Powder -Cover Girl - Simply Powder Foundation
rated 5 of 5

I kind of re-discovered this. I tried all of the expensive mineral powders and pressed foundations (BE, IT cosmetics, Philosophy) and they aged me, made my pores look bigger, and made me shiny- not good! I apply this over my Smashbox primer, a tinted moisturizer or BB (Maybelline Dream BB is a good one) and a dab or two of CoverGirl Simply Ageless Concealer. I cover all of my imperfections and it looks like my skin. This powder doesn't settle in fine lines or pores when brushed on with a BE flawless foundation brush. Classic Ivory is a lovely color on my fair skin- not too orange or pink like a lot of CoverGirl foundations tend to be for me. I'm so happy I tried this again after years of thinking the expensive brands would be better! Edit- Just tried Josie Maron Matchmaker powder foundation and Benefit's Hello Flawless and they did not look as good as this on my skin (have a stash of powder foundation and tinted moisturizers). I think they did not look good because the shimmer settled in my fine lines. The CoverGirl simply powder foundation is more matte, and just doesn't settle into my lines like other powders (even other matte powders) do. I have been wearing it with Miracle Skin Transformer (which acts as a primer/moisturizer/mattifier/ and SPF) and a little of the CoverGirl simply ageless concealer and it looks really good. I just picked up two more with a buy one get one 50 percent off at Walgreen's.

BB Cream -Maybelline - Dream Fresh 8-in-1 BB Cream

I LOVE this stuff!!! I've tried a couple BB's- Garnier and Smashbox, but they didn't do much for my skin. I put this on over my Smashbox primer (which I always use) and this just diffuses my imperfections and makes my skin look better. It's like a soft focus lens. It doesn't have a lot of coverage, so I pat on a little concealer on a couple of spots and brush on CoverGirl Simply Powder Foundation on top. That combination gives me all day coverage and my husband told me my skin looked nice.

Mascara -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Plump Mascara
rated 5 of 5

I don't understand all of the negative reviews for this mascara. I have tried tons of mascaras- Lancome Hypnose Drama, Benefit They're Real, Bobbi Brown Extreme, Clinique, Jordana, L'oreal, most all Covergirl and maybelline, etc.... and this works best for me! It lengthens my lashes quick. I don't have time to curl my lashes or put on a lot of coats, and this lengthens fast- in one or two coats. It doesn't clump and stays on all day! Hands down my favorite mascara!

Crème -Revlon - ColorStay Whipped Creme Makeup
rated 3 of 5

This is a dream come true. I use the Colorstay for dry skin every summer. It stays on through heat, humidity, and Disneyland. Sadly for me, it has the physical type of sunscreen that washes you out in flash pictures. So while my makeup stays on all day through our summer family trips, I look pale in all of the photos. I'm pretty fair to begin with, and proud of my summer tan, and don't want a pale washed out look in all of our family memories. Colorstay whipped stays on GREAT and doesn't have the physical sunscreen to wash you out. I can use chemical sunscreen and be protected, with long lasting makeup, and photograph more normally. I am so happy that they came up with this version. It doesn't settle in fine lines and the Buff color matches my fair, summer skin. I might even pick up a bottle of Ivory for winter. This would hold up well on rainy days as well. P.S. THIS WORKS GREAT COVERING SPIDER VEINS ON THE LEGS. I was trying all kinds of body cover-ups but found this blended in better and lasted longer. You just have to get a shade that matches your legs well. P.P.S Taking off a couple of points because it started to look cakey on me, and settle in fine lines. I used the regular Colorstay for dry skin on a trip, and when I came home and started to use this again, I found that the regular one looks better. And the regular one didn't make me paler in my photos. Guess I'll just use it to cover up the small spider veins on my legs.

Treatments -Dove - Nutritive Therapy Nourishing Oil Care Leave-in Smoothing Cream
rated 5 of 5
lindanail 8/23/2011 12:14:00 AM

This cream is wonderful! It moisturizes my thick, coarse, color- treated hair and fights frizz. It leaves my hair very soft without buildup. Other products I have tried made my hair feel coated and gross. This feels light and nourishing. It is my HG leave in styling product.

Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup with SoftFlex SPF 15 Normal/Dry Skin
rated 5 of 5

Well I finally found my HG foundation! I have been looking and looking for the perfect foundation and this it it. I've tried A LOT of expensive foundations and many drugstore ones as well. The color was either off, they didn't have enough coverage, they were cakey, or worst of all they made me look older. I was skeptical of trying this again (I tried it years ago when it first came out and I had oily/combo skin) because it isn't marketed as a foundation for older women (that seems to be the latest craze- foundation that doesn't age you or has anti-aging benefits). Well this foundation is wonderful on my older, now dry, fair skin. I apply it with my fingers over Smashbox primer (gives it a little more slip) and it morphs right into my skin. It stays on all day and doesn't accentuate my pores or lines. I do finish it with a light powder (Mally's tinted skin finisher). The color Ivory goes on a little light at first, but then warms up to my perfect shade. My skin hasn't looked this good in years. I tried this product because of all of the rave reviews on MakeupAlley. I have to say this is the best recommendation that I have gotten from this site. I am relieved to have found this foundation. It is perfect for me. It was extremely hot here today and I was running around with my kids, and this makeup still looks great.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Excellence Creme
rated 5 of 5
lindanail 3/6/2011 5:59:00 PM

I've tried almost all of the drugstore hair color brands and this one covers my grays the best! I have medium brown hair (naturally red highlights) and I use the plain light brown #6. I find this color looks a shade darker on me than on the box and my hair still comes out medium brown. I've also used 5AR Medium Maple Brown and that actually came out a lovely medium brown with a lot of red highlights. I used to try a lot of different hair color brands (loved Feria which doesn't cover gray well) when I was younger, but as I get older and get more gray hair, this is the only one that covers the gray and keeps it covered until the roots grow out.

Primer/ Corrector -Smashbox - Photo Finish Luminizing Primer
rated 5 of 5
lindanail 2/25/2011 9:06:00 PM

I have tried almost all of the Smashbox primers and I love this one the best!!!!! It is perfect for pale, older, dry skin gals like myself. But, I think it would work for other complexions and skin types as well. This is wonderful to put under fair foundation to add a little believable color. I also notice that it softens and smooths out the lines around my eyes as soon as I apply it. So it gives me much needed color and blurs the lines around my eyes. I can't ask for much more. And it also keeps my makeup looking fresh all day!!! I LOVE IT!!!!! P.S. I buy it in the travel size tube so that I don't have to mess with the pump.

Lip Liners -Smashbox - Wicked Lovely Doubletake Lip Color in Gossamer
rated 5 of 5
lindanail 5/29/2010 12:43:00 PM

I LOVE this pencil. I stock up on it constantly and wear it everyday. However, I can't wear it by itself. Just doesn't work when I line and then add the lip color. I have to line with this product (add any lipstick I fancy- Sandy B from Mac is my current fave)- blot, and then top it with the Gossamer lip color. It gives me Audrey Hepburn lips and stays on all day. I found the product a little boring and dry without lipstick in the middle. But this stick will enhance any pink or peach lipstick that you own. It will also soften and matify any lipsticks that are too bold (I can't wear Sandy B on it's own). I am very fair, and it is excellent for my complexion, but I think it would work well with deeper complexions if paired with a complimentary lipstick. And you can choose a moisturizing lipstick if you find it drying.

Primer/ Corrector -Maybelline - Instant Age Rewind Primer Skin Transformer
rated 3 of 5
lindanail 4/29/2010 2:16:00 PM

I've used a lot of expensive primers and this one does just as good of a job. It doesn't make you dewy or oily and helps makeup go on more easily. I mostly use it because my liquid makeup doesn't apply easily. This primer worked the best for helping my foundation glide on. Some of the other primers (Tarte Clean Slate) made me shiny and Smashbox broke me out. I'll update if I break out, but so far this one is working the best for me. UPDATE 2/25/11 I switched to Smashbox - PHOTO FINISH LUMINIZING PRIMER because it gives me a little color for my fair skin and softens the lines around my eyes.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara
rated 5 of 5
lindanail 7/31/2009 11:12:00 AM

PERFECT mascara. After trying many expensive brands, and drugstore brands- this is my favorite. It is almost impossible to make this clump when applying it. It goes on very smoothly and two coats, applied quickly and consecutively, lengthen and volumize my lashes. It is also easy to locate with its red container (in my makeup case or at Target where I buy it). I'm not going to try anything else (tired of wasting money) and I hope that they never discontinue this product.

Blush -Neutrogena - Sheer Highlight Blush - Fresh
rated 5 of 5
lindanail 7/29/2009 11:30:00 PM

PERFECT for fair skin. Can be used alone for a sheer, natural pink flush or layered over other blushes to make them look better. I went on a blush rampage quest and tried some very expensive ones, but this will be in my makeup kit from now on. It compares to more expensive blushes in almost every way (except for the cheap brush that comes with it- use your own blush brush and save that one for touch-ups). I am going to have to try the other shades of this product, just because the price is so reasonable and I am so happy that I discovered this.

Primer/ Corrector -Smashbox - Photo Finish Primer SPF 15 with Dermaxyl
rated 2 of 5
lindanail 7/12/2009 11:48:00 PM

I got this because I wanted a primer with spf in it. However, I can't figure out which ingredient in this product protects against UVA rays (smashbox says that it protects against both UVA/UVB rays). The ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: 7.5% Octinoxate (Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate), 5.0% Octisalate (Ethylhexyl Salicylate). are both UVB blockers. I emailed smashbox tonight asking what ingredient blocks out the UVA rays. I will share the answer when I receive it. I really hope that this does what it says because it is the only primer that I know of that has spf. P.S. Nobody ever answered my email and the Active Ingredients in this product are both UVB blockers.

Treatments -Nair - Hair Remover Cream for Face
rated 5 of 5
lindanail 7/5/2009 9:18:00 PM

I love, love, love this product. The older I've gotten, the more peach-fuzz I have on my face and I hate it. I put this all over my face and mouth and leave it on for the full ten minutes. Then I wipe it off with a baby wipe and rinse really good. I'm always a little red and irritated the first day, but after that my skin is so smooth and peach-fuzz free. I don't have sensitive skin, although I am very fair.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Blanc Type - Matte2
rated 3 of 5
lindanail 6/24/2009 11:14:00 AM

This shadow didn't work for me on my eyes. It is the perfect color as a base for my fair complexion, but it is too matte. It makes my eyes look dry and older. I much prefer Mac Brule, which is about the same shade- but a satin. Blanc Type, however, works as a great concealer on my fair complexion. It is a lot like B.E. bisque in a pressed form. The matte texture works great as a concealer and it really hides small blemishes and redness around the nose. I may repurchase this to use as a concealer.
