Eye Shadow -Cargo - Yukon Eye Shadow

The color is taupe with plum tones and a subtle silver shimmer. The texture is what makes CARGO shimmer shadows so terrific, IMHO--very satiny and blendable. $16 is a nice price break from the $20+ that my other favorite brands, Laura Mercier and NARS charge. The tins are cute, but if they're not going to provide a compact, I think they shouldn't cost more than $14, tops. The quality of their shadows overcomes my price objections, though.

Lip Gloss -NARS - Lip Lacquer in Tiffany
rated 5 of 5

I have both Tiffany and Medea, and I am not sure that they are exactly the same. Perhaps they changed the color slightly? I find Tiffany to be a lighter shade and less red than Medea, and I prefer it for those reasons. Also, about the thick stickiness--if you apply it heavily, you will be more likely to have that problem. But if applied sheerly, the warmth from your lips tends to "melt" the gloss a little and reduce stickiness.

Lip Gloss -NARS - Lip Lacquer in Eros

Very nice pink gloss. Sweet without being shocking pink. Not a color I can wear a lot but when I want pink, this is the perfect shade. Plus, it's got the best staying power of any lip gloss.

Lip Gloss -NARS - Lip Lacquer in Cabiria

Although my HG color is Butterfield 8, this one comes in a close second. I don't normally wear frosted lip color of any kind, but this one has a very subtle shimmer. Pretty copper brown shade.

Lip Gloss -NARS - Lip Lacquer in Butterfield 8

My HG lip color. Looks very natural with my Scandanavian coloring and has a staying power that is unrivaled by any other lip gloss. I carry it in my purse and apply with a finger when I'm on the go. Not ideal, but well worth the compromise.

Skincare - Body -Bath and Body Works - White Tea and Ginger (All Products)
rated 4 of 5
lolly5377 6/25/2005 10:55:00 PM

This is the only regular BBW scent I like (although I do like some of their Pure Simplicity stuff). I hear it's being discontinued. However, if you like it, you can get White Tea and Ginger products with the exact same smell from a company called Cru de Provence. Gift baskets of their products are available online, and they have a much larger line than does BBW. You can get it in soaps, shower gel, body scrub, bath soak, body lotion, hand lotion, bath salts, bath bombs, foot soak, etc. Try Costco's website.

Candles -Henri Bendel - Home - Amber
rated 5 of 5
lolly5377 6/24/2005 6:47:00 PM

One of the very best Bendel candle scents. Very warm, softly spicy, and relaxing scent. These candles are wonderful because they are heavily scented. Burning this makes the whole house smell good. Some may find it overpowering, but I think that's ideal. I especially like to burn these candles in combinations. I use this one with Gingeroot, Fig, and/or Firewood. One night I got all four burning at once in my bedroom...thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Eyeliner -Laura Mercier - Tightline Cake Eye Liner in Eggplant
rated 5 of 5
lolly5377 5/27/2005 4:23:00 AM

Laura Mercier has discontinued her Aubergine eyeliner, which is a red-based purple. Now she is offering Eggplant, which is a blue-based violet liner. It's lovely, and a little easier to wear--it doesn't make your eyes look pink like Aubergine sometimes did. It looks best when paired with blue-based purples and cool-toned pinks, though. It looks a little odd if worn with purple shadow with too much of a red undertone. Very pretty.

Eye Shadow -Laura Mercier - Azure eye colour duo
rated 4 of 5
lolly5377 5/27/2005 4:17:00 AM

Laura Mercier's new eye shadow duos are all lovely. Most of them are very subtle when applied, but that makes them great for the no-makeup daytime look. The Azure duo is like a more subtle version of NARS's Cleo duo. The light blue is an extremely pale shimmer. The dark blue is a dusky medium blue with a very light shimmer. While Cleo looks more exciting in the pan, it's TOO exciting for me to wear during the daytime. It also has the unfortunate effect of making my green eyes look very yellow--not my most attractive look. Azure, however, looks really nice as a daytime shadow. And, worn with LM's Bleu Marine eyeliner, it makes my green eyes look greener--very nice. I do think the quality of the Violet duo is slightly higher; the light shade in that duo goes on more smoothly and more evenly than this one. Azure is still a high-quality product though. I knock off a lippie because I just can't give a 5 to a product that doesn't make me go "wow" when I see it in the pan. :)

Eye Shadow -Laura Mercier - Eye Colour Duo in Violet
rated 5 of 5
lolly5377 5/27/2005 3:52:00 AM

I just got this duo and I think it's great. It's not like a NARS duo--the colors don't wow you with how they look in the pan. But, unlike NARS, the quality of LM's shadows is always very high, and this duo is no exception. The light shade is a very pale lavendar with subtle silver shimmer. The darker shade is a dusky violet shimmer. Applied to the eye, the effect is not dramatic, but it is incredibly flattering. Instead of thinking "wow, my makeup looks great!", the reaction to this duo is "wow, I look so pretty today!" It's the most flattering no makeup look I've ever tried. I wear it with LM's Eggplant eyeliner. I have green eyes, and these two products together really make them pop. I knocked off a lippie because even though the colors are gorgeous and the quality is high, I'm still a sucker for shades that look exciting in the pan. :) ETA: Added that lippie back on because this is now my HG. Don't know why I own a crate full of other eyeshadows, because this is the only one I wear (80% of the time, anyway).

Eyeliner -Laura Mercier - Tightline Cake Eye Liner in Emerald Green
rated 5 of 5
lolly5377 5/26/2005 12:50:00 AM

Another great cake eyeliner from Laura Mercier. Ever since I fell in love with her cake liners, I've been searching other brands to find a green cake liner. I came up empty-handed. Then Laura finally released this color, and it was almost exactly what I wanted. It is a dark forest green when applied--just a touch darker than I would like--but it does still read as green, and not black, as so many supposedly green eyeliners do. Excellent.

Lip Gloss -NARS - Lip Lacquer in Medea
rated 5 of 5

I can't figure out why this one isn't more popular. It's a sheer cinnamon wash with just a hint of brown to tone it down. It goes with almost any look and it's a staple for me.

Lipstick -NARS - Tanganyka
rated 5 of 5
lolly5377 5/9/2005 4:01:00 PM

This looks like a deep brick red in the tube, but it's an illusion. This sheer formulation goes on as a YLBB medium plummy brown. I don't wear lipstick as a rule because it tends to look unnatural. This looks amazing! I can't wait to try more of NARS's sheer offerings.

Eye Shadow -NARS - Cairo
rated 4 of 5
lolly5377 5/9/2005 3:55:00 PM

Dusky medium plum. Very similar to the purple shade in the Charade duo, but this has more shimmer. I would not buy both again. With a light touch, this can be a wash for daytime. It can also be worn with Faith or Nepal to get the same effect as the Charade duo, but with more shimmer.

Eye Shadow -NARS - Faith
rated 4 of 5
lolly5377 5/9/2005 3:44:00 PM

I'm surprised this hasn't been purchased and reviewed by more MUAers. It's a beautiful coral pink with subtle gold shimmer. This would work for a wide range of skin tones, especially for people with warm undertones. It looks darker in the pan than it is when applied, as with many NARS shadows, but it is fairly pigmented. It shows up better than Laura Mercier's Guava, which is pretty close to this shade in color. Lovely, especially for summer.
