Lip Treatments -Nivea - A Kiss of Moisture
rated 4 of 5

I will absolutely, positively buy this again. My lips feel smoother and more moisturized from the second I put this on. I would've given it a 5 but it doesn't last very long and you need to re-apply. I love this, though.

Treatments -Biosilk - Silk Therapy

I can't believe I like this. I've never tried a serum that really worked for me but I guess this one has the right mix of ingredients. I mix a bit in with a glop of alcohol-free hair gel and it... just... works? I can't really describe what it does but my curly, coarse hair looks so much better when I use it. I haven't noticed much build up, which is truly surprising., I do think it's pretty expensive for what is basically a bottle of chemicals and silicone but my hair loves it, so I'll keep buying it.

Blush -LORAC - Powder Blush in Plum
rated 4 of 5

I really don't know how to describe a blush color but I will say that this is not a plummy purple, it's sort of a dusky dusty rose. I don't see any shimmer. I have to use a light hand or it's too dark but I am very VERY fair. It's just a pretty, neutral, every day type of blush. I only use a tiny bit but if I ever do run out, I'll repurchase.

Styling Products -Frederic Fekkai - Luscious Curls
rated 3 of 5

I can't decide whether I like this cream. It provides next to no hold so I definitely don't use it alone. I layer a cheap, alcohol free hair gel over it. It doesn't make a huge difference in curl formation. It has a somewhat sticky consistency that can be hard to get through my hair without a lot of finger combing and breaking up the curl, which isn't great. Plus, I have to use a lot of it and the tube is pretty small for the price. It smells yummy but that isn't enough to make me repurchase something. Given a choice, I'd rather use Beyond the Zone's Noodle Head cream than this. If you can get your hands on a sample of Luscious Curls, definitely try it but $20 for such a small tube is only worth it if the product works miracles.

Treatments -Aussie - 3 Minute Miracle
rated 3 of 5
misscolleen 7/21/2008 3:33:00 AM

When I first tried this, I thought I really liked it because my hair felt very soft and well-moisturized afterward. However, after trying the Aussie Moist conditioner, they both perform about the same for me. They both condition VERY well but I don't see a big difference between the 3 Minute Miracle treatment and the Moist conditioner. I'm not sure I need both. Maybe that will change in the winter when my hair is drier. So, I'll buy again. I really love the packaging but the smell doesn't appeal to me. It fades, though.

Conditioner -Aussie - Moist Conditioner
rated 4 of 5

I decided to de-snob myself and find a drugstore shampoo/conditioner that I like as much as Pureology, which is just way too expensive even if it does work wonderfully. For reference, I have curly, somewhat coarse, color-treated hair. I avoid products with drying alcohols but I don't avoid sulfates. I'd say my hair is in good shape. I really, really like Aussie's Moist shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo lathers very well and gets my hair clean without stripping it. It smells nice and the texture is creamy. I have a bit liter bottle of it and the pump is super convenient. I haven't noticed any build up, even though I do think it has 'cones in it. The conditioner has cetyl alcohol, a fatty alcohol that I've found is good for de-tangling and moisturizing curly hair. I always look for it in conditioners and it works equally well at every price point. I coat my hair, comb it out, and put it up while I do the rest of my showering and it rinses very nicely. I'll probably use both of these for a while. They do the job, the brand is easy to find just about anywhere, and it's cheap.

Cleansers -Philosophy - Purity Made Simple High Foaming daily cleanser
rated 5 of 5
misscolleen 7/21/2008 3:18:00 AM

For me, the results of this are exactly the same as the regular Purity. The only differences are that the foaming type is easier and faster to rinse off and will burn a teensy bit if I get some in my eyes. The regular kind doesn't burn at all ever. Other than that, they're pretty much the same for me. I love both.

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
rated 5 of 5
misscolleen 8/27/2007 12:41:00 AM

I use BE foundation and shadows and they make my eyelids itchy. Well they USED to make my eyelids itchy. I use Primer Potion as a first layer on my lids and it keeps the itchiness away. That alone is worth it for me but it also helps everything stay in place. You only need a thin layer and that's plenty.

Styling Products -Pantene - Curl Shaper Anti-Frizz Cream
rated 2 of 5
misscolleen 9/19/2006 12:03:00 AM

UPDATE: I should have trusted my instincts here. This dried out my hair over time. Inexpensive hair gel is less drying. I don't generally trust Pantene, I suspect that it does more bad than good. However, I really love this cream. I use one pump per section of hair, and then coat my hands with it to scrunch the ends. My hair looks fantastic! It's not 100% frizz free but it's getting there. It can be a bit crunchy as it air dries, but scrunching a little takes care of that. I seriously have bouncy ringlets, which is a miracle. I use this over a smoothing cream, like Garnier's Smoothing Milk and that works well. That combo is my HG until something better comes along.

My only beefs are that the bottle is pretty small for the price ($5.99 for 3.5 ounces at Ulta) and I go through product pretty quickly. I also have a feeling that it's drying but I use a super moisturizing shampoo and conditioner so I'm not overly concerned. I do like the packaging, though.

Shampoo -Pureology - Pureology Hydrate Shampoo
rated 5 of 5
misscolleen 9/18/2006 11:50:00 PM

Wonderful shampoo, definitely the best I've ever used. Cleans out all the styling gunk I use without stripping my hair. I'd even say it's actually about as moisturizing as a typical conditioner. I love the scent and the pretty purple color is an added bonus :) I'm even crazier about the conditioner, so if you have thick, curly hair, definitely give that a shot, too.

Conditioner -Pureology - Hydrate Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
misscolleen 9/18/2006 11:42:00 PM

I have thick, dry, coarse, curly, color treated hair. Sounds cute, huh?

This is hands down the best conditioner I have ever used, and I've tried a lot of conditioners. It's the only one I've tried that actually moisturizers my hair. Usually, moisturizing conditioners just seem to coat my hair in silicones, which does not do good things to coarse, curly hair. The essential oils in this smooth out the hair and moisturize, without making it dull or gross. I really feel like it's doing good things for my hair. I could tell the difference immediately after using it for the first time, and it just keeps getting better. My hair feels so much softer and the overall texture is shinier and less coarse.

I love it so much that I bought 64 oz. bottles of this and the shampoo off eBay. Expensive, yes, but those bottles will last for months. And it's less expensive in the long run because I'll use it consistently. I usually end up being disappointed with a conditioner halfway through the bottle and move on to something else. I'm not giving this up any time soon.

Gels/Soaps -Philosophy - Go Go Banana
rated 5 of 5
misscolleen 8/14/2006 11:20:00 PM

This smells exactly like banana Laffy Taffy, which I happen to love. However, if you're looking for a more real banana scent, you might not like this. I love banana scented anything and I had been hoping philosophy would come out with another banana body wash, I'm not fond of the banana nut bread. If you tend to like sweet banana scents over more authentic scents, this could be a winner for you. I really love philosophy's 3-in-1's but I wouldn't use it on my hair. However, they don't dry my skin out and I like that the scent doesn't linger much. I don't mind paying $16 for a scent I really like but I do think they could stand to knock a couple bucks off the price. I wish the regular sized bottles came with pumps for easier dispensing but that's minor.

Highlighters -Cargo - EyeLighter
rated 2 of 5
misscolleen 6/30/2006 4:57:00 PM

I really wish I could get behind this product but I think the cons outweigh the pros. It does a good job of brightening but the powder is chalky and hard to blend, the screw thing WILL break, and I think it's overpriced for what you get. It's okay but I really could do the same thing with an ivory eyeshadow and a good brush.

Treatments -mark - In Your Dreams Overnight Acne Treatment for Misbehaving Skin
rated 3 of 5
misscolleen 6/30/2006 4:51:00 PM

I purchased this a long time ago and found that it was too aggressive for my skin. I made the mistake of using it all over and that just made my face red and ew. But, a few days ago, I had a monster zit forming on my chin, the whole right side of my chin was hard and I could just feel the sucker brewing. So, I applied a thin layer of this over the area, morning and night, and the zit barely even surfaced. We're talking a tiny bump that didn't even need makeup. I get hormonal breakouts so I've also been using this where I'd normally break out, on my forehead, chin and jawline. So far, no zits. I wouldn't say that this is a miracle product, especially if you have acne or very sensitive skin, but it is good for spot treating and preventing breakouts.
