So I just turned 50, unbelievable! I wore Chanel #5 a lot from age 20-30, enjoying that classic floral, never crazy about the aldehide opening, a bit bored by the "powder" middle, and always loving the long soft dry down. From age 30-40 I tried many fragrances, various lavenders, violets, looking for florals with some edginess, not too sweet; some "chypres". I tried to like other Chanels but just could not, including all the Exclusives, full bottles of Gardenia and Bois de Iles, almost loved Cuir de Russe. The Chance's were too "teeny bopper", the Allures and Cocos gave me headaches, the 5 Premiere was just not distinctive or confident. Finally, at age 40 I fell hard for 19 and made the emotional switch from 5 to 19, which I still wear often, in all the forms I could find. I did not expect to love 19 Poudre, but now that I have it, I think this is exactly what I was looking for when I left #5. Soft, close, pretty but not too sweet, classic, interesting, inoffensive in business settings. Silage is not fantastic, but I got a little sample size for my purse and will reapply often. For me, this will replace #19 edp for everyday wear, so comparing edp's, Poudre wins over classic (reformulated) 19, but I still love #19 pure parfum for evening...jasmin/rose with depth, not just powder, and I will still spritz on 19 edt sometimes in warm weather (I can't wait to try Jersey btw). In summary, I'm pleasantly surprised by #19 Poudre. Purchased in Paris at the boutique on Rue de Cambon last week on a business trip for 80 Euro, which I know is higher than I could pay in the US, but it was a special trip!
