Treatments -Dove - Elixir

I just realised that there are 3 variants of this. I used the one for Hair Loss. This is touted as a leave-in treatment to replace the Indian tradition of champi, which is a deep conditioning treatment involving massaging the scalp with oil (usually coconut oil) and washing it off after a couple of hours. However, I used it as a much-needed AFTER wash treatment for my hyper dry, curly and frizzy hair and it worked great as a conditioning product - quite as well as Moroccanoil but at a fraction of the cost so I felt free to apply liberally. I am not sure about reducing hair loss - that's something that can't be observed within such a short period of time. It doesn't have much of a fragrance, not a bad thing on its own but I do love Moroccanoil's fragrance. I think this is great value for money. It really looks like an expensive product with it's light pink colour and even has some rose petals and leaves in the mix. It has a pump dispenser. I think a downward facing spout would work better but that's a small thing. Unfortunately, I think it's only available in India.

Sunscreen -Peter Thomas Roth - Oily Problem Skin Instant Mineral SPF 30
rated 2 of 5
maliciousdelicious 3/14/2013 8:13:00 AM

I love the concept of a physical sunscreen that mattifies my oily skin, and that I don't have to wait for it to activate (unlike chemical sunscreens). Unfortunately, I found that this blocked my pores and caused more problems than solutions for my oily problem skin. I have almost given up using powders on my skin, even finely milled ones, as they always seem to block pores. Apart from that, it's quite easy to use and is not visible on my dark skin. However: - I went to Goa for a holiday and I felt that the sea breeze was pretty much blowing the powder off my skin - When I got it in the mail, a lot of powder had spilled out into the cover so it's not the best packaging - You can't tell how much is left

Hair Styling Tools -Goody - Spin Pin - Brunette
rated 5 of 5

Not sure why there are separate review sections for the colours but anyway... I have frizzy, knotty, incredibly difficult hair so I anticipated some problems in getting these pins to spin in. Lo and behold. I can't believe how easy it was to get them in and out, and how secure and comfortable they feel, unlike hair clips that are tight, pull your hair and also easily visible. I have yet to try this on other styles apart from a high bun, but since this is my usual style, I'm quite happy even with this.

Moisturizers -La Mer - Creme de la mer moisturizer
rated 1 of 5

Produce a normal cream and slap an incredibly high price on it plus give it a captivating backstory. That's La Mer for you. They haven't even bothered to put it in a nice jar. This did nothing a drugstore moisturizer (like the classic Ponds cold cream) couldn't do and even the fragrance was cheap and ordinary.

Scrubs -LUSH - Ocean Salt
rated 3 of 5

This product does exfoliate thoroughly but it's also kind of harsh. The smell is not unpleasant but it's very strong. While the immediate result is that it makes you look fresher, cleaner and brighter, I believe harsh exfoliants can exacerbate acne so I've stopped using them on my face. Gentle exfoliation is all you need. I would use this on my scaly legs and feet though. The product wouldn't last long this way though, which makes it kind of pricey, at least in India.

Eye Primer -Etude - Proof 10 Eye Primer
rated 3 of 5
maliciousdelicious 1/31/2013 12:28:00 PM

Firstly, the instructions say that you should apply with your finger, but the product has quite a decent applicator. On my dark, highly pigmented oily lids, this went on in quite a light shade. After I applied the shadow, the effect wasn't as dramatic as I hoped it would be. I can imagine the amount wouldn't last long for a regular eye make-up wearer but for a very occasional make-up wearer, it's fine.

Makeup Brushes -MAC - 266 Thin Small Angle (Synthetic hair)
rated 4 of 5

I had no idea when I bought this brush that it was for brows which I don't really need. I use it for blending shadow and it does quite a decent job but I'm not sure I would have bought it just for that purpose.

Fragrances -Davidoff - Cool Water Wave Woman
rated 3 of 5

This smell was too heavy. I don't see why everyone is so crazy about Cool Water - maybe Woman is very different from the original. Gotta swap!

Treatments (Eye) -Unlisted Brand - hylexin

I am Indian and have the usual dark circle problem. This actually does help and only after a couple of uses. However, anything I apply around my delicate eye area makes it feel heavy and eventually gives me a headache. Gotta swap!

I find this scent too strong and heavy. I also don't smell Jasmine. Got it as a Valentine's Day but I'm not sentimental. Will have to swap!

Skincare - Face -Unlisted Brand - Turmeric
rated 5 of 5
maliciousdelicious 1/31/2013 11:17:00 AM

This is supposed to have anti-septic properties but I generally use it to fade acne scars. I mix it with chick pea flour and water but you can use it with either milk / lime juice or honey depending on your skin type. Then I apply it as a mask and wait till it's completely dry. I rinse it lightly so that the mask becomes grainy and gently slough my skin of dead cells. It leaves my skin glowing, clearer and is absolutely natural. I'm Indian so the turmeric barely stains my skin, but fairer folks might like to tone down the turmeric just a bit. Either way, the stain wears off after a few washes.

Primer/ Corrector -MAC - Prep + Prime Fortified Skin Enhancer - Recharge
rated 2 of 5
maliciousdelicious 1/31/2013 6:53:00 AM

I think this product is better suited to darker skins, especially South Asian skins which can have a lot of dark spots. It is quite orange which is supposed to neutralise the blue base of dark circles. Anyway, I thought this would be my HG product - it has a great texture and colour, gives a dewy finish, and also has SPF 35 while giving a sheer coverage. However, it breaks me out! I could tell as soon as I returned home after the SA had applied it. I wish I had waited before purchasing it. I tried it once more when I got home but the same result. I have very cloggable pores. You can check my swap list for this item!

Cleansers -Nuxe - Micellar Cleansing Water with 3 Roses (Eau Demaquillante Micellaire aux 3 Roses)
rated 3 of 5
maliciousdelicious 1/31/2013 6:12:00 AM

I was lucky to get this as part of a Nuxe sample set. While I love the dry oil, this cleanser is not amazing. It feels like it may be better on dry skin. I would only use it to remove make-up or sunscreen, and then follow again with another cleanser. The rose scent is lovely though.
