Concealers -Jane - No Show oil-free concealer
rated 3 of 5
peachoo 11/4/2007 10:51:00 PM

I have been searching high and low, over mountains and plains, for something to replace my beloved and now discontinued Maybelline EverFresh concealer. Most concealers don't have enough coverage, but this Jane one is right on the money--very much the same consistency as EverFresh. The problem? The color! Being extremely ghostly-faced, I got the Fair. And it doesn't have pink undertones. It doesn't have yellow undertones. It has GRAY. That's right. GRAY. Perhaps even a greenish-gray. I'm not into the person-wasting-away-from-a-consumptive-disease, Madame Bovary-style look, so I suppose my search will go on. Boo.

So, here's a quick overview of the colors. "Medium Ash Brown" comes out black. "Medium Warm Brown" is also black. "Medium Golden Brown"? That's black. "Medium Brown". . . yep, it's black. I haven't tried the dark browns or blacks, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that they most likely turn out black. So, if black hair is what you're after, have a ball.

Concealers -L'Oreal - True Match Super-Blendable Concealer
rated 2 of 5

Love the color range, LOVE the ingenious little brush, but they're not kidding when they say "Super-Blendable"--this blends out into nothing! For concealer, I need a little more coverage--this gives almost no coverage for blemishes or dark spots. I do like it as a light, non-cakey cover-up for under the eye, though.

Other -mark - Cheat Sheet Oil Trapping Films
rated 1 of 5

These just plain stink. The paper is shiny, not very porous and too thin--I need about 8-10 sheets to soak up my oil, as opposed to 2 Clean and Clear sheets. I feel like I'm just pushing the oil around my face and the sheets aren't really soaking them up. Thumbs down.

Conditioner -TRESemme - Vitamin E Moisture Rich Conditioner
rated 5 of 5

Holy cow! The condition of my hair has improved SO MUCH after starting this. It softens just as much as a silicone-laden conditioner withOUT weighing it down/making it feel greasy halfway through the day. Just light, bouncy, soft, shiny hair all day long. Loooooove it.

Other -Unlisted Brand - Emjoi Gently Gold Caress Epilator
rated 4 of 5

I adore my Emjoi Optima. Does it hurt? Of course it hurts! But here's a tip: either wax yourself or get a pro waxing before you use your Emjoi the first time. When you grow out all your hair, using an epilator will absolutely KILL--you'll be sweating and cringing and cursing under your breath. However, when you epilate the fine hairs as they grow back, once or twice a week--not so bad! Of course it takes getting used to, but it's a great investment. I'd rather spend an hour a week with my Emjoi than spend hundreds of dollars on razor blades, constantly nicking myself, and dealing with gross stubble every single day.

This one went straight into the trash after a few days. Turned my hair into a stringy, greasy mop of slime. What's IN this stuff, motor oil?

Treatments -L'Oreal - ColorSpa Moisture Actif [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
peachoo 7/5/2004 5:05:00 PM

Juuuuust tried this right now. I took a hint from the gals who reviewed this and bought way lighter than I wanted--I'm after rich warm dark brown, so I bought "Cocoa", a medium brown. I've always liked the ease of the stacked "click" bottle, and it applied and spread easily and nicely. The smell was pretty strong for a semi-perm; very chemically with some sort of grapefruity "masking" scent over it. I was worried when I washed it out because my hair felt quite yuck--almost like damaged, wet wool. When I rubbed on the conditioner, it felt better. The conditioner, btw, has a lovely smell, like pina colada, but not overpowering. My color's pretty close to what I was aiming for--rich dark brown. Not a lot of highlights, but that's the name of the game with semi-perms. I'll definitely use this again, though I wish L'oreal would offer more colors! What a really want is a warm brown, not an ash. P.S. What's with the hideous box design? It makes the colors look dull and unappealing. I'm not a design snob, but the box is so uninteresting that I never noticed it on the shelves until I read the reviews here! **UPDATE** Week later and my color still looks great--it's faded only enough to let some nice golden highlights show. Noteworthy: the conditioner left what felt like a thick waxy residue in my hair that I could only get out with Neutrogena shampoo. Will use the color again, but not that conditioner!

Eye Shadow -Sonia Kashuk - Enhance Eye Color-Amethyst
rated 3 of 5
peachoo 7/5/2004 5:00:00 PM

I really like Sonia Kashuk's shadows in general, but Amethyst was quite a disappointment. The quality is there (nice blendability, softness, etc.), it's the color that's the bummer. I've been after the perfect shade of medium violet for a while. In the case, this shadow looks durn near perfect--not too blue, not too pink, just a nice simple purple. On, it's aubergine. Kind of a medium dull fuschia pink with a hint of purple. This may be your thing, ain't mine. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Shampoo -Nioxin - Bionutrient Protectives Cleanser (formerly 1C cleanser)
rated 1 of 5
peachoo 7/4/2004 4:50:00 PM

Extremely unhappy with this. I've been using it, along with the mega-smelly Scalp Treatment, for about three weeks in a bid to curb my hair loss. So far: hair still falling out, and my usually shiny, oily hair is now dry, frizzy, and feels like straw! Even if the shampoo delivered, it feel awfully odd massaging something with the same look, feel, and smell as gel toothpaste into my hair.

Eye Makeup Remover -L'Oreal - Refreshing Eye Make Up Remover
rated 5 of 5
peachoo 7/4/2004 1:32:00 AM

Love it, love it, love love love! No need to try any other eye makeup removers. This is non-oily, smells like roses (literally), and removes all my makeup perfectly without stinging. For the record, I use Lash Out mascara, non-waterproof. A little on the pricier side for a drugstore eye makeup remover, but it's worth it. Will repurchase until the end of time!

Conditioner -Nioxin - Scalp Therapy
rated 1 of 5
peachoo 7/1/2004 5:30:00 PM

UGH!!! How can anyone stand to put this reeking stuff on their hair? I've been trying this (along with the shampoo) for three weeks in a bid to curb my hair loss. The smell is like vitamins mixed with cat urine mixed with toxic waste! It actually BURNS my nose (and my scalp) when I apply it! Not to mention that it's left my once-oily hair totally shine-free and strawlike. Having breakouts on my scalp and along my hairline, too. I'm toughing it out for a while longer to see if my hair loss subsides (so far, doesn't seem to be helping in the least), but boy oh boy, I REALLY hate this.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Preference Shine Extending Hair Color
rated 2 of 5
peachoo 5/31/2004 10:57:00 PM

Bought this because of the raves . . . used Medium Brown over my medium brown hair. I was trying to get out the brassiness of a past dye mishap. Although my hair did feel conditioned and soft, and the dye smelled OK, my color turned out terrible. It's a dull, flat dark brown with no shine or highlights. In fact, there's sort of a dull GRAYISH undertone happening. Hopefully in a week it will fade a little and some highlights will shine through, but I'm thoroughly unimpressed.

Eye Shadow -Sonia Kashuk - "gunmetal" enhance eyecolor
rated 4 of 5
peachoo 5/30/2004 2:11:00 PM

I was hoping this would be my perfect silver-grey. It's pretty great, but it DOES have a touch of brown or taupe in it. I'd prefer a straight cool grey, but it's still pretty and very flattering. Goes on smooth, blends well, wears well. I love the white case w/ tiny mirror, but the itty bitty eensy weensy sponge applicator, no bigger than a thumbnail? How the heck are you supposed to wield THAT thing?

Like little shards of glass slicing up one's face. I've had more than one dermatologist warn me against using this. However, it's GREAT for feet! I wouldn't let it within a trillion miles of my face, though.
