Polishes -Essie - Bahama Mama
rated 2 of 5

Normally I like Essie nail polishes and they last good 5 days on me. This one, however, was a disappointment. Even though I loved the color, the texture was way too runny and difficult to apply. Because of that, there was too much nail polish applied and it started to chip 2 days later (big chips, too!). Not a fan at all.

Fragrances -Viktor & Rolf - Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb

For the longest time I had a love/hate relationship with this fragrance. I loved it at first, but then hated it because it was a bit on the strong side. Then I loved it again (after I matured a bit and got tired of sweet floral fragrances) and still love it at the moment. It's definitely not for the faint of heart. It lasts a long time on skin (at least on me), so if you don't like it, you're stuck with it for quite a while. I don't know anything about base/end/etc notes, so can't comment on that. But I can tell that this fragrance is very musky. I can't spray it on myself, because a lot comes out and it's way too strong for me. Instead I got a teeny-tiny bottle with a cap as a gift with purchase and just refill it with fragrance when needed. When I feel like putting some perfume on, I just dab some on my wrists and behind ears. This way it's not too overpowering for me and others. My fiance loves when I wear it and he's really picky about fragrances. Even thought it's a beautiful fragrance, try it before buying it.

Polishes -Chanel - Allegoria 331
rated 4 of 5
likeafeather77 4/3/2010 8:01:00 PM

I love it. I'm a dark nail polish kind of girl, so light colors don't usually catch my attention. I also have white natural tips on my nails and light sheer polishes don't cover them up. This nail polish was a bit streaky during application, but not a complete pain where I couldn't deal with it. With 2 coats I was able to achieve full coverage (the tips were not visible). This color may be very neutral and basic (and easy to find from other brands), but I like Chanel's quality and will stick to it. Overall, it's a great nail polish and if you're looking for a nice classic look (and don't mind shelling out some $$), then definitely give it a try!

Polishes -OPI - Jade is the New Black
rated 4 of 5

This is my first green nail polish. I was super excited to try it as spring is here and I wanted to add something bright and unusual to my nails (green on nails is very unusual for me). The applications was a PAIN! It was streaky and just wouldn't lay right. I had to apply 3 coats in order to achieve full coverage. Maybe I got a defective bottle because I heard good things about application from others. I was sure the polish would chip the next day because I basically just piled it up (base coat + 3 coats of polish + top coat; I usually only do base coat + 2 coats of polish + top coat), BUT to my surprise, this lasted for a week!!!! I was shocked. It was nice and glossy and chip free for at least 5 days and with touching up the chipped area, it lasted 7 days. Awesome! I wouldn't buy it again though, because green is not my every day color. But if you want to try a great polish that last for a while, this is it!

Cleansers -Burt's Bees - Natural Acne Solutions - Purifying Gel Cleanser
rated 1 of 5
likeafeather77 12/1/2009 9:32:00 PM

After I read the reviews on here, I was so excited to try it! I didn't have a lot of acne at that point (one or maybe two small ones) but I wanted to use something that would keep it that way. I felt ok after using the cleanser for the first couple of days. My skin felt clean afterwards and I liked that feeling. But after 2-3 days of using it, I started breaking out like crazy. I don't think I've seen my face in this condition since I was a teenager. Horrifying! This was the only thing I changed in my skin regimen, so I'm pretty sure this cleanser is the cause. At first I thought that maybe the cleanser is bringing out the impurities in my skin, so I stuck to it for a week or so. But, nope, it just got worse and worse and worse. I went to a skincare store the other day and asked the sales associate if she would recommend anything for acne (now that I have a full-blown case of acne) that would also be gentle on the skin and she said no. The store does carry acne treatments but she wouldn't even let me see them because she said that if my skin is even a little bit sensitive, anything organically derived from plants (that was the only thing they had for acne) would most likely worsen my condition. Well, I think that's what happened with Burt's Bees cleanser. I'm sure it worked for some people, but for me it was a complete disaster... And forgot to mention the packaging... The consistency of this cleanser is VERY liquid-y. So, when you pour it out of the bottle, it's like pouring out water. You have to be super careful with it.

Powder -Jane Iredale - Amazing Base Loose Finishing Powder
rated 2 of 5
likeafeather77 4/2/2009 8:19:00 PM

Ok, I have to admit that at first I thought this product was amazing! But then it got bad... First of all, I was poorly matched (even though their color selection is great). It wasn't obvious but it did look too dark. Second of all, it's horrible for combo / oily skin because the skin starts to shine after only a couple of hours. So, unless I was putting powder every couple of hours, I was an oily mess. Finally, this doesn't have good coverage. My skin has a LOT of red in it, so good coverage is key. This does seem to cover somewhat ok when I first put it on but then it melts away and the red shows through. Overall, this doesn't work for me, so I won't be buying again.

Concealers -Amazing Cosmetics - Amazing Concealer

I've been on a lookout for a good concealer for a LONG time! After searching for a while and not finding anything, I gave up. But then one day I was browsing at Sephora and found this! The sales girl said it was the best concealer out there. Well, if it's the best, why not try it, right? Well, I wouldn't say it's the best - there has to be something better - but it's not bad at all! I use this for my undereye circles and it works really well! Since the texture is somewhat thick, I add a TINY bit of my daily moisturizer (Juice Beauty Moisturizer for Problem Skin) to the amount I usually use for under my eyes, mix them up in the palm of my hand and apply until desired coverage. I finish with powder (Jane Iredale PureMatte Powder), so the concealer doesn't "disappear". Once I put the concealer on in the morning, it stays on all day. I don't reapply or even worry about it "disappearing". Oh, and did I mention that their Fair color is THE perfect match for my skin??? I have such a hard time finding shades in foundations / concealers for my skin but this is perfect! So, why wouldn't I say it's the best concealer out there? Because it does crease a bit at first (when I apply and right after) but after I smudge it a little bit, it's fine. It's not a huge issue but it does get annoying because if I don't smudge, it looks unnatural. Overall, I recommend this concealer and will definitely buy it again once I run out!

Eye Shadow -Jane Iredale - Eye shadow
rated 5 of 5
likeafeather77 5/3/2008 12:24:00 PM

This is a good eye shadow that doesn't have harsh chemicals / toxic colors in it. I bought two trios - Cognac and Cloud Nine. Both combinations are great for every day wear (using two lighter colors) and night (using all three for a more dramatic look). The packaging is a plastic round container with three triangular eye shadow dishes inside. It doesn't come with a brush but it's not a big deal for me as I use my own brushes. It seems to me that the amount of the shadow here is very small compared to trios from other brands such as Chanel and Dior. But I can live with that as I know that none of it will get wasted or go bad after a while (eye shadows don't have a long life) since I use different colors every day. The price is reasonable to me as the quality is superior and the colors work very well together. I can't comment on staying power as I always put eye shadows on top of Urban Decay Primer Potion. With the primer underneath, it stayed on ALL DAY!! I didn't have to worry about creasing or anything like that and I have very oily lids! Bottom line - wonderful and I will definitely repurchase!!!

Lipstick -Jane Iredale - PureMoist LipColour SPF 18
rated 5 of 5
likeafeather77 5/3/2008 12:09:00 PM

I've decided to change my skin care and make-up completely to safer brands that use all natural / organic ingredients in their products. I heard great things about Jane Iredale cosmetics, so decided to give it a try. Well, I wasn't disappointed!!! I tried Lip Colour in Susan and it's the best color for me!!! It looks natural, stays on long and just gives me a healthy look! It's very easy to apply as it has moisturizers in it, so it just glides over your lips. Susan is a mauve / brown color and looks gorgeous on my very pigmented lips. There's no smell or anything that irritates my skin and I'm usually very sensitive to scents / harsh chemicals. After the lipstick wore off, it didn't dry out my lips like other lipsticks did, so that was a huge plus for me! The packaging is rich-looking, yet very simple. The tube is gold with "Jane Iredale" written around the ring in the mid section of the tube. Cute! I would definitely repurchase!

Blush -Physicians Formula - Organic Wear
rated 5 of 5
likeafeather77 5/3/2008 11:59:00 AM

I'm surprised this received so many bad reviews!!!! I LOVE this product! I tried pink organics (I'm fair with acne-prone skin). The brush is useless to me because I use my own brushes for everything but the packaging is great because it's "green" (less plastic than regular compacts). The blush itself is fabulous! It shows up beautifully on my skin and doesn't dry my skin out or make it flaky. It also hasn't made me break out yet and I've been using it for a couple of weeks. I do see women with darker skin having trouble using it as it probably wouldn't show up well because it's not as pigmented as, let's say, MAC. To make the color show more on me, I do have to layer it (not much but definitely a few layers) but it doesn't look cakey. The staying power is amazing! I put it on at 6:30 AM and it was still there at 6:30 PM without touch-ups. I do, however, put it on top of foundation and powder, so it adheres easier. Many reviewes say they can't tolerate the smell but I haven't noticed any smell at all. Bottom line - I love it and would definitely repurchase!

Concealers -BeneFit Cosmetics - Erase Paste in Fair
rated 2 of 5
likeafeather77 4/20/2008 7:29:00 PM

Unfortunately, this product didn't work for me. PROS - It covers dark circles very well. The key is to use a little bit of the product and blend according to instructions with your ring finger. The instructions are very important, so I would definitely read them before using it. CONS - Doesn't stay on long and creases after a little while, it's a bit pricey ($26 USD at Sephora) and the packaging could be better (a tube instead of a jar) for cleanliness purposes. But I guess since it's REALLY thick, tube packaging would not work? But dipping a finger into the jar doesn't sound too clean. I needed something that stayed on longer than a couple of hours, so I returned it.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Satellite Dreams

GREAT eye shadow! The texture is very smooth and the color is gorgeous (deep purple with shimmer). I'm fair with blue eyes and this eye shadow compliments my eyes very well and makes them POP (I pair this color with MAC's Yogurt). One of my all time favorite eye shadows.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Yogurt Eyeshadow
rated 5 of 5
likeafeather77 3/15/2008 3:26:00 PM

This is a GREAT eye shadow by MAC. It's a very pale pink with no shimmer at all. It goes on very smoothly and doesn't end up under my eyes during the application. I'm very fair with blue eyes and this shows up beautifully on me. I pair it with Satelline Dreams and the combo looks gorgeous!!! I would definitely repurchase if I ever run out.

Liquid -By Terry - Light Expert
rated 4 of 5
likeafeather77 3/15/2008 3:22:00 PM

This was an impulse purchase made at Sephora. I'm always on the look-out for a good foundation because it seems like there are not too many of them out there. I've been using this foundation for a little while now and it's good (NOT great, but good). The coverage is very sheer - a little more coverage than a tinted moisturizer. So, if you have a problem skin, this is not for you (unless you're not looking for good coverage). I have occasional pimples and lots of acne scars but I can never bring myself to use medium/full coverage foundations because they look so unnatural. So, this kind of coverage is what I go for. My skin is somewhat oily and peels a bit (after years if using drying acne products), so I have to blot throughout the day and reapply a bit by the end of the day, so the staying power is not great. The light pigment is what I love about this. Even though it's very sheer and you can still see some imperfections, it gives a really nice glow and makes my skin look somewhat even-toned, That is the reason why I prefer this foundation over Chanel Teint Innocent (also sheer but once it starts wearing off, it doesn't look like anything - no glow). I chose shade 101 and it's a wee bit darker than my skin tone (super fair with tons of redness) but still looks natural if blended well. I like this! Ok, editing to add that this is a dream come true (well, almost)!!! I finally found a foundation that goes on very smoothly, covers well, and gives me a glow. The trick is to layer. If you want very sheer coverage, then put a little but if you want more, keep layering it. It doesn't cake!! Three small cons (very small) though - the brush applicator that I do not like (use my own MAC foundation brush), the container that's no see through (can't see when you start running out! how annoying!), and the smell (it's not overpowering but it's not pleasant). But these cons are not enough to turn me off this HG! I LOVE it!

Eye Makeup Remover -Estee Lauder - Gentle Eye Makeup Remover
rated 1 of 5
likeafeather77 12/26/2007 11:02:00 PM

This is BAD!!!! Since my eyes are very sensitive, I decided to try a "gentle" eye make-up remover. Pros: all of my makeup (including Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner) came right off; great packaging; somewhat reasonable price. Cons: made my eyes sting at first, then itch, then turned them BRIGHT red. Maybe I was just having an allergic reaction to it (never had any reactions to any other makeup products) or maybe my eyes are just way too sensitive. Will not repurchase!
