Bronzers -Giorgio Armani - Sheer Bronzer #1
rated 5 of 5

Love this bronzer, hate the price tag but it's worth it. I use a little blush on the apples of my cheeks and then this along the tops of my cheekbones and forehead. It goes on very light and it's hard to see in some lights but it gives the most beautiful glow to skin. I'm not sure how it would work on darker skin, I'm very pale blonde with freckles and I use a lot more of this than I would a MAC or Benefit bronzer. When I wear this and catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror, even on a day where I'm feeling scrubby, I'm always impressed! Doesn't break me out. The product does break very easily though and I seem to always drop it!

Self Tanners -Clarins - Liquid Bronze

I love this self tanner. I am super pale with freckles and this is great for winter when the bronze look doesn't exactly look natural. I wouldn't say it gives me a "tan," it just makes my skin look more even with a hint of color. Combined with a little powder bronzer on the cheeks it looks great. It also makes my skin feel soft. I use retin-a and most self tanners sting but this one feels good and actually soothes my skin. For summer I'll look for something with more color though.

Lip Gloss -Chanel - Rouge Double Intensité - Ruby Lite

I rarely wear lip color this bright, but everyone should have a great red in their makeup case. Unfortunately I've tried SO many reds and never liked them. They are always either too wine/brown/orange/pink on me. Plus, with a lip color that dramatic you can't let it wear off or it just looks bad, so you end up having to constantly check it and reapply. This color is PERFECT though, and it's about as low maintenance as you can get for a red. No need for liner because it doesn't bleed, no need to touch up because it lasts forever! The color is great - it's got a bit of a shimmer so it doesn't look to vampy. I think it's blue-based so it looks good on people with "cool" coloring (I'm pale, blue eyes, freckles). I apply with a brush and let it dry about 30 seconds before applying the gloss.

Lipstick -Vincent Longo - Lip Stain Foolish Virgin

The color looks great in the tube, it's definitely more "bright pink" on my lips though. Still pretty a nice color though. What I hate is that it totally dries out my lips after about an hour. It starts to feel so nasty I have to constantly wipe it off and apply a fresh layer. I imagine after another week or so I'll throw it into my makeup case never to be seen again. Plus $23 seems like a lot to pay for a regular tube of lipstick, no fancy packaging or anything. I gladly spend $30 on my Chanel lipstick, but that's worth it. This is not!

Concealers -Clinique - Advanced Concealer
rated 5 of 5
mcrevell 12/28/2005 3:42:00 PM

Considering that I've been using this for over 10 years (wow I feel old), I guess it's my HG. The formula takes a lot of getting used to - it's very dry so you have to put it on well moisturized skin and you have to work with it very quickly or it will set. I squeeze a tiny drop on my finger, apply to blemish, they quickly tap it until I have the coverage I want and it's smooth and invisible on my skin. No other concealer I've tried covers better or lasts longer. Definitely NOT for dry skin or delicate undereye areas, but perfect for blemishes! The packaging is ok - sometime the product dries in the tip, then you have to squeeze the tube hard to unplug it and of course it squirts everywhere. One tube will last you years though!

Mascara -Shu Uemura - Mascara Basic [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5

The brush is by farthe best I've ever come across, but unfortunately the mascara formula sucks! I like black mascara, but this just seems so light and un-dramatic. Even for everyday wear I like darker lashes. I also don't like that it's waterproof, it's too hard to remove. I think I will clean and save the brush though to use with a better formula mascara.

Blush -NARS - Orgasm Blush

The color is ok, I like the shimmer but even on my pale skin this shade seems too light. Definitely isn't as great as people say!

Brows -BeneFit Cosmetics - NEW BrowZings
rated 5 of 5
mcrevell 12/28/2005 3:34:00 PM

I love this product. Definitely pulls my look together...neat brows can work wonders for your face. I tend to use more of the wax than the powder - my brows are blonde and even the light shade is a bit too dark. I think I paid $26, definitely more than a brow pencil but I think this looks more natural than a pencil plus it tames stray hairs much better. When my Benefit counter ran out of this, I bought the Smashbox brow kit but the lightest shade almost looks orangey on me. Definitely prefer the Benefit! The packaging should be more durable though...my husband knocked it out of the medicine cabinet once and the lid broke off and all the powder cake came out and broke.

Highlighters -Christian Dior - Skinflash

I think the package it super cute, but sadly that's the best thing about this. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either and for this price I expect great. I suppose it does brighten up the undereye area a bit, but it's nothing too noticeable and it definitely doesn't conceal anything. I do like how liquidy it is, creamier concealers always bunch up in the fine lines under my eyes and they're so hard to blend in that delicate undereye area. Sometimes I put a little around my nose to cover any mild redness, but any old concealer can do that!

Lip Gloss -Chanel - Rouge Double Intensité - Amethyst
rated 5 of 5
mcrevell 12/28/2005 3:24:00 PM

By far the best long-lasting lipstick I've ever tried. I've tried the cheapy drug store brands and the MAC long last and HATED them all, the colors were always awful and the product came out all gritty and always bunched up on my lips. I bought the Chanel to wear at my wedding so I wouldn't have to worry about reapplying lipstick all night. It lasted all day, I only had to touch up the gloss a few times. The color is darker than I would wear for everyday use (I'm blonde and fairly pale) but it's great for anytime I want a little more drama. It can also be lightened up a bit with a lighter colored lip gloss on top instead of the cleargloss that comes with it. I would suggest putting it on with a lipstick brush instead of the spongey applicator thing. Also make sure your lips are exfoliated and totally bare before you apply this, otherwise it will go on unevenly and it's VERY hard to take off!

Lip Gloss -Chanel - Rouge Double Intensité - all shades
rated 5 of 5
mcrevell 7/20/2005 12:02:00 PM

Hands down the best lip product I've ever purchased. I am actually GIDDY about this! I have been looking for a good lipstick for my upcoming wedding, and all the colors I've liked haven't been long lasting enough, and I have always had horrible experiences with the Revlon/Covergirl long lasting lip products. I actually tried on the two lightest shades at the Chanel counter since I'm so fair, but I figured I'd want something a little more bold to show up in my wedding pics, so on a whim I selected Amethyst. I figured if it was too dark I could layer a light pink glossimer over it, but I actually love the color on its own and have been using the clear gloos that is part of the product. The color lasts all day, and while it can feel a bit uncomfortable when the gloss wears away, it never flakes or balls up. The color is perfect, it actually makes my eyes look bluer and my teet h look whiter if that's possible. I LOVE it and highly recommend it.

Loose Powders -Laura Mercier - translucent loose powder
rated 5 of 5
mcrevell 7/20/2005 10:38:00 AM

I think this powder is awesome - I love the fact that it is truly colorless, which means it doesn't really change the color of my foundation or skin. It just evens it out and prevents shine. My friends always say I have "perfect" skin, which I really don't. This powder just makes it look perfect. I have been happy with the Elizabeth Arden loose powder as well, but EA doesn't make a translucent/colorless powder so I prefer the LM. It is pricey though but lasts a long time.

Moisturizers -Eucerin - Eucerin Renewal SPF 15
rated 5 of 5

I also purchased this after reading about it on the acne regimine website. It is awesome! It goes on really thin which I like, since I have combination skin and don't like the way thick creams feel on my face. Even though it's thin it moisturizes really well. Most oil-free, acne targeted moisturizers don't do anything and make it hard to put foundation over them. This is perfect and it's SO cheap!

Loose Powders -Elizabeth Arden - Flawless Finish Loose Powder
rated 5 of 5
mcrevell 3/29/2005 3:02:00 PM

This is a great loose powder - I like Laura Mercier loose translucent a little better though. This powder does have some color whereas LM is totally colorless. So if you like to apply a thicker layer of powder this would be good because you won't get that washed-out look that too much LM powder can cause. It's cheap, too!

Liquid -Clinique - Perfectly Real Makeup
rated 4 of 5
mcrevell 3/29/2005 2:59:00 PM

I love the packaging - I'm a total klutz and have broken countless glass foundation bottles so this is really good for me. This foundation goes on very smooth, and disappears into skin, but there's really not much of a difference between this and a bare face. If you already have perfect skin I guess it would help brighten and smooth it, but if you have any sort of flaws this doesn't do much to hide them. But with a little concealer and loose powder finish it looks great!
