Fragrances -L'Artisan Fragrances - Voleur de Roses
mckywer 4/5/2005 12:13:00 AM
Whenever I wear this fragrance a specific picture comes to mind. All of the windows in my house are open because it's a warm, muggy day. It's dark outside - not cause it's late, but because it's supposed to rain. The wind is blowing throughout the house, and suddenly I begin to hear the raindrops fall - slowly at first, but they quickly pick up speed. The rain falls fast and furious, and just as soon as it started, it's over. The wind carries the most beatiful scent in through my windows - warm, wet earth and roses. I inhale deeply and realize that I'm just sniffing Voleur de Roses. Magnificent.

Fragrances -Chanel - Gardenia
mckywer 2/21/2005 12:04:00 AM
I have NEVER been a floral lover - only because they don't smell good on me. I don't know why - they would just turn sour or acidic and end up making me feel ill or giving me a headache. I have tried though - many times - only because I really love the smell of gardenia, tuberose, jasmine - many of the exotic florals. The first two KIND OF agreed with me - but not to the point I'd ever buy a fragrance with those as the primary notes - there was definitely something weird happening with them once they touched my skin. Jasmine, on the other hand, NEVER smelled nice on me. Anyway, one day I decided to try my sample of Chanel Gardenia. I dabbed it on my wrist - waiting for it at any moment to start making me feel ill. Well, I waited and waited and waited. Oh my goodness - it didn't happen. It was the most gorgeous jasmine/gardenia scent I've ever smelled and it didn't change once it encountered my chemistry. It's not an overwhelming floral, like Fracas, which I really like - on other people. Rather, it's a light, ethereal fragrance. I can't get enough. I'm even considering buying the parfum. It's a bit pricey, yes, but I may never come across a floral (white floral) that smells this good on me again. For the time being, I'll just have to douse myself with the EDT.

Fragrances -Houbigant - Quelques Fleurs Royale
mckywer 12/24/2004 11:32:00 AM
My goodness - did I ever go on a perfume shopping spree this month. To add to it, I stopped by NM to try out all the Chantecaille fragrances. None suited me - so I walked around a little more and spotted Quelque Fleurs Royale. I KNEW I wouldn't like it - I had tried it once before but for some reason it didn't appeal to me at all. But, of course I had to try it again. So I did. I fell in love - hard. I bought it, much to my dismay, but I've been wearing it everyday and I love it. Did I mention that I love it? Though it out a-hurtin' in my bank account, it's worth it.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Ginestet Botrytis
mckywer 7/9/2004 12:26:00 PM
Being that Escada Collection is my favorite fragrance, and hearing how Botrytis SO closely resembles it, I had to try. Well, this is another sample I received in my Lucky Scent package (along with Monyette Paris - huge disappointment), anyway, I tried on Botrytis and it smelled exactly like Escada Collection - but I had heard that after a few minutes Botrytis becomes more wine-like. Well, I was waiting for this to happen. I kept sniffing and sniffing, and VERY FAINTLY I could tell a difference. I guess on me it keeps the sweeter notes and really doesn't morph into a wine smell - which is fine with me. I would've like to smell like a combination of rich red wine and Escada Collection, but since the wine part didn't happen, I'll stick to my old (but VERY beautiful) staple.

Fragrances -Monyette Paris - Monyette Paris

Oh, how I thought I was going to love this. I could't wait to get my sample from lucky scent - well, I finally got it today. I ripped open the package, and out of the 6 samples I ordered, I tried this one first. Oh my gawd!!!! How it absolutely stunk on my skin. I'm completely disappointed. Every single fragrance I think I'm going to love ends up smelling sour and rotten on me. What's up with my chemistry??? I wanted so badly for this to be "the one." Well, it's "not the one." I don't know what happened - I don't smell any Nag Champa - all I smell is rotten gardenia. I'm really not a floral person (all floral perfumes turn weird on my skin), but since I thought Chanel Gardenia smelled good on me, I believed that this one would too - could I be more wrong! How envious I am of those who wear this scent and smell gorgeous. Guess I'd better stick to what I know.

Fragrances -L'Aromarine - L'Aromarine Fleurs Blanches
mckywer 6/26/2004 3:22:00 PM
oh my goodness - how i hate florals......so why in the world do i love this scent? i tend to be attracted to sweet, foody, spicy, tabacco-y, musky scents...but the first time i smelled this perfume, i loved it. florals usually make me sick and a give me a headache, but this one smells so clean and fresh. it smells like wet flowers. not overpowering at all. it's not an "in-your-face" perfume - which is a GREAT thing. this perfume is the only floral as of today that i have ever loved - let alone liked.

Fragrances -Versace - red jeans
mckywer 6/1/2004 11:39:00 PM
This perfume makes me very nostalgic. It reminds me of the best times of my life....and my friends tell me that it reminds them of me. Of course all things in life must end, just like my use of this fragrance. I'll always love it and think of it fondly, but I've grown up and I've changed, but it's funny that all of the fragrances I wear now are reminiscent of my beloved red jeans. This will always be the perfect fragrance for me. Maybe one day, when I get tired of searching for the next best thing, I'll return to it. But, for now it brings back memories of people and places that I loved dearly but will never see or visit again, and it's almost too painful to even smell it on someone else. But I have two and a half bottles still taking up residence in my closet - just for memory's sake.

Concealers -New York Color - Cover Stick in Natural
mckywer 5/30/2004 9:31:00 PM
Love this concealer!! I've tried high end brand concealers (only to make me break out), more expensive drug store brand concealers (looked cakey and noticeable), and I was about to give up. I've spent so much money on concealers - trying to find the "perfect" one that would cover up my pimples (I always have at least 2 on my face) - that I probably could've bought stock in about 5 different brands. Well, I decided to take a look at MUA - I read many raves about NYC, and decided that for that price I should try. So, I went to Walgreens, purchased the natural - only because medium was too dark and light was too light, and cautiously applied it to my "imperfections." Man - was I scared it would make me break out even more. NO WAY!!! It looked perfect!!!! So inconspicuous and it didn't even make my face look like it was that time of the month all the time - kinda like bare essentuals did - i don't care what anyone says - that crap made me break out like you wouldn't believe - but that's for a different review. Anyway, back to NYC - I love it, and I've been using it for about a year now. The only thing that stinks is the packaging - the cap came off in my bag and the concealer got all over everything. but hey - I can deal with that! A little masking tape, and problem solved!! And just for you sceptics out there - my friend said to me about 4 days ago,"I didn't know you break out - I NEVER see a pimple on your face!" Ha Ha!! Thanks NYC - looks like we've got everyone fooled!

Fragrances -Fragonard - Grain de Soleil
mckywer 5/23/2004 11:06:00 PM
When I first received my sample of this, I tried it out and didn't really think much of it - but for some reason i couldn't stop smelling me wrist. i put a little more on and realized that it smells like joop when first applied, but it dries down to a nice warm fragrance. it doesn't smell that florally on me, which is good cause i don't like floral fragrances. i can't really explain what it smells like, except for that it smells like joop but warmer and more unique. i love it.

Fragrances -Escada - Collection [DISCONTINUED]
mckywer 5/22/2004 4:30:00 PM
This is the second review I've every done, and they reason I'm writing it is because everyone needs to know how beautiful this fragrance is. When I first got it (I bought it smell unsmelled), I sprayed it on and wasn't crazy about it. I was upset cause I figured I'd just wasted more money on another perfume I wouldn't wear. Well, I tried it again the next day, and I was ADDICTED!!!! It smells like cherry pipe tabacco but SOOOOO much better. I love it. I could see how people would say it's a fall/winter fragrance, but I love it so much, I'm gonna wear it all year.

Fragrances -Nino Cerruti - 1881 Pour Femme
mckywer 4/26/2004 12:47:00 AM
I'm not one to write reviews, but when it comes to this fragrance, I must. Typically, I'm drawn to spicy, fruity, semi-sweet, warm fragrances - fragrances with mystery, sensuality, and depth. Nothing too flowery or green - scents that seem to turn on my skin. Maybe that's why I like this one so much - it's described as a floral/woody, but in my opinion, there's nothing floral about it (which is good). It smells warm, fruity, and simply heavenly. I keep testing different perfumes - looking for the "right" one, but for some reason, I always come back to this. This fragrance is definitely something I would wear on a warm summer night - very inviting and mysterious, but light enough to not be cloying, and unique enough to be remembered.
