Foundations -Sleek - Creme to Powder Foundation Oil-Free

In the past, I used to turn my nose up at sleek products because I associated it with the black hair and beauty shops with the shabby looking stall. However, since they launched it in superdrug's, the packaging and overall image has greatly improved. What I like most about sleek is that they offer affordable makeup for women of color, which can be difficult to find. I was currently using maybelline 24hr superstay foundation in the cocoa shade. After reading the positive reviews, I decided to try this creme to powder foundation. For my combination skin, I always want a foundation that is oil-free. I bought this in the hot chocolate shade and it cost me £7. I have to say, when I tried it on, I was very impressed with the result. It's medium to full coverage but it looked natural and airbrushed, it didn't have a cakey or mask like result. Also, it was very quick and easy to apply and even though the foundation supplied is quite small, you honestly just need a tiny bit because it blends so smoothly into the skin. The staying power is excellent aswell. I put this on at 7am in the morning, I came home at 5pm and then I excercised and it looked completly flawless and fresh; I didn't even have to set it with powder!! In terms of transfer, it does transfer abit, but only if you rubbed your face hard. It also comes with a sponge and a mirror so it is very portable. However, I think it's good to change the sponge regularly because bacteria can harbour on them. An excellent foundation, which I can't fault at all!!!

Mascara -Bourjois - Volume Clubbing Ultra Black

I really like this mascara. It volumises and makes my lashes very dramatic, which is something I always look for. However, this mascara takes me 10 minutes to apply on each eye if I want to achieve a perfect no-clump result. It makes my lashes stand out from far away and it is certainly a brilliant mascara for all you clubbers out there!!!!!

Liquid -Maybelline - SuperStay Makeup - New Version

I live in the UK and this foundation DOES have a pump and SPF 19. I have to say this is one of the best liquid foundations I have tried. It's lightweight, stays fresh and flawless for the whole day. My shade is cocoa. However, it does transfer abit, for example when I blow my nose. When I used this foundation with the l'oreal studio secrets resurfacing primer, it lasted for 10 hours without any blotting. However, I haven't tried this foundations sans the primer so I'm not sure if it will last as long. A very good foundation and I also like the semi-matte finish.

Primer/ Corrector -L'Oreal - Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base

This primer is excellent. Usually, I don't like wearing liquid foundation because my combination skin eats up all the foundation. However, with this primer, the foundation stays on for 10 hours. I use the maybelline 24hr superstay foundation(cocoa) and it stays fresh and flawless for the whole day. It's quite small for the price (£13) but you only need a tiny bit because it's so potent. Bye bye to grease face!

Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup

After all the raved reviews on this foundation, I decided to try this product. I have used liquid foundations in the past but my face always ended up greasy after 2 hours. I bought this in the oily/combination formula as my t-zone area can become slightly oily. I bought it from superdrug's for £12 in the mahoghany shade. Unfortunately, when I got home and tried it on, it was too dark for my skin and the undertones were too grey. However, the day I tried it on, even though it was a very hot day, the foundation stayed flawless and I was outside for 10 hours. Even after I excercised, the foundation looked fresh, flawless and natural. It also has a nice perfume scent. The consistency is quite thin and runny; similar to mac studio fix. You have to blend in quickly becuase it dries fast and you will be left with streaks. I used my fingertips to apply it. There is no pump so you have to be careful that you don't pour too much to avoid wastage. Even though the shade I bought was too dark, it is the best liquid foundation I have ever tried. In the UK, the only shade they sell for black women is in the mahoghany shade but I'm sure the caramel or cappacino shade would've suited my skin. I advise you to buy mini testers from eBay for around £1.50 so you don't end up wasting £12! Also, the foundation is transfer resistant and it doesn't go onto my tissue when I blow my nose!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Telescopic Explosion
rated 4 of 5
people52005 8/1/2010 10:39:00 AM

I'm surprised this mascara received such bad reviews! In order for the mascara to be effective, it's all in the technique. You don't use it like a conventional mascara-hold the wand horizontally and sweep across your lashes from root to tip; you have to use this mascara vertically and go UP your lashes,if you do it this way your lashes will really stretch! I was very impressed with this result. However, this mascara doesn't give much volume so I go over my lashes with my max factor lash extension effect brush to give added volume. A very good mascara at a good price-it only cost £10 from superdrug's and it's a good bargain if you don't want to buy the lancome equivalent which is more pricey. To get maximum results use VERTICALLY!!!!

Skincare - Body -Bio Oil - All Products

After using some dodgy face wipes that wrecked my skin ( cough cough simple face wipes!!) I ran to superdrug's and bought the £10 bottle and it was wonderful. I mixed it with palmer's cocoa butter and after a month, all the dark patches were COMPLETELY erased. Quite pricey for a small bottle but it's very potent so you don't have to use a lot. Worth giving a go!!

Cleansers -Simple - Cleansing Facial Wipes

These face wipes were terrible!!! I don't know if I had an allergic reaction but it completely wrecked my smooth skin. After a week of using it, I noticed it gave me dark patches all over my face which looked like I was suffering from hyperpigmentation!!!! I was shocked because it claimed it was alcohol and oil free. Other reviews were good so I'm sure my skin just reacted badly to one of the ingredients. I used bio-oil and palmer's cocoa butter which worked a treat and luckily, my face has gone back to it's smooth even state.

Also it was only £1 which is a great bargain and it lasted me up to 3-4 weeks. Buy buy buy!!!!!

Primer/ Corrector -L'Oreal - studio secrets - anti shine mattifying
rated 4 of 5
people52005 5/9/2010 6:14:00 AM

I really like this primer!!! I wear it by itself and it gives my face a matte finish with a nice dewy glow to it. If you have oily/combo skin, this is good for wearing it before applying foundation so your face won't end up a greasy wreck!!!! would recommend and it's inexpensive, cost me £8 from boots.

Very good!!! Bought it in purple, black, gold and silver and they are excellent!!!! The colours are highly pigmented and they show up on my dark skin perfectly and it has a very good staying power. Also it is creamy and it glides on my eye easily without any smudging. Very cheap, only £2.89 from superdrug's. I will definetly buy again

Lipstick -Avon - Glazewear Lipstick

Wonderful!!! I have been an avid fan of Avon lipglosses, lipsticks, eyeliner and eyeshadows for more than a year and this product has ticked all the boxes. I bought it in nude gold and spotlight coral which complemented my skin tone perfectly. It was highly pigmented and had a nice sparkly finish to it. However, it is quite small and after using it everyday for 2 weeks it finished. However, it is worth the £8 and I will be buying more in that shade again!!!

Lip Gloss -Rimmel - Vinyl Bronze
rated 4 of 5
people52005 5/9/2010 5:03:00 AM

I bought this lipgloss in the coral shade ( I forgot the actual name). It was very sparkly, especially in the sun which I thought was nice. It lasted for more than 6 hours without having to re-apply at all. However I had to use quite a lot on my lips in order for the colour to show. However it was only £2.50 so I will buy it again.

Mascara -Maybelline - Pulse Perfection™ by Define-A-Lash® Vibrating Mascara ] ] [DISCONTINUED]

I am surprised with the negative reviews with this maybelline mascara. After trying five of their other mascaras and being severly disappointed, I was loosing sll hope in their mascaras until this one came along!! I had seen estee Lauder and lancome sell similar vibrating mascaras but I was contemplating whether to buy a mascara for 30 quid and I'm happy I decided not to. This mascara cost me £15 from superdrug's and it was worth the money. It really lengthened my lashes. To get maximum length, it is better to apply it slowly and in a diagonal direction. This is by far the best maybelline mascara I've ever used. However, it is the most expensive mascara that they have. It's worth the money though!!!!
