Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara Waterproof
rated 2 of 5

I don't understand why I keep reading about this mascara being the number 1 choice of make-up artists. It smudges, it's clumpy, and the wand is short with a very simple and short brush. The only good thing about it is that it's cheap.

Skincare - Face -Dr. Denese - Exfoliating Facial Firming Pads
rated 5 of 5
mgoatandv 3/9/2006 1:57:00 PM

I started using these pads because I had large pores and redness around my nose and chin (I have oily/combo skin). I thought I had sensitive skin because every time I tried a new product my skin would get red. I took a chance on these pads, especially considering how strong they're supposed to be. But they really have helped my skin look brighter and smoother. The redness is gone! It also evened out my skin tone because for a while it looked like my chin was lighter (probably from years of sun exposure) than the rest of my face, but now my whole face looks like it's the same color. I've been using the pads for almost a year - I just wipe once or twice around my face and then use the rest on my neck, decollete, and the back of my hands. (The container says not to use it on your neck, but when I've seen Dr. Denese on TV she doesn't discourage callers from doing that when they say they use it on their neck and hands.) Until recently it's been the only Dr. Denese product I've used. I used to use Neutrogena's Healthy Skin with spf during the day, but now I use her Daily Defense with spf30. I've been using it for 2 weeks and I like it so far. But these pads are definitely worth a try. True it's not cheap, but you can still use it on other areas besides your face - I also make sure I use spf everyday on those areas too.

Concealers -Jane Iredale - Circle Delete
rated 4 of 5

I like this product a lot, but then again, I am a huge JI fan. I use #3 because I am Filipino with a tan complexion. Luckily I don't have a big problem with dark circles but it helps to have it on mornings after sleepless nights. The esthetician I bought it from showed me how to use the darker shade for contouring on my cheeks and adding to my eyelids like eye shadow. I just JI products! For me, it's worth the price . . . I just use a little concealer, absence, and pressed powder almost everyday and it has lasted me almost one year.

Other -Boscia - Fresh Blotting Linens
rated 4 of 5
mgoatandv 9/8/2005 10:49:00 PM

My skin is on the oily side during the summer, and these blotting sheets have been wonderful for me. I admit that I do sometimes have to use 2 sheets on really oily days but I also use both sides of the sheets . . . it doesn't bother me to have to use more than one because I'm so glad to have this stuff to blot my face! I used to use toilet paper in restrooms to soak up the oil but toilet paper also takes off makeup - these sheets don't. These blotting sheets are the best, and I'll continue to buy them. I have only used the green tea ones, but I look forward to trying the others too!

Moisturizers -Neutrogena - Healthy Skin Face Lotion with SPF 15
rated 4 of 5
mgoatandv 5/15/2005 9:39:00 AM

I like this product for its SPF and AHA. I tried it years ago in my twenties and found that it made my skin tingle so I thought it was irritating my skin. Now I'm 36 and after years of going through MANY skin care products I found out that it was probably the AHA that causing the tingling. Supposedly AHAs are good for exfoliating your skin - your skin needs this to renew itself to reveal newer, softer skin (this info is based on my own research). I started using glycolic acid products on my face at night and noticed the benefits -redness disappeared, more even skin tone. I wanted to find a daytime moisturizer that had both SPF and AHA without costing an arm and a leg - believe it or not Healthy Skin is fairly reasonable than some of the other dermatologist brand and department store stuff. My skin does look brighter and feels even softer. My face tends to be oily in certain areas especially in humid weather so I have to be careful to only use a small amount. I use it on my face, neck, decollete, and even on my hands. I only use a little - a little goes a long way. Don't be intimidated by the stinging - ease into it like the direction says. It's supposed to sting a little. Just use a little bit at a time, especially if your skin tends to be on the oily side. Healthy Skin is definitely worth the try.

Lipstick -Neutrogena - Lip Boost Intense Moisture Lipstick
rated 5 of 5
mgoatandv 4/26/2005 6:01:00 PM

One of the best lipsticks for the price. This keeps my lips moisturized and soft. I love nutmeg and rose suede. These colors are creamy, subtle and not too bright. The SPF is an added bonus!

Styling Products -Redken - Align 12
rated 4 of 5
mgoatandv 4/13/2005 2:25:00 PM

This product provides great frizz control if you have thick wavy hair like mine. I have actually been using this to tame frizzies when I air-dry my hair. I bought it to straighten my hair, but one day I was in a hurry, I applied it on my damp hair and let air-dry, it allowed my hair to curl up in the humidity but minimized a lot of the frizz. So that's what I've been using it for now. It's also good for styling your hair straight too.

Skincare - Face -DDF - Glycolic Daily Cleansing Pads 10 percent
rated 5 of 5
mgoatandv 4/7/2005 11:36:00 PM

I realize now why exfoliation is good for your skin - these glycolic pads have helped to even out my skin tone, minimize my pores, and more importantly, get rid of the sensitive areas of my face. I've heard a lot lately about how glycolic acid can help get rid of layers of old surface skin cells and I think that's how my sensitive areas disappeared. They don't look red or inflamed anymore - those areas (between my eyes, tip of my nose and my chin)are softer and smoother. I was a little worried at first about this product containing alcohol, but I tried it anyway since my face is combination, but more on the oily side in warm weather. It turns out that my face looks brighter and smoother. I use it at night after cleansing, then follow it with serums and a moisturizer. Great stuff!

Moisturizers -Kiehls - Lycopene Facial Moisturizing Lotion [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
mgoatandv 4/7/2005 11:20:00 PM

I was disappointed because this left my sensitive/comb. skin red and irritated. Luckily it was given to me as a sample. I recommend you try the sample size first especially if you have sensitive skin.

Styling Products -John Frieda - Frizz-Ease - Dream Curls- Curl Perfecter
rated 2 of 5
mgoatandv 4/7/2005 11:15:00 PM

I think this works ok in humid weather, but it doesn't hold the waves in my hair for very long. It leaves my hair a little crunchy too, but I suppose that's what's trying to hold the waves in my hair. It's hard for me to find something that will boost the waviness in my hair and also keep my hair from frizzing in one product.

Toners -Aveda - Toning Mist
rated 4 of 5
mgoatandv 4/7/2005 11:03:00 PM

I love to spritz this toner on my face when the weather is warm. It's very cool and refreshing on my skin and the scent is light and refreshing also. It doesn't irritate my skin at all even though I have sensitive/comb. skin.

Gels/Soaps -Aveda - Energizing Body Wash
rated 4 of 5
mgoatandv 4/7/2005 10:58:00 PM

I really love the refreshing scent of this body wash. It's a great pick-me-up in the shower. I got it as a present from my sister. It costs a little more than what I would normally spend on body wash or soap, but I would buy it again, because it's Aveda and they make quality products.

Scrubs -Aveeno - Skin Brightening Daily Scrub
rated 2 of 5
mgoatandv 4/6/2005 6:15:00 PM

I was really disappointed with this product. I heard a lot of good things about it, but it really irritated my skin. I have sensitive/comb. skin. After one try it felt like it was burning my face. Since I have so much of it left I've used it as a body scrub. Instead I've been using Rachel Perry's Peach and Papaya facial scrub. It's gentle and doesn't irritate my skin at all.

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara
rated 2 of 5
mgoatandv 4/6/2005 6:08:00 PM

It surprises me that "make-artists to the stars" supposedly use this masacara. It's clumpy, it doesn't lengthen my lashes, and it smudges! Even for the price it's not worth the disappointment for me to use!
