Mascara -Estee Lauder - Sumptuous

My favourite mascara! I actually bought this at an Estee Lauder warehouse sale for $8. Not sure how much it retails for, but the most I've spent on a mascara is $25 CDN and this is worth that IMO. Personally, I don't buy mascaras full price. I always buy them at CCOs or at warehouse sales because I can't fathom spending more than $25 for a product that has an expiration of 3 months. On to the product... I have long lashes to begin with, but this gives it that extra ooomph, ya know. Doesn't give me spidery lashes, gives gorgeous volume. I am a mascara addict and this tops my list!

Cleansers -Derma E - Glycolic Facial Cleanser with Marine Plant Extracts

Looooove this! I'm crossing my fingers that this is finally my HG cleanser. The price is so-so... although I've actually spent more on other cleansers. I have acne-prone skin, and I switched from Pro-Activ to natural/organic skincare products about a month ago. I am happy with the results so far, not perfect, i still get the occasional pimples here and there, but they don't last long (1 day or 2) and they are now under control. I do believe that this cleanser has played a big part in helping calm down my breakouts. I use it morning and night. You have to put it on dry skin! In the morning I apply this to my face before jumping in the shower. Although it says to remove with warm washcloth, I just make sure I rinse really well. At night, I use a separate makeup remover, and then apply this. I love how my face feels afterwards. It doesn't dry out my skin, and I know my face is really clean because there's hardly anything on the cotton pad when I tone. Love, love, love! (I hope I don't jinx it)

Great product! I alternate between this and the Prescriptives one, and I find that I reach out for this one more often. I love the scent, and my face feels smooth afterwards. And you can't beat the price!

Foundations -Giorgio Armani - Designer Modelling Compact Foundation SPF 22

Mmmmkay. This is not going to be nice. I wanted to try this product based on the reviews here. The SA at Holt Renfrew matched me to shade 7. I wanted to get the 5.5 (the next lightest shade) but the SA insisted that 7 should work. I went home, tried it the next morning, it looked nice, but it was just too dark. So, because it kinda looked nice on my skin, I decided to buy the 5.5 shade so I can mix them together. BAD idea. First of all, this is not a cheap foundation. It costs about 70 dollars plus taxes, and I got 2 so I'm mad at myself for having 2 foundations for about $150 that I dont even like. For some reason, 5.5 alone or a combination of 5.5/7 just didnt look as nice as my initial application. It's cakey and my face was an oil slick by the end of the day. I tried it with primer and it actually looked nice, but then that was the same day that my face was blemish free. I tried it on my not-so-nice-face days, and it highlights every imperfections you have on your face. I think for this foundation to work, you have to have nice skin to begin with. And when I do put it on on my nice-face-days, I have to use a primer to control the oilies and I think the whole process is just too expensive.... not worth the $$$. I am NOT buying this again. I am waiting until my face tans a little bit so I can see how the 7 will look since it looked nice the first time. I am so disappointed and that's just $$$ down the drain.

Liquid -Make Up For Ever - Face & Body Foundation
rated 4 of 5

I like this. Not HG, for a couple of reasons, but this is ... nice. First, let's talk about the price. This is about the same price as my favourite foundation, EL Double Wear. But... you're getting 50 ml instead of 30 ml. Packaging... I wish it came with a pump. The finish is sheer, and I havent tried putting on a lot of layers so I can't speak for its buildability. It does transfer to clothing, unlike Double Wear, but I dont wear turtlenecks so that's not a problem. I dont have to spread the foundation way down my neck since the colour match is perfect! I use #34 and I am a 4W1 in Double Wear, NC35 in MAC Studio Fix. Aaaand, this is probably the most natural looking foundation I have ever used -- and I have tried tons! I used to wonder how the foundation can look like your own skin, but this does!!! But it makes it better! It is smooth and just... nice! It takes a bit of patience when you put it on because it seems so wet on your face initially. I admit it does look streaky when using a foundation brush ( I usually use my MAC 190), but it sets nicely when it dries and all the streaks are gone. You dont need a lot, I wait a few minutes and then I just dab a bit more on areas that need more coverage. I have tried it with my fingers but it seems like I was wasting a lot of product and it takes longer. Best of all, it does not break me out, but then again you should be washing your face thoroughly when removing ANY foundation. I have combination skin and it does get really shiny around my Tzone but I use the new MUFE HD Loose Powder, and it's just magic. I use other powder on top of this but with the HD Loose Powder, the finish is just flawless.

Liquid -Hourglass - Veil Fluid Makeup SPF 15

Hmmmmm... I really didn't need a new foundation so this was an impulse buy. I've been really happy with Double Wear but I don't like the heaviness it feels on my face especially now that summer is approaching. Coverage was good but I still wanted to see what was out there. I tried DW Light but was not happy with the coverage. Soooo.... I saw this at Sephora and it's $$$ but what the heck? It smelled and felt nice. I only tried it on my neck so I wasn't sure about the colour match but I decided to take a chance and I grabbed No. 5 (I'm 4W1 in Double Wear, NC42 Studio Fix, M70 in Cover Fx -- these shades are really between my summer and winter shades... I find that this way, I don't look to washed out in the winter and I just add a touch of bronzer in the summer). Well, what do you know... It was a great colour match and it just glides on your face when you put it on. I also bought the brush with it and it just feels glorious on my face! You can layer on for a more full coverage but I still need to use concealer for my horrible old acne spots. I put the concealer after the foundation and just pat on another layer of foundation on the concealed area. I honestly don't know how much I'm using each application. I guess one pump for the whole face, and then about half a pump just for another layer. Another tiny bit for the concealed area. I have combination skin so I still have to set with powder and blot around mid day and just before I leave work but I don't really mind because even with full coverage it looks sooo natural, whereas with DW, I looked like I was wearing makeup. I was worried because I got a bump on my cheek after my first day of wearing it but thankfully it was gone in 2 days and I've never had any since. I've been wearing it for 2 weeks (LOL, still early, I know...) but so far so good. I wish it didn't transfer on clothing like DW, but oh well. I will buy again, but I don't think this is HG. UPDATE: Had to return this. Summer is approaching, thus the oilies are back. Didn't do anything to my t-zone, my face was a discoball at the end of the day. NOT recommended for combination/oily skin.

Liquid -Cover FX - Cover FX - Natural FX
rated 2 of 5

I like the cream version of this foundation but I like the ease of application with liquid foundations, but this one is just bleh. The first half hour after application is great, but my combination skin is a used frying pan after 2 hours. Not a pretty sight. I still use it when I'm not expecting to be out for a long time because Cover FX does not break me out. Probably won't buy this again because I have found my HG liquid foundation (EL Double Wear).

I really like the finish that this product gives my combination skin, but it just breaks me out! I use it for 2 days then I just stop because I start to develop cystic acne and it takes 2 weeks to clear my face up. Really, really wanted to make it work because this is the only foundation that doesn't give me a ghost face in photographs. I probably won't buy again, I'm just waiting to finish my bottle which will probably last me a lifetime since I only use it twice a year.

Makeup Brushes -Cover FX - Cover FX Cream Foundation Brush 160

I love this brush. I use this to apply cream foundation, but using this with liquid works just as well. I find that I waste less product and by applying in a small circular motion with a light hand gives a flawless finish. The only problem I have with this is it sheds but that's something I can live with.

Great product! I have tried this both in medium and light, and find that both work well with my complexion. I am M60 in powder and liquid, M70 in cream. I apply it with a brush and just pat it on the areas that look shiny. I don't really know what else to say about this powder except that it does its job well.

Liquid -Estee Lauder - Double Wear
rated 5 of 5
meezteeh 1/4/2008 12:31:00 AM

I think I may have found my HG foundation. I thought Cover FX would be the one, and although I still like it, my face is just too oily for it to last the whole day. So back to productville I went to do some research... and discovered Double Wear. Why I missed this before I do not know. Granted, I've only started using it for a couple days and I still don't know whether this would cause breakouts in the long run, but the finish is just so great, colour almost a perfect match (may need a darker one in the summer), and it's true to its name... first day I wore it for 15 hours and it stayed put. No need for any mattifying powder and i only had to blot 3 times in those 15 hrs (just the nose) --- having said all that this one is *potential* HG for me. I'm soooo excited I really hope this works out. For reference, I'm NC42 in the summer, NC35 pot concealer, M60 Cover FX Powder and M70 Cream. I use EL Double Wear in Shell Beige.

it's still too early to give a review but i just can't help it... i like this product a lot! today is actually the first time i've tried cover fx. in the past 15 months, i've tried 10 foundations in total, including BE, LM mineral, alima, MAC studio fix, chanel and i was pretty happy with my MUFE powder and it was the first time i hit the pan - but this only after 4 weeks of usage! anyway, my friends have been telling me to try it so finally yesterday i picked this up at shoppers including the cream foundation brush (love!). the sales associate helped me in finding a colour match (M70). I swear, i don't need to use a concealer anymore, and the brush made applying this make up effortless! it was very hot today and i only had to blot once and i always have a shiny t-zone! i'm taking 1 lippie off because of the price but i may upgrade it to a 5 depends on how long it takes for me to finish the compact.

Deodorants -Unlisted Brand - Certain Dri
rated 5 of 5

5 lippies for this product! I don't have odour problems (at least i don't think i do), but my armpits sweat, not excessively, but just enough to make me feel self-conscious to the point that i was careful about what i wear (lots of black tops in my closet). it didn't matter whether it is 20 degrees below outside, my armpits still sweat, the right one the most... weird, i know. i've tried everything out there, and was happy with mitchum, but i still get wet spots. i actually discovered certain dri here on makeupalley, and i was on my way to shoppers the next day. to canadian residents, or at least in toronto, you have to special order it at the pharmacy, they don't usually have it in stock, but it will come in 1-2 days, and it sells for about $10 can't remember the exact price. i've been using it for 2 months now, and i've started wearing my non-black tops :) it did sting a bit the first few nights i put it on, and it still gets a little itchy. the key is not to overapply, i did it the first 2 applications thinking it would be more effective, but the excess made the skin around my armpits burn and i had rashes for 5 days. now i apply it every other day and the bottle is still a little more than half full. to make this review short, this product is heaven-sent and i will buy again and again and again...

Powder -Laura Mercier - Mineral Powder SPF 15

So far so good. I've switched from BE to Alima, and had to switch mmu after noticing a few bumps on my chin and cheeks. It's been a week and my face has calmed down. The shade (Real Vanilla) is a little bit dark, I may have to mix it with Real Sand later on. The finish is gorgeous, luminous, a little shiny but i just blot on with Smashbox Compact Anti-Shine in the middle of the day and it's good again. It was really tested when I was out dancing a couple nights ago and didn't have to touch up once! It was amazing! I'm giving it an overall rating of 4 because it is a little bit on the pricey side.

I can't believe the amount of $$$ I've spent searching for the perfect MMU brush. This is it, ladies! I've tried BE, Sephora bronzer, MAC 187 (I still love this brush, btw, but it's just too soft to buff), MAC 182 (it's good but not good enough for the price)... okay maybe I haven't tried a LOT compared to some ppl here but I'm just soo happy I found this brush. It's soft, doesn't shed (ahem, mac 182), and applies mmu effortlessly. I ordered a second one as back-up because the brush takes long to dry after washing.
