Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - DUO eyelash adhesive

Yes, this is a good glue, but c'mon Duo--narrow the tip of the larger size!!!! The smell also is strange, but quickly dissipates. Very good product.

Styling Products -TRESemme - Fresh Start Dry Shampoo for Oily/Straight to Normal Hair
mimo 2/16/2012 10:08:00 AM
Had to give this a 5, to counteract all the negative reviews-- I've used Bumble in the past, and that was truly a mess, blackens your hands, leaves grey residue, and an unholy price to boot. This is all it's cracked up to be: left my hair bouncy, shiny, little to no residue, and price is wonderful. Perhaps people were using way too much and spraying too closely? I wash my hair every 4th day, convinced that over cleansing strips your hair of natural oil (haven't you all experienced the time you were sick and couldn't wash your hair for days...then suddenly, the oil production stabilized and your hair wasn't gross anymore??) Hair is DEAD, so if you washed a fabric everyday, how long till it disintegrated? Consequently, I don't believe in overstyling, brushing, etc.(And I have NO grey hair!) I actually can't wait till the 3rd or 4th day now to use this--plus I hate cheap scents, and this has a very light, quickly dissipating citrus smell. Kudos to Tresemme for stating that women spend WAY too much on horribly overpriced products. BTW, I have NO affiliation with them, just want to set the record straight.

Misc Beauty Tools -Shu Uemura - New Improved Eyelash Curler
mimo 7/13/2010 7:21:00 PM
I've used this curler for some time, and decided to replace the pads. HOW ridiculous and NASTY that they don't make them--to say nothing of unecological!!!! I bought a Shisedo, which IS refillable, and it works great, is lighter, and easier to use. Boycott Shu until they make refills--it's nonsense.

Mascara -Shiseido - The Makeup Mascara Base [DISCONTINUED]
mimo 7/13/2010 7:18:00 PM
This stuff is great--I was very sceptical, esp. with the price, but the reviews were intriguing. It WORKS!!! Any mascara stays on, lashes are thicker, longer, no smudging, terrific. Just wish it weren't so expensive.

Lost ALL my makeup going to Paris (sob) and was not near any Sephora, so had to go to the local drugstore. This product is bad, a waste of money. Compared to Bare Escentuals, this has no coverage, and the brush was rough. Stick to the real stuff.

Conditioner -Aveda - Pure Abundance Volumizing Clay Conditioner

I generally like Aveda products for their purity; the SA was so helpful and recommended this for volume. It smells terrible, like subway urine. I really wanted to try it, but simply could NOT get past the smell. Using Shampure now, and it's great--will stick to my old standby Aquage Healing Conditioner: the smell is not terrific, much more commercial, but it works very well.

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'n' Soft waterproof mascara (vitamin E)

I am a devotee of Max Factor Lash Perfection, and disconsolate that it's not sold in the US anymore. Based on the reviews, I tried this--it's terrible. The brush is way too big, smudges everywhere, and raccoon eyes appear within hours. It actually made my eyelashes STRAIGHT right after I had curled them, something MF never did. I loved the dark blue color, and it never smudged--what to do now????

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Lansinoh Lanolin
mimo 1/8/2010 9:49:00 AM
This is HANDS DOWN, the BEST lip product out there!!!! Tracked it down at BABIES R US ( the ONLY benefit of suburbia is access to huge landscape-- blighting megastores) here in Manhattan (drugstores here carry only the basics, for some reason). After TWO nights of this, my lips are buttery soft, hydrated, like a baby's. Have always thought those obsessives who slather on mineral based chapsticks were actually increasing their dryness--but the 'organic', more costly balms never did anything either....this is perfection! I wear a drying fuschia lipcolor, so reapplying balm during the day is out, anyway. I want to eat this, to bathe in it. It becomes creamy on contact, I use it on my neck and decolletage, and of course hands. It would be great if they produced a slightly thinner formula for the rest of the body. I usually don't bother to review, but HAD to take the time to do this--fantastic find!!!! I would buy stock in their company!

Treatments (Eye) -Awake - Skin Renovation Eye
mimo 5/5/2009 8:48:00 PM
Based on the comments here, I bought the eye treatment and the Firm Advantage cream. The sample for the eye cream seemed very dry and hard to dissolve, but I thought perhaps it was an old sample. Well after about 3 mo. of using this, the eye cream actually cracked in half in the jar, and now is impossible to use, it's so dried out. When I called the saleswoman at Bergdorf's she told me that she had just attended a seminar for another brand, and that these creams only last about 3 mo! NEWS to me, esp.since you are supposed to use '2 rice kernel dabs'--what a rip-off. I've used Creme de la Mer for years with no similar instability. The salesperson AND the company refused to stand behind their product, so I'm on to Natura Bisse, which I picked up in Barcelona. The product seemed to work fairly well, but what's the use if 1/2 the jar is unuseable??

My husband encouraged me to splurge on this about 5 yr. ago and I have to say, it works. Went off it for a couple of months and noticed the difference, not as luminous. My skin is very good for my age (Asian late 50's but look '10-15 yrs. younger' according to some), usually a bit oily, and this does not exacerbate that. The packaging though is so dated--I like the open jar format with spatula so you can get out every bit, but the graphics are so old ladyish, the pink is that sickening bandaid pink! All white would be so much better! (I'm a designer.) Tried the eye cream, 2 jars, and it was good, but just started Shiseido's Future Solution and it seems to be better-- maybe it's just the titanium dioxide they sneaked in to 'whiten' the undereye area. HATE the smell of CDLM hand cream--such an awful plastic-y smell. Wanted something for the delicate decolletage area, and am using Weleda Skin Food till I find the perfect thing.

Styling Products -KMS California - AMP Volume Alcohol Free Styling Foam

Can't believe they changed this formulation!!! I LOVE the pear scent, so natural and un-synthetic. The replacement, ADD VOLUME, smells horrible and cloying. Perhaps it does the same, but I can't get past the smell, it smells like all the other cheap stuff out there. Wish manufacturers would realize that we are layering many products (duh) and subtle is the best way to go. This product worked great, no flaky buildup or weight, just good body.

Moisturizers -Weleda - Skin Food

Tried this after reading the reviews--it's fabulous! I use creme de la mer and was looking for something cheaper to use on decolletage, and this product is pure, great quality, no silicones, and cheap! Have been using Borghese Splendide Mani for years which is 3 times the price, and this is just as good, even less greasy. Great on elbows and feet too, and I think the packaging is retro and cool. Every product doesn't need to look commercial. Fabulous natural scent too!

Got a sample of this from my new facialist--I use creme de la Mer at night and thought I needed something for day. Was surprised to see the dreaded dimethicone listed way in front of the 'good' ingredients, as this brand seems to be ubiquitous. That, coupled with the strange scent, and the fact that it just seems to sit on top of the skin, will not make me purchase.
