Lip Gloss -Illamasqua - Sheer in Lily-Rose
rated 5 of 5
oxymora 5/23/2012 1:00:00 PM

One of my favourite sheerer lip glosses! A gorgeous pink-red which is still produces quite a bit of colour even though it is meant to be sheer. The formula is not sticky or greasy, and I find it stays put very well for a lipgloss. It seems Illamasqua has changed the tubes recently, my other glosses are a squeeze tube but this one arrived today with a wand.

Lipstick -NYX - Round Lipstick in Orange Soda #588
rated 2 of 5
oxymora 5/19/2012 9:34:00 AM

I am a big fan of NYX round lipsticks, and generally I find them to be very good quality. Orange Soda, however, falls flat on it's face due to the formula, which is similar to the fail that is Strawberry Milk. It's just too creamy and slippery and hard to get a nice finish without quite a bit of work. Don't let this one put you off other NYX lipsticks though!

Lipstick -Illamasqua - Apocalips
rated 4 of 5
oxymora 3/20/2012 3:11:00 PM

Apocalips is a matte teal from the Human Fundamentalism collection. It really is a true teal, and is very pigmented and opaque! I also found it to be long lasting, and it didn't stain my lips when I took it off. However, being a matte formula, it can be rather drying and accentuates the flaws on my lips, so I take off one lippie for that. I wouldn't be brave enough to wear this just for casual everyday use, so one tube will last me a long time! If for some reason I did manage to run out, I'd definitely buy it again. It really is a unique and eyecatching colour!

Lip Treatments -Maybelline - Baby Lips lip balm
rated 3 of 5
oxymora 3/18/2012 1:13:00 PM

I don't think these are sold in the UK so I bought them from a US seller on eBay. I bought three of the "tinted" ones - Grape Vine, Cherry Me, and Pink Punch. The packaging of these balms is very cute - I'm a sucker for colourful packaging and this was definitely one of the reasons I bought them. The balms themselves are nothing out of the ordinary - Maybelline claims that these are "clinical strength", I don't know about that but they do make my lips feel soft. I don't get 8 hours of moisture out of them, contrary to Maybelline's claims. Providing I don't eat or drink, these last an hour or so on me. They smell yummy but taste a bit synthetic and soapy. As for the tint - I don't find any of the three I bought very pigmented at all and was a bit disappointed with the sheerness of them. But they might suit you if you don't like lipsticks and just want a hint of colour. Pros: + cute, colourful packaging + smell fruity and yummy + lips feel soft + cheap price Cons: - not long-lasting, keep having to re-apply - not as moisturising as Maybelline says it is - tints not very pigmented - weird "soapy" taste I would probably buy again, but I prefer Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer or Revlon Lip Butters.

Lipstick -NYX - Round Lipstick in Strawberry Milk #595
rated 2 of 5
oxymora 3/14/2012 11:07:00 AM

I have a lot of NYX's lipsticks, and I generally love them to bits, but Strawberry Milk is a dud. I give it two lippies because the colour is beautiful - the name is apt, it really is just like strawberry milk. The consistency is very creamy, but unfortunately a bit TOO creamy, and this is where this lipstick falls down.... Application is really difficult without a hell of a lot of blotting and hassle. The colour settled into my lip lines and just looked horrible. A good gloss can make it work, but only just. And don't even think about using this if your lips have the slightest imperfection or are a bit chapped, as Strawberry Milk will highlight every problem. For the record, I am NOT picky with lipstick and can usually make most formulas work. I'm not a snob either, though I love MAC I also have a lot of cheaper brands like NYX and MUA. But Strawberry Milk is pretty bad, that's all there is to it. It may be cheap, but it's still a waste as I could've picked up one of the better shades to work with. A great shame because it really is a beautiful colour!

Lipstick -MAC - Viva Glam Nicki
rated 5 of 5
oxymora 3/14/2012 10:57:00 AM

In the tube, I see bright coral pink, but on my lips, it's just one hell of a hot pink with not much coral showing up against my very pale skin. But still, I absolutely ADORE this lipstick. Very bright and eye-catching colour and the formula is creamy and comfortable. My mum thinks it's "too much", which means it's a winner in my book ;)

Lipstick -Estee Lauder - Signature Hydra Lustre In Black Cherry
rated 5 of 5
oxymora 3/9/2012 3:29:00 PM

Usually MAC is my first stop for lipstick, but I was passing the Estee Lauder counter at Boots and thought I'd check it out. This is a beautiful lipstick. The formula is really moisturising, great if you get dry lips, and the berry red shade is stunning. I'll definitely re-purchase.

A cool bright pink which will really make a statement. Very creamy, smooth consistency which feels comfortable on my lips. NYX has a winner here

Lipstick -NYX - Round Lipstick - Shiva
rated 4 of 5

Shiva is a frosty, shimmery fuschia. The pink itself is warm, but the shimmer reflects purple, almost blue, making it a really nice colour for cooler complexions.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Paint Pot in Painterly
rated 5 of 5
oxymora 1/3/2012 3:56:00 PM

This is definitely a holy grail product for me. All the hype and rave reviews Painterly receives are well deserved. I don't know how I wore eyeshadows before I discovered this, but now I couldn't live without it in my makeup stash. My eyeshadows stay put all day and never EVER crease. I sometimes also wear it alone if I want a more natural look, and it still doesn't budge, and brightens my eyelids. The Paint Pot formula is perfect, and Painterly in particular is wonderful for my skin tone, and I'm pretty pale. I like UDPP too, but Paint Pots are a little bit tackier which is better for making sure eyeshadows stick!

Eye Shadow -Clarins - Colour quartet for eyes 10 celestial shimmers
rated 5 of 5
oxymora 12/2/2011 2:18:00 PM

I love this palette, I saw my mum buy it once years ago before I really got into makeup, and she keeps re-buying and re-buying it even now. So I thought I'd see what the fuss is about. Well, the colours are really beautiful, online pics don't do them justice - they are quite shimmery and almost duo-chrome. My fave is the green. I mainly use these as highlight shades - with a primer underneath, they really stand out. Love love love!!!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Telescopic Explosion
rated 2 of 5
oxymora 9/4/2011 4:57:00 PM

I'm afraid I'll have to agree with other reviewers, this mascara is far too clumpy. I'll give it two lippies for being able to reach the lashes in the inner corners of my eyes, which is something I find difficult with a "normal" mascara wand. However, this wand picks up too much product which I have to waste by wiping the excess on a tissue before applying. Very disappointed!

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - Infallible Eyeshadow - 05 Purple Obsession
rated 4 of 5
oxymora 8/25/2011 7:04:00 PM

I got this free when I bought a L'Oreal mascara, and I admit I wasn't expecting much. However, I was really suprised by the high pigmentation of this eyeshadow. It goes on really smoothly due to the additional binders, and doesn't crease (though I always use a primer anyway, so can't say how this would look alone). Very impressed. My only gripe is the colour range - that is, there isn't much of one.

Fragrances -Nina Ricci - L'Air du Temps
rated 5 of 5

I first stumbled upon L'Air du Temps in shower gel form, and decided to try the fragrance. A really soft, beautiful scent, soapy and comforting. A timeless classic.

Fragrances -Donna Karan - Be Delicious
rated 3 of 5
oxymora 8/25/2011 6:57:00 PM

All I smell is apple, melon and cucumber. I don't really get much floral. I don't think it works very well with my body chemistry, as I get a sort of "sweaty" scent after a while; I can't quite explain it. The bottle is cute, but a bit hard to handle in my opinion. Sillage is good though. Overall, it's OK, but it doesn't have much depth to it. A bit boring, really.
