Scrubs -GLAMGLOW - Mud Mask
lulu2222 2/23/2013 3:48:00 PM
This review is for the GlamGlow Super Mud in the white jar. I was so impressed by a newspaper review that I bought the product at Sephora. I applied it to my senior citizen dry thin skin and washed it off after 15 minutes. I did not look radiant - as the jar indicated I would. The product is very very drying. I did not experience any redness or soreness - just dried out forehead and cheek skin. However, I have found a good reason to use it - on the sides of my nose where I have always been bothered by the sight of pores. Every seven days, I apply it only to the sides of my nose, leave it on for 15 minutes, wash it off and dry my nose. The I wrap a facial tissue around one of my fingers and run it over the sides of my nose. Yellow glop comes out on the tissue. My nose then looks like it has no pores. At this rate, the jar will last me a long long time so I did not rate it as expensive.

Primer/ Corrector -L'Oreal - Revitalift Miracle Blur
lulu2222 2/22/2013 9:24:00 AM
I normally use a Smashbox primer with SPF15 and this product won't replace it. I bought it just out of sheer curiosity after using the ELLE magazine sample. But I have found a use for it. After I have finished dressing, I put a bit on the back of my hands. It does hide a bit of my senior citizen spots and I figure the SPF30 helps prevent more.

Primer/ Corrector -Smashbox - Photo Finish Primer SPF 15 with Dermaxyl
lulu2222 12/16/2012 3:33:00 PM
I really like this product but it does seem pricey. However, this morning I was squeezing the last (I thought) out of the plastic packet and I decided to cut the packet in half. It is amazing how much product remained in the packet. I'm sure I have another week's supply left. I gave the packaging a 3 but in a way it is a 1. Surely the user isn't expected to cut the packet in half.

Treatments -Pantene - Expert Collection Age Defy Advanced Thickening Treatment
lulu2222 11/25/2012 5:12:00 PM
I read the reviews on this site and went right out to my local CVS and bought AgeDefy Advanced Thickening Treatment. I used it on dry hair for two days and could see no discernible difference in my hair. Today, I shampooed with my Matrix shampoo and conditioner (and I'm not switching to Pantene as I like Matrix). I used 15 drops of AgeDefy, as per the instructions, and dried my short fine blonde hair. Normally, I would have used Got2B foam mousse. I ended up with a mess of fly away hairs that had no body. I used some Moroccan Oil to calm down the fly aways and tomorrow I will use some texture powder to give my hair some body. The Pantene purchase was a waste of $19.99. The reason I gave the packaging quality a 4 is because the "cap cover" is clever and would probably make the container safe for one's checked luggage. But this container is not traveling anywhere with me. Its destination is probably the garbage.

Hair Color -Unlisted Brand - Joan Rivers - Great Hair Day - thinning hair fill-in powder
lulu2222 11/24/2012 12:00:00 PM
Today, I received this product in Light Blonde. First, I had a problem opening the compact-like container. After I managed to open it, the lid separated from the bottom and I will have to work at it to put the compact back together - in which case it will be difficult to open again. The product looks like a cake of light brown eye shadow - which had I bought that would not have cost me $29.50 plus $4.47 S&H. I applied some (with the brush) to my grey roots and it's okay in terms of color. You can't get it too close to your hairline because the color is so obvious on your scalp. The instructions do say to avoid the quarter inch before the hairline. Frankly, I feel ridiculous for ordering this product (from QVC) as the only advantage to it is making Joan Rivers even richer than she already is. One more thing - there is a mirror inside the compact. Who in the world would use a tiny mirror to brush on hair color? ---------------------------------- After posting the above, I read AndreaJunelle's posting just below mine. The net weight of the product is .24 oz or 6.8 grms. That's not large - it's tiny for hair color. Also, note the photo of the product which looks like an easel. Try to reassemble the pieces after disassembling them.

Treatments (Eye) -Clinique - Even better eyes dark circle corrector
lulu2222 9/30/2012 6:06:00 AM
After using this pricey product for two months, there is no effect on my dark circles. When I first opened the tube, I thought it was a roll on so when I squeezed the tube a whole bunch of product came out and then I realized it wasn't a roll on. I hate the packaging. So it doesn't work and the packaging is awful. I have used Clinique products for years. I am going back to All About Eyes. AAE feels good when I apply it. EBE has a slight irritating effect when I first apply it. The irritation does disappear quickly.

Treatments -Got 2 Be - Got 2b Fat-Tastic Mega-Lift Root Boosting Spray
lulu2222 9/2/2012 8:29:00 AM
I'm a fan of Got 2b products - relatively inexpensive and as good as expensive products. BUT I sure did not like mega-lift root-boosting spay. I have short dark blonde hair which I like to look roughed up. The spray did accomplish that but I ended up with dull kind of straw like hair. I would add that I also bought the back 2 bed texture powder and I do like that. Maybe it's just easier to apply only to the roots But I did put the root boosting spray on my finger tips so it would not get all over my hair and I still ended up with dreary dull hair. One more thing - the Got 2b thickening plumping mousse is very good. I read somewhere that one should 80% dry her hair after shampooing and then apply the mousse (or any other styling product). I find that suggestion works.

BB Cream -Dr. Jart+ - Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45 PA+++
lulu2222 6/6/2012 9:25:00 AM
I had such high hopes for this product and was especially intrigued by the SPF45. I have very fair skin with a slight pink tinge. I was given a sample at Sephora and this morning applied it. I wasn't bothered by the feeling of putting liquid paste on my face but I was so disappointed to see my face getting PINK and I do mean pink. I waited thinking the shade would change but it did not. I now have a very pink face next to my white neck. I don't think Sephora carries the Dr. J product that comes in different shades. Even though that product isn't SPF45, I'd give it a try. I'm so disappointed - back to SPF moisturizer, then primer, then foundation. ********************************************************* A couple hours later, I looked in the mirror. The pink had subsided a lot. But the makeup was too dark - a definite difference between face and neck. I stopped into Sephora and asked the "expert" what she thought and her response was it's too dark. She then showed me SmashBox's BB Camera Ready in "Fair". It's SPF35. I took a sample and will try it tomorrow. So I still would not buy Dr. J but will hope for the best with SB. SPF35 isn't as good as SPF45 but it's better than a lot of other stuff. By the way, SB BB came in (I think) six shades. Fair was the lightest.

Hair Color -John Frieda - Precision Foam Color
lulu2222 7/24/2011 7:54:00 PM
I bought this product because I had a $3 coupon. I wish I hadn't bought it. I normally use L'Oreal Excellence or L'Oreal Healthy Look Gloss - in medium natural (not ashy, not gold) blonde. But, anyhow, being a cheapskate, I bought the Frieda Foam in #8 which is medium blonde. It was easy to apply - as advertised - but the result is dull, no gloss hair. I did use the conditioner that came with the color. Obviously, I won't buy it again and I will give myself a conditioning masque the next time I shampoo. Perhaps others have had better luck with some of the other shades. I'm editing this review. (It's five days later). After shampooing, I used a masque (Acai Deep Conditioning Masque), which I applied, waited for 20 minutes and rinsed out. My hair looks much much better. The dark blonde has lightened and some shine is back. I won't buy the Frieda foam again but I am relieved that the drabness I experienced is gone.

Conditioner -Redken - Blonde Glam Conditioner
lulu2222 3/7/2011 2:16:00 PM
This comment applies to Redken Blonde Glam Color Enhancer Rich Vanilla. It is a "color depositing conditioning treatment for warm blonde hair." Every time I color my hair medium blonde, the temples remain white. I think I am about 80% grey but really haven't seen my hair in its natural state for decades. I had been thinking of just going grey but I do remember my mother's grey hair and the thought of having it myself does make me hesitate. I bought this color enhancer at Ulta and almost didn't because the directions seemed too complicated. I decided to not follow the directions (like using gloves). I got into the shower, shampooed my hair, towel dried it and then applied the color enhancer with my fingers concentrating on my temple area but also using it on my whole head. The results were great! My temple area is blonde and my whole head of blonde hair looks great (probably because the grey strands throughout my head of hair were also "enhanced." As for the conditioning effect, I like it because my hair did not end up too soft and flyaway as other conditioners have done. All in all, a great product for me.

Styling Products -Unlisted Brand - Maxius Beyond Straight
lulu2222 12/31/2010 1:27:00 PM
Last year, I had the Brazilian Blow Out done on my fine fly-away wavy-in-the-wrong-places blonde hair and I was so happy with the result. Well, my salon (Tony & Guy) no longer offers the BBO because of the supposed formaldehyde problem. I have considered going to another salon that still offers it but I feel guilty asking a beautician to inhale the fumes. For me, it's just one brief moment of irritating fumes but for the beautician it's doing it many times a day. Anyhow, in an effort to straighten my hair, I tried Flat Iron Finish by Easy Straight. It's the temporary product that lasts from one shampoo to the next. And it's an okay product but not great. However, I found Beyond Straight by Maxiessentials on the web and ordered it. I just used it after a shampoo and it is very, very good. I did not need to use my flat iron which really surprised me. (My hair is a short bob and longer hair might still require the flat iron.) My only criticism of this product is the packaging. The product is in an opaque bottle that is squared, not rounded, and I can't imagine all of the "gel" will eventually come out of the bottle and then there's the problem of not knowing how much is left.

Treatments -Bumble & Bumble - Thickening Serum
lulu2222 12/14/2010 10:50:00 PM
Because I have fine blond hair and not that much of it, I am a sucker for a product with the word "thickening" in its title. This product, B&B Thickening Serum, does absolutely nothing to "thicken" my hair. It's a total waste of money in a cute little bottle. To paraphrase B&B, it's useless (really). If I didn't feel so dumb for buying it, I'd take it back to Sephora but I'm going to leave it on my bathroom shelf so it serves as a daily reminder to NOT buy stuff on the spur of the moment.

Sunscreen -Clinique - Super City Block SPF 40
lulu2222 6/23/2010 9:54:00 AM
I bought this product as a primer. It's awful as a primer. I've tried liquid foundation and mousse foundation over it and I get a really bad "pilling" effect. I've waited about five minutes after applying the primer so it can dry before applying the make up but it still pills. So I will use the rest of primer on those days when I am not going to wear make up but I will never buy it again. Frankly, Monistat Powder Gel is still the best (and most economical) primer I've ever tried----no SPF but one can always wear a hat.

Mascara -Dr. Hauschka - Mascara
lulu2222 3/3/2010 2:48:00 PM
I started out in life with sparse blond eyelashes and it hasn't gotten any better as I age. I used to shop around for all kinds of mascara (and their promises). But as I get older (and my eyes get drier living in an arid environment), I find mascara irritates and drives my eyes crazy. I think I've tried a small fortune's worth of mascara to find something I can live with. Not even Clinique worked for me. In fact, Blinc was the least irritating but still a problem. Well I bought Dr. Hauschka's mascara and I find that it does not irritate my eyes. I have now worn it for 15 hours at a time. It does not elongate or add volume but I do have dark eye lashes and I'm happy with that. I bought it on line but I see Whole Foods carries the entire Dr. H. cosmetic line, I hate the price but will certainly buy it again.

Treatments -StriVectin - SD by Klein-Becker
lulu2222 3/1/2010 8:09:00 PM
This is a review of StriVectin Neck Cream. I normally would never spend $90 on a jar of neck cream. But I got a sample-with-purchase at Sephora. It lasted about ten days and my crepey neck looked much much smoother. I was really surprised. I have always used the same creams on my neck that I have used on my face but they never did anything for my neck. I have no idea why this cream works so well but I've bought a $90 jar.
