Lipstick -Revlon - Matte Lipstick - Nude Attitude

I got this due to the recommendation of a youtuber a few years back and I hated it. You're better off wearing concealer on your lips, especially if its a liquid concealer. This sits on the crevices of your lips and make them look so bad, even after you exfoliate! Do not get this; save your money and get another nude lipstick.

Palettes -Urban Decay - Urban Ammo Eye Palette
rated 4 of 5
mar559 4/20/2011 11:43:00 AM

This was the first UD product I purchased (and then my obsession began). I liked it when I first got it but I hated the fallout! I ended up favoring only a few of the colors in this palette (smog, mildew, sin, last call) and really did not like the rest. Since I've acquired a lot of those colors in other palettes, I decided to give this palette to my mom - even though she hardly uses it. I like that it is small and flat, making it convenient to take on trips, but feel that half of the colors are impossible to work with. Def won't repurchase but it was a nice initiation into the UD family.

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - Smog

I have this color in 2 palettes (ammo and naked). I love this color BUT I think the smog color in ammo is different from the smog color in naked. both are beautiful, but i prefer the smog in ammo. At first I thought this was just me, but then I noticed another inconsistency with Twice Baked (in a summer palette and the Alice in Wonderland palette) where one is much less pigmented than the other. I would consider repurchasing the single, but I have so much that I don't know if I would. Plus, I would probably try to find it in another palette instead of buying it on its own. Beautiful color as an all over lid or crease - with black liner it really brings out brown eyes! Love!

Makeup Brushes -Essence of Beauty - Crease
rated 5 of 5
mar559 4/15/2011 3:12:00 PM

These were some of my first makeup brushes and now that I have acquired a large variety, I still use these on a daily basis. I absolutely love love love this brushes and recommend them, even if you're a high-end brush user. The smaller brush I use to smudge my lower lashline color and sometimes will also use to smudge my upper lashline color. Sometimes I even use it to back on the color on the lower half of my lid when I do a smokey eye. I use the bigger brush to concentrate darker colors right in my crease (which I then blend with a Sigma SS217). I would definitely repurchase these, especially since they kind of remind me of the bobbi brown brushes. If I ever lost them, no doubt I would immediately repurchase. I think you can find them at CVS but am unsure if you can find them elsewhere.

Lipstick -MAC - Velvet Teddy
rated 1 of 5
mar559 4/14/2011 11:37:00 PM

i hate ruining the good reviews this has received but I don't like this lipstick. I bought this after all the great reviews. I tried it at the store and I knew it didn't look good but I still bought it hoping I could make it work. No - it was too cool for me. I'm an NC 40/42 with very warm olive tones and somewhat pigmented lips. I returned this and the MUA was surprised that it didn't work for me. I exchanged it for Mac Mocha, which is LOVE. I'm sure it works better for others, just not me.

Scrubs -LUSH - Ocean Salt
rated 4 of 5
mar559 4/14/2011 11:16:00 PM

I think this product is great - but only if you use it right. It is a little harsh on some skin types. I only use this once (maybe twice) a week on my face along with a creamier cleanser in order to saturate the grains and not be as harsh. I also sometimes put a little in my hand, dilute the grains a little, then softly rub it on my face. Upon Michele1218's recommendation, I use this with my clarisonic, which is amazing! My skin looks really healthy since I began using this (along w/ other products). I would repurchase this but the smaller tub since it takes me forever to use up. Love!

Concealers -MAC - Select Moisturecover
rated 4 of 5
mar559 4/14/2011 11:07:00 PM

I think this is an ok product. This was my first undereye concelear. I was looking for something that would not dry my undereye area and the MUA recommended this for me. My only gripe is that I'm an NC40/42 and got this in NC 42, which covered my circles but did not brighten them. I also did not like that the formula is so thin that if you attempt to layer too much, it will cake up! So you have to be very careful. Further, if you don't set this, it will not last (at least in my experience). I've been trying two other concealers that I think are a little better, but I still use this when I'm in a hurry because it is so easy to blend. I would potentially repurchase this if I could find a color that will not only conceal but also brighten.

Lipstick -MAC - Mocha
rated 5 of 5
mar559 4/14/2011 10:59:00 PM

HG lipstick! This looks like a warm, brown peachy color on my NC 40/42. Sometimes I'll wear Freckletone on top of this to make it look a little brighter and peachier. The color is pretty opaque and creamy; I don't feel like it dries out my lips at all. I use this as an everyday color when I don't want to or can't wear brighter colors. I really recommend this color to all olive/tan skinned girls - it's sophisticated and beautiful IMO. Will repurchase as soon as I run out!

Pressed Powders -MAC - Mineralize Skinfinish Natural - Medium Dark
rated 4 of 5
mar559 4/14/2011 10:55:00 PM

I didn't like this at first because it didn't give me enough coverage (or it would but it would look cakey on my dry skin). The MUA told me that I could get more coverage if I sprayed fix+ on my brush, dipped the brush in the compact and then apply. BAD ADVICE, it hardened a layer of my MSF. I ended up having to scrape off the first layer (which didn't wast too much product but was annoying). After that I just didn't know how to use it beyond using my Sigma F82 and getting decent coverage. However, I've lately been using it as a light setting powder under light liquid foundation with a Sigma's blush brush - this not only sets my foundation but gives me just enough coverage w/o looking cakey at all. It makes my makeup last all day! I'm glad I found a way to use it - I'm satisfied. I would possibly repurchase if I don't find something better.

Polishes -Essie - Mademoiselle
rated 5 of 5

I really enjoy wearing this when I have to go to court or need to look professional. I think it makes my nails look super clean and sophisticated. I usually prefer fun, trendy colors but this is a classic that everyone must have. For the longest time I didn't want to get it because it looked so plain - but it works! I use 3 coats and Essie's Top Coat. This did not chip at all (I had it on for 4 days before I got bored and changed colors). Get it!

Highlighters -NARS - Highlighting Blush Powder in Albatross
rated 4 of 5
mar559 4/14/2011 10:34:00 PM

I wear this just about everyday. I know its expensive for a highlighter, but it will last forever. I have barely barely made a dent on one corner, and I've had this for about 8 months. Sometimes it looks stark on my skin but I make sure to fully blend on my cheekbones. I've been using Sigmas small tapered brush which works great for highlighting. NC40-42 for reference.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Eyeshadow - Saddle
rated 5 of 5
mar559 4/6/2011 8:13:00 PM

One of my first mac e/s and I love it. I have very warm undertones and love this. I like to use to when warming up an eyeshadow (satin taupe, sable, etc) and to contour. I can see how this can make some people look too orange but this worked for me. NC 35-40 for reference. Will repurchase!

Eye Shadow -MAC - Naked Lunch
rated 1 of 5
mar559 4/6/2011 8:10:00 PM

I don't get this color. I bought per a recommendation as a "must-have" but I don't get it. I'm NC 35-40 and this looks weird on my skin. It looks funny all over the lid and sometimes works as an inner tear duct color. On pictures, this looks SO bad on me. I don't even touch it anymore (i've used it maybe like 3x). I don't know if I should just swap this or if I should keep trying to make it work... will not repurchase

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - X eye shadow
rated 5 of 5
mar559 4/6/2011 8:07:00 PM

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! This was probably one of the first e/s I almost hit pan within the first month of getting it! I'll buy it in pan form when I run out (it's in the alice in wonderland palette). SO pretty - it brightens up your eyes beautifully and looks great against the sun during the summer. I wear this all over the lid on its own and then line with brown gel liner, use mascara and i'm out the door! One of the more unique colors I own.

Moisturizers -Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
rated 5 of 5
mar559 4/6/2011 8:02:00 PM

I've been using this for 4 years. I know you're suppose to change your moisturizer ever so often, but I always come back to this, ITS AMAZING. I have normal to dry skin and this does wonders for me. I also feel this helped clear my skin because of all the moisture it added (having too dry skin and not moisturizing can also cause breakouts). I went to sephora to buy a heavier moisturizer because of the harsh winters in NY. I told her i'd been using DDML for years and she scolded me for not changing up my moisturizer more often! So I caved and bought another one...but after two weeks, I returned to my clinique. I use it twice every day and liberally - it lasts me about 6-7 months. My brother has oily, very acne-prone skin and hated this because it made him look way too oily....so maybe it wont' work for all skin types. I will continue to use this until it no longer works for me, which at this rate seems like it will never happen!
