Mascara -Essence - I Love Extreme - Volume Mascara
rated 1 of 5
lygophilia 5/23/2013 7:05:00 PM

This mascara didn't impress me or meet my personal taste on how I like my lashes to look. It did add volume, but left my lashes looking stumpy & clumpy. It also flakes like crazy and leaves me with irritated raccoon eyes. Finally, even though I knew this when I purchased this mascara, it is not available in a sealed package, therefore you never really know if it's been opened previously. I have and love many Essence products, but there mascaras I will not be buying again for safety and hygienic reasons.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - EXTRA VIRGIN Coconut Oil (All brands)
rated 5 of 5
lygophilia 5/23/2013 3:45:00 PM

I joined the coconut oil party a little late, but after finishing off my first tub and repurchasing another I have to say this product is simply awesome for me. Great, gentle, inexpensive, and versatile product to use for adding hydration and moisture to my skin and hair. Love using it as a weekly hair mask, applying it as a nightly lip balm, or using it as a moisturizer for dry areas on my face or body.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Motif eyeshadow
rated 5 of 5
lygophilia 5/23/2013 3:34:00 PM

Absolutely love Motif and it's become one of my many fave eye shadows to wear recently paired with a bright & bold pink, orange, or coral lip. Motif adds that beautiful and interesting touch on the lid without clashing or looking over down when paired with a brighter lip. Motif looks like a boring neutral in the pan, but once applied it takes on a life with a duochrome golden peachy-pink finish. Love pairing it with either Moleskin, Kid, Wedge, Malt, or Soft Brown in the crease, add a little Cork, Down Brown, or Saddle in the V to deepen it and Blanc Type or Vanilla on the brow bone for a neutral and easy eye.

Lipstick -MAC - Mineralize Rich Lipstick - Style Surge
rated 5 of 5
lygophilia 5/23/2013 3:13:00 PM

I love MAC's lipsticks so when I heard they were expanding their lipstick collection to include a Mineralize Rich, I instantly got excited and added a few on my list to purchase. MAC describes Style Surge as a neutral coral cream and the shade appears on my lips as a pigmented light peachy-coral with a glossy finish. The formula definitely feels very light, hydrating, creamy, and comfortable. The wear time is average for me, but the formula leaves my lips feeling so soft, hydrated, and conditioned that I can only compare it to like wearing a really good quality lip balm with the added bonus of opaque colour. The price for this lipstick is more compared to regular MAC lipsticks, but for the added price you are receiving more product in a large bullet packaging. Mineralize Rich Lipstick contains 3.6g/0.12oz of product, compared to a regular MAC lipstick that contains 3g/0.1oz of product. Would I repurchase this shade? Absolutely as I love corals/oranges and the formula is absolutely devine.

Liquid -Neutrogena - Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup SPF 20
rated 4 of 5
lygophilia 5/23/2013 2:06:00 PM

I purchased the lightest shade available in Classic Ivory and sadly I found the shade to be a little to dark for me, for reference I wear MAC NC15 or Matchmaster shade 1. On the positive side this foundation has a silky texture that blends easily onto the skin, provides light coverage, and sets to a glowy - satiny finish. Wear time on my combo skin is good and it lasts all day with diligent blotting and powdering for shine control on my oilier t-zone. The con, besides the lack of a good colour match is the packaging. This foundation is very fluid and without a pump it can get messy. Sadly I wasn't comfortable with the shade match and I gifted it to another person who loves it entirely.

Lipstick -MAC - So Chaud
rated 5 of 5
lygophilia 5/22/2013 12:36:00 PM

I'm obsessed with rocking orange lips for the past year and this lipstick does not disappoint. This shade is bright, bold, and a great way to rock an orange lip when you don't want a full on orange, but a slightly softer and more wearable colour thanks to the red undertone. The formula is creamy, smooth, and has a matte finish. With the matte finish I always ensure my lips are properly pampered with exfoliation and hydration to avoid the cracked, patchy, and dehydrated lip appearance that mattes can enhance. Wear time is fantastic too.

Misc Beauty Tools -beautyblender - the sponge
rated 5 of 5
lygophilia 5/12/2013 4:33:00 AM

This is the best tool I've ever purchased for foundation application and beats any brush, fingers, or sponge hands down for me. It's simple to use, cuts application time in half, and provides me with a flawless results each time with any of my fave foundations. The product is great quality, durable, and washes easily. Love it and after using this I'll probably never go back to any other application method again. I've already purchased a back up and a few for gifts for my friends and family.

Moisturizers -Shi Kai - Borage Dry Skin Therapy 24-Hour Repair Facial Cream
rated 1 of 5
lygophilia 5/12/2013 4:16:00 AM

This was an ok product for hydration, but the biggest draw back for me was the scent. The smell reminds me of wet dirt and forest, which isn't appealing to me. Honestly the scent was so off putting that I had to toss it out.

Treatments -SkinMedica - Tri-Retinol Complex ES
rated 5 of 5
lygophilia 5/12/2013 4:12:00 AM

I've been using and loving Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Intensive Night Cream for a few years now and felt ready to try something a little stronger that wouldn't require a prescription. After much research and trials of other retinol skin care items this product came out as the perfect product for me, my skin, and the results I wanted to achieve. I'm already on my second bottle and I've seen wonderful results and received many compliments on my skin and how young I look for my age. Granted I do believe that you require more then just retinol to have great skin, but by switching my retinol product to this one I have noticed an improvement in my fine lines and my skin's texture, clarity, and glow. The down side to this product is the price of $80 for 1 fl oz., but I'm willing to invest this money into myself.

Polishes -Wet 'n' Wild - Fergie - Glamorous
rated 2 of 5
lygophilia 5/12/2013 3:51:00 AM

This isn't a bad polish, but not the best I've tried. The formula is thick and goopy making application cumbersome, the glitter is scarce, and drying time takes forever. With patience and multiple coats it looks good, but there are better quality glitter polishes I would prefer to try and invest in then repurchase this one again.

Blush -Essence - Vintage District - It's Popul-Art
rated 5 of 5
lygophilia 5/9/2013 2:45:00 PM

Stumbled across this limited edition collection displayed at Shoppers Drug Mart in February of this year. The blush instantly caught my eye with the gold Fleur-de-Lis pattern and I immediately grabbed it on the spot. I paid $3.99 and for the price you receive an very hefty generous amount of 9g/0.31oz. The gold Fleur-de-Lis is just an overspray and removes easily in a few swipes to reveal a dusky reddish pink shade, with the bottom base shade being a medium peach. When the two colours are swirled together they combine to form a beautiful medium peachy pink colour. The pigmentation is excellent, texture smooth and creamy, and once all the gold overspray has been removed there is no further glitter, but a satiny finish blush. Departs a luminous glow on the cheeks and pairs harmoniously with many peach, coral, and orange lipsticks in my collection. I fell in love with this blush and did return to purchase one more for a friend that I knew would love it too. Sadly the downside of this blush is being limited edition.

Concealers -Bare Escentuals - Stroke of LIght
rated 1 of 5
lygophilia 5/9/2013 12:59:00 AM

I purchased a travel size sample of this product in the lightest shade Luminous 1 - fair/pink as I thought it would be a great product to use as a corrector. After many attempts to get this product to work for me, I finally gave up and tossed it out. The formula is initially creamy and blends nicely, but after a few minutes it becomes very powdery/chalky and looks terrible under the eyes, despite moisturizing and prepping my under eye skin. Doesn't play nice and work with any concealers applied over top as it gets gummy and chunky. Coverage is quite sheer too. Personally I'll stick with the pink toned correctors I have in my collection that work far superior to this BE product, including Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch in Radiant, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles in Brightener, Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat No 1, and MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter Pen in Radiant Rose.

Concealers -Essence - Stay All Day Long Lasting Concealer
rated 4 of 5
lygophilia 5/9/2013 12:38:00 AM

I purchased this concealer in the lightest of the two shades available in 10 Natural Beige for $3.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart. For the price you get 7ml/0.23oz provided in tube packaging with a doe foot applicator. The shade is a perfect neutral match to my complexion, for reference I wear MAC NC15 or Matchmaster 1. The formula is very creamy, blends effortlessly, provides light to medium coverage, can be layered for extra coverage without looking heavy or cakey, sets to a satiny matte finish without any obvious shimmer, feels comfortable under the eyes without feeling and/or looking dry, and doesn't budge or settle into fine lines/creases under my eyes. The cons are this concealers inability to conceal blemishes and 16 hour wear time claim. I find the satiny matte finish draws attention to that blemish area and I personally prefer a matte yellow toned concealer for that task. In addition this doesn't last 16 hours as claimed as I tried it, but more around 7 to 8 before fading is evident, but seriously I think that's pretty impressive time. Honestly I bought this and completely forgot about it, but I finally got around to giving this a go and I'm seriously impressed by this concealer. This product has found it's place of great concealers I've tried and would repurchase, plus it's inexpensive and the product amount is generous when I started comparing it to others I have and love in my collection. It's truly a gem product in the Essence make-up line and if you are lucky enough to match either of the two pale shades available (10 Natural Beige or 20 Soft Beige), I would suggest giving this a try.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Geo PInk
rated 5 of 5
lygophilia 5/5/2013 12:45:00 PM

Very deceptive name as it's not pink at all, but coral with an orange undertone and golden shimmer. The formula isn't sticky, feels moisturizing, great pigmentation, and pairs beautifully with many coral shades of lipsticks in my collection. If re-promoted I would repurchase as I love corals and the Cremesheen formula is so comfortable to wear on the lips.

Lipstick -MAC - Costa Chic
rated 5 of 5
lygophilia 5/5/2013 12:33:00 PM

I love coral lipsticks, but I was skeptical of purchasing Costa Chic as I'm not a huge fan of frost finish lipsticks. I'm pleasantly surprised by this purchase and absolutely love this lipstick. It's a bright, vibrant, and a cheerful shade of coral that leans a little bit more pink on my lips/complexion. Formula is creamy, opaque, and the frost finish is subtle without looking garish.
