Shampoo -Aveeno - Aveeno Nourish + Shine Shampoo
lipstickgirl8 4/11/2012 10:06:00 PM
For me - this stuff is terrific. I guess it just goes to show that different hair types have different needs. I'm 48 and have dry color treated hair (blonde but I color the grey) and this is by far the BEST shampoo I have tried. And I've tried them all, including the most expensive like Kerastasse. After spending money on color, the last thing i want to do is ruin it. But honestly, this shampoo (and now the matching conditioner) are the best combination for my hair. They leave it remarkably soft and clean, and actually shiny. (It's very hard for blonde hair to be shiny because it doesn't reflect light as well as darker hair.) And I can go 2 or even 3 days without washing. It looks amazing after I use the flat iron, too. So if you have dry or greying hair, give this a try. I am almost finished with a bottle and will definitely buy it again. And at $5.99 it is a huge bargain!

Fragrances -Jo Malone - Blue Agava and Cacao
lipstickgirl8 3/20/2012 7:05:00 PM
Full disclosure - I love Jo Malone scents and have more of them than I can count. But somehow I'd never tried this one. I passed through Nordstrom the other day, sampled it and liked it, and promptly bought it using some Nordstrom notes :). It's beautiful. Not too gourmand-y, and it LASTS, which all of her fragrances do not on me. It's kind of powdery and dry, but interesting. I've combined it with Vetiver which I like, but I also like it on its own. One thing I have noticed (have others?) is that it seems to combine better with my chemistry on my wrists than on my neck. For some reason (body heat?) some heavier scents seem too "full" when I spray them on my neck. But I can wear them on my wrists or inside my elbow. Anyway, I am now in love with this fragrance! Give it a try.

Scrubs -L'Occitane - ultra rich face scrub
lipstickgirl8 2/11/2012 11:34:00 AM
I just tried a free sample and liked it. I used it on dry skin (as opposed to wet) and it worked quite well. Exfoliated nicely without irritating. I did use a gentle cleanser afterwards to remove any excess oil - it's a heavy product. But my skin feels great and make up application was great! Not sure if I will actually purchase yet - will use the rest of the sample and then decide. But so far, so good.

Treatments -Paula's Choice - RESIST Daily Smoothing Treatment with 5% AHA
lipstickgirl8 11/23/2011 9:57:00 PM
At first I was unsure about this, but now that I have been using it (along with the weekly treatment) for a few months, I can definitely see a difference. It takes a while, but I can absolutely see an improvement in my skin. I will definitely be repurchasing. No reason not to - this isn't a fancy product, nor expensive, but it WORKS.

Concealers -Olay - Regenerist Touch of Concealer
lipstickgirl8 9/10/2011 4:09:00 PM
Love this - am on my second tube. Let's be clear - this is not equivalent to using actual concealer, which I would prefer but usually simply don't have time for. But it works quite well for what it is: an eye cream with a touch of concealer. It moisturizes and brightens my eyes. And it takes mere seconds! If you're looking for a quick trick, give it a try.

Polishes -Revlon - Carbonite
lipstickgirl8 9/10/2011 4:03:00 PM
LOVE THIS COLOR! I was in CVS buying candy corn for my 4-year-old, and I spied this on an endcap display. It's a knock off of the popular Chanel color, so I grabbed one. Great color - I honestly would love it even if I wasn't delighted by it being a trendy Chanel clone. :)

Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Tinted Lip Balm - Hibiscus
lipstickgirl8 4/12/2011 9:36:00 PM
Love it. It may well be the perfect tinted lib balm! I have tried so many (Kiehls, Aveda etc) and this is great - soft pretty color, soft texture, nice scent and a great feel. It looks soft and pretty on when I just want a bit of color and not full-on lipstick. And a bargain at $6.99. I'd gladly pay more but this does what I want it to do! And I have to say I like the minimalist brown tube packaging. I'll use this right up and buy another!

Shampoo -Cibu - Geishalicious Color Protecting Shampoo
lipstickgirl8 11/11/2010 1:26:00 PM
Great shampoo! I have bought everything for my long, color treated hair that tends towards dryness. This stuff is a keeper. I've been using it for about two months now and I realize my hair looks better than ever. I sometimes use the conditioner, but more often I use the Neutrogena Triple Moisture which is my HG everyday conditioner. But this shampoo is terrific. It's pretty cheap, all things considered. It smells nice too, and gives great results. What more could you want?

Lipstick -MAC - Satin Lipstick in Twig
lipstickgirl8 10/5/2010 9:06:00 PM
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this already! I love Twig. It's not earth-shattering, but it works so well. It's the perfect everyday, MLBB color. I wear it when I want to look like me, but better. I never choose it at night, but it's great for work and weekends. A perfect neutral on me. I've bought several tubes over the years, and just used my "back to mac" trade in to get one! And I do love the stain formula.

Treatments -Kiehls - Midnight Recovery Concentrate
lipstickgirl8 10/3/2010 9:37:00 PM
I love this! I am still working my way through a sample (using only a few drops, it will last a while) but after two weeks I can see results. I use a few drops at night (including around eyes) and my skin looks so much healthier! I love the feel and the scent of this product. Oddly it reminds me of that Aveda puressence. Anyway, as another poster mentioned, I feel like I'm using less makeup because my skin looks healthier. Will definitely buy it once my sample runs out. EDIT: I fell out of love. It is fine, but I don't think it's really doing that much other than feeling good when it goes on. I moved on to the new Paula's Choice Resist series and am much happier with the results from that line.

Shampoo -Suave - Professionals Color Care
lipstickgirl8 10/3/2010 9:32:00 PM
This stuff rocks! So cheap, and it works! I have tried EVERYTHING and would gladly pay for Kerastase if it worked. But honestly, I prefer this shampoo! My hair is shiny and healthy and happy - feels much cleaner and fresher than it did with the Kerastase color shampoo. I use it with my new fave Neutrogena Triple Moisturizer conditioner, which I use every time I wash since my hair is dry. I find it highly ironic that I've tried products high and low and my best results have been with low-priced products!

Sunscreen -Kiehls - Super Fluid UV Defense Spf 50+
lipstickgirl8 10/3/2010 9:29:00 PM
Great sunscreen. I love that it is so liquid - the Kiehls rep suggested blending a small amount of this with my moisturizer, which is easier than applying two layers. Smells a bit like sunscreen coming out of the bottle, but the scent vanishes once on my skin. I've only been using it a week, but so far so good. Makeup goes on easily over it, and as long as it's an effective sunscreen (which it appears to be) we are good to go! It's a tad pricey but I like it so much better than the Neutrogena sheerblock sunscreen I was using.

Moisturizers -Olay - Regenerist Touch of Foundation UV Defense Regenerating Moisturizer
lipstickgirl8 9/19/2010 10:15:00 AM
This is actually pretty good. I tend to use it on the weekends when I don't want to put on makeup but want tinted moisturizer for coverage. I'm medium toned (blond and tend to tan) and the color works fine. It's odd considering there's only one color offered, but it works for me.

Treatments (Eye) -Kiehls - Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado
lipstickgirl8 9/15/2010 4:24:00 PM
I'm glad I finally learned to filter by age on this site! Most of the poor reviews for products I think are exceptional are from young people whose needs are not the same as mine. I think this is an amazing eye cream! I have been using various other unexceptional products, but i just turned 47 and decided I needed to be more diligent about skin care. The Kiehls associate said that the skin around my eyes looked very dry and recommended this. She had me apply it in store - too much of it - and I felt I looked like a clown. While I spoke to her it absorbed, and now a few hours later I can already see a difference! I'm really excited.

Shampoo -Suave - Daily Clarifying Shampoo
lipstickgirl8 7/18/2010 3:15:00 PM
Well the joke's on me. My husband swears by the cheapest shampoo possible and I buy it for him (Suave, $0.77 at Wegmans) while snobbishly using other more expensive products. My expensive products were fine for my color treated hair, but adding up. This morning out of curiosity I tried this Suave shampoo since it was just sitting there in the shower with me ... well what a surprise. Granted I've only used it once, but it was great. My hair is clean and bouncy, but best of all it wasn't dried out. I used my new cheap Neutrogena Triple Moisture conditioner with it and it's fine. No noticeable difference from the usual $$$ products. For the price, it's sure worth it!
