Oh I had such high hope for this one and it turned out to be total scrubber for me! Before testing, I had it in my head that it would be in the same family as SM Garnet. Not! Oh no no no. This smelled like headshop incense mixed with pop rocks candy, with a sharp topnote. Also cloying. Eek.

I agree with Dinahad, this is a dead-ringer for Loree Rodkin Gothic. Except not as good. Pass.

This is just okay. It reminds me quite a bit of CW Pearl, but with less musk and more spice. And by spice I mean cinnamon. Starts with a blast of cinnamon and dries down to a sort of non-descript vanilla/white musk. Nice but not earth-shattering.

This is a nice white musk. I don't get any coconut at all. Reminds me of TBS White Musk but with something extra that makes it more interesting and creamy. Probably not interesting or unique enough to justify that pricetag, though.

I really, really like this. It IS very very sweet so definitely you must like sweet fragrances if you are going to enjoy this one. This is a very simple fragrance. It starts with a hint of (subtle) citrus over a sugary sweet base, like white sugar with a hint of musk. Somehow this reminds me of froot loops but without the fruit. If that makes any sense.

Leather + metal. Nice if that's your bag but I think it's been done better by others (i.e. Andy Tauer).

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Carnival Wax Blue Violet

Very interesting scent. I definitely get more raspberry than violet here. Smells like a blue raspberry slurpee (minus sugar and made with real fruit). This scent is hard to pin down--I've never really smelled anything like it. It's nice but I don't need a bottle.

I really love this one! I get a very creamy vanilla with a subtle hint of eagleswood/oud. It's very well-blended and warm on my skin. This is definitely a wearable oud for those of us who only want a pinch and/or are overwhelmed by many oud scents. In the end, it's mostly smoky vanilla. Comforting scent with a twist. Love!

Pink Sugar for grown-ups. ...(and it's actually much better than that sounds).

Oh I love this! Sexy dried fruit without being too sweet. A perfectly composed, well-rounded scent.

Wow, and Aftelier that I actually love...I never thought I'd see the day. I've tried a lot of Mandy Aftel's fragrances, and never been moved to re-sample, much less purchase. But this stuff is glorious and sexy as all get out. I don't have much to add the the below reviews except that it reminds me vaguely of Neil Morris Midnight Tryst, but better. And that's saying a lot. I love this stuff.

Oh I quite like this. A very nice black coconut scent, reminiscent of Sage Onyx, but a lil more of an everyday scent. This is warm and fresh and coconutty, not at all cloying, and just a tad fresh and soapy. Very nice!

Fragrances -Le Labo - Rose 31

I've been searching long and hard for a dark, dirty rose scent and my search is over. This is a rose for rose haters (nothing sharp or acrid about this) and it's unisex and very wearable for a man or woman. My boyfriend, who is a self-professed perfume hater, and generally avoids me like the plague when I'm sampling, took one sniff and and said "What is THAT? I like that!!" It's fab on both of us. And sexy too. This is what I was hoping Lady Vengeance would smell like. LOVE this.

Fragrances -Le Labo - Neroli 36
rated 1 of 5
persephone76 11/2/2008 2:52:00 AM

Neroli is a note that is very hit or miss for me. Sadly, this was a miss. Instead of being light, fresh, summery and slightly green (like say, Jo Malone's Orange Blossom), this was sharp, bitter and somewhat cloying and nausea inducing. I'm quite a fan of Le Labo but sadly, this one was a total scrubber for me.

It took me a long time to be won over by BPAL. I loved the website but was let down by too many samples I tried. While it is still true that I have more misses than hits, this is true of every perfume house I can think of. I've also got to say that I find most of my favorites are limited edition blends, by a mile. Some of BPAL's creations are truly astounding works of art and defy categorization. Case in point: the limited edition Skadi (which is sadly near impossible to find these days--you may be able to pick up a bottle on *bay for $100+)--it morphs from snow to pine to red berry over the course of several hours. Each phase is distinct, true, and in no way headshoppy or cheap smelling. Yes, some of them are let downs, but hold out, because one of these days you'll stumble across love in a bottle.
