Eye Shadow -NYX - Black
mistressKC 7/15/2011 7:55:00 PM
Great matte black eye shadow - a true black. Very pigmented. This is my first nyx shadow and I'm very impressed with the quality. Finally I can seal my black liner with a true black - not a grey black or a blue black or a sparkly black but a true matte black.

Moisturizers -Alba Botanica - Hawaiian Aloe & Green Tea Oil Free Moisturizer
mistressKC 5/14/2011 6:47:00 PM
I want to be detailed in this review. First of all, as a moisturizer, I really do love how light and fresh it is. It's oil-free, it does not clog my pores. Also, I love that it's hypoallergenic, ph-balanced, paraben free, and contains 100% vegetarian ingredients and no animal testing (according to their website). I admire their stance. It would be better if it were fragrance-free, but the fragrance in the product doesn't irritate my skin and it smells pretty clean. It wears well under makeup and doesn't make my face greasy midday. That said, for $18 this is just a light basic moisturizer and it's easily interchangeable with other cheaper, more mass produced moisturizers. I like it, but it's not something that I have to have. In fact, ever since I started using cetaphil and the oil-free neutrogena for sensitive skin, I haven't used this product since. The price is the biggest deterrent. For nearly $20 I would expect better packaging (a jar can be so unsanitary since you dip your fingers in it all the time) and more product (I seem to run out of this product so quickly). If you have the money to spend and like to support products that do no animal testing and you're just looking for a basic moisturizer, you might enjoy this product. It's good, I'll probably buy it again if I had the extra cash, but it's not amazing. My skin is prone to breakouts though, and it didn't exacerbate it so that's a plus. It's a good moisturizer for the warmer months.

Blush -Bare Escentuals - Glee/ all over face color
mistressKC 12/11/2010 12:20:00 PM
Wonderful dusty rose color. This will last you a really, really long time. It's very pigmented and you have to use just a little bit to get a glow. Always tap off the excess. It's easier to build up the color than tone it down. It just wakes up my complexion. Very pretty blush color. They could fix the packaging the way that they fixed the foundation packaging. It'd be nice to be able to bring this for travel without worrying about all your blush ending up on your lid.

Fragrances -Calvin Klein - CK One
mistressKC 12/11/2010 12:02:00 PM
This has been my scent for a couple of years now, and I'll probably go back to this in the future. I love how clean and fresh it smells. More importantly, it works with my body chemistry and it doesn't give me a headache. It smells good on my boyfriend too. I can't stand over the top smells (too sweet, fruity, floral, or musky) but this one is a staple for me. This isn't part of the review but I feel like I have to say that people should really learn how to apply perfume properly. I shouldn't only be able to smell it when I'm close to you, not when you pass me by.

Fragrances -Origins - Ginger Essence Intensified
mistressKC 12/11/2010 11:57:00 AM
Mmm... I cannot stop smelling this fragrance. It smells so good and so unique. I thought I wouldn't like something with ginger because it might smell too strong, but this one is warm, clean, a little spicy, and perfect. And it smells good with my body chemistry as well. I can't stand overly sweet or floral or musky scents and I'm very particular with my perfume because I believe that you should have your signature scent (scent = memories). Most body sprays smell like alcohol. I used to wear CK one all the time but after a break up I decided to treat myself to a new fragrance. So yummy. I can't wait to wear it everyday.

Mascara -Urban Decay - Skyscraper Mascara
mistressKC 6/24/2010 8:09:00 PM
An overpriced, average quality mascara. I got this out of the smoke out kit and I didn't like it. As a lengthening mascara, it performed just like drugstore brands, worse actually. For its price? Just not worth it. A drugstore mascara gives me better results than this mascara for a cheaper price. Glad I didn't buy it on its own.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
mistressKC 2/15/2010 12:21:00 PM
I'm editting my review because I think that this is probably my favorite mascara so far :) I love it. What it gives me - a lot of length and volume. I have short asian lashes that point downward. Wearing this mascara makes such a difference. Does it clump? No. And it doesn't flake on me either unless I decide to rub my eyes. I love its staying power. This is panic-attack tested. I had this on, crying my eyes out, without it smearing. And I don't even have the wp formula. I wouldn't jump in the pool wearing this though. I just don't like how the wp formula has concrete consistency and a bug spray aroma - blech. Brush might take some getting used to but after awhile you become a pro at it. I really like how the brush is, because I don't accidentally touch my eyelids as much with other brushes. Try wearing the CG Lashblast and then going over your lashes with a lengthening formula. The effect looks really pretty. So, all in all. I love this mascara. Love it love it love it.

Blush -Revlon - Matte Powder Blush - #003 - Perfectly Peach
mistressKC 8/19/2009 12:58:00 AM
Where do I start? First of all, I've always been such a fan of matte blushes. They can give such a natural and beautiful glow to my skin without accentuating my pores or making me look too oily (when I want shimmer, I prefer to have a separate highlighter). The color is beautifully peachy with some pink undertones I think. I'm not a big fan of really pigmented blushes so I think that this one looks pretty natural. And since it's matte, you can also use it to contour (just dab some blush under your cheekbones instead of one your apples). Brightens your complexion. I love it. The packaging is adorable for me. I never use the pop out mirror, but it's cute. I like how simple and classy it looks. Better packaging that most drugstore brands. And since the top is flat, I can stack my other blushes on top of it. Price is reasonable. My only gripe maybe is that the actual blush itself is in a pretty small container so I have to run my blush brush a few times over it.

Pressed Powders -New York Color - Color Wheel Mosaic Powder Peach Glow
mistressKC 7/23/2009 11:23:00 PM
My favorite blush. It gives me such a gorgeous, soft peachy glow to my face. I'm tan with yellow undertones and I don't like heavy blushes, but this just gives me that glow. Always tap the excess powder from your brush before putting it on, and you can always put more to build up the color if you want to. I love that it's matte because I have oily skin skin and if I wanted a sheen, I would use a separate highlighter. Lovely product. Dirt cheap. It lasts pretty much forever. You should give it a try.

Mascara -Almay - One Coat Nourishing Mascara Triple Effect - Waterproof
mistressKC 6/1/2009 5:12:00 AM
I reviewed this mascara before, but I have to edit my review to be completely honest about the product. I used to love this mascara because it gives me such amazing lashes. I thought that the effect was comparable to the Dior Diorshow mascara (which is one of my favorite mascaras, along with the Sheer Cover lengthening mascara but both formulas I used were not waterproof). I feel so disappointed because I was so so ready to give it an HG rating. It gave me amazing volume and length and it had good staying power, enabling my feeble lashes to stay curled even with the summer heat. The price is pretty good, and it might seem like a bargain, but, unfortunately, that love affair was fleeting. The more I used it, the more I had problems with the mascara clumping my lashes together that I'd have to go over it with a clean mascara brush to get rid of the clumps. It's just really annoying and frustrating to finish your eye makeup and have your mascara just ruin the effect altogether. I'm going to say it's not worth the money you'd shell out for this. I don't know if it's the waterproof formula that makes it clump so badly, but it's just a disappointing formula. And it had seemed so promising because I liked its nourishing formula. It's a lot more gentle to my eyes than CG Lash Blast (plus I hate the smell of the waterproof CG Lash Blast and that it's a PAIN to take off). Speaking of smells, I liked how it doesn't smell like anything. Some waterproof mascaras smell so much like chemicals. The Diorshow mascara has a pleasant scent that's good at first but then becomes overpowering to me every time I put on my mascara. Disappointing product. Don't waste your money ladies.

Mascara -Almay - One Coat Mascara (lengthening)
mistressKC 6/1/2009 5:01:00 AM
It's a good everyday mascara, and it does what it promises - it lengthens your lashes. You won't get that false lashes look here, but you'll get beautifully defined, natural looking lashes. Despite its claims to not smudge, of course it'll smudge some by the end of the day, especially if you have oily skin. A waterproof formula will help with the smudging, but you're really not supposed to wear waterproof mascara everyday. What else can I say? I really like that it's infused with aloe and vitamin B5 since we hardly ever condition our lashes and just beat them to death with waxy products so that they're curl and make our eyes look more defined. I really like this mascara, so I'm glad that I got this on a limb. Having good technique will help you avoid clumping while putting the product on. The price is good too - a good quality mascara, and you're going to get more for your dollar in my opinion.

Liquid -L'Oreal - True Match Super-Blendable Makeup SPF 17
mistressKC 3/18/2009 7:56:00 PM
I'll admit that I actually like this product. It looks so natural when you put it on your skin, and the price is very good as well. It looks so good with primer under and a light dusting of a glowy mineral foundation over it. On its own though, it has medium coverage, so if you have really dark spots or blemishes, you'll need a separate concealer. So far, it's the only liquid foundation that doesn't make me greasy midday. Staying power could be improved. If you want a lighter coverage, try creating your own tinted moisturizer by dipping a clean swab into the container to get some product and mixing it with your moisturizer. Or add a dab of primer to that tinted moisturizer mix for a lighter finish and dust some mineral powder over it - very natural looking and the foundation won't settle into your pores. People complain about the packaging, and here's how I deal with it. I don't pour the foundation out of the bottle, it's messy and wasteful. I dip a clean cotton swab to get the amount of product that I like. Besides, you're not suppose to cake on foundation anyway - it's just not an attractive look. If you need more coverage, use a concealer or a foundation with a heavier coverage.

Powder -Pur Minerals - Pressed Powder Foundation
mistressKC 3/18/2009 7:49:00 PM
I recently purchased this product from Ulta because, even though I love my Sheer Cover, I wanted to try out other mineral foundations out there in the market. Overall, it's a pretty good product. I like that when I'm rushing I can do my makeup in seconds by using my Coastal Scents pink kabuki brush (I heard horrible reviews about the Pur Minerals brush) and buffing the foundation on my face. It evens out skin tone, but if you really want full coverage without the cakey feel, I suggest using a separate concealer. I'm quite mixed up about this product. On one hand, it's a lot cheaper than Sheer Cover and offers twice as much product. Plus, being a pressed powder, I can bring it around with me. It really does have beautiful coverage, and I really like that finish isn't a flat, matte face. On the other hand, it feels heavier on my skin, and I'll admit that sometimes I feel like I'm wearing a cakey mask. I know that a lot of people say it feels like nothing, but when I put this on, I know I put something on because I feel it on me for the rest of the day. I have this on Tan which is a teeny bit darker than my skin tone, but summer is coming and I'm bound to get tanner. The shade is very forgiving though. I'm not sure how much I like the finish. I'm going to say it's ok - sometimes it reminds me very much of just a regular face powder. Other times, it gives a slight sheen that reminds me a little bit of how my face looks like when I get a tad greasy midday. If you put on too much, it can look cakey. I recently discovered my favorite way to wear this is by putting on concealer first, buffing the Pur minerals and finishing it with a little bit of Sheer Cover (which is lighter makes for a great finishing powder over other foundation for more coverage and glow). It's a good product: I'm just not sure that I love it yet. But for the price and the amount product that you get, it's a good deal. I suggest you head to an Ulta and try it out there first and see how much you like it. update: As soon as I got used to the 'heavier' feeling of the Pur Minerals (compared to the Sheer Cover which you really hardly feel) I must admit that I love this foundation. It's fast, it's easy, it certainly does its job. It makes your skin glow and it's a 3 in 1 product so you can use it as a finishing powder as well with a light hand and a powder brush. However, even though it has twice as much product as the Sheer Cover, I've already hit pan and I bought this product around March or April (I can't remember). The Sheer Cover lasted me a year, maybe more before I had to buy new foundation. I don't know why, since it has more product than the Sheer Cover it doesn't last as long (I'm thinking it's because it's pressed, the brush ends up picking more product than if you sift the loose powder out into the lid, though I used I lot of SC because it was so sheer). Still, I love my Pur Minerals and will probably alternate between SC and this.

Eyes -MAC - Paint Pot in Bare Study
mistressKC 2/21/2009 2:32:00 PM
I like the color, even though sometimes it might look too frosty. I use it as a base to help my shadows stay, and it works wonderfully for that purpose. It creates a beautiful highlight under shadows - very pretty. On its own however, it creases horribly. The packaging's pretty nice, and you get so much product in it - it'll take me forever to finish it. Unfortunately, taking forever to finish any makeup won't be sanitary, so I'll eventually have to throw this away without using all of it. For the price? Eh... I think it's overrated. I can find cheaper cream eye shadows that do the same thing. I may or may not purchase this again. I use a brush to apply this to keep the makeup sanitary.

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara

I love this mascara. It gives me such amazing lashes, and I don't really get raccoon eyes from it. Plus, I love how it smells, and the tube looks very luxe. Has to be, for that price. if I had money, I'd buy it again.
