Eye Shadow -Guerlain - Ombre Eclat 4 Couleurs - Bronze Dore
miss_galiano 7/4/2012 12:50:00 AM
I wanted to try this eyeshadow for the longest time since I am a huge Guerlain devotee and I loved the look of the shades in the palette - partly because they harmonise so well together, partly because they would obviously suit someone with fair colouring (not that they wouldn't suit other people too) and because they have that vintage / quality look about them. Surprisingly the beige colour was the one that really struck me. It wasn't the one that jumped out at me at first glance, but was one of those products you have to try on to truly appreciate. I've never really been a fan of neutral/base shadows since they never really looked 'right' on me and seemed unnecessary. I couldn't understand why people raved on about them, however this one is completely different. I have fair skin and it immediately blended straight into my skin and covered those little bits of pink, green and purple that fair skinned people tend to be prone to. It was quite miraculous. You're probably not supposed to do this, but I actually put a bit underneath my eyes as well and it made me look so refreshed. I would almost buy another one of this palette just for the beige. Next I'll go onto the gold colour. I have owned several gold eyeshadows from Guerlain, so it wasn't surprising that this one was similar - disappointingly faint and powdery. I guess it's a very subtle, vintage gold, but its still not exactly up to par. I've noticed that Guerlain tend to make eyeshadows that are either very dark or way too faint and light. Even though gold is one of Guerlain's signature colours (and ingredients) they still seem to struggle with it so much compared to other brands. Oh well. not to worry, I have other golds from other brands that I can supplement this with. The light green is nice, once again that vintage tone, subtle. The dark green is really only good as a liner (well on me anyway). I'm one of those people who can't pull off black liner without looking like Cruella De Ville, so this dark, slightly metallic green suits me a lot better. I have green/brown eyes and this palette overall looks great as it brings out the green in my eyes and also suits my dark hair and fair skin. I nearly gave it only a 4 overall (just because I thought the gold was too faint) but decided that was too harsh so gave it 5 anyway since everything else is satisfactory in my opninion. Thanks for reading :)

Self Tanners -Avene - Mositurizing self-tanning lotion (for sensitive skin)
miss_galiano 9/30/2011 10:07:00 PM
Ok so this is the first time I have applied this product, only about 1 1/2 hours ago. The first things I noticed were that it doesn't have a horrible strong smell that many brands have, and it is very moisturising and gentle - even soothing. My skin sometimes gets a bit dry and itchy from showering in the water here, as it was today, but after applying this my skin actually calmed down and feels great. I also applied it to my face and it gave me an instant, hydrated, glowy appearance. Despite being so hydrating it was in no way oily or greasy and it absorbed into my skin quickly and easily. My skin feels comfortable and soothed all over now with a soft fragrance which I would describe as similar to a french perfume - Guerlain perhaps - one of the powdery, spicy scents, but not too heavy at all. Now for the colour part. I had been warned that I may need to apply this more than once to get a strong colour, however this is the lightest of any tan I have ever used, including gradual tanning moisturisers. I was kind of thinking 'is that it' as in I have very pale skin yet barely anything has shown up at all. It might have taken a slight edge of the dayglow effect off my skin, but that's all, I can barely see anything. On the plus side it hasn't streaked or stuck to patches of dry skin, maybe because it is so hydrating! I will have to reapply several more times to get a better idea of what this product is like, but so far it's pretty good and I think I would buy it again, even if just for the secondary benefits of this product ie hydration, soothing feel, fragrance. It is a bit more money than the run of the mill supermarket product, but if I can get some decent colour out of this then I think it will definitely be worthwhile. UPDATE: After a few more hours the colour became a lot deeper. I had assumed from the packaging that the colour after 1 hour was the final result but it's definitely not. It turned out great except for a couple of spots where I didn't rub it in properly. My friends said they liked the look of it and that it looked a lot more natural and even than other brands. They wanted to try it too

Fragrances -Tommy Hilfiger - Dreaming
miss_galiano 9/22/2010 3:46:00 AM
Why does everyone keep saying this smells like peaches? Apparently it does contain a peach note, but there are also other notes, and peach definitely isn't what first comes to mind when I smell this fragrance. Personally I was thinking more along the lines of apple -even if I'm wrong there. The smell gets me craving apple spice muffins. Although it is fruity, it is more of a soft, rich, well rounded fruity smell, as opposed to a sharp summer fruity scent. To me this is very feminine in an innocent and wholesome type of way. Some might say it would suit younger women. I think it is more of a daytime fragrance that would be nice to wear on a date, out shopping, or even just relaxing at home.

Crème -L'Oreal - Matte Morphose
miss_galiano 7/6/2010 10:31:00 PM
For me this was, if not the best the foundation I've ever tried then definitely up there with the best, and better than any other matte or mouse makeup I've ever tried. As soon as I apply it my skin looks velvety and even, my pores are completely diffused and it covers the odd blemish and redness around my nose in a natural gorgeous way. My best friend and sister both think it looks really nice on as well. It doesn't keep my face matte all day unfortunately - only around 4 hours, so I have to carry powder with me when I'm out and about. I think the colours are also fairly natural and there is something for most people. Even though they look quite dark in the pot they are not so dark on. The size is quite small - only 20ml. I'm yet to see how long a jar will last me, although I don't seem to need too much per application. I'm excited to see how this will look using primer underneath and wether it will last even longer that way

Liquid -Rimmel - Stay Matte Foundation
miss_galiano 2/27/2010 10:24:00 PM
How can this foundation 'stay matte' when it doesn't even go on matte to start off with? As soon as I applied this my skin looked oily and it didn't look matte until I covered it with Stay Matte Pressed Powder. It wasn't the best looking finish because after applying enough powder to blot out the oiliness it looked a little on the cakey side and kind of showed up my pores a bit. I find Rimmel's Cool Matte Mousse Foundation leaves a much nicer finish and smells better too. So to sum it all up, this foundation really wasn't matte at all, smelt bad, and the colour I used (100 Ivory) wasn't that light and would surely be too dark for a lot of people with fair skin.

Lipstick -Guerlain - 515 Dazzling Butterfly - Holiday 2008
miss_galiano 2/3/2009 12:42:00 AM
The weird thing about this colour is that on me it looked bad and overly strong in the department store lighting, but once I got home in the natural light it looked good. I have very pale skin with a pink/blue undertone. No yellow whatsoever

Highlighters -Guerlain - Meteorites Giant Butterfly Pearls - W 2008
miss_galiano 2/3/2009 12:40:00 AM
I like this very much. It's about time Guerlain made large sized meteorites pearls. I know they did once, years ago, with a Shalimar fragrance, but I think this is better. It's funny that the Christmas before it was tiny tiny pearls and this time it's big ones. Beautiful big silver container. I don't mind that it's cardboard. I really prefer this on my body to my face though. On my face I prefer Mythic or the Forever Gold

Misc Beauty Tools -LUSH - LUSH - Whole Store
miss_galiano 2/1/2009 10:51:00 PM
Sometimes I don't know whether to love or hate this shop. I'll Start with the bad stuff: From the outside of the one near me you can see blackboard style signs below the windows with quotes from magazine and newspaper reviews such as 'this is about as natural as it gets' well let me tell you it isn't. Lush really isn't that natural at all and isn't very gentle for people with sensitive skin and the majority of the ingredients they use aren't even organic. They claim to use 'safe synthetics' but that really is a matter of opinion if you could even call it that. There are 3 main bad ingredients in Lush products: Sodium Laureth Sulphate, Methylparaben and Propylparaben. All 3 of these are carcinogenic. There are also a lot of colours which I suspect to be artificial, but I doubt they do any harm. Some of the products also contain a lot of alcohol which is drying and harsh and can cause problems when you go in the sun. There are much gentler and more natural foaming agents than SLS and even in some brands which do not claim to be natural, SLS is not the first ingredient as it is in many Lush products such as the Shower Jellies and liquid and solid shampoo they sell. Not only is this unsafe but it is also drying and harsh on the skin and hair. My next complain is the price of the products. It has gone up by around %100 in the last 6 years, if my calculations are correct. The shop appears to be relaxed and casual but it cost as much as high end stuff - especially as many of the products don't last long (Biofresh Masks, Massage Bars) and many are single use items such as the Bath Ballistics and Bath Melts. The last thing I don't like about it is that they are always blowing their own horn saying how ethical and natural and original and great they are when there are so many other ethical, organic companies who really are truly natural and organic, unlike Lush. Now to the good: They don't test on animals - so they say. They're lying when they say they're natural so who knows if this is true. The shop is unlike any other. They use less packaging. Products are fun to use. Most products smell good. You can choose your quantity of certain products instead of being stuck with the standard amounts you get at other stores, although they have changed the rules so that 100g is now the smallest. They say that's to keep the products moving and keep them fresh except I'm sure it's to make more money. You can get samples and each sample comes with a 10% off coupon should you come back to buy the product within 2 months. They do gift boxes and each gift box comes with a 10% off coupon to use next time you shop there. Staff are helpful but not pushy. The only thing is that Lush seems to have lost some of it's magic over the years. Has anyone else felt this?

Bath Treatments -LUSH - Butterball Bath Bomb
miss_galiano 2/1/2009 10:17:00 PM
These smell lovely but the water has to be hot enough to dissolve the little bits of cocoa butter, otherwise you have these lumps of cocoa butter floating around. May not appeal to people who are paranoid about their bath tub getting greasy, and be careful not to slip

Gels/Soaps -LUSH - Porridge Soap
miss_galiano 2/1/2009 10:12:00 PM
I love this soap. Nobody seems to know what the 'seeds' in this soap are. It says in the ingredients that they're spearhead oats - so basically oats that haven't been hulled or rolled. I love that it scrubs you cause it gets my circulation going. In fact I can barely tolerate a plain soap with no bits in it these days. The smell is divine too and it's a soft kind of soap which means it doesn't last long but that doesn't matter to me because it is so much gentler on skin

Gels/Soaps -LUSH - Sexy Peel Soap

This seemed to be just an ordinary soap to me. Scent is pleasant but not amazing. Looks pleasant but not amazing. It might sound weird but I really need my soap to entertain me

Cleansers -LUSH - Aqua Marina Cleansing Roll
miss_galiano 2/1/2009 9:38:00 PM
I honestly don't know what to make of this. It took me around 6 years of using Lush products before I got around to trying this one. I imagined it to be softer or more of a soft cream, but it almost feels like some sort of clay and it feels smooth but as if it has a million small grains in it, like smooth but not a slippery smooth. I don't know if I like it or not and the seaweed is a bit pointless.

Scrubs -LUSH - Ocean Salt
miss_galiano 2/1/2009 9:33:00 PM
I love this. It made me crave a margarita even though I hardly ever drink. It's the lime distilled in vodka and all the sea salt. So good. It's quite strong on the face unless you have really oily and resilient skin. I mainly use it to scrub my back
