Moisturizers -Unlisted Brand - Avocado Oil
rated 4 of 5
mg84 3/4/2012 3:02:00 AM

I recently purchased a small bottle of avocado oil because I had been thinking about using it as a body moisturizer after showering. But, one of the first things that I actually did was try it out on my lips. My lips had been feeling very dry / chapped recently, and my usual lip balm didn't seem to be helping very much. I applied a bit of the avocado oil to my lips, and then applied my regular lip balm on top. After doing this for a few days, I was pleasantly surprised because I could see and feel a real difference. The oil seems to absorb well, and it feels like it's repairing the dry skin. I've also tried using the oil on my legs, since the skin there tends to get quite dry / flaky for me at times. I think it's doing a good job for that purpose as well, and the skin stays well-moisturized for a long time. Based on my experience so far, I would like to keep using this oil.

Lips -Dr. Bronner's - Magic All-One! Organic Lip Balm - Lemon Lime
rated 4 of 5
mg84 4/22/2011 8:04:00 PM

This is my first time trying a product from the Dr. Bronner's company. So far, I've been using this lip balm for a couple of days, and my experience with it has been pretty good. Before opening up the balm for the first time, I could already smell a little bit of the lime scent. Once opened, the citrus fragrance is definitely present, but not too overwhelming. I don't think I've tried a lemon or lime lip balm before, but in general I tend to enjoy these scents a lot. I would say that the thing I like the most is the way this lip balm feels while applying it to the lips. It is very smooth and comfortable when it goes on, it feels nourishing. I find that this balm leaves behind a mild sour or tangy taste on the lips at first, but it's not really unpleasant. The ingredients are simple and organic, which is also very nice. I hope to keep enjoying this lip balm, and I'll be sure to update if there are changes.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - NOW Foods Cocoa Butter (100% Pure)
rated 5 of 5
mg84 4/19/2011 3:50:00 PM

I've been using this cocoa butter for a couple of weeks, and so far I think I'm really enjoying it. I've heard good things about using cocoa butter on the skin, but I had never actually purchased cocoa butter until now, so this is my first real experience with it. This particular cocoa butter is in its natural form, and has not been mixed with any other ingredients. It says on the label that it is free of fillers, preservatives, additives, and artificial colors. The consistency is very solid, and it can be a little difficult to take out the amount that is needed / desired. Aside from this, once it's applied on the skin, it melts nicely, and a little bit of it seems to go a long way. So far, I've been using this mainly on the backs of my hands, and I found that they felt softer after a few uses. The cocoa butter also has a sweet and chocolatey scent that is pleasant. To make it a little easier to use and apply to the skin, a portion of the cocoa butter can be scraped out, melted, and poured into an old lip balm tube that twists up. Once it's solid again, you can then smooth it onto any spots you'd like. Based on my experience with this product so far, I think I would like to repurchase this.

Deodorants -Unlisted Brand - Bubble and Bee Organic Deodorants
rated 2 of 5
mg84 4/13/2011 10:07:00 PM

I tried a Bubble & Bee deodorant for the first time just today (I chose the Spearmint & Tea Tree / Baking soda stick). I found out about this company while searching for natural deodorants on the internet, and I thought it was nice that they try to make products as natural as possible. I've also found that if you email the company with a question, they are pretty helpful and glad to provide you with information or advice. Unfortunately, I applied this deodorant around 6 hours ago, and I would say that after about 3 or 4 hours, I didn't feel very fresh. It doesn't leave me with a lot of odor, but I don't think this is something that I could put on with confidence before going out of the house. I tested this out today while at home, and I was wearing light / breathable clothing. I've also gone a long time without using general antiperspirants (as the company recommends to try doing). Aside from this, I can say that I haven't experienced any irritation yet, and the product is fairly easy to use as well. This scent is pretty mild and not unpleasant. In a way I had a feeling that this deodorant might not be effective for me. I tried to make my own deodorant a little while ago, using similar ingredients to the Pit Putty, but it wasn't very effective for me either. I still look forward to maybe trying out some of the other products that Bubble & Bee makes at some point. I might try to test this out for a little while longer and I'll be sure to update if there are changes.

Skincare - Body -Unlisted Brand - Parissa Quick and Easy Wax Strips Face - Bikini
rated 4 of 5
mg84 2/10/2011 3:37:00 PM

I purchased these wax strips a few months ago, and this was my first time trying a product from the Parissa brand. I bought this set because I thought it might be a good choice for removing some of the little hairs on my upper lip. The first time that i used a strip, I think I rushed into the process because I was so curious about trying it out for the first time. I cut one of the strips in half and used it that way. The wax removed a fair amount of hair, but I was left with a lot of residue that didn't start to go away until a few days later. I had applied the azulene oil as well as olive oil, but nothing seemed to help. My skin was noticeably flaky / dry for a few days on that area. I was a bit discouraged after that first experience, but I decided to try the strips again after some time had passed. The next time, I made sure to cut the strips into very small pieces, and this made them a lot easier to use and control. I didn't experience the same problems that i had the first time that I tried. I've been using them this way for a few months so far, and I like them quite a bit. I'm still not very experienced with waxing, but I give this product a good rating. I would like to try out some of the other Parissa products as well.

Fragrances -Lolita Lempicka - Lolita Lempicka
rated 3 of 5
mg84 11/17/2010 12:51:00 AM

The first time that I tested this perfume I was at a pharmacy and I thought that it was a pretty interesting scent. Like some others have described it, I found it to be a sweet and strong fragrance. It reminded me a bit of an almond body butter that I had from The Body Shop (a scent that i really liked). I definitely noticed the top note of anise when i first sprayed it, which I thought was cool. I didn't leave with the idea that I definitely wanted to buy this perfume, but I decided to keep it in the back of my mind. A few weeks later, i found out that this was being sold at another store for a pretty good price, and it came with a lotion as well. I thought i would go for it and take a chance. I finally tried this out today for a few hours; I applied a bit of it on the back of my neck. At first, it was pretty sweet (i'm not very good at describing fragrances), but then later on as I would catch a whiff of the scent on my skin, i didn't really love the effect : [. For some reason, it reminded me more of a masculine fragrance. I didn't get this impression when I first tested it out at the pharmacy, but this is what I noticed today on my skin after a while. I am still undecided on what i think about this perfume for now, but I will test it out a few more times for sure. I want to say that I like the bottle a lot, it's really pretty, and seems very thoughtfully made. I will be sure to update if there are any changes.

Misc Beauty Tools -Tweezerman - tweezers
rated 5 of 5
mg84 9/30/2010 1:21:00 AM

I've been using these tweezers for a few months so far; I had heard a lot of good things about this brand in the past, so I finally decided to try them out after a long time. I think that my experience with them has been pretty good so far. With my old tweezers, it took quite a bit more effort to tweeze my eyebrows, and sometimes it would take a few tries before i could pull out a hair. With these tweezers, it seems easier to grab on to the hairs and pull them out quickly. I also think these are useful for pulling out the little hairs that can pop up in random places at times. I find the slanted design very helpful; in my experience it provides a bit more control when tweezing. After using these, i make sure to put the little plastic cap that came with them back on the ends to keep them more protected. I haven't had these for a long time, but I hope they can last for a good while. They are pretty expensive, but they may be worth a try if other tweezers haven't been very effective for you in the past.

Moisturizers -Cetaphil - Moisturizing Lotion
rated 4 of 5
mg84 7/30/2010 1:47:00 AM

This is my second time writing my review on this lotion (I wrote my first review a few years ago, but decided to start fresh because my way of using it has changed a little bit). I think that my experience with this lotion has been pretty positive overall. I've been using this as a face and body moisturizer for a fairly long time. My skin has been a bit unpredictable at times, but with this lotion, I haven't noticed any significant problems. After cleansing my face as usual, I let it stay slightly wet, and then I rub a pea-size amount of the lotion into my palms and smooth it over my skin quickly. I didn't do this at the very beginning, but when i use it this way, it seems to feel more comfortable for my skin. At times, I also used to spray my skin with my favorite toner (Vichy thermal water), and then apply the lotion in the same manner. Also after showering, I like to apply this to my legs (while still a bit wet). Overall, I think this is a pretty nice product. It is a bit expensive, but it can last for a very long time as well. I would recommend this one as a good, simple lotion to try out.

Makeup Brushes -Ecotools - Bamboo 6 Piece Brush Set
rated 5 of 5
mg84 6/5/2010 3:21:00 PM

I think this brush set from Ecotools is really nice. This is the first full set of brushes that I've purchased, and I've been using a few of the brushes for about a year. The ones that I find myself using most often would be the concealer brush and the lash/brow comb. I had also used the eyeshadow brush for a little while for applying concealer rather than shadows. The blush brush very nice; I have used it just a few times so far (since I haven't been wearing blush as often). It feels very smooth and gentle on the skin, which was a nice surprise, because a couple of the other brushes i had tried before could feel a bit rough at times. All of the brushes seem to have a soft / comfortable feel to them. Overall, I think this brush set would be a smart purchase, definitely worth a try.

Bath Treatments -The Body Shop - Peppermint Cooling Foot Soak
rated 5 of 5
mg84 2/13/2010 1:08:00 PM

I first tried this foot soak from The Body Shop about three or four years ago, though i haven't repurchased it in a long time. My experience with this was pretty positive, very much like with the peppermint foot scrub from TBS. I really enjoyed the nice strong scent of the peppermint, and when i opened up the plastic jar, the little salts reminded me of crushed mint candies : ]. I think this would be a nice item to have around for when you'd like to give yourself a pedicure, or simply if you want to soak your feet in warm water and sooth your skin. From what i remember, this lasted for a good amount of time; and there is a nice amount of product inside. Though i find that this is a bit on the expensive side, I think this is a product that i could see myself trying again.

Makeup Brushes -Ecotools - bamboo eye shading brush
rated 4 of 5
mg84 8/26/2009 4:02:00 PM

This is my first time trying a brush from Ecotools, and i am excited to have come across these brushes at a pharmacy nearby. I remember hearing many positive things about Ecotools on makeupalley, but i had always thought that the products wouldn't be available where i live. I guess this brand had remained a mystery to me for a long time lol. I'm not sure if they are a new addition to the stores here, but i am really glad to have the chance to try these out. Since i had been meaning to purchase a new eyeshadow brush (which i tend to use to apply my concealer with), I decided to choose this eye shading brush. When i opened up the package, i was immediately very impressed by the softness of the bristles. So far, i have been testing out this brush for the past few days, and it has been pleasant to use; i am pretty comfortable with it. It is still early, so i will be sure to update if there are any changes. I look forward to trying more of the Ecotools brushes!

Fragrances -Elizabeth Arden - Britney Spears In Control
rated 4 of 5
mg84 5/10/2009 8:35:00 PM

It might be a bit too early for me to review this, but I will be sure to update if anything changes! In the past, i've had a lot of trouble searching for fragrances to wear. Almost all scents (except for the scent of my deodorant lol) are too strong for me (they tend to make me feel a bit sick). Even a baby fragrance made me feel a little bit ill recently, so i was pretty discouraged :P. I had heard good things about some of the Britney Spears perfumes in the past, but i was always very worried about whether they would be too strong for me. Well, after trying this today, I find this to be a pretty nice scent! I'm not very good at describing fragrances, but i find that this is a warm and sweet fragrance. It is also subtle, and i think it could be a good choice for someone who doesn't want to wear something too overwhelming. I think that the other reviewers have done a pretty nice job of describing the scent, and i'm not sure what else i could add lol. I will write an update if there are any changes, and i will keep wearing this and see how it goes : ].

Polishes -Essie - Guchi Muchi Puchi
rated 4 of 5
mg84 3/14/2009 2:57:00 PM

This is my first time trying a nail polish from Essie, and I think i like this one so far! I've been really interested in light pink shades lately, and I received this one from my family along with a different pink from the Sally Hansen line. I think the previous reviewers have described this color well; it's a nice light pink with a hint of lilac, and the finish is creamy and fairly opaque. I found this one fairly easy to apply, although i think i would prefer if the brush for this polish was a bit wider, as in my case, i have an harder time applying polish evenly with thinner brushes. Overall, i think this is a cute color, and i would look forward to trying other colors from Essie. I applied this to my toes last night, and i still have to see how well the color will stay, but so far it is looking alright. The first time that i tested this color out was on my finger nails, and at that moment, i wondered if this color would suit my warm-toned (light olive) skin, but after trying it on my toes yesterday, it doesn't seem to look too bad. I will update if there are any changes. other info: (i am around NC25)

Lipstick -Revlon - Just Enough Buff
rated 3 of 5
mg84 3/12/2009 7:08:00 PM

I purchased this lipstick just recently, and although it isn't too bad, it doesn't seem to be what i had been expecting overall : [. For me this shade is very similar to my natural lip color, except it seems to add more of an orange tone, which is why i think i'm not really comfortable with it. Even though the texture of this feels pretty soft to me, it has made my lips feel a bit uncomfortable for some reason; there was a very mild burning sensation which i haven't experienced before. I'm not sure if this feeling could go away on its own with time, if i got used to wearing it more often? I'm not sure what to think about this.. Overall, i think this color could be wearable for many people, but i find that it's the orange tones in it that aren't really working for me. I don't think i will be repurchasing this but i will update if there are any changes! other info: i have light olive skin, and around NC25

Polishes -Sally Hansen - No Chip 10 Day Nail Color - Timeless Rose
rated 4 of 5
mg84 3/8/2009 11:37:00 PM

I tried this nail polish very recently, and so far I think I am liking it! I think the previous reviewer's description of the color is very accurate. I had been looking for a simple, light pink nail polish with a creme/matte finish for a while, and a lot of the ones i had tried before were a little too sheer for me. My family ended up picking this one out for me as a surprise, and i was very excited to try this out. I applied this for the first time on my toes two days ago, and so far it still looks pretty good. I was a bit worried about it chipping, due to the previous reviewer's experience, but for me this hasn't chipped so far. I usually don't apply base or top coats, but this time, i tried it out with L'Oreal's Pro Manicure base coat & top coat, and the color seems to be staying very well so far. Overall, I am enjoying this nail color a lot. I find it to be a very soft and pretty shade that is easy to wear. I will be sure to update if there are any changes! other info: i'm warmed toned and i have light olive skin.
