Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Finacea Gel

I'm 36, with mild rosacea and sebaceous hyperplasia. My derm prescribed this for both issues. After using it for 6 months I've seen no change in my skin. Derm is now claiming it does not fix rosacea but will stop it from getting worse.

Hair Styling Tools -Unlisted Brand - Coolway Flat Iron

I've used it just one time so take this FWIW, I'll add updates as time goes on. I bought the iron and spray. I sprayed my hair after showering & towel-drying hair. Even though their map says Texas is a non-humid area, they don't realize the eastern portion is, so I used 35 sprays. I let my hair air-dry overnight. The spray is neither moisturizing nor detangling; it doesn't say it is but given the ingredients I thought it may be. I fired up the iron and tested it on a small section of hair per the instructions, and went over the same area 3 times (something I never do). It said my perfect temp was 286. I did have an issue with my hair snagging on the iron through the process. I did my hair as normal and when I was done it looked good. No better than my usual results. After 2 hours I checked the mirror and my hair was frizzy!! My hair is normally wavy/frizz-prone and it looked like I'd done nothing. Grr! I'm hoping that the spray is the miracle product and will do fabulous things with repeated uses. But with the first use, I'm not loving it! *** Edited: ACK! There are two different sets of instructions! The review below is for one; the other says to use the iron on damp hair. I'll be back with a review using that process! *** Edited: OK, used it per the other set of directions. The temp this time was 290. Hair was 90% dry when I started ironing. My hair is now straight (it's normally wavy), but totally frizzy! I have little frizzy bits sticking out everywhere! This is going back. The one positive thing I can say was getting an RMA # was painless!

Styling Products -Sebastian - Potion 9

I don't get the love for this product. It makes my hair crunchy and stiff, it doesn't feel moisturized at all. Even the bottle doesn't say what it is for (maybe the orig. packaging did, if it had any?). Is it protein? Moisture? Heat protectant? Styling aid? ???

Conditioner -Redken - time reset

This conditioner did not condition my hair. I had to use more than usual to feel like it was covering my hair. Afterward, it felt dry. Time was definitely not rewound.

I'm taking off stars because this only seems to get half of the hairs by the root, the rest it somehow tears in half so I'm left with stubble. Still, 1/2 stubble feels better than a leg-full!

OK now THIS made a difference to my hair! It actually looks healthy and nourished; usually it looks dry and frizzy. It did not work so well for me on my cuticles or lips, for those I prefer olive oil (& didn't like olive oil on my hair). *** Edited: future uses of this left my hair feeling dry. :(

Sorry to be the dissenter but this didn't do anything for my hair. It didn't make it better, nor worse. To be fair, though, very few things make my hair look better. I have weird hair I guess.

Powder -Bare Escentuals - Bare Minerals ALL

This enhanced my pores, fine lines, and caused break outs. I've had better luck with regular powders. And it looked orangey on me too.

I got this to try to help the closed comedones that are on my forehead and seem to never go away. This did nothing for them, nor for my skin tone or fine lines.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Pretty Wrap
pearl 5/27/2011 3:24:00 AM
Of all the various hair products I've tried over the years (shampoos, conditioners, leave-ins, treatments, styling products), this is the one that's made the most difference. And all it is is a silk wrap to wear at night over your hair! It keeps my hair from rubbing on a pillow, causing tangles and dried out hair. I'd originally tried the wrap to help prevent hair thinning at the temples. I don't wear it consistently enough to know if it helps with that. What I've noticed most is that, when I use it, my hair looks healthy and silky the next day. And MUCH less frizzy. If I don't use it, the top layer of my hair looks frizzed and dried out. It doesn't matter what products I use on my hair: if I want my hair to look healthy, sleeping with my wrap does it! Despite the silky feel and pretty colors I look very dorky when I sleep. But it works! 10/5/11 ETA: For some reason this also extends the time between washing my hair. If I don't wash nightly and don't wear this cap, my roots look really oily and greasy. If I don't wash but DO wear this cap, my hair looks fine. Even for a 2nd no wash day. Makes no sense but there you have it!

Hair Styling Tools -Unlisted Brand - InStyler-Tre Milano brand

I prefer this to my straightener. Blowdrying with a brush just gives me frizzy hair. Flat irons work but they leave my hair flat and stick straight. The InStyler makes my hair flat and but leaves my hair with body and movement. I also like that it brushes the hair as it goes through the iron, helping to ensure each strand gets straight.

Nails -Unlisted Brand - All Season Professional Light-Less Gel Kit
pearl 3/18/2011 11:49:00 PM
I ran across this while browsing Sally's site and it looked too good to be true -- a do it yourself at home gel kit that required no UV light. It wasn't expensive so I thought I'd give it a try. Application was pretty easy: I laid a drop of the gel on a nail, used the flat nail brush (bought separately), and moved on. When the hand was done I sprayed it and waited a minute before doing anything. I thought there was no way it'd be dry but it was! I did the same with my right. Two problems: I didn't dip the brush in acetone between each nail and it got hard. Am going to try soaking it, since soaking is supposed to remove the gel from your nails. Second problem is my nails are kind of grainy. I need to find a fine-grain buffer and/or improve my technique. Will update soon! Update: i never did conquer the grainy problem, and the gel did not last long on my nails.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Superior Preference Les Blondissimes
pearl 3/1/2011 11:03:00 PM
My hair is dark blonde, the length was previously dyed but I had 2" of natural roots. I think I rinsed too early, because my roots are an awful pumpkin orange. The lengths didn't look too bad. I don't know if I should try again and leave it on longer or hide under a hat. I'm giving an average rating b/c I think I may be at fault -- leave it on 45+ minutes!

Eyes -Unlisted Brand - Roux - Lash & Brow Tint
pearl 1/8/2011 10:52:00 PM
This will not replace your mascara! It does work, my lashes are indeed darker, but after doing this I realized it makes so little difference that I'd rather just stick with mascara. I applied it at home by myself. I used a concealer brush for #1 and a qtip (for lack of having anything else) for #2. The concealer brush worked well but seemed to hold and apply too much liquid. The qtip worked fine; one of those angled ones would have been better. I got some of each in my eye and it STUNG but goes away. It does what it says but personally I want darker thicker longer lashes; 1 out of 3 isn't enough for me.
