Makeup Brushes -Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman - Brush Collection - Eyes Starter Set
rated 5 of 5

When I saw this is my local boots I was delighted, I have been drooling over them on the Real Techniques website for a long time! The brushes are all made of synthetic taklon bristles, making them perfect for either powder or cream products. The set contains a carry case to store the brushes, which doubles as a stand for the brushes, very handy to see the brushes, and sits neatly on any make up table/vanity etc. The shadow base brush is my favourite of the set. It has a similar shape to mac's 217, so is excellent to blend or apply eyeshadow, or buff in concealer. The deluxe crease is a bit over sized for its intended purpose, however is excellent to apply a highlighter to the brow bone, or to blend out any harsh eye shadow edges. The accent brush is a lovely little detailer brush, excellent for applying colour under the lower lash line. The pixel point eyeliner brush I find is a bit thick to use as an eyeliner brush, specifically with gel or cream eyeliners, however because the bristles are quite firm it can be used to smudge out eyeliner. The brow brush is just that, a firm bristled brush that does exactly what it says on the tin! Overall I am delighted with this set! It cost me €30, which is an excellent price for such great quality brushes, but a poor conversion from the UK sterling price!

Moisturizers -La Roche Posay - Nutritic
rated 5 of 5
mhxx 12/7/2011 9:06:00 PM

This is the only moisturiser that will keep my horribly dry skin from flaking off, and going patchy, tight and scaly. I use the 2.5% one in the morning, about half an hour before I apply any make up so it has time to sink in, then the 5% one at night time, after using the LRP Physiological Cleansing Milk to remove my make up, for a deeper moisturisation. Since I started doing this my skin has never felt or looked better. It is smoother, softer to the touch, more radiant and my make up sits and looks a lot better on it. On average I pay about €15 for 40ml. This is a little bit pricey, however often Boots or my local pharmacy does great 3 for 2 or half price offers, which is great for stocking up!

Palettes -Urban Decay - 15 year anniversary palette
rated 5 of 5

I had my make up done at a UD counter last week, and they did this beautiful look using tainted, junkshow, omen and blackout from this palette. I fell in love with it, and bought it straight away. The colours are beautiful. I am a huge fan especially of junkshow, a lovely hot fuchsia pink colour, and vanilla, a very pale gold/vanilla colour. The quality of the shadows is excellent, brilliant pigment, they stay true to colour when applied, and last, even without a primer, for hours! The packaging of this is unreal too. Absolutely beautiful. When I bought it it was 20% off too, bargain!! Love love love it!!!!

Primer/ Corrector -Urban Decay - All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
rated 5 of 5

Love love love this product. I first got a sample version in the urban bride set, and used it so much it was gone in a few weeks (it was only 15ml though) I bought a full size version and have been using it everyday, religiously. My skin has been super dry lately, so I have quit using face powders to set my foundation, and started using this instead. It makes my make up last hours, and gives it a flawless finish. If I found out they were discontinuing this tomorrow I would go out and buy as many as I could afford!! *touch wood this never happens*

Stick -Bobbi Brown - Foundation Stick
rated 5 of 5

I love this foundation. I ordered it online, and took a guess on my shade. I bought it to use as my 'fake tan foundation', so instead of the alabaster or porcelain shade I would usually opt for, I went for sand. It is the perfect match for my (fake tanned!) face, its blends excellently and offers a good coverage with a flawless finish. I swipe it where I need that bit more coverage on my face, and blend it with a foundation brush, however it can also be applied with a damp sponge for lighter coverage. It is so creamy, it doesn't accentuate any dry spots on my face, and certainly doesn't cause any further drying of my skin. This foundation is perfect for people like me with quite dry skin, but as it is NOT oil free, it is not suitable for people with oily skin.

Liquid -Rimmel - Recover illuminating anti-fatigue foundation [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
mhxx 5/27/2011 5:07:00 PM

This is my morning after the night before foundation, something to give my tired skin a boost after a long night out. Its super easy to apply, just use a foundation brush or even your fingers, a light dusting of a true to skin colour powder, as opposed to a translucent one, tones down the shimmer enough to make it more wearable, while still letting it glow! And it is super cheap, always a bonus!

Blush -NARS - Desire
rated 5 of 5
mhxx 5/19/2011 5:49:00 PM

What can I say about this that hasn't been said already? The colour is very wearable by almost every skin tone, just apply it with a very light hand if you're quite pale like me. Its super blendable, with a nice finish which can be adjusted to create different looks ie. subtle flush for the day, more intense and dramatic for night, etc.. The quality is great also. At €29 it is a bit pricey, but it really is a once off purchase, one pan really does last forever (or at least until it expires!)

Primer/ Corrector -MAC - Prep + Prime Face Protect SPF 50
rated 2 of 5
mhxx 5/16/2011 2:39:00 PM

I'm not mad about this primer. It was good for the first little while, then it went downhill. Though I love that it is spf 50, which I need to use every day because I am so super pale, the texture is awful. Mine separated and went watery after about a month (despite being shaken before use and capped firmly after use, and being stored out of direct sunlight). Did anyone else have this problem? I didn't like the packaging either, it was more lid than anything.

Polishes -Barry M - Instant Nail Effects
rated 4 of 5
mhxx 4/29/2011 3:15:00 PM

I was considering buying a bottle of OPI's black shatter, but seeing as I'm not a huge nail polish fan I was a bit reluctant to pay the price they were asking, but the funky effect and ease of the nail polish was just too appealing, then, just before I bought it, I spotted instant effects by barry m, a perfect dupe at a reasonable price! I love this nail varnish, its quirky and fun. I work in a shop, and all day yesterday when I was on tills, I had customers almost grabbing my hands saying how cool my nail varnish was!

Primer/ Corrector -Smashbox - Photo Finish Primer
rated 4 of 5
mhxx 4/28/2011 5:20:00 PM

I love this primer, but I almost have to budget to buy it. This is my twice yearly treat, other than that I stick to mac's prep & prime spf 50, not as expensive, and almost as good!

Lipstick -MAC - Viva Glam Gaga
rated 5 of 5
mhxx 4/28/2011 5:14:00 PM

I love love love this lipstick! I have been using it almost everyday since it was released, as it compliments my pale complexion perfectly. I was praying it would become a permanent fixture in the mac collection, but it didn't. Devastated. I used the last scape of my third tube today, so I'm going in tomorrow to replace it with something similar, maybe mac's lovelorn.. Nothing will compare to this though :(

Crème -MAC - Studio Tech
rated 4 of 5
mhxx 4/28/2011 5:08:00 PM

I bought this foundation as a compact alternative of my usual foundation, something to just throw in my bag if I am travelling or going away for the weekend etc. I have to say, at first I was a little disappointed, but after a couple of uses and application adjustments it grew on me. If you buy this, do not use the sponge provided. Not only does it eat the foundation, it doesn't give a good finish. Use a stippling brush for the best finish, and top with a light dusting with a translucent powder.

Lipstick -MAC - Cremesheen Creme Cup

I love this lipstick! It has a lovely nourishing formula which doesn't dry out my lips at all, and the coral based pink colour is perfect for my pale skin!
