Hair Styling Tools -Unlisted Brand - Solia Ceramic Ion Flat Iron
nutterbutterstar 12/30/2009 11:17:00 PM
I decided to buy a "nice" flat iron after a couple years of using my Remington iron with mediocre results. I stupidly figured that a more expensive brand name iron would be better than something bought at Target...I was wrong. I have semi-thick wavy hair, but the top layer is straight (very annoying). I always use a heat protectant. For reference, my Remington would need several passes before it got straight and looked good. I tried the Solia out at 370 degrees first, and it failed. At the highest temp it worked better, but it still needed several passes and never got fully straight and never looked good. For starters, it looks and feels cheap. It snags my hair. It didn't straighten no matter how slow I passed it through my hair or how high the temperature was. It didn't leave my hair feeling soft or looking silky. It doesn't get close enough to the root which leaves me with wavy roots/dents. It left my hair looking oddly greasy rather than shiny. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone; even those with straight hair should stay away due to the excessive snagging. Horrible product. I ordered it from Folica, and I will be returning it.

Conditioner -Aveeno - Nourish + Condition Leave-In Treatment
nutterbutterstar 6/25/2009 12:27:00 AM
Wow. This is one the best products I've ever used on my hair. Thanks again MUA, you were right! It detangled my wet hair easily and made my hair feel sleek while it was still wet. After blowdrying, my hair looked so smooth and healthy, and it felt so soft! Plus it smells good. Only downside: I wish the spray bottle sprayed more of a mist rather than a spritz, if that makes sense. I will definitely buy this again, and I hope Aveeno doesn't discontinue it!

Concealers -Urban Decay - 24/7 Concealer in DEA
nutterbutterstar 3/15/2009 6:58:00 PM
I also reviewed this under the "all" category for these concealer pencils. After discovering that my favorite under-eye concealer, L'oreal Infalliable concealer, was being discontinued, I was scared I wouldn't find anything. I checked MUA and saw that this was getting really great reviews for covering dark circles. I have got very dark genetic circles and under-eye bags that no cream/brightener/serum will ever get rid of, so I rely on concealer to "tame" them. Now I know that no concealer will ever be able to fully make my dark circles disappear, but this pencil is the best that I've ever tried! It's creamy enough that it blends wonderfully and thick enough that it covers the darkness. Best of all, it really does last throughout the day, even after I work out and sweat! I'm fair and bought this is DEA which matched my old Infalliable which I bought in Light. The shade ranges are all pretty light which is great for me, but I wouldn't recommend this for darker skin tones or you might end up with reverse raccoon eyes. I like the pencil as it makes it easy to apply precisely to any blemishes or small areas of redness. The only problem is that if you don't set it with powder, it can settle into fine lines. This has great, natural coverage for dark circles, blemishes, etc! Love!

Self Tanners -Jergens - Natural Glow Foaming Daily Moisturizer-Medium Tan
nutterbutterstar 3/8/2009 3:41:00 PM
I tried the Jergens NG lotion when it first came out. I absolutely hated the smell as well as waiting for the lotion to dry and then feeling sticky. This new foam just came out, and I figured why not try it. I much prefer foams to lotions since they dry fast and don't leave a sticky film. However, regular self tan foams always look unnatural and orangey on me. I was excited to see a gradual self tan foam like this. I tried it, and I love it! It dries quickly, and there is barely any scent that I can detect. Usually, that horrible smell shows up after you apply, but I smelled hardly any with this stuff-barely noticeable! The amount you get is small (5 oz), and for around $8 it's a bit pricey. However, you only need a small amount! Don't overdue it or you'll be struggling to rub it all in over your entire body before it dries. Also, it actually does moisturize. Usually my skin will feel itchy and tight if I don't use a moisturizer, but my skin was soft and smooth when I woke up. I haven't noticed any streaking. The only downside is that it takes some effort to get the foam out - I'd rather it was a pump. Update: After using this twice I am noticeably darker. I look naturally tan, no orange-ness at all! There's no streaking either. Love this stuff! Update: I used this for a week, and a natural-looking dark tan developed evenly. It lasted after I stopped using as well!

Lip Treatments -Blistex - Deep Renewal
nutterbutterstar 12/16/2008 10:19:00 PM
This stuff was horrible for me. I don't know if it's Blistex products in general (Silk & Shine was also bad) or what. I didn't like the sweet mint scent/taste. Too overpowering imo. The worst thing about this balm is that it dries out my lips (as did S&S)! I still use it bc I hate wasting stuff, so I usually wear it underneath petroleum jelly. Didn't improve the look of my lips or anything. Just made them dry and flaky. Def. wouldn't repurchase this.

Treatments (Eye) -L'Oreal - skin genesis daily treatment eye serum
nutterbutterstar 12/13/2008 5:05:00 PM
It's harder for me to know if a product really works until I stop using it. I first tried this after reading the positive reviews. I've got horrible under-eye skin: hereditary dark circles, fatty bags, dry skin. Using this, I noticed that it was lot easier to apply concealer without getting any flakies. After using this product and switching to another (Grassroots de-puff eye cream), my under-eye skin has gone back to being horrible: flaking, more noticeable circles, so puffy! This stuff was not a miracle worker, and I know that the only way *I* will ever get rid of my problems is through plastic surgery. However, what I love about this cream is that, with concealer, my eyes look sooo much better! The dark circles are there but not as prominent. The bags are there, but the fine lines that make them look worse diminish. My skin isn't flaky and feels moisturized. What I also love is the packaging. I hate pots, and the pump bottle makes it much more hygienic. Also, it took *a lot* of prying, but if you take the cap off, there's still product in there! Overall, this a great eye cream if you've got fine lines, circles, or bags! I'm repurchasing my second pump :)

Lip Gloss -Bare Escentuals - Buxom Lips Lip Gloss Candi
nutterbutterstar 3/23/2008 4:26:00 PM
Love this stuff! I never even thought to buy lip gloss from BE since they're mostly known for their foundations. The box packaging is adorable! A different pin-up girl for every color. The gloss is in a clear plastic tube with "Buxom Lips" written in silver and a silver wand. It has a sponge applicator that picks up the perfect amount of gloss! It's a bright rosy berry (Sephora describes it as a shimmering soft berry) with pink shimmer. I've got fair complexion, and this color looks fab on me. It really brightens up my face! It's got an unoffensive cake batter/vanilla scent which I love. It's slightly sticky and is long lasting. This is supposed to be a plumping gloss, but it doesn't burn my lips. Instead, it has a tingly cooling sensation which can make your tongue feel a little numb if it gets in your mouth, nothing scary though! I don't notice an insane plumping effect (I don't really need any plumping so this isn't a problem for me), so if you have thin lips and are looking for a miracle product this isn't it. I do notice that it plumps up my top lip. Overall, I would buy more of these glosses!

Lip Gloss -Stila - Apricot Lip Glaze
nutterbutterstar 3/23/2008 4:11:00 PM
This is my first Lip Glaze. The price is a bit steep for me ($22), but I would probably buy more. It's packaged in a click pen, and like other reviewers said, it can be a bit awkward clicking a bunch of times waiting for the lip gloss to dispense. I've found that if I click it a bunch ahead of time, there is enough gloss in the brush to reapply for the whole day. Apricot is a very light peach glimmer, and it shows up neutral/clear on me which I don't mind. The scent is unoffensive and refreshing just like apricots! It's very sticky, but it lasts forever. I'm looking forward to trying out some other scents/colors :)

Lip Gloss -Lola Cosmetics - Lip Indulgence in Passion Fruit
nutterbutterstar 3/23/2008 4:02:00 PM
I'm a lip gloss junkie, so I'm always trying new products. This is my first Lola purchase, and I know I'll be getting more from this line! The color is shimmery peachy-pink (on their site it's described as a golden coral)...perfect for summer. It combines mango, coconut, passion fruit and papaya butters which makes it smell fantastic! Fruity and refreshing. It's packaged in a clear tube with a lip brush. Other reviewers have complained about the brush, but I have no problems with it. It deposits a good amount so you don't have to keep pumping for color, it's soft, it hasn't splayed, and it has a precise tip. As for the gloss itself...This stuff makes my lips feel buttery soft! It glides on incredibly smoothly and truly moisturizes my lips. It's not sticky at all, just smooth and soft! The lasting power is moderate; I have to reapply after eating. Overall, this lip gloss is amazing, and I will be purchasing more!

Makeup Brushes -Too Faced - Retractable Kabuki Brush
nutterbutterstar 2/3/2008 6:27:00 PM
I love this brush! After reading the reviews on MUA I became curious and had to have it. I found it at Ulta for about $30, and my SO got it for me as an Xmas present :) The packaging is adorable: a metallic pink with matte flowers and the TF brand printed on it. Since it's retractable, it's easy to use and store. I only use synthetic brushes, and this is the softest I've ever found! The brush itself is beautiful with a white base and darker bristles on the top. It's dense and, like I already mentioned, extremely soft. I use this to apply my mineral powder foundation, and it blends the powder seamlessly. I wouldn't repurchase since I think it's going to last!

Makeup Brushes -Lancome - Precision Liner - Brush #14
nutterbutterstar 2/3/2008 6:08:00 PM
I just got into cream/gel liners, and this is my first liner brush. It was easy to figure out and use. I can make a fine line or build up the color for bolder line which is great. My only complaint is the size of brush (not the handle) which is too long width wise. I would prefer it to be smaller so that I could be more precise and have more control to wing out the liner. Overall, this is good brush for beginners.

Loose Powders -Cover Girl - TruBlend Naturally Luminous Loose Powder
nutterbutterstar 2/3/2008 5:58:00 PM
This is loose powder from the Trublend line. You get a lot of product for the price, and I think this will last me a long time. I purchased this in translucent fair (I'm NC 20-25) and the color is great. It's got shimmery particles, the "luminous" aspect. This is an ok product that I wouldn't repurchase. The packaging is very flimsy, and the cap get cracked very easily. The product itself is too shimmery for my taste. It looks nice at first but just makes my skin look oily after about an hour. The powder itself is too gritty. Maybe if it was more finely milled I would like it better. There are better loose powders out there.

Skincare - Face -Olay - Age Defying Protective Renewal Lotion
nutterbutterstar 2/3/2008 5:40:00 PM
I've been using this in conjunction with the beta hydroxy cream. The combination of the two has been working wonders on my skin! I use the cream at night and this lotion during the day. It's got spf 15 built in which is nice. It's a light lotion that sinks into the skin wonderfully. The scent is unoffensive, and my skin hasn't shown any signs of irritation after a month's use. It's packaged in a squeeze bottle which is fine, but I would prefer a pump bottle. I've noticed a positive change in my skin. My pores look smaller, and I've been breaking out less :) I would repurchase and recommend this!

Moisturizers -Olay - Age Defying Daily Renewal Cream - Beta Hydroxy Complex
nutterbutterstar 2/3/2008 5:30:00 PM
I've been using this is conjunction with the spf lotion version (I reviewed that as well), and the combination of the two is working great so far. I've been using this for about a month, and it's awesome! No breakouts and bad reactions for me. It's goes on very smooth and absorbs quickly, leaving my skin soft and moisturized. It's a cream so it has a thick consistency, but it doesn't feel heavy on my skin. I only use this at night while I use the lotion in the morning. It doesn't sting or cause any redness, and it has definitely made my skin look better. I have less blemishes, less redness, my pores look smaller. I don't really mind the jar, but I would prefer and pump or bottle. Overall my skin is loving this cream, and I would buy again.
