since I wear unscented clinical-type lotions due to my skin problems, I layer this on to give my skin a beautiful, sexy scent that lasts all day. Plumeria has remained my favorite, signature Bath and Body Works scent over the years--nothing can beat its light, fresh, young floral scent. I can't bear most floral scents, but this one is irresistable.

Gels/Soaps -Bath and Body Works - Pecan Passion Temptations 3 in 1
poetrygroupie 2/22/2009 8:30:00 PM
I am SO DISAPPOINTED that Bath and Body Works discontinued this line!!! This scent (along with the frosting one) was to DIE FOR, a strong bourbony sweetness that lingered on and on all day! It works ok as a shampoo or bubble bath (nothing spectacular), but makes a very creamy body wash.

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - True Blue Spa Look Ma, New Hands Renewing Hand Lotion
poetrygroupie 2/22/2009 8:27:00 PM
I live in the cold Midwest, and this product is an absolute necessity in the winter! I keep tubes of it stashed in various places throughout the house and in my purse. It moisturizes well, but most importantly, IT STAYS ON, even through a hand-washing or two. It has a pleasant citrusy scent and keeps my hands from cracking! Even my boyfriend has become attached to it!

Treatments (Eye) -Philosophy - Hope in a Tube - High Density Eye and Lip Firming Cream
poetrygroupie 2/22/2009 8:22:00 PM
Ugh. This product was sticky and ineffective. I used it for six weeks, and did not notice a change in the fine lines around my eyes or in the texture of the skin there. Except for a pronounced stickiness that interfered with my makeup application. I recommend Dr. Wexler's 3-in-1 eye cream instead.
