Cleansers -Ponds - Deep Cleanser Cold Cream
rated 2 of 5

I used this product for quite awhile. It removed makeup quite well. I would use it solely for makeup removal and then I would use a different cleanser after for my skin. It was one of the only drugstore products that effectively would remove makeup completely. However, I repurchased about a month ago for the first time in awhile (the jar is so large it lasts for awhile) and the formula is completely different. I thought I got a bad batch or something until I checked on MUA and saw the formula changed. It's horrible. It doesn't remove my makeup hardly at all and leaves my skin feeling more gunked up than before using it. I will not repurchase unless I hear they went back to the old formula. I'm so irritated because now I have to hunt down a good cleanser through trial & error.

Powder -Bare Escentuals - Bare Minerals ALL
rated 5 of 5

I have very acne prone skin. I have been using Bare Minerals foundation for the past 3 years and no other makeup has been so gentle on my skin. I could never go back to any other type of foundation.

Shampoo -Thermasilk - Volumizing Shampoo
rated 3 of 5
mybrowngouda 12/12/2004 7:50:00 PM

This shampoo did volumize my hair but totally washed out my color. I would not recommend this shampoo to people with color treated hair. It is a good shampoo though and I do recommend it to people that need volume and use heat styling on a regular basis.

Liquid -Almay - Skin Stays Clean [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
mybrowngouda 12/12/2004 7:48:00 PM

This is my HG foundation. I don't ever purchase high-end foundations simply because I can't afford it. I love Almay because their foundations have a yellow base instead of the pink/red base that Cover Girl and other have. Skin Stays Clean is one of the very few foundations that does not break out my acne prone skin. It has good staying power and yet cleans well. The opening to the bottle is really wide so it's pretty easy to spill so you have to be careful. This line also has the perfect shades for me to mix and blend, especially in the spring & fall when my skin color is changing. I usually just pour into the palm of my hand and blend in with my fingers. I love this foundation, no matter what else I try, I always come back to this.

Treatments -KMS California - Color Vitality
rated 5 of 5
mybrowngouda 12/12/2004 7:45:00 PM

I really have enjoyed this product. I use KMS Color Vitality shampoo and Biolage Color Care conditioner and then will spray this color vitality color protectant on and it really helps keep color from fading and detangles without weighing down my hair. I will keep repurchasing this and recommend it to anyone with color treated hair.

Masks -Queen Helene - Mint Julep Masque
rated 5 of 5
mybrowngouda 12/12/2004 7:42:00 PM

This is a really good masque. I have acne prone skin with an oily T-zone and it does dry my skin out a little so I only use once a week but it really does do a "deep-clean" of my pores. I haven't had any miracle happenings with it like some members have claimed, such as pimples disappearing overnight but it definitely does help with any skincare routine. It is definitely my HG mask and is a staple in my bathroom. I wish it could somehow come in a pump. But, you definitely can't beat the price and you can find it everywhere! I've even bought it at the grocery store before. Definitely recommend to everyone.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous Waterproof
rated 5 of 5
mybrowngouda 12/12/2004 7:39:00 PM

I enjoy this mascara. I got it on sale I think at Walgreens for like $1.99 so I couldn't beat the price. I'm not really loyal to any mascara as long as it's black and waterproof. This mascara has pleased me. Has good staying power yet cleans off easily. All in all, a good waterproof mascara.

Lotions/ Creams -Palmers - Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula
rated 4 of 5
mybrowngouda 12/12/2004 7:36:00 PM

This lotion is very moisturizing. Although, it does smell like cocoa, I don't enjoy smelling like cocoa so it doesn't really please me. I've used this lotion when I go to the tanning bed and get just as good results as when using the expensive tanning lotions. This lotion really makes my skin very soft and I can use it on my chest and back without getting breakouts. My SIL swears by this lotion as she used it every day of her pregnancy and has NO stretch marks to show for it. This is definitely a keeper. I would recommend getting the bigger bottle that has the pump.

Lotions/ Creams -Queen Helene - Cocoa Butter Creme
rated 3 of 5
mybrowngouda 12/12/2004 7:33:00 PM

This product wasn't what it's cracked up to be. I don't like body butters. And the packaging is horrible, it's in a big tub so it gets all in your fingernails and everything. It is really greasy and takes hours to really soak into the skin. I think the smell is fine, it just smells like tanning lotion. But, it is too greasy for my liking. I have a 99% full tub of this if anyone would like to have it...just let me know.

Eyeliner -Bobbi Brown - Gel Eyeliner
rated 4 of 5
mybrowngouda 12/12/2004 7:31:00 PM

This is a great eyeliner. Has great staying power. It is a little expensive for my taste and I don't really like using a brush to put my eyeliner on, it would be great if this formula came in a stick form, kind of like a lipstick or something for easier application. But, all in all, this is the best eyeliner I've ever used.

Conditioner -Matrix - Biolage - Detangling Solution
rated 3 of 5
mybrowngouda 12/12/2004 7:29:00 PM

This is a pretty good conditioner. I prefer the Color Care Conditioner to this solution. It does work very well to detangle but it leaves my hair a little limp. Overall, it is just average, in my opinion. Although, I do love the scent. You can get great deals on this when beauty stores have the liter sales but I prefer something a little lighter and formulated for color treated hair.

Shampoo -KMS California - Color Vitality Shampoo
rated 4 of 5
mybrowngouda 12/12/2004 7:26:00 PM

I was skeptical of trying this shampoo as it doesn't have the greatest ratings from MUA but I tried it and I love it. I have very thick long color treated hair and this shampoo is simply a great shampoo. It cleans well, I enjoy the smell, and it protects my color very well. I use a demi-perm color and the color lasts for a good 8 weeks. The packaging is average for a shampoo bottle. It would be nice if the bottle could accommodate a pump but it'll do. I pair this shampoo with Biolage Color Care conditioner and my hair is full of volume, shine, and smells great afterwards...not sure if it's just good genes or the shampoo but I will definitely keep repurchasing this shampoo.

Hair Color -Wella - Color Charm Demi-Permanent Hair Color
rated 5 of 5
mybrowngouda 12/12/2004 7:21:00 PM

I am so thankful for the recs I got for this product from the ladies on the hair board. I have never colored my hair at home and I was having some major anxiety about doing it. Some people will just live if they get a bad color job, but I would just die if that happened. My hair is my best feature, so I was really nervous about coloring it myself. I had went from being a blonde my entire life to a brunette, done by a professional at a salon using Redken Shades EQ demi-perm color and I loved the brunette and wanted to keep it up but couldn't afford to go to the salon every 8 weeks. So, I did research on hair coloring so I wouldn't feel so lost and I decided to go with the Wella Color Charm demi-perm and I am sooo happy. I blended 2 shades together, I used 1 oz. Dark Sand and 1 oz. Light Natural Brown with 4 oz. of developer and got a very rich dark chocolate brown with a subtle warm shine. I LOVE IT!! The entire 6 oz. solution was enough to color all of my hair, which was very economical because total cost for just the color & developer plus the pH normalizing solution to use after I rinsed out the color was $11 plus tax at Sally's, which is a hell of a lot cheaper than the usual $125 I have to pay at the salon. I have very thick long hair (see pics in my profile) and my hair is still as healthy as it was before I used this product and I will definitely be using this product for a very very long time. I recommend this to anyone that is nervous about home hair coloring. Also - make sure you do a strand test before coloring to make sure the color is what you want.

Styling Products -TiGi - Bed Head After Party
rated 5 of 5
mybrowngouda 9/4/2004 1:53:00 PM

This product is awesome!! I have long, very thick, naturally wavy hair and when I want to straigten it, I always use After Party. It tames fly aways and gives my whole head from the scapl to the ends a really clean, shiny look. I usually rub about a quarter size amount in my palms and run through my hair starting right below my ears. If you put it towards the scalp, it can make the top look greasy. This is a definite MUST for anyone that uses a blow dryer and has frizz or fly aways.
