Lotions/ Creams -Desert Essence - Organics hand and body lotion-coconut
liquidskyfire 6/28/2010 8:48:00 PM
I usually use Desert Essence cream in vanilla chai, but I decided to switch it up and try the coconut, despite not being a HUGE fan of coconut, just cause I needed a change. Turns out I actually prefer the coconut! The smell is a bit strong, but I like it, and more importantly, I think it's even more moisturizing than the vanilla chai. My skin has been extra extra smooth since I started using it! Definitely a keeper :)

Eyeliner -Maybelline - Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner
liquidskyfire 6/28/2010 8:00:00 PM
I love this eyeliner! I decided to give it a try because I was curious about gel liners and the rave reviews they've been getting, but didn't want to spend the money on an expensive brand like MAC if I didn't have to. And I don't have to, because this stuff is perfect! Lovely creamy consistency, doesn't smudge or flake off, very pigmented dark black colour. I've gotten used to the brush application quickly, and in fact find it much easier and more precise than when using a pencil.. and who can argue with the price? Quite frankly, I don't see how MAC could manage to top this liner! Go drugstore brands! :)

Skincare - Face -Keys - Solar RX SPF 30 Therapeutic Sunblock
liquidskyfire 6/28/2010 7:51:00 PM
I was at Nature's Fare looking for another sunscreen, and there happened to be a booth set up giving out free Solar-Rx samples. I didn't find the sunscreen I was looking for, so I took an rx sample home. Boy am I glad I did! I absolutely love this stuff! Personally, I find the texture nice and smooth - though that may be because I apply right after I get out of the shower in the morning, after just patting my skin dry. It goes on very well at that point and sinks right in, but I could see it being more difficult to apply when your skin is dry. I also adore the smell, and haven't noticed the "white cast" many people talk about, though to be fair, that may just be because I'm already deathly pale. It doesn't make my skin unduly oily or dry, nor does it break me out at all, though my skin is very prone to getting clogged. So all in all, it works perfect for me! I'm now happily awaiting my online order (since it was sold out all over town!) of a full-size bottle :) I'm glad to have found a sunscreen I can use daily on my face, since I want to protect my skin and keep it looking youthful as I age!

Lipstick -Maybelline - Color Sensational - Born With It
liquidskyfire 6/28/2010 7:38:00 PM
I finally gave this lipstick a try after getting a couple recommendations for it. I wasn't sure what I thought when I put a small amount on my lips at the store to test, but after bringing it home and really trying it on, I loved it! Great colour, nice smooth moisturizing texture, and pretty clear red packaging to boot. My lips look natural since it matches the colour almost exactly, but makes them look smooth and juicy :) it pairs well with some pink tinted softlips lip balm underneath for extra moisture + spf.

Lipstick -NYX - Diamond Sparkle Lipsticks
liquidskyfire 3/27/2010 11:27:00 PM
I love these! They're super cheap, very moisturizing, and have that sparkly frosty sheen that suits me well. The colours are very sheer, which is nice if you want a more subtle look, or to layer them on top of another colour, as I am wont to do. They're worth a try, anyway, for that price!

Treatments -Clean & Clear - Persagel 5% Benzoyl Peroxide
liquidskyfire 1/7/2010 6:30:00 AM
After years and years of acne, I have finally found something to keep it at bay! Love this stuff. It IS super drying, which is my only complaint, but paired with a good moisturizer, it works wonders for me :) I still get some acne, but it's pretty minimal, and this clears it up super fast anyway.

Moisturizers -Beauty Without Cruelty - maximum moisture cream
liquidskyfire 1/7/2010 5:58:00 AM
I have oily, acne prone skin that is VERY easily clogged, so for most of my life I never used face moisturizers, as they only seemed to make things worse! But then we moved to dryer climate and I HAD to find something. So after a couple creams that did nothing/clogged my pores/gave me acne, I finally tried Beauty Without Cruelty's oil-free moisturizer. It definitely helped somewhat, and didn't break me out at all. Score! But THEN I started using a benzoyl peroxide cream on my acne, which worked well, but made my skin SUPER dry and flaky. The oil-free moisturizer just wasn't cutting it, so in desperation, I decided to try this one, since the other BWC cream was so nice. I was a bit scared because it did contain oil, and appeared quite thick, both of which are usually guaranteed to give me acne... But this cream is simply amazing. Despite the fact that it is not oil-free, it has not broken me out once, and does not clog my pores. And it does an excellent job moisturizing, even with the BP & dry winter climate working together. You need hardly any, and it sinks right in. I swear, my skin has felt baby-soft ever since I started using this! And NO dry-ness or flaking at all :) The price is quite good considering how well this works, how little you need, and how AMAZING the ingredients are! And of course, I love that it's cruelty free :) Oh, and while I thought the smell was strange, even unpleasant at first, it's grown on me, and now I love it! It reminds me a bit of Christmas, as I find it smells very subtly of cinnamon and citrus. Mmm. So yeah, this is my new Holy Grail moisturizer, and I reccomend it to, well, everyone! This is the cream I've been waiting for all my life. It might be for you, too :)

Bronzers -Physicians Formula - Baked Pyramid Matte Bronzer - Tan
liquidskyfire 1/7/2010 5:34:00 AM
When I first started using bronzer, I had been using one from an old Claire's palette. After it ran out, I had the absolute *hardest* time finding a nice, matte bronzer that didn't look horribly orange against my super fair skin! This one looks nice and natural, and is perfect for subtly highlighting my cheekbones and adding a little tinge of colour to my face. It's my new HG bronzer for sure! :)

Skincare - Body -Earth Therapeutics - Oatmeal & Honey Scrub
liquidskyfire 12/4/2009 4:26:00 AM
I came across this scrub at Winners ages ago, and sort of bought it on a whim. I absolutely LOVED it! I've tried a couple different scrubs before, including the "Peaches & Passion" version of this scrub, but none of them worked as well as this one. Something about the "Oatmeal & Honey" one made my skin feel very smooth, and didn't aggravate my acne like many other scrubs I've tried. Oh, and it smells yummy and has adorable packaging, too! Unfortunately, I've been unable to find this scrub again :( If Winners still sells these, they've been out of stock every time I've gone in. But I liked this scrub so much that I may just order some online!

Lotions/ Creams -Desert Essence - Vanilla Chai Hand and Body Lotion
liquidskyfire 12/4/2009 4:21:00 AM
A lot of people seem to find the smell of this cream too strong, but personally, I love it! It makes me smell like a cinnamon bun!! :) I also like the texture of this lotion. It's quite light, but I still feel like it's moisturizing, and not just sitting in a waxy layer on top of my skin, like a lot of lotions do. It's very non-greasy, and nice and spreadable, too! The only thing is, because it's so light I occasionally need a little more moisturizing power than it can offer (only in the fall and winter, really) So now and then I'll slather myself in almond oil for the night, and I'm good again for a while.

Eye Shadow -NYX - Ultra Pearl Mania - Sky Pink Pearl
liquidskyfire 12/3/2009 10:29:00 PM
I didn't have much hope for this shadow, honestly. Light pink eyeshadows usually just disappear against my fair skin tone. I just kind of grabbed it on a whim because I absolutely love NYX's pearl mania line and, I dunno, I figured I could blend it with some other colour or use it to highlight or something. But it turns out that this shade looks GREAT on me! Quel surprise! Somehow it is both light in colour, yet quite noticeable as well. Wearing it is the first time I would describe my makeup as being soft and "romantic." And as with all of the NYX pearl mania shadows, it's very shimmery and pigmented, so a little goes a long way! This is definitely among my top favourite eyeshadows now! Oh, and for those of you who have trouble with the little bottle... I find the best way to use these shadows is to put your finger over the hole, shake the bottle, then pat your finger on your eyelid. But that's just my suggestion. I know a lot of people don't like using their fingers to apply makeup.

Shampoo -Neutrogena - Anti-Residue Shampoo
liquidskyfire 12/3/2009 8:26:00 PM
This product, for me at least, does exactly as it says! It gets rid of the buildup in my hair from my other shampoo, which keeps my hair all nice and shiny and not weighed down - something that is important whne you have thin, fine hair like me! I have to use it a little more often than once a week - more like every 3 days or so - but I don't know if that's because of my hair texture or the shampoo I use. The only downside, as others have mentioned, is the scent. I am definitely not a fan of it. I agree with those who described it as being somewhat like very strong baby powder. Blech! Luckily, you don't really smell it unless it's the last shampoo you use. I really wish they would make an unscented version, though! :S Anyway, I definitely reccomend trying this out! And if it doesn't work on your hair, you can always use it to clean your makeup brushes :)

Moisturizers -Beauty Without Cruelty - Oil-Free Moisture
liquidskyfire 11/30/2009 5:12:00 AM
I've never really worn face moisturizers before, because all the ones I had tried in the past clogged my pores or caused acne. But I finally became determined to find a good moisturizer, and figured my best bet for finding a one that wouldn't clog my pores would be to look for one that was oil free. I spotted this one just when I was leaving the store, getting ready to give up, and decided to give it a try despite the plain packaging and fairly high price. And I'm glad that I did! PROS: The main pro of this moisturizer for me is that it indeed does NOT seem to clog my pores or cause acne! It has a very nice texture - very light & almost "fluffy," like it's been whipped, and is very non-greasy. This makes it very spreadable, so that a little bit will cover your entire face - making the price that I originally thought too expensive for such a small pot actually quite fair, in my opinion. The fact that it is so light and mild also means I can apply it over my eyes without irritating them! I swear it's made my eyelashes nice and soft, so that they don't break easily and look nice and thick. I think this moisturizer is also perfect for going underneath makeup. It makes my foundation go on much smoother, so it doesn't get that mottled patchy look to it. And having it on my eyelashes also makes mascara go on smoother, making my eyelashes look thicker and longer! Oh, and while some people have complained about the smell, I for one ADORE it! I believe the main thing you smell is the rose geranium, which might explain it, since rose scented things seem to be kind of "love it or hate it" for most people. CONS: This IS a very light moisturizer, so I'm thinking I may have to look for a more moisturizing night cream to pair this with in the winter, when my skin is at its dryest. But this is still great for the daytime, and I imagine will be just perfect during the spring and very hot summer! The packaging is pretty plain, which is a little disappointing to someone like me who loves pretty things ;) Also, it probably would be more sanitary in a squeeze tube, but I just make sure to wash my hands well before sticking them in the pot. So yeah, I will fore sure be buying this cream again once I run out! I'm very glad to have discovered it. This is definitely an HG product for me! :)

Liquid -L'Oreal - infallible never fail makeup
liquidskyfire 11/30/2009 4:17:00 AM
I honestly wasn't expecting much from this foundation when I picked it up. I was just so desperate for a foundation that matched my extremely pale skin, and this was the closest I could find! Really, I don't get what it is with there being so few pale foundations! (Especially when the line actually caries a paler shade, but the store just doesn't order them in. Wtf?) To my surprise, this foundation has actually turned out to be quite nice. It has a good texture (especially after a couple hours when it starts to get that sort of "dewy glow"), pretty good coverage, hasn't caused my acne-prone skin to break out, and like I said, matches my pale skin pretty well. It's still just ever so slightly too dark, but that's something I've learned to expect at this point, and at least it doesn't have that horrible orange tinge so many foundations have! (Oompa Loompa skin =/= attractive!) So I'll definitely be buying this foundation again! My only beefs with this foundation are that it doesn't really stay matte all day, so you will likely have to re-powder your face at some point during the day (no biggie, really) and that the pump often clogs up (but that's probably just my fault for not putting the cap on properly :P)
