Fragrances -Demeter - Hot Kiss - Sugar Addict
rated 4 of 5
leysa 6/7/2008 12:05:00 PM

This is one of the newer Demeters, from the Hot Kiss line. Sugar Addict is, as you might expect, a very sweet fragrance. But there's a little more to it than that. The initial note is a very strong butterscotch with a nice layer of caramel. Drydown is a definite mix of the two, with the caramel sort of smoothing out the butterscotch and just making it a very nice, warm foody scent. It reminds me a bit of Demeter's Dulce de Leche scent, but stronger and warmer. However, if you have Dulce, you'll probably find them similar enough to not warrant having both. This is pretty darn strong on application. As the day has gone on, it's faded slightly, but it's definitely still there. I think Demeter may have actually improved their formula a bit as this is going on 6+ hours and still smelling great.

Fragrances -Demeter - Tootsie Roll
rated 5 of 5
leysa 6/7/2008 12:01:00 PM

This is one of the newer Demeters, and I tried it out in a mini cologne splash size. I was not very fond of this when I first put it on - the main note I got was a very plastic, generic chocolate. But I gave it some time, and within about 20 minutes it had developed into a scent I knew very well. Sure, it smells kind of like Tootsie Rolls, but it's richer than that. In my opinion, this is a dead ringer for my beloved Suave Rich Cocoa, but in perfume form. Very good stuff. Rich chocolate, and all plastic/weird notes disappered entirely within 20 minutes or so. I also think Demeter may have improved their forumla slightly, as this lasted a good 6+ hours on me. We can hope..... :)

Polishes -OPI - Azure For Sure
rated 3 of 5
leysa 12/27/2006 4:21:00 PM

Azure for Sure is from OPI's Brights! Collection.

I am pretty indifferent on this.

It's a bright, shimmery turquoise. Nothing too unique or spectacular. My main problem with it was how thin it was; it took me three coats to get it even, and I don't like that.

Wear is as good as most OPI's, a couple of days with tip wear and no chips. Overall, this is just okay to me - there's better colors out there in this family to explore.

Polishes -China Glaze - Hes Going in Circles
rated 5 of 5

Love. Love. Love.

He's Going in Circles is from China Glaze's new Kaleidescope collection. These are all holographic colors. The difference is that they seem to be more 'blingy' than the OPI DS colors. I think I actually prefer the ChG ones.

He's Going in Circles is a mint green holographic. It doesn't LOOK as mint green on me until I put my hands near something - then you can tell what color it definitely is. It's very pretty though, and completely unique. The holographicness in this seems 'bigger' than in the OPI DS polishes, but it's not glittery, even though it appears that way in the bottle. This applies and dries completely smooth. In fact, it dries VERY quick - I had two coats on and totally dry in less than 7 minutes. Great stuff.

Wear has been great. No chips, peeling, etc. Huge thumbs-up from me for this color!

Polishes -China Glaze - Draped in Velvet
rated 5 of 5
leysa 9/7/2006 1:34:00 PM

I *love* this color.

Draped in Velvet is a new color for fall from China Glaze's "We Adorn You" collection.

This is a truly luxurious, sumputous color. The base color is a deep, rich reddish plum. It has a bit of silver sparkle to it, and hints of reddish and blue shimmer, but nothing too glittery. It's a subtle sparkle, just gives it some depth and makes it pop.

Draped in Velvet is completely opaque on one coat. I went for two coats just to deepen the color a bit. Absolutely gorgeous.

Like all China Glaze polishes, this applies easily and wears well. Huge thumbs up for this color.

Polishes -China Glaze - Anklets of Amethyst
rated 4 of 5
leysa 9/7/2006 1:26:00 PM

Anklets of Amethyst is a new fall color from China Glaze's "We Adorn You" collection.

This is a VERY pretty color. Depending on how many layers you want, it can either be a super-sheer glaze, a snazzy topcoat, or fully opaque. I did 3 coats and it's totally opaque. The base color is a true, light amethyst shade. It has a ton of shimmer and sparkle; I mostly see silver, medium pink, and aqua in the sparkles. It gives it a lot of depth, but it's NOT glittery - just very shimmery.

I actually like that this one can be built up to opacity because it was pretty just as a one-coat glaze. Like all China Glaze, this wears well and applies smoothly.

Polishes -Streetwear - Prince Charming
rated 5 of 5
leysa 8/10/2006 12:02:00 PM

This is, without a DOUBT, my favorite nail polish of all time. I've had it for years - an old roommate gave it to me for my birthday back when Streetwear was readily available. I absolutely adore it, and I am going to cry when I finally kill the bottle off. Which, sadly, will be soon because there's maybe 1/4 of an inch left. :(

Prince Charming is a pale blue, with maybe a touch of aqua in the mix. It has an intense gold metallic flash, and my favorite part -tons of iridescent microglitter. I *adore* this polish. It's completely unique, and I have never seen anything else like it.

Wear is not great, and neither is application, and I don't even care. :)

Polishes -NYX - Juliette
rated 4 of 5
leysa 8/10/2006 11:57:00 AM

I love NYX polishes. $3 a bottle, wide OPI DS style brush, great wear, and nifty colors.

Juliette is one of my more recent purchases. It's shockingly bright in the bottle, but on it's not as blinding. Juliette is a medium semi-sheer turquoise with a bit of a green and gold flash. Not as dark as NYX Jungle, and not as bright as ChG Passion in the Pacific - this is a nice in between shade that's not QUITE as over the top as some blue/green polishes.

Wear was good, about 4 days before I started getting tip wear. If I somehow ever used this up, I'd buy it again.

Polishes -OPI - Designer Series - DS Royal
rated 4 of 5
leysa 8/10/2006 11:50:00 AM

Royal is from the new set of OPI DS (Designer) Series of polishes. These are advertised as having a new 'pro-wide' salon brush and diamond particles.

Royal is probably my favorite of the new DS polishes. It's a true, bright purple base (blue-based) with tons of blue microglitter in it. It's not exactly holographic; it's more that it has an intense sparkle and shimmer to it in the light. It's got a great bright blue flash to it from the glitter. My only complaint is that this is SHEER. 3 coats are necessary for any sort of coverage, which sucks because it LOOKS dark in the bottle. Boo. But I like the color so much I'll put up with it.

I am a huge fan of the pro-wide brush - it's easy to get right upto the edge of your nail with no problems. The formula of the polish is smooth and it dries quickly. Lasting power is average, about 3-4 days.

Polishes -OPI - Designer Series - DS Dazzle
rated 4 of 5
leysa 8/10/2006 11:46:00 AM

Dazzle is from the new set of OPI DS (Designer) Series of polishes. These are advertised as having a new 'pro-wide' salon brush and diamond particles.

Dazzle is a VERY bright raspberry-pink with a ton of sparkle. Unlike the previous set of DS polishes, these are not holographic, just super-sparkly. I suppose it is glitter in it, but it comes off as a majorly sparkly, almost metallic finish. The sparkle in this one is corresponding bright raspberry pink, and at certain angles I see hints of gold, silver, and violet. It's a very pretty color, and great for summer.

I am a huge fan of the pro-wide brush - it's easy to get right upto the edge of your nail with no problems. The formula of the polish is smooth and it dries quickly. Lasting power is average, about 3-4 days.

Polishes -Urban Decay - nail enamel - midnight cowboy
rated 3 of 5
leysa 8/5/2006 12:57:00 PM

I have had UD's polish in Midnight Cowboy in both the old and new formulas, and I have to say that while the NEW formula wears better, the old formula had a better application and color.

Midnight Cowboy is basically a very neutral taupe/beige with tons of iridescent microglitter. The old formula was much more 'sparkly'.....this one has the glitter, but it seems more silvery than iridescent on. So I'm kind of sad about that.

This is also a 'bumpy' polish.....even Seche didn't smoothe out the finish. But it does wear well. So, overall, this is okay, but not fantastic.

Lip Gloss -NYX - Diamond Sparkle Gloss - Ginger Sparkle
rated 4 of 5
leysa 7/22/2006 12:19:00 PM

Loving this gloss!

Ginger Sparkle is from NYX's line of Diamond Sparkle glosses - which, from what I can tell, basically means it has a lot of shimmer to it. This particular color is a reddish-rosey-bronze tone with shimmer- it is absolutely gorgeous. Applies smoothly, doesn't dry out on my lips, and isn't gloopy at all. As the color gets faded, it leaves behind a nice hint of sparkle on your lips - nothing super-obvious or tacky, just a nice shimmer.

These glosses come in square tubes like the Revlon Superlusturous, with a clear base and black cap. They have a doe-foot applicator, but it's 'bent' slightly to make it easier to apply - I've never seen an applicator like this, but I really like it. No obvious scent. I'll be purchasing more of these, I'm sure.

Lipstick -NYX - Oh
rated 4 of 5
leysa 7/22/2006 12:15:00 PM

Oh! was my first NYX lipstick purchase, and it certainly won't be my last. Their formula is absolutely fantastic.

Oh! is a medium bronzey shade with golden shimmer, almost a little metallic, but sheers out nicely if you don't want the full-on metallic sheen. It applies completely smooth, doesn't stick to any dry spots you might have, doesn't sink into your lip lines, and in general feels fantastic on. As an added bonus, it leaves a nice 'stain' on your lips even when the color fades a bit. I was incredibly impressed.

NYX lipsticks come in a basic, unexciting black matte tube with a clear window on the top so you can see the color. My only complaint is that the lipstick has a slight scent to it that I just don't like - not bad, just not pleasing to me. But it fades as soon as it's on, so no big deal. I'll put up with it for the fantastic formula.

Polishes -NYX - Jungle
rated 4 of 5
leysa 7/22/2006 12:09:00 PM

I love love LOVE NYX polishes. They do not look, feel, or apply like $3 polishes.

That said, Jungle. My main disappointment with Jungle is the fact that you can't make it look like it does in the bottle. In the bottle, it's this fantastic, gorgeous shimmery emerald with gold shimmer. Sadly, it applies more of a blue-green with golden shimmer. It's still VERY pretty, but I would have loved it more had it turned out like it looks in the bottle.

NYX polishes apply smoothly, with a thick brush similar to the OPI DS series. Jungle is completely opaque after 2 coats.

Polishes -China Glaze - Sweet Revenge
rated 4 of 5
leysa 7/13/2006 4:23:00 PM

This is a pretty hot color!

Sweet Revenge is from China Glaze's Voodoo collection. The base color is a bright reddish-orange, and it has an intense goldish/orange shimmer. Almost metallic looking. It't definitely bright, and probably not for the super-pale, but it's a fun color for summer.
