Lipstick -Clinique - Almost Lipstick - Black Honey

If that #%&$ cap comes off this almost @!&$ lipstick in my purse one more time...who designed this $&%@, anyway? Does any one of them carry a purse? Wth - this is unworkable. Must try some other manifestation of Black Honey because I don't need these purse disasters.

Lipstick -Make Up For Ever - Rouge Artist Natural #N1
peoplerpeople 1/18/2013 4:01:00 PM
I have worn several of the Rouge Artist Intense shades, loving the depth of color but not the drying effect. The good news is that this lipstick feels much smoother and soft on the lips. The color is a soft, satiny, pale pink with very slightly yellow undertones. Compared to my nc42 complexion, my lips are at once very pale and pigmented (freckled). This is one of very few lipsticks that work as a nude for me; the color is pinker and more interesting on me than MAC Shag but "quieter" than Naked Paris or Fresh Salmon (both MAC also). Not super sure about this, but I think this N1 is sheerer than any of those other three. I can't get used to wearing nude shades alone, so I wear this to soften a particularly bright or deep color. The bad news is the lack of staying power. Some might be glad to see the sheen fade quickly; the color lasts a bit longer than the sheen but nothing like a more intense or matte shade. Of course, this formula feels very moist on the lips, a point important to me. I'll keep working with this and can see myself buying it again.

Accessories -Unlisted Brand - Eylure- Naturalites Volume Lashes 020
peoplerpeople 1/13/2013 11:16:00 AM
I am new to false eyelashes. I bought any number of pairs, brands and styles all at once, determined to find my way. I ditto *completely* the other reviewer's concern about llamas and drag queens - this style definitely works on that score because they are not too long and RELATIVELY sparse. But I will buy these again for another important reason: these are the only, the *only* ones, I have applied successfully without trouble and excessive cursing. The length is even all the way across. As a result, it doesn't matter if the lashes are not placed in the exact same orientation on each eye (close to outer corner on this eye, but closer to inner corner on that eye - did I mention that I'm new at this?). I also like that the strip part is not solidly black all the way across because solid black strips are always very obvious on me, even when applied as close to my lash line as I can manage. Finally, I'll note that this pair I've managed to reuse twice with good results. I'm buying more of these.

Styling Products -Living Proof - No Frizz Wave Shaping Curl Defining No Frizz Styling Cream for Medium to Thick Hair

So glad to know this worked for so many, but it didn't suit me at all. Every time I open the bottle, the smell 'bout knocks me over in the worst possible way. The smell aside - because I'll survive a stink if everything else works - the product left my hair gummy and without shine or much hold. Right now, I'm doing way better with Lottabody (Lotta Body?) for an absolute fraction of the price.

Styling Products -Revlon - Lottabody Setting Lotion

How do I know I am a product junkie? Every few months, I dig through all the "trying-this" products in my hair stuff drawer, come up with this, can't remember why it fell from favor, and use it diluted 50/50 in a wet set. To get right to the point, I love the shiny curls (big rollers yield about 1-inch ringlets) that hold perfectly against frizziness so long as I Do Not Touch them beyond finger-raking. I don't love the texture or look once I brush it out and can't be sure that I can fix this by increasing dilution, but I haven't really tried. So why do I keep buying & trying (this would be a rhetorical question but for MUA :D)? I need to get past the extremely plain bottle and irrational association with other stuff my mom used back in the day like Dippity Do and Nestle's Superset (can I get a witness?). Gotta keep working with Lottabody, at least until I fall for the next brightly colored can/jar/bottle of snake oil...from Armenian baby snakes, maybe, raised only on macadamia nuts (joking reference to eternal search for HG - do not look for this product). P.S. If it matters, I have fine Af/Am hair (3a-3b curl pattern), which I prefer to wear in loose waves after brushing out a wet set. In the semi-tropical climate where I live, we are rarely without at least 50% humidity. Frizziness is a constant state of being.

Masks -Makeup Artist's Choice (MUAC) - 25% Mandelic Acid Peel
peoplerpeople 12/9/2012 10:56:00 AM
YES. This is the first "peel" I have tried, mainly because my combo/dry skin overreacts to *everything.* The first time, I applied with gauze, watched the timer closely, and felt absolutely nothing before splashing and washing thoroughly. Saw absolutely no difference but was glad to see no negative reactions. One week later (I deliberately waited several days just in case), I tried it again using a Q-tip and leaving on for 5 minutes instead of 3. This time I felt a slight warmth around minute 4. Still didn't notice much difference, except for some peeling around my nostrils. After four days, I tried it again. Used a q-tip and left on about 5 minutes. The next morning, which happened to be a light makeup day, I used an extra gentle buf-puf and my very mildest cleanser (Cerave Hydrating=only good for am bc it doesn't remove makeup well at all), then moisturized. JACKPOT. Compared to my skin before 1st use, my complexion is brighter with dark spots much improved. I now use the toner (smart move throwing in all those free samples, MUAC) every 2d evening or so, and the peel once a week. I am very, very happy with this product right now. When I do finally run out of this, I will repurchase.

Cleansers -Ponds - Clean Sweep Cleansing and Makeup Remover Towelettes
peoplerpeople 12/9/2012 10:34:00 AM
I have tried only these and a comparable Neutrogena cloth. I can't tell much difference, which is to say that each effectively removed long-wear foundation and moderate eye makeup without stinging or burning my sensitive skin. The rough side of the cloth is too abrasive for my taste, but one entire cloth takes care of my entire face. I wish the product packaging seal was more reliable; I keep the entire package sealed in a ziploc bag. Last but not least, these wipes do not irritate my skin or cause breakouts. Based on availability, gentle effectiveness (including eye area) and price, I will repurchase.

Boo. Am very comfortable with Caramel (CS combo/oily) and/or Rich Ginger (PhotoReady "regular"), depending on the time of year (NC 42). It so happens that *neither* shade works for me in this formula. I don't know why not and don't have the patience necessary to keep looking. Btw, I can't wear the Rich Ginger in the CS (too light and too opaque) or the Caramel in the PR (looked a very, very muddy gray).

Eye Shadow -MAC - Brule
peoplerpeople 12/5/2012
I don't wear MAC foundation, but NC42 is my shade. For years I used Naked Lunch as the lighter shade under the brow. Then the other day I fooled around with some app that reproduces what looks to be the blank MAC...face map? Face outline? Anyway, I fooled around with a lot of the MAC shadows on it and Brule looked promising. Now that I have the shadow on my eyelid, I cannot believe how perfect this shade is for my coloring. Will make an excellent neutral (Naked Lunch is definitely rosier shade) and key component to "nude eye."

Powder -Sephora - Microsmooth Foundation Powder
peoplerpeople 11/13/2012 1:04:00 AM
I am a nearly perfect match for D33 in the mattifying compact foundation. Picked this up in the 35 shade for days when I wear liquid foundation and I am mildly impressed. The finish is light and smooth. The area around my nose flaked a bit but the powder otherwise did well on my dry skin. This powder did not approach my idea of a foundation - coverage is modest as was staying power. The packaging annoys me because there's no applicator or mirror of any kind. This design flaw makes it less portable than I would like. I've used a sponge.and a brush; the sponge worked much better for coverage. I'll repurchase because it's a good product, a good shade match at a decent price that doesn't cause me to breakout in little itchy bumps. The decidedly yellow undertones to this powder shade suit my coloring and did I mention that it doesn't make me itch or cause to watch with mildly itchy red bumps. Sephora powder foundations are better than I expected. Did I mention that this powder did not inflame my face. : D It didn't stay long either, but that's a tradeoff I can happily accept. UPDATE: I'm subtracting one lippie. I still like the initial result and the color, but wish for better staying power.

Primer/ Corrector -Tarte - Recreate Primer
peoplerpeople 11/8/2012 7:08:00 PM
Got this in the sample-sized trio from Sephora. Was happy because silicone-based primers give me painful acne and this one is labeled silicone-free. Tried it two non-consecutive days and, each time, all hell broke loose all over my face in form of small, itchy, red bumps that took real time to heal. And I'm talking about a quick reaction - I could feel the irritated areas by afternoon and the bumps were completely visible by morning. I can't say why this primer and I don't get along but we don't. I wear Tarte mascaras exclusively because the formula doesn't make my eyes burn and water like most other brands, but this primer is a horse of a different color. I threw it away. P.S. The other, brightening Tarte primer did not break me out. It doesn't touch my Urban Decay brightening primer but can do well enough in an emergency.

Hair Styling Tools -Solano - Supersolano

This dryer is just okay. I appreciate that it's lightweight and I *like* the super long cord. The truth is that my (heavier) Conair ionic blow dryer left my hair smoother. Don't know that weight has much to do with anything - I guess I'm just a little disappointed.

Cleansers -Cerave - Hydrating Cleanser
peoplerpeople 11/8/2012 6:29:00 PM
I only use this after a peel, wax or when I don't need to wash away makeup. The cleanser is very, very gentle, but doesn't take off makeup well at all. I'm not mad I bought it but would hesitate before buying another full-size bottle. Truly love the AM PM moisturizers but those reviews are elsewhere.

Moisturizers -Cerave - Facial Moisturizing Lotion - PM
peoplerpeople 11/8/2012 6:23:00 PM
Love this moisturizer. It's not heavy but a little goes a long way...and I have dry, sensitive skin. I also like the list of ingredients. Wish the bottle traveled better. Don't use this under makeup because the PM formula can make foundation ball or pill on the face.
