Mascara -Tarte - Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara

Love this mascara. The color is the blackest black. The brush defines nicely and gives glossy, long, separated lashes. I have nothing bad to say about this product. I've had no issue of flaking or smudging. I also love how my eyelashes don't feel hard or crunchy after using this!

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast 24 HR Mascara
rated 2 of 5

Impossible to remove. I lost a ton of lashes trying to get this stuff off. Washed twice with Purpose face wash and it didn't budge. Then I tried argan oil which removed some of it, but left a flaky mess behind. I don't know why I didn't realize this was a waterproof mascara. I bought it mainly for the color Blue Black which really is a nice color. I wish the other LashBlasts came in that color. I've only used this once and I can't imagine I'll ever wear it again. If you need a SUPER waterproof mascara, this might be the one for you, because it won't budge.

Expensive, removes hair well, but leaves skin red/puffy/irritated/sore/burning/blotchy... Immediately after removal skin is smooth. Next day, skin is rough.

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Healthy Defense daily moisturizer SPF 50 Sensitive Skin
rated 5 of 5
megrisen 9/27/2011 2:41:00 PM

I had been using the SPF 50 for non-sensitive skin for about 2 years and bought this formula for sensitive skin when I ran out. I was expecting it to leave a white cast on my skin, but it didn't! I was expecting to be oily by lunch time, but I wasn't! This doesn't seem to moisturize as much as the original formula which may be a problem this winter, but as long as it is hot and humid outside, this will be my go-to formula for sunblock!

Tools -Sally Hansen - Nip 'em on the go cuticle trimmer
rated 3 of 5
megrisen 5/25/2011 3:03:00 PM

These trimmers are so reasonably priced at around $6 at ULTA. They are sharp and compact. My only gripe with these is that the hinge is greased with black oil which gets on everything. I've wiped it off numerous times, but the grease just oozes out of the hinge every time I use it. These are a great budget buy. Just don't use them on anything that might get ruined by oil.

Cleansers -Boscia - MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil
rated 3 of 5
megrisen 5/16/2011 10:41:00 PM

This cleansing oil did not take off my eye makeup and I rarely wear more than concealer and mascara. Also, even though I did not get this in my eyes, it ruined my contacts. It left a cloudy film on them. For those reasons I will not repurchase. I did like how my skin felt after using this, but only after I washed my face with Johnson and Johnson head to toe wash afterwards. My skin almost felt like it didn't need lotion after using these two together.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Poppy by Coach

Light, fresh, and almost fruity. I've always loved this fragrance but thought it was pricey. When I got a gift card for Sephora I finally bought some. It is a young fragrance, not too sophisticated, but I think its perfect for everyday wear. I almost detect a pineapple note somewhere in there. Anyway, its a keeper for me!

Lip Treatments -Neosporin - Lip Health Daily Hydration Therapy Suncreen SPF 20
rated 5 of 5
megrisen 5/8/2011 11:29:00 PM

I paid close to $5 for this, but at the time, I was desperate. Every so often, my top lip gets really tight. It never cracks or looks dry, but it FEELS dry and nothing fixes it. Until now. After using regular chapstick for weeks with no relief, I bought this stuff. Within 3 days my lips were not not tight anymore and look and feel totally normal. I only wear this at night because it is a semi-opaque white cream and would look terrible if I wore it out of the house. It also has a very gritty texture after application which I can't seem to figure out. However, with such great results I'll keep using this as long as they make it!

Lotions/ Creams -Cetaphil - Restoraderm skin restoring moisturizer
rated 5 of 5
megrisen 4/8/2011 11:18:00 PM

This is the perfect moisturizer if you dry our your skin with anti-aging and acne products. After just one night my skin was transformed from rough, bumpy, and red, to smooth and soft. I only use it at night, so I cannot comment on how oily your skin might be if used during the day. This also stopped the itching on my legs and left my usually rough elbows super soft! This is the best Cetaphil product yet. I think I paid about $10 for this at CVS.

Powder -Bare Escentuals - Matte Foundation spf 15
rated 1 of 5
megrisen 2/13/2011 12:13:00 PM

Hives. Red, burning face. Swelling. All things you might experience using this product. My skin is not particularly sensitive considering how fair I am, but this product gave me a severe allergic reaction within seconds of applying it to my face. It took hours for the redness and bumpiness to subside. I have used the original bare minerals for years and loved it so I thought I would try the matte version. I have never had such a severe allergic reaction to anything in my entire life. I was almost in tears with the pain and itching. My eyes were swelling. In comparing the ingredients from the original and the matter versions, it appears that the main differences are in the inactive ingredients. The matte version has "Lauroyl lysine, silica, calcium silicate, and soil minerals." I don't which ingredient I am allergic to, but I know I have never heard of lauroyl lysine before. In any event, buyer beware.

Eyes -Unlisted Brand - Careprost~Generic Brand Latisse
rated 4 of 5
megrisen 10/28/2010 8:34:00 PM

I got this from alldaychemist.com for $10 per bottle. I have been using this for about 12 weeks and I am still on my first bottle. Background: I have fair, sensitive skin and red hair. my lashes were short and pale on the ends. I started taking pictures to compare length but since the tips are still pale you can't really tell a difference until I put on mascara. Pros: This stuff is cheap. And it works. My lashes are so much longer that my husband even noticed. I love putting on my makeup every morning because my eyes look so much more awake. I had very few side effects. Cons: My lashes didn't get darker or thicker, only longer. Also, my eyelids reddened slightly after use. It took at LEAST 8 weeks before I saw any growth at all. I will definitely keep using this stuff!

Hair Color -Paul Mitchell - PM Shines
rated 4 of 5
megrisen 9/25/2010 10:33:00 PM

I had this process done in a salon 3 days ago. It cost $40. My naturally strawberry blonde hair (level 7) had faded due to the summer sun and I wanted to bring back some richness. I got this in a slightly darker and redder version of my own hair (knowing it would wash out super fast). The color was a bit intense when I first saw it, but after 2 washings I am absolutely in love! I know since its red it will wash out very quickly, but I am ok with that as long as the brilliant shine sticks around. The shine is almost blinding and my hair had no lingering hair color smell. The only downside I see to using this is that I got "hot roots" meaning my roots took the color a little more intensely than my ends due to the heat of my scalp. That is the only unnatural looking part of the hair color. My friends didn't even notice that my hair had been colored (a good thing because it is so hard to find a natural looking red). Overall, I am very pleased with this product. I made an 8 week appointment to get it redone. I might go a little more brown than red next time, although my husband loves the red! :-)

Liquid -Revlon - PhotoReady Makeup
rated 4 of 5
megrisen 4/14/2010 2:25:00 PM

I compared this to Smashbox Healthy FX foundation and I think I like the Revlon better. The Revlon has more shade choices and I find that for my very fair skin, the first 2 colors work well. I apply with fingers which I think give better coverage than when using a sponge. I did not notice any shimmer in this product at all. It is just smooth and creamy and covered *most* of my flaws however concealer is still a must. For the price difference, I would go for the Revlon over Smashbox.

Palettes -Bobbi Brown - Color Strip Palette in Orchid Spring 2010
rated 4 of 5
megrisen 3/27/2010 10:54:00 PM

This is a limited edition palette from the Spring 2010 collection. Orchid comes with 5 eye shadows and 3 pot rouges. From the website: A complete spring eye, lip and cheek wardrobe - designed by Bobbi. Palette has one bright eye shadow (Orchid) plus four coordinating shades that make it wearable. For lips and cheeks, there are three cool shades of Pot Rouge. Imagine the possibilities. Measures 4.25 X 2.113 X 0.809 closed. Included Eye Shadow Shades: White, Dusty Plum Metallic, Orchid Sparkle, Mulberry, and Caviar Included Pot Rouge shades: Powder Pink, Pale Pink, and Sand Pink The matte white is just a standard white shadow. Kind of chalky in my opinion. The shimmery silver is my favorite color and subtle and shimmery. The shimmery purple is not heavily pigmented so do not be scared of this color. It leave a very pretty sparkley wash of purple on the lid. This is my second favorite color. The matte purple is suprisingly my least fave color. On the lid the color looks kind of muddy. It is kind of chalky and makes the skin look bruised if applied to the whole lid. It does make a nice liner with a damp liner brush. The matte black makes a very good liner. I like the powder pink for the lips the best. It really brightens the face. The pale pink is best for cheeks. Looks way to bubble gum on the lips. I like the sand pink best for cheeks also. Overall I really like this palette. I am going to wear these colors for my wedding. They stay on through the day. The palette is $60. A little pricey, but you get quite a range of products. The palette also comes in a color "Bonfire" and "Aquamarine." Both also look very pretty.
