Lipstick -Revlon - Super Lustrous in Blushing Nude (New for Fall '08)
rated 2 of 5

I bought this lipstick based on swatches I've seen online and the generally good reviews. The color has been described by many as being a neutral rosy nude. I have to say this was not the case for me, and on my lips it is a straight up terra cotta orange/brown. Absolutely hideous on my lips. I can't believe that this has been described as a cool or neutral color, so it must really just look completely different on different people. I have light, cool/neutral skin and medium pigmented lips. It looks SO warm on me, and very, very orange. Very disappointed. Also found the texture to be dry and it tugged a lot during application. It was fairly matte and made my lips feel dry.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - A Lab on Fire - What We Do in Paris Is Secret

This is currently my favorite perfume. On me, has the warm sweetness of honey, with a hint of rose and sandalwood behind it.The other notes don't really seem to come out for me. Really, really lovely and not sickly sweet at all. I think this could be worn year round, but I like it best as a fall/winter fragrance. Unfortunately, it doesn't last very long, so I do have to reapply later in the day.

Lipstick -Revlon - Color Stay Ultimate Suede Lipstick

I really don't know how I feel about these. I got Iconic and Supermodel, and they're both really nice colors, but the texture is so odd that I don't know how long I'll be able to stand wearing them. They feel great at first, but after a few minutes they "set" and become very dry and matte. Some lip balm or gloss solves this, but then they don't last as long. And they do last a very long time... I forgot to wash it off and it was still there in the morning. I would like it a lot more if it were one of those double ended long-wearing lipsticks that comes with a balm or gloss on the other end. Make sure you exfoliate well before using these.

Mascara -Jordana - Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara

This mascara looks great, with no flaking, but it runs horribly if my eyes water or if I sweat. I would love this in a waterproof formula. Other than that, it's a great mascara.

Liquid -Yves Saint Laurent - TEINT RESIST Long Wear Transfer Resistant Foundation
rated 5 of 5
mayrei 7/2/2012 11:04:00 AM

I am nw20 at the moment and I wear this in shade 02 Blond. This is a beautiful foundation for summer. I get very oily in the summer, and this foundation has held up better than most anything I've tried. The only thing that has lasted longer for me is Revlon's Colorstay, but it breaks me out horribly. I've also tried Lancome Teint Idole Fresh Wear and Estee Lauder Double Wear Light, which are both very nice foundations, but still didn't last all day for me in the summer. Teint Resist beat them all. It's a sheer coverage, lightweight foundation that evens out your skintone beautifully, but will not hide any major flaws. It's somewhat buildable, but really looks its best with just one layer. I use 3 pumps for my entire face, and apply in in sections with my fingers, since it sets rather quickly. I've found that it applies and blends best over freshly washed skin that is still moist but not wet. It dries to a sort of satin matte finish, but not a dead matte. I like to use Fix+ over it to give it a more dewy look. On me, this foundation will last well into the night as long as I don't mess with my face too much by wiping or blotting. My ONE complaint about this foundation is the pump.... the pump sucks. You can't really really do a half pump or anything, so you get the same amount no matter how much pressure you apply. If they changed the pump so that you had more control with it, it would be a flawless product.

Treatments -Estee Lauder - Advanced Night Repair (Serum)
rated 4 of 5
mayrei 6/30/2011 12:02:00 AM

I am really not sure why I like his serum so much, but at the same time, I feel like I *need* it. I've been using it almost nightly for a few weeks now. I don't exactly see any specific improvements, but I feel like my skin looks fresher and brighter and just... better somehow. Placebo effect? Maybe, but when I don't use it, I notice that my skin looks dull and blah. It seems like a lot of money for skin that looks "generally better", but I think I will have to keep using this. It's just pleasant to use, makes my skin really soft, smells nice, and doesn't irritate my skin or break me out.

Top/Base Coats -Orly - Bonder Rubberized Basecoat
rated 2 of 5
mayrei 6/29/2011 6:55:00 PM

Pretty disappointed with this. I've tried it about 5 or 6 times now, and I haven't noticed that it makes any difference in the life of my nail polish. It works about as well as any other base coat I've tried.

Styling Products -Phyto - Phytodefrisant

I love love love love this stuff. Love. It makes my hair feel light, silky, shiny, and frizz-free. I don't love the price tag, but I think it's worth it. I have long hair that is partially wavy, partially curly, lots of frizz and pouf, lots of heat damage. When I use this, I can blowdry my hair straight in less time and I often don't even bother with my flat iron. It has almost no scent (to me) and doesn't irritate my sensitive skin like so many other hair products do. I typically use about a nickel-sized dollop distributed evenly throughout my hair (which is a couple of inches past my shoulders), with no other products, and that is the perfect amount for bouncy shine. You can use more for more hold, but I find that it weighs the hair down a bit if you use too much.

Lipstick -Maybelline - Color Sensational High Shine
rated 4 of 5
mayrei 6/29/2011 1:29:00 PM

I bought this in Lacquered Brown. I'm happy with the staying power and sheen of this lipstick, but Lacquered Brown ended up being way too dark and, well... brown. My own fault I guess, but I was really hoping it would be more sheer. It's a nice color, but not on me. It's brown with a plum tinge, and if I apply two layers of it it basically looks like a cocoa colored 90s style brown lipstick. If I layer it over gloss or lip balm, it looks much more sheer and plummy/mauve. This would look great on darker skintones.

Hair Styling Tools -Goody - Spin Pin
rated 5 of 5
mayrei 6/29/2011 1:21:00 PM

I bought a pair of these yesterday on my way to work. I put them in without a mirror and didn't get to see how it looked until hours later. I was pretty amazed... I have trouble getting buns to look good, especially if I can't see what I'm doing, but my hair looked exactly the way I wanted. I thought these were too expensive when I bought them, but I think considering how well they work, they're worth it. Also, I usually have a problem with elastic bands and clips leaving a dent in my hair whenever I do any sort of updo, but when I took the Spin Pins out hours later, I just have some nice waves in my hair and no dents.

Lipstick -MAC - Naked Paris
rated 5 of 5
mayrei 4/14/2011 5:53:00 PM

I hope they re-release this at some point. It's my favorite MAC lipstick so far, and my current choice for a regular everyday lipstick. My favorite lipstick of all time is Dior Addict in Spotlight (formerly known as Addict High Shine in Chestnut Chic), but the Dior is out of my price range. Naked Paris is a pretty good dupe. It's a shimmery, sheer plum-pink with a hint of brown to keep it low key. I feel like MAC lipsticks could stand to be a bit more moisturizing, but I can live with it. Overall I think this is a great lipstick.

Treatments (Eye) -Marcelle - Hydra-C ComplexE Eye Contour Gel-Cream
rated 5 of 5
mayrei 2/11/2011 1:56:00 PM

This is now my favorite eye cream. I've been using it for a couple of months now, and it's helped my under-eye area so much. I was having problems with puffiness and crepey skin under my eyes. I was using a very expensive under-eye treatment that wasn't doing a thing for me. I decided to try this after reading the reviews and seeing how inexpensive it was. I'm glad I did. It really helps with puffiness and it really seems to moisturize well. Fine lines are almost totally gone when I'm using the cream. They do creep back in if I don't use it for a few days. There may be drugstore brands available in the US that work as well, but I haven't found them yet. The only problem is, this is hard to find if you don't live in Canada. Sometimes it's available on eBay, but not always, so I have to keep an eye out for it.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Dermactin-TS Collagen Filler Wrinkle Reducer
rated 1 of 5
mayrei 9/13/2010 4:27:00 PM

I bought the Collagen Filler Wrinkle Reducer, and it didn't do a thing for me. I think that some of the reviews for this brand must be for different products, but I know at least a couple of the reviews were for this item. There are several products under the Dermactin-ts brand, so I wish some of these reviews had been a little more specific about which item they were reviewing. ------- The biggest problem I have with this cream is that it is VERY thick. Like a soft paste. It's impossible to apply directly from the tube, as the product instructions suggest, and I have to actually apply it to the back of my hand and rub it around to warm it up. I even had to cut the tip of the tube nozzle to make the hole larger, because I hard to squeeze it very hard to get even a tiny amount out of the tube. Once the product is warmed up on the back of my hand, it is a little easier to apply, but still not that great. It's difficult to apply without tugging on the skin a little, and obviously that's just going to make matters worse. On top of that, it seems to actually enhance the fine lines under my eyes, making them look deeper! Not only THAT, but it was also a disaster to apply undereye concealer over it, and it did absolutely nothing for puffiness. ---------- The undereye area is just too delicate for something like this, but I actually tried it as a primer on other parts of my face and it did fairly well. It makes a decent pore filler on my nose and forehead, so I will continue to use it for that purpose and keep it AWAY from my eyes.

Tinted Moisturizer -Laura Mercier - Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20
rated 2 of 5
mayrei 8/23/2010 12:10:00 PM

I just can't find anything to like about this product. I got a deluxe sample and have worn it several times over the last couple of weeks, and it does absolutely nothing for me. It doesn't look bad, it just doesn't look like anything. I got this in the Nude shade, and it matches my light complexion just fine, but it just looks like I have moisturizer on and nothing else. It didn't do anything to even out my skin tone, even out redness, or cover spots. If you had perfect skin, this would look fine... but if your skin is perfect, why wear anything at all? In my opinion, a BB cream (which is basically a tinted moisturizer) would be a much better option than this, because at least BB creams provide some coverage while still looking/feeling light and natural.

Liquid -Lancome - Teint Idole Fresh Wear
rated 4 of 5
mayrei 7/7/2010 12:53:00 PM

------------------ UPDATE: A few weeks later, I am now really liking this foundation. I found the best way to apply was really just with fingers, applied immediately after moisturizer. A THIN layer blended out quickly and it looks perfect. I basically had to apply to one section of my face at a time because this dries pretty quickly as you're blending it out, and had to be careful not to over-apply because that's what was making my pores look so bad under this. I would say this is slightly buildable foundation, but you really have to be careful not to overdo it. As for holding up in the hot weather, it does a very good job and I haven't had any problem with it melting under sweat and heat. It lasts at least 8 hours for me with no blotting. ------------- Original review: I'm trying to make this foundation work for me, and so I refuse to return it because I want to like it! I really wanted something that felt and looked lightweight, but that lasted all day and gave me a matte finish. This delivers on those promises, but makes my skin look TERRIBLE. So far... it emphasizes every tiny imperfection on my face, regardless of application method or what I put on my face beforehand. You can see my pores from across the room when I wear this stuff. Very frustrating, because it's so nice otherwise. I'm going to experiment with primers and application methods and will update this if I find a way to make it look better.
