Brows -LORAC - Colored Brow Wax
mitsubachi 9/23/2004 1:53:00 PM
This is a soft, tinted wax meant to keep brow hairs in place while adding a bit of color. Since I have black hair, I bought this in Brunette, the darkest color. I can't use a brush with this because it fills in my brows with color which is actually a reddish-brown instead of a dark brown that appears in the pot. I can apply it if i use my pinky finger to apply it, but that just gets messy. I'm really disappointed in this product, especially since it is $16. This is going back to sephora.com.

Treatments -Bath and Body Works - Pure Simplicity Burdock Root Skin Mattifier [DISCONTINUED]
mitsubachi 3/15/2004 12:51:00 PM
I have VERY oily skin. so oily that the Peter Thomas Roth mattifying gel lets oil peek through an hour after application. Mary Kay did the same thing, but it also broke me out. Clinique -- same thing. The Clean & Clear sheets work fine, but again... oil surfaces after 30 minutes to an hour.
I was browsing around B&BW and asked for the rice blotting papers (eh, i know they're d/c'd but i wanted to see if they were coming out with something similar). The SA showed me the Burdock Root mattifying gel, and let me put some on my forehead. I walked around the mall for a few hours, and my face was still oil-free! I put it on this morning around 9AM, walked outside in humid weather, and still no shine!
If you're looking for your HG mattifier, give this a try. All I need to do now is test this as an e/s base =)
Update: So far this mattifier works the best out of all the others I've tried. It lasts for hours instead of just 1. Tonight, I used it as an e/s base before going out. I applied a dot of this gel and massaged into each eyelid. After the gel set, I applied my e/s as usual. That was at 7PM this evening. It's now 12AM and my e/s still has not creased! Sure, it's nighttime, but it's kind of humid here right now so I'm definitely sold on this product! I've FINALLY found a HG mattifier!

Conditioner -Dove - Foam Conditioner- Extra Volume
mitsubachi 3/7/2004 2:36:00 AM
Because I have oily hair, I have a problem with conditioners -- even oil-free ones. They always weigh my hair down.
While in Wal-Mart the other day, I saw a can of what looked like Dove Mousse. It's actually a mousse-style, "non rusting" can of foaming conditioner. I think this is a great idea, especially for fine hair, since you get light conditioning without weighdown. You still get great manageability as though you've used a conditioning cream or a traditional conditioner formula.
What I love most about this hair product is the Dove bar smell. It smells so soft and clean. At about $3 USD, I would definitely buy this again.

Misc Beauty Tools -Sephora - Cosmetic bag-Travel Clutch
mitsubachi 2/14/2004 2:15:00 AM
I love this little makeup bag! I bought it in black because I wanted to be able to use it as an evening clutch. This fits a mascara, lipstick, my Shu curler, a mirror, some blotting sheets, and amazingly, my cell phone as well! I think I might buy another one as a backup just in case Sephora happens to discontinue/sell out of these!

Mascara -Talika - Lipocils
mitsubachi 2/14/2004 12:27:00 AM
I'll admit at first I was really skeptical about a miracle lash product. After noticing a sparse area in my lashes (and a bad brow waxing experience), I figured I'd try it.
First let me tell you about the waxing experience. I asked the waxer to just "clean up" the brows. Instead, she chooses to wax more off than I liked, and changed the shape. Not only that, but my brows seemed sparse. I wasn't that mad since I knew my brows would grow back for reshaping (and it wasn't a HORRIBLE wax)... eventually. For weeks I obsessed over my brows, trimming and tweezing to make sure they grew at the same rate. But they were still sparse.
I just bought this product last week, and I'm already writing a review! After 10 days of religiously using this day and night, I'm already noticing that my brow hairs are thicker and they no longer look sparse. I'm tweezing the "clean up" area every other day because the hairs grow back so fast.
As for my lashes, they weren't short but they weren't long either... Medium length I guess. I've noticed that my lashes on both eyes, especially the outer corners, have gotten noticeably longer. My lower lashes never got caught in the lash curler, but yesterday, I crimped the lower outer lashes on my right eye! My lashes were also never long enough to tickle my face either, but today my lower outer lashes on my left eye kept touching my face! I think it's great that my lashes are getting longer but that was annoying ... not that I'm complaining of course! =P
The downside is the mascara brush that comes with it. It hurts if you're not careful in applying the gel to the lashline. It also stings a tiny bit in the outer corner of my eye (not sure why), but I can get over that easily since this stuff works so great. It was $35 for a 10ml tube of the lash Lipocils. The 7ml tube ($30) of the Brow Lipocils (with the doe-foot applicator) has the exact same ingredients, so I think I'll get that next time.
Despite the bad applicator, I give this a 5 because I honestly did not believe that this would work for me! If you have tiny lashes, or medium ones that need a boost, you should try this!

Moisturizers -Clinique - Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
mitsubachi 9/22/2003 3:27:00 AM
This pricey, lightweight gel makes my skin feel moisturized without the heaviness of my usual moisturizer (L'Oreal Pure Zone). I've been using it for about a week, and so far so good. I usually use a dab of this on each cheek, chin, and forehead - a jar of this should last me a long time (btw, I bought the large 2.5oz jar). The only thing i don't like about this is the jar container, which is why I took off one lipstick. If it were packaged in a tube (like the moisture surge extra for eyes) it would be MUCH more convenient. Even a pump would be a better container for this product. Overall, I'd say this product is great especially since I have oily skin.

Lips -Victoria's Secret - Balmy Night Soothing Bedtime Lip Balm
mitsubachi 9/21/2003 9:47:00 PM
Prada shielding balm used to be my HG until i picked up a Balmy Nights balm from VS today! This balm is very moisturizing. It's got a creamy consistency that feels like it sinks into my lips, which is a nice break from waxy balms. I wish it had SPF though. It would also be nice if it was packaged in a screw-top container like someone else mentioned below. I worry about the pot opening in my purse and getting all of my stuff gooey. Nice minty feeling, but not too strong which is good. Makes my lips look nice and shiny, and lasts a long time too. At $5.50 this is a great buy!

Lip Gloss -Prestige - Aromatherapy Lipgloss in Rose Shine
mitsubachi 9/13/2003 12:23:00 AM
I also bought this during the 1/2 sale at Walgreens, and wish I stocked up. This is the best YLBB gloss I've ever bought! This color (rosy/mauve/plum) is very flattering, and can perk up a non-made-up face. I took off one lipstick because of the plastic/Band-Aid smell. Edited 9.23.04: rating went down from 4 lippies to 1 because i noticed that everytime i use this balm, i get an allergic reaction. something like a mosquito bite appears just under my lower lip each time. that along with the band-aid smell makes me not want to buy this again. bleh.

Misc Beauty Tools -Sephora - Professional Clutch Organizer
mitsubachi 9/9/2003 11:55:00 PM
i second everything the previous person said about this clutch! this thing is GREAT. it holds SO much more than my MAC makeup bag (which is the same size as the removeable bag in this clutch). when i went on a recent trip, i used my MAC bag, and struggled to get 1 MAC 4-pan, the 2002 Holiday eye set, lash curler, some glosses & lipsticks, a mascara, a 6-pigment stack, and some pencils in there. i think it's because the MAC bag is curved at the bottom.
this sephora clutch holds SO much more! i was able to fit my Stila 4-pan, 3 of my MAC 4-pans, and the 2002 Holiday e/s set in the bag with ease. there is also a zippered divider in the velcro-bag. on the other side of the divider, i stuffed my 6-pigment stack, some glosses, lipsticks, my lash curler, and mascara in there with lots of room left over!
the zippered mesh pocket is great for sticking your tweezers or tube m/u (paints, gel blush, etc) in. you can also fit more than one brush in the makeup brush slots. this is a great deal at $28! make sure you buy it!!!

Primer/ Corrector -Mary Kay - Oil Mattifier
mitsubachi 9/7/2003 6:24:00 PM
i bought this product thinking that it would help control my oily skin's shine. unfortunately, only 2 hours after applying this mattifier to my skin, the oil shows through. suck. the good thing is that my e/s no longer creases when i use this on my lids before applying e/s. yay. i don't think i'd buy this again though.

Mascara -Jane - Hi-Fiber Mascara
mitsubachi 6/17/2003 12:19:00 AM
I've been playing around with colored mascaras lately, and I really like Purplex. It does go on clumpy, so you need to either comb or brush through your lashes after (I used the SK spoolie). I didn't really notice too much thickening or lengthening, but the color was definitely visible after 2 coats -- keep in mind I have black lashes, so that's a plus! The only downside is that it smells like dried dog poop in a tube, which is why this gets only 3 lippies.

Liquid -MAC - Select Tint SPF 15 ] [DISCONTINUED]
mitsubachi 6/15/2003 8:35:00 PM
I got a sample of the Select Tint in a NC40. It didn't feel greasy going on, but there was shine within a few hours. While the NC40 was a perfect match for my NC35 skin, it made me break out the next day. Definitely won't be buying this.

Palettes -MAC - 4-pan
mitsubachi 6/6/2003 5:58:00 PM
I have already bought 2 of these palettes. They're great for carrying out 4 shadows (esp. wash, lid, crease, highlighter) in one case. I prefer this to the 15-pan palette because it's smaller and fits in my purse. It's also easier to organize eyeshadow combos. In addition to that, you can see through the cover to make sure you're grabbing the right e/s combo. I'm going to be buying more of these to store my shadows.
FYI Milani and Jane e/s fit in these palettes.

Eyeliner -Bobbi Brown - Long Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink
mitsubachi 6/6/2003 5:51:00 PM
This is a GREAT eyeliner product! I prefer this to my MAC Creme liner which I also reviewed. I use the MAC 311 brush to apply this gel liner to my upper lids. It's a little tricky to get the perfect thin, staight line, but if you use short feathery strokes close to the lash line, it looks close to the perfect line.
Sometimes I like to draw a thick line and smudge it out for a long-lasting smokey eye. Warning: if you need to make any corrections, make it quick. Once this gel sets (about 60 secs), you need to use a waterproof m/u remover to fix your boo-boo, which means you'll mess up the rest of your eye makeup. And if you can fix your eye makeup using an oil-based m/u remover without screwing up your makeup, I bow down to you *bow*
I also have oily lids, and this product has not smeared or disappeared on my lids yet! I'm planning to get the Violet gel liner when I get a chance!

Eyeliner -MAC - creme liner - black
mitsubachi 6/6/2003 5:44:00 PM
Since I didn't want to try a liquid liner just yet, I bought the MAC Creme liner in Black to give me a feel for it. You can use this dry or wet with the 210 or 311 brush -- I reviewed both brushes and prefer the 311. When used dry, the liner skips and doesn't look so hot. When used wet, it's becomes less opaque that I would like. In addition to this, it smudges. I prefer my Bobbi Brown gel liner to this. Won't buy this again.
