Styling Products -Kevin Murphy - Session Spray hairspray
lulu1974 2/4/2012 10:16:00 AM
This is a great hairspray for my straight fine hair. It provides excellent hold without crunch and flakes. It performs better than Aveda Controlforce (flake city) and even Ellenet for me. I use it to set updos ( French twists & chignons)and to manage one unruly section of hair. I can even comb it out and wear my hear down the next day without having to shampoo. I can't really speak to shine enhancement as I have really shiny , dark brown hair to begin with. Yes, it is on the higher end at 24 CDN$. However, it's money well spent and I highly recommend giving this salon brand a try.

Lip Treatments -Jack Black - Intense Therapy Lip Balm spf 25
lulu1974 2/4/2012 9:37:00 AM
I have found my HG lip balm ! Hubby likes it, too. It's even better than ROC's Enydrial. It's not tacky and doesn't cause a pasty white ring after a few hours of wear. I have the Natural Mint with Shea flavour. It does tingle a bit- like Carmex. I only wish it came in a stick format as opposed to a tube so that I don't have worry about potential leaks in my purse.....so far , so good after 1 week. $CDN 8 well spent at my local Sephora.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Elie Saab-Le Parfum
lulu1974 9/9/2011 4:39:00 PM
I was so excited to try this orange based fragrance after sniffing a magazine scent strip. The top and middle notes were floral. Alas, the long lasting dry down was much like Thierry Mugler's Alien, a fragrance that smells like grape juice on me. Luckily, I did not purchase a bottle or it would have gone right back to the store.

Lipstick -Chanel - Rouge Coco- Venise
lulu1974 9/7/2011 1:41:00 PM
This review is for Chanel's Rouge Coco lipstick in shade # 26 Venise. I've just purchased this product. This is a very office appropriate brownie red colour for my Indian C6/ NC 42 complexion. A nice change from the MLBB nude tones I usually wear without venturing into high maintenance red. I paired it w. a tiny dab of Lancome juicy tube lipgloss in Raspberry Ice, a sheer pinky apricot. Venise goes on smoothly and feels very creamy. It wears nicely for 3-4 hours before needing to reapply. It was also fab on my pale skinned (warm undertoned) and auburn haired friend. This lipstick is expensive at 32 US $. I'm sure it would be easy to find a drugstore dupe. I must admit that I quite like the luxe packaging but am still removing 1 lippie due to its price.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Greensmoke
lulu1974 12/12/2010 5:41:00 PM
This is a great day to night eyeshadow for darker skinned women. I'm a C6 with very dark brown eyes. A light hand makes this wearable as a contour shade for the office. A light application shows some shine but it's not frosty like it appears in the container. I just got this yesterday but layering on more of this MAC lustre shade would make an excellent choice for a night out.

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - true blue spa shea it isn't so foot cream
lulu1974 7/19/2009 10:28:00 PM
I'm delighted to have found this foot cream @ Bath & Body Works. It's a wonderful, lightly scented cream that does a great job moisturizing my feet overnight when paired with cotton socks. It has a nice tingly feeling and makes my summer sandal/flip flop feet feel human again. I'm switching to this cream from from my previous HG, Body Shop' sPeppermint foot lotion. Glad it comes in a travel size so I can bring it on beach holidays.

Polishes -Essie - Congo Bongo
lulu1974 7/19/2009 9:58:00 PM
This a great neutral with a little oomph....1 coat on bare nails gives my fingernails a polished nude finish that dries quickly and is great for the office. Chips are hardly noticeable. The subtle red glow ( NOT tacky frost) looks lovely in the light. 2-3 coats coats gives my toes more of peachy brown colour that is great neutral for the summer. This polish has earned its place in my nail colour "wardrobe"

Lipstick -Clinique - Almost Lipstick - Black Honey
lulu1974 3/1/2009 1:30:00 PM
I just purchased Almost Black Honey from Sephora for 18$ CDN. The shade is a great match for my yellow based, MAC C6 complexion. I have to admit that the deep purple colour in the tube scared me off for years. It's a very sheer product that allows me to use a light hand and get a barely there stain for office wear and a much deeper evening shade from one tube. The packaging is great to fit into tiny evening clutches, too. I highly recommend trying this product to Hispanic and South Asian women.

Mascara -Lancome - Oscillation Vibrating Infinite Mascara
lulu1974 12/14/2008 2:57:00 PM
I'm a huge fan of Lancome's Hypnose waterproof and Definicils, so I assumed that this mascara would be fab --WRONG !!! It looked great when I first applied 1 coat to my to curled lashes, but then it flaked less than 2 hours later and got into my contact lenses. I had to leave a party early because the flakes bothered my eyes so much. Getting the rest of it off was tough even with an oil remover. I got this mascara for free and would not recommend that any one pay 39$ CDN for it. I suppose it does have value as a joke ,stocking stuffer (vibrator) for the right gal. In the mean time, I'm going to stick with my current fave, L'Oreal Panoramic Curl.

Highlighters -BeneFit Cosmetics - Moon Beam
lulu1974 12/14/2008 2:47:00 PM
I was about to write off the sample I got from Sephora as being totally useless when I saw how it made a difference in photos. Moonbeam imparts a very subtle sheen to my MAC C6 skin. Not one that folks notice in real life but it helps brighten my eye area on film. It has not caused any breakouts nor irritated the skin below my brow. I plan on trying samples of a few more highlighters ( Touche eclat, Highbeam, and a drugstore brand) before making a purchase. Moonbeam is not something I would incorporate into my beauty routine unless I know that cameras will be clicking away at a party or other event.

Conditioner -Aveda - Clove conditioner
lulu1974 12/14/2008 2:36:00 PM
After pouring through the various reviews ( thank you !!! )on this site, I chose to buy the Aveda Clove conditioner to cover the white that has been cropping up in my 30 something head of South Asian black hair. I've been using it for 2 weeks and it's been doing a great job of blending in the greys and giving my hair a subtle, warm brown glow in the light. It does not cover the grey entirely but does a very good job and leaves my hair shiny. I leave it on for 10 mins after shampooing and towel drying my hair. I haven't had a problem with stained tubs nor skin but I've washed my hands right after applying. It hasn't caused my scalp to break out like the John Freida brown gloss. Great product for my needs. However, the 30$ CDN price tag for this Aveda conditioner is steep , hence the 4/5.
