Moisturizers -La Roche Posay - Toleriane Ultra

The entire Toleriane line is fantastic. Ingredients are basic, nothing smells or stings. My skin developed some redness a few years ago and it tends towards being dry, and I use the Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser (the milky one) and this moisturiser and they make a fantastic combination. My skin is dry enough that it sinks in quicky and doesn't feel greasy at all. I've repurchased several times, although if I could find an organic alternative I would be happy to replace it.

I'd repurchase if I ever ran out of this. I own several products from RMS beauty and I really like most of them. This is one of my everyday essentials. I wear Jane Iredale pressed base, RMS concealer under the eyes (not quite a perfect colour, but a nice texture), and a little of this in the corner of the eyes to brighten them up. I just ran a little of this on the back of my hand to check the colour and it really does look like light catching the skin. It doesn't run too silver or gold, and is great for my NW15 skin.

I give a very enthusiastic thumbs up to this product. It's a gorgeous vibrant coral cream product that you can use on lips and cheeks. I've had mine for two years, use it almost daily, and have barely made a dent in the pot. So at this rate I'll probably have to throw it out before I run out. Amazing beautiful colour that really wakes up my NW15 skin.

Concealers -Unlisted Brand - RMS Beauty 'Un Cover-Up

I wish there was a "maybe" option to the "Would you buy this again?" question. I like this concealer a lot. I pat it gently around the eye area and it blends in so nicely with the skin. It lasts well. The only problem is that I am an NW15 and this concealer is way too yellow and a bit too dark for me, so for half the year I can't really use it. I wish it came in a wide range of colours, because if it did it would really be a favourite product.

Powder -Jane Iredale - Pure Pressed Base

This stuff has literally saved my skin. A couple of years ago (perhaps thanks to aging, or perhaps thanks to a Dr Hauschka experiment gone awry) I started getting very frequent spots along my jawline, chin, and occasionally cheeks. Since my skin is naturally extremely dry, there didn't seem to be much I could do to treat it. I have tried most skincare brands/cleansing methods (oil method? never again), etc. but nothing helped. I started using this stuff about 8 months ago, and my skin has been pretty constantly good ever since. It's still not "perfect" -- but it wasn't to begin with. I have repurchased this (even though I am aching to try something new because I am fickle like that) and I'll keep doing so until it stops giving me such great results. Coverage is sheer but buildable. I have to put this on over moisturizer (with SPF, obv) and occasionally the "Dream Tint" product for an extra moisture boost because otherwise I can look a bit flaky. I like this way, way better than Bare Escentuals, Alima Pure, Everyday Minerals, etc. This stuff is amazing.

Blush -Unlisted Brand - Revolution Organics Freedom Glow Sunkissed

I love this product. I remember years ago Pout made these beautiful, creamy blush sticks, and I was so disappointed that NARS et al made such dry, gross, unblendable ones. (At least the ones I tried.) This is beautifully creamy (like the ones I remember from Pout) and blends beautifully. The colour is gorgeous for a NC15 face (like mine) and very summery. I bought blushed, too, but I can't wear that if my face looks at all flushed (as it sometimes does if my skin is irritated) because I look like a clown.

Scrubs -Dermalogica - Daily Microfoliant
rated 4 of 5
neverseenblue 4/18/2011 12:15:00 AM

This is my new favourite exfoliant, albeit a pricey one. I paid $72 CDN for this (shockingly) after a facial. I love that it's gentle and fine-grained. My skin tends towards being dry-combination, and I use this once (maybe twice at the most) per week. It doesn't dry my skin out and I think it really makes me glow. My big complaint is the price. How expensive does this really have to be? That, and you do have to be so careful not to get water inside the product or you've ruined it. I dropped the bottle in the sink the other day and almost had a heart attack.

Lip Gloss -Beaute Cosmetics - Luminous Volume Gloss

I bought this is Urge, which is a sheer-but-buildable red gloss. I've been looking for a colour like this for about six years, ever since I bought my sister an identical one from Sephora in Paris that she loved but I couldn't replace. This one is the same colour but a much better consistency -- has good lasting power, and is plumping but doesn't taste like fake mint. I'm going to go back this week to get another Urge for my sister and maybe some more colours for myself. I bought this at Holt Renfrew in Vancouver. It was $26, which seems reasonable for a high end lipgloss. Beautiful, sleek packaging, too.

I never would have bought this if it wasn't for the SA's recommendation, but I love it. She recommended wearing it on the outer corner of my eye with a light silvery colour on the inner corner. I blend them together and wear Heather on my browbone. I actually love this colour. It gives me one of my few "unique" makeup looks and gives me a break from neutrals, neturals, neutrals.

Lipstick -NARS - Mitzi

I understand that this colour is pretty in the tube, but I would warn any MUAers with pigmented lips to try before they buy. I bought a tube of this without trying it and had to return it since I got absolutely no colour out of it. Not even a MLBB-shimmer, or anything remotely visible. It was just ML. My lips. Not better, not worse. I might as well have put on some lip balm.

Makeup Brushes -Laura Mercier - Flat Eyeliner Brush
rated 4 of 5
neverseenblue 6/14/2006 5:19:00 PM

This thing has changed my makeup routine. I never thought of tightlining until the MA did it at the LM counter in Holt's. Then I skipped away, thinking the cake eyeliner and brush were too expensive and I'd just get something cheaper. But nothing makes my eyes stand out like using this brush and the cake e/l in Mahogany Brown. I wet the brush and make a glue-like consistency (not too runny or it will smear) and then dot it into the upper lashline and wiggle slightly to distribute the colour. It makes my lashes look thicker and my eyes stand out. I don't think I would be without it now. It's a bit finicky for when you are in a hurry, but if you have an extra 5 minutes, it makes your eyes look incredible.

Lipstick -Chanel - Rouge Allure in Evocation

Great nude-peach lipstick. Goes on very light but can be built up for more colour. Also feels very light and creamy on the lips-- a lovely texture. The packaging on the new Rouge Allure line is cute: it kind of clicks open like a pen. This is my first Rouge Allure lipstick but I'm going to get more. I have my eye on Sexy, Passion, and Emotion.

Lipstick -Chanel - Aqualumiere 52 Maya
rated 5 of 5
neverseenblue 5/23/2006 2:21:00 PM

This is amazing. I am in love. I'd like to thank the reviewer who compared this colour to the one Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany's. I am constantly searching for a lipstick like that one, and I read this review and went to check this colour out. A couple of stores didn't carry this so I think it might be discontinued, but if not I will buy it again and again. This lipstick doesn't have a strong perfumey fragrance like other Chanel lipsticks I've tried, but smells faintly of fruit or something pleasant. It's a very sheer peachy-pink with a slight shimmer (no glitter!) that has zero lasting power. Still love it though and am wearing it all the time. I haven't yet had any problems with dryness. I also intend to buy more Aqualumieres when I have earned some more money, as these are a bit expensive! $30 CDN.

Eye Shadow -Estee Lauder - Pure Color - Honey Drop
rated 3 of 5
neverseenblue 5/22/2006 1:57:00 AM

This is a pretty pinky-peach colour with shimmer, very similar to MAC's Jest, in my opinion, but with less frost. I like it and wear it a lot, but it's so similar to Jest that I'll likely buy Jest again next time and save myself $12CAN. If Jest was too frosty for you, try this. EDIT: This lasted about 10 hours on me, even through a nap! (I know, I know, so bad for my skin.) It lasted until I took it off. I don't think I've ever had an eyeshadow do that before.

Blush -Estee Lauder - BlushLights 'Honeyshimmer'
rated 4 of 5
neverseenblue 5/22/2006 1:51:00 AM

Sooooo gorgeous! I bought this because I read that Gwyneth Paltrow wore it and we have the same colouring (stupid reason, I know). But I don't regret it! It's so gorgeous. The claim to create cheekbones sounds ridiculous, but I think it works because the blush is slightly shimmery, so when you apply it the area immediately underneath the blush looks more hollow. If that makes any sense at all. The colour is a great bronzy neutral with gold shimmer, but not an offensive gold shimmer. Points off for price ($35CAN -- too much for blush). The packaging is okay- dark blue compact with a mirror.
