I originally tried this back in 2007. I liked it then, but ultimately stopped using it because the dish it came in didn't let the water drain away from the soap, leaving it really squishy and gunky on the bottom. I also seem to remember it made my cheeks a little dry. I've recently bought a new bar, and the dish has holes to allow water to drain away from the bar which is perfect. So, I've been using this twice a day and it works really well for me. I use L'Oreal's Hydrafresh toner after this, and the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel and my skin is smooth, comfortable and glowing. For a 5.2 oz. bar, the price is great because I can see this lasting for months!
Top/Base Coats -Sally Hansen - Double Duty Base & Top Coat
madmargeS 1/20/2013 7:28:00 PM
I tried this as a base coat and top coat for the first time today. I applied this, two coats of polish, and then one last coat of this. Three hours later, it's chipping and flaking off. It dries quickly as a base coat, and polish applies well over it. As a top coat, it's terrible! I didn't do anything rough on my hands, and my polish is just chipping off! I'll try something else from a better brand.
Cleansers -Clean & Clear - Foaming Facial Cleanser - Sensitive Skin
madmargeS 10/6/2012 12:05:00 PM
I've tried so many face washes over the years, and I think I've finally found my "holy grail"! I have combination skin with occasional blemishes. I've used this for two weeks now, and my skin just looks so much better! This cleanser foams well, removes makeup (including eye makeup, without irritating my eyes at all!), and rinses cleanly. After use, my face feels soft and comfortable. I don't need moisturizer after this, which is a change from other foaming cleansers I've used before. I love that the pump locks closed, too. I'll continue buying this great product!
I finally got around to trying this toner. It was around $11 at Target. They've recently changed the packaging so it's now in a plastic bottle instead of the glass (I added a picture above). This toner smells lightly of roses, doesn't burn or sting my combination skin, and leaves my face feeling soft and refreshed. It doesn't leave a sticky residue like other toners I've tried, and dries pretty quickly. The smell doesn't seem to linger too long. Overall, refreshing, especially in the summer! I might buy this again, but I'll try making my own next.
Lipstick -Revlon - Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain - Honey
madmargeS 6/3/2012 12:37:00 PM
I'm pale, with fairly pigmented lips to start with. This color ends up being a pink/mauve, which looks a little different than my normal lip color. It's smooth, glossy and tastes minty at first. I'm not sure how well this shade stains my lips but it moisturizes very well for me- I wore this last night, removed it, did not use balm, and my lips feels smooth and soft today. I plan to stock up on this shade- it's perfect for a "natural" makeup look!
Moisturizers -Cerave - Facial Moisturizing Lotion - AM SPF 30
madmargeS 5/18/2012 2:17:00 PM
I bought this lotion after I used up all of my Eucerin SPF 30 lotion. I have combination skin, which usually gets oilier in the warmer months, and occasional acne. Since using this product, my skin has turned dry and flaky, and broken out more than I've seen in years. I did like that it's a thick product which absorbs quickly, has a locking pump bottle, doesn't have a scent that I noticed. It just doesn't agree with my skin! I won't be buying this product again!
Shampoo -TRESemme - Naturals Nourishing Moisture Shampoo
madmargeS 5/11/2012 9:13:00 PM
I tried this shampoo, and the matching conditioner because I wanted to try more "natural" products. I find this shampoo to be average quality. It smells a bit like citrus to me, is nice and thick, so I don't need much at one time. I hated the conditioner, so I probably won't buy this again, because I like my hair products to match. Not a bad value for the amount you get, but not my preference.
Conditioner -TRESemme - Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner
madmargeS 5/11/2012 9:07:00 PM
I've recently gotten on the "natural" bandwagon, so I tried this conditioner and the matching shampoo. I've used Tresemme off and on for years, but hands-down this is THE WORST product I've used from them! I have naturally curly hair which is fine textured, and this conditioner leaves my hair a tangled, frizzy mess! It smells fine to me, but I need more moisture than this product provides. I'll stick with Tresemme's Moisture Rich or Flawless Curls line!
Cleansers -Boots - expert sensitive gentle cleansing wash
madmargeS 11/5/2011 5:29:00 PM
I have combination skin, usually accompanied by at least one or two pimples. After my old cleanser stopped working for me (Clearasil Oil Free wash with salicylic acid), I picked this up. I use one pump to clean my face every night. I've been using this for a month now, and my skin looks great! It's a little drying now that it's colder out, but that's nothing a little lotion can't fix. I really think that my pimples were due to using products that were too harsh. It's readily available, fragrance free, and a great value! I'll keep buying Boots Expert!
Gels/Soaps -Philosophy - Vanilla Birthday Cake 3-in-1
madmargeS 10/18/2011 11:05:00 PM
I got the free 6oz. birthday gift from Sephora. I agree with some of the other reviewers that it doesn't smell like birthday cake, or even a really true vanilla (at least to my nose!). However, it doesn't smell terrible. I actually used it on my hair and it worked just fine (I have naturally curly hair). As far as my skin is concerned it's a little drying. Not bad for a free product but I wouldn't pay for it.
I'm writing about the new formula with salicylic acid in it. I have combination skin which breaks out occasionally. This wash is thick, creamy, and easy to rinse. It doesn't dry out my skin at all, and does control my mild-to-moderate acne. It smells strange (almost a citrusy menthol) but I got used to it. I actually used up a whole tube. My only complaint is that it was difficult for me to get the last little bit out of the tube. It's cheap and it works for my skin, so I'll deal with a little packaging inconvenience!
Conditioner -Biosilk - biosilk fruit cocktail reconstructing treatment
madmargeS 8/5/2011 10:31:00 AM
I bought this at a discount retail store, so the price wasn't an issue. That's the only positive thing I have to say about this stuff. It smells like artificially sweet fruity bubblegum to me. I just used it for the first time today and it's already in the trash. Smell aside, it didn't do a wonderful job of conditioning or detangling my curly shoulder-length hair. I've had better results from drugstore conditioners and treatments. Don't waste your money on this product!
I've been dying my hair at home off and on for the past 6 or so years. This was my first attempt after a while of not coloring. I used 4RB, Dark Reddish Brown. I mixed this until it couldn't mix any more. It didn't come out as a foam at first, just very runny. When it finally did foam, it was easy to spread through my hair. However, it got all over my skin, even worse than the traditional drippy liquid hair color I've used in the past. It smelled pretty offensive while coloring, and as other reviewers have stated, it made my scalp a little itchy (which hasn't happened to me before). The color looks nice, and it didn't get all over my towels or anything. Next time I'm trying a creme formula to see if that might not make such a mess on my skin! I'm glad I got this for free with a coupon, because it's not worth your money if you pay for it!
I bought this because it said it would moisturize while still feeling sheer on the skin. It works better than I expected to! It absorbs almost instantly, has a soft, fresh scent and actually provides moisture that lasts a full 24 hours. I didn't notice the mica until about the 3rd time I used it- it's subtle, like others have said. I'd buy it again, but Olay has replaced it with their Quench Daily Lotion. When I use this up, I'll try that one.
Lip Gloss -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Slicks Lip Gloss- 565C
madmargeS 2/12/2011 5:17:00 PM
I bought this without reading the other review, hoping it would provide at least some color. It's a very bright magenta in the tube. However, it provides no color payoff when applied, only shine. It feels nice on the lips but I won't buy again considering it shows up clear.
