Hair Color -John Frieda - Precision Foam Color

This is a multipart review of several of these john frieda foam products, which I have tested and used since Jan 2012 up until about thirty minutes ago.....with months of non use in between, of course. I have natural almost "mousy" dark blonde hair. When I've been around sun a lot, it is very blonde...in the winter it is that dark blonde but not quite light brown. In January of this year I dyed my hair a john frieda medium natural brown color. IT HAD RED TONES TO IT where there weren't really any showing on the box. In fact, the rather nice lady at ulta had help me pick this out, helping me avoid any brown with reddish tones. WRONGGGGGGGGGGGGG. So I called their helpline and send them some pics of me, and they recommended another brown- once again, I didn't want ANY reddish tones. Nothing against reddish or auburn, but I Had done that before and wanted something different. I believe she had recommended a chocolate type brown for me. It, too, came out red. I'd like to note that I have ZERO red in my hair. NONE, no strawberry blonde, nothing. Over the first week I noticed that the john frieda brunette colors faded very quickly. They just....didn't hold, I guess. I followed all instructions, and I have rather fine hair--but I have never had a hair product leave my hair so quickly. Fine with me since I didn't care for it too much. It all grew out and I was back to my natural, mousy blondish hair color. I tried john frieda's medium natural blonde foam color a few days ago. ONCE AGAIN, mystery red tones appeared out of nowhere. I was so careful to avoid any "ash" or "golden" because I know that can alter the color. I just wanted a pure, medium natural blonde color. NOPE. So, I re-dyed it the john frieda LIGHT natural blonde-- one shade lighter than the medium natural blonde, and lo and behold...RED UNDERTONES. I have dyed my hair plenty of times before with different brands and have never, ever ever ever ever had unintentional red undertones/auburn undertones. So, my guess is that that's J.F's foam dye and that is just how it is. After dying it the light natural blonde color tonight, it sort of looks like a strawberry blonde color. It is....dealable. still isn't what I wanted. I showed my dad, my dad of all people who knows NOTHING about hair color, the box of what it was supposed to be and what it was. even he asked "what the .....?" so this might be it for me and john frieda's foam hair color. I like their other products though. Maybe they need a few years to get it together regarding this hair color. I will say that the foam was relatively easy to use, and not messy. No nasty drip messes which was really, really nice. Better luck to anyone else who tries this product!!!

Skincare - Face -Bliss Labs - that's incredi-'peel'!

LOVE THIS! I have sensitive combination skin with acne scars, some roscacea on my nostrils and cheeks, and get monster zits. My skin is also fair, so I end up with acne scars. I've used this product a few times so far and while it did have a little bit of a tingle, it made my skin feel so soft and smooth upon waking up. This was the FIRST at home skin peel I have ever used- a few years ago I went on a cruise and had a facial and my skin was a disaster afterwards. Not with this product!!!! I am very happy with this product and recommend it.

Moisturizers -Philosophy - Hope in a Jar - for all skin types

I received this product as a gift after lusting after it for some time. I really, really wanted this product to be my HG but ....no. I have sensitive, somewhat acne prone (random seemingly for-no-reason breakouts), some rosacea splotches, a few dry patches on my skin and then some super oily parts on my face. I first tried this awhile ago and noticed that it did leave my skin feeling a little glowy, but after trying it again and again, I have had enough of it. IT STINGS and I think it actually has contributed to breaking out my skin. Disappointed, but once again, now I know that this product does not work for my bipolar skin.

Cleansers -Eucerin - Redness Relief Soothing Cleanser

I just used this product for the first time tonight. I am not a dedicated customer to any brand because I get Product ADD.....I like to try new stuff, which probably isn't good for my sensitive, mostly oily, acne prone skin with mild rosecea. I have mild to moderate rosacea on my nose including broken capillaries and general skin redness. Imagine having a cold and blowing your nose for several days on end. The skin at your nostrils where they meet the face gets really red, right? That is how mine looks most of the time..... So, I have used it for the first time today. I can say that my skin at least feels less itchy and cooler, with the exception of my eye lids, which nearly always burn due to eczema. My skin looks a little calmer at the moment, which is saying something because it usually freaks out when we get a cold front here in Houston. I have high hopes for this product and hope it is "the one."

Eyeliner -Sephora - Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner
rated 5 of 5

I accidentally bought this product in a greenish shade from Sephora.com. I thought I had removed it from my shopping cart, but didn't. I guess that is what I deserve for buying makeup while having wine...but, it turned out to be fortunate because it actually lasted on my skin ALL DAY. I wear glasses and I have oily eyelids with some eczema. I look really young so I rely on eyeliner and mascara, along with a little lipstick, to make my patients believe I really am old enough to take care of them. I applied it at 7am while extremely tired. While applying, it had a nice glide to it and didn't give me any trouble like *cough* certain other eyeliners do. I fully expected to look in the mirror a few hours later and see my usual "second line" of eyeliner on my eyelid, because that is what always happens. This time, though, I didn't have any rub off or "second lines" on my eyelid. No one told me that I had eyeliner marks all over my eyelids or eyebrow because this stuff actually didn't budge!!! I forgot I had it on, again, when I was about to drive home....I looked in the mirror and there was the green eyeliner in its original place! It had faded a bit, but it wasn't rubbed off all over my skin or eyes. So, this product is a winner for me. It came off easily with my clean and clear sensitive skin face wash. I will give this product another go and update if needed. The real test will come when the hot, humid sticky Houston summers roll around again, but for now, I am sold :)

Treatments (Eye) -Unlisted Brand - hylexin

What I dislike about this product: -It burns underneath my eyes. Jeeeez. I should have just put some bengay or iceyhot under there....because even after using a gentle facewash and a gentle touch in applying this on clean skin, IT HURT. -It doesn't work. -It is expensive. The current price at Sephora is $59. Wow, so there are many, many more expensive beauty products out there....so the cost could be worse, but paying $59 for something that burns under my eyes and doesn't work isn't worth it to me. -Turned the delicate eye area RED. Who needs tears and crying to get redness around your eyes....even though I made sure to only use this product under my eyes and keep it from getting anywhere else....and even though I abstained from rubbing or touching my eyes after application, my entire eye area turned red. People were asking me "what's wrong???" and thinking I had been crying. -Most importantly, it didn't work for me....at all. After a month of us, my circles are the same, my under eye area is worse, and I have $59 less in my bank account. I wish I could give this product a -10000 review.

Moisturizers -Clinique - Redness Solutions Daily Relief Moisture Cream
rated 2 of 5
melisaRN816 12/8/2011 7:46:00 PM

I really wanted this product to be "the one." I have acne prone, somewhat oily, sensitive skin with some rosacea splotches. I only apply this on the areas (nose and cheeks) where I have rosacea flare-ups; my flareups are usually mild but during the winter (Houston, TX) they get worse. I think this product actually has made my skin WORSE. It sort of stings when I put it on. I like the smell, consistency of the cream and product packaging, but otherwise, I am quite disappointed ..... my search continues :( UPDATE: I tried this product today when I realized I had left my aveeno at home. My skin actually didn't itch, burn or sting. I have tried this product a few other times...sometimes it DOES sting, and some times it doesn't. It's weird. I don't think I will buy it again. I'm disappointed it did not work for me after hoping it would for so long, but I guess now I know.

pretty packaging, once again-- I love the Clinique brand-- but I can get the same product for my money by just getting this product from Walmart or Target in a cheaper brand.

I got this in a sample size....maybe I am just inept at using this stuff but I don't think I will use it again. It made my skin look sallow. I will try to use it again sometime and report back better results if applicable.

Gave my fair skin a nice pretty glow. I love the packaging and will save it to hold something when I'm all done with this product. This product looks good layered with other BeneFit products or just by itself for a sheer natural glow. love it! It reminds me of happy spring time all year long (minus the allergies!)

I really like Clinique--- A LOT-- but this product made my face greasy and breakout. I don't think I will be purchasing this product again but I will still continue to use Clinique products. Update: I tried this product again to see if my original opinion was wrong....nope. It is gross, greasy and doesn't do anything for me.

Toners -Caudalie - Beauty Elixir
rated 4 of 5
melisaRN816 3/3/2010 2:59:00 PM

This is such a refreshing product. I bought it in the sample size because it's easier to carry in my purse. It makes my face feel nice and fresh; it's a great cool, tingly feeling without any burning feeling associated. I really like it. I'd buy it again. I also love how pretty the bottle is :) UPDATE: I have bought this product a few times. I don't spray it on my face because I have sensitive, red, splotchy rosacea and break out prone skin....in addition to some acne and oil. But, I do spray this on my neck and chest area, where the skin (I think) is a bit thicker than the skin on the face. Some people don't seem to like the smell of it, which I can understand. It doesn't bother me and I feel refreshed when using it. I'll buy again and again.

Primer/ Corrector -Smashbox - Photo Finish Primer

I bought this product in the plastic sample formula (tube, not the glass). I really like the plastic sample size because when there is just a little bit left in the bottle I can cut the bottom of the tube and get the rest out (more for my money!) This product makes my skin feel so smooth and silky, I like it a lot......it is easy to apply and I like it a lot!

Crème -Cover Girl - AquaSmooth SPF15 Make-up
rated 4 of 5
melisaRN816 3/3/2010 2:54:00 PM

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT. It makes my fair skin with random red splotches so creamy and smooth looking. I feel like a flawless super model when I wear this product because for the first time in my life I don't have splotches on my skin when I wear it. This product stays longer on my skin than other foundations, I have the bad habit of touching my face a lot and I wear a mask for work (I'm a nurse in the OR), so foundation rubs off my face quickly. This product stayed on for awhile longer than the others. I use this product in Ivory, which I believe is the absolute lightest shade they have. I'd buy it again! UPDATE: I am updating this after my first review about 1.5 years ago. I still use this product though alternating with Tarte amazonian clay tinted moisturizer. I like this product because it comes with a sponge and a mirror, and keeps my hands off my face. This is a great product to throw in your travel bag or purse when you don't want to carry liquid foundation and a blending brush around with you. I use this product a lot for touching up my foundation. I will buy again and again.....I hope it never gets discontinued. My only beef with Covergirl is that they test on animals, so I have a little bit of a moral dilemma when using this product.
