Pressed Powders -LORAC - Perfectly Lit Luminizing Powder
lemjam 8/25/2008 9:54:00 AM
I have mixed emotions about this product. I just bought it last week along with LORAC Natural Performance Foundation (liquid foundation). The gal at Sephora convinced me that the shimmer powder looked fantastic on my mid-30 year old skin. I thought it did too, at first. Now, depending on different lighting, my pores are either insanely noticeable, I look like a disco ball, or I look great. I have a love/hate relationship with this powder, and am undecided about returning this product. Like I said, in some lights I like the way it gives me a glow, which is one look I was trying to achieve so badly with mineral makeup, but I also strive for a nice clean look since I do have some hyperpigmentation thanks to age/pregancies/etc. With that being said, this product is probably best left at saying you'd have to try it and make your own judgement for yourself. It may or may not give you the look you like. It did not break me out, which is awesome because I have a huge problem with make up doing that to my skin, and LORACS stuff is made for sensitive skin. (YAY!) I will probably return this because it's just me, and it made me a little self conscious depending on what light I'm in. (I often go with a natural look and wanted to even my skin out.... this is going a little overboard for me.) For the price, I should be 100% comfortable in wearing it.
Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Iconic High Definition Lash Curler Mascara
lemjam 8/25/2008 9:44:00 AM
I'm going to be one of the reviewers to bust the bubble on the great reviews. I have naturally long lashes, so I look for a mascara that thickens and helps hold curl. The gal at Sephora insisted this was the mascara for me. I'm not so convinced. I've applied this mascara several days in a row and have not found the desired thickness that I've been looking for, and yes, would consider returning it as well. It does define lashes, but not give me the dramatic effect I am looking for as my lashes are a feature I look to play up on my face. And I must admit, for the price and what I got, I am totally convinced you could find something that does the same job for a lot less $! OUCH! If you are looking for a good thickening mascara, this is not it. However, I did find that after a days worth of wear, it did stay and never did flake at all, which was nice. Since it did not give me the look I had hoped to achieve, it's back to the review section for me in hopes of finding my HG mascara. SIGH!
I sampled this product after a rave review as a great summer fragrance from a recent magazine. It IS a great summer fragrance - the floral notes, the floraly-woodsy scent that is left behind - it smells fantastic, and PERFECT for spring and summer! Very clean too... The ONLY downfall is it's lasting power. I had to literally have my wrist up to my nose in order to smell it about an hour after I had sprayed it on, (two squirts - one on each forearm) so it kind of defeats the purpose of perfume. Overall, it is a great scent though, perfect for spring and summer!
I bought this stuff last week, and I've used it every day since. Since it's spring, I was hoping to find something to add a little "brightness" to my face. I don't like to tan my face, so I rely on make up products to give me a bit of natural color. (I am fair to medium complected with acne prone skin - I don't tan well, I usually burn and stay red.) This stuff is awesome! I apply it to the top of my nose, my upper cheek bones, the little divot above my lip, my chin, and the arch right under my eyebrow to brighten that spot as well, and to give my eyes a little pop. A little goes such a long way, so the $22 price tag doesn't seem quite so steep when you see how many applications this will last you. I also pair it with Nars Laguna bronzing powder applied to the rest of my face, and I look fresh and summery - not heavily made up. No break outs have resulted from the use of this product, and it's a must have for my make up kit. Not too glittery, gives just the right sheen.
I have fallen in love with almost every product in the GloMineral line. GloLiquid Lips is no exception. They have a fun array of colors, and this gives your lips incredible shine without the stickiness of some other brands. I find this to be so moisturizing as well. I have a nice nude color and will be picking a great color to enhance my lips for spring next time I visit my salon.
I got a free sample of this from Lancome when I ordered their mascara. I was so glad they sent this gorgeous color! I have fair to medium skin with pink undertones. I don't typically wear bright or dark lipsticks - I stick with some pinks, peaches and neutrals. This is a gorgeous color that smells absolutely fantastic. I didn't find it to be as sticky as MAC's lipglass either... which is a huge bonus for me. The color is beautiful - and it's one that I will definitely be buying again. It's just the perfect shade of peach and pink. VERY pretty and a HG lipgloss for me! Nice and moisturizing too...
I have naturally long lashes, but have been on the search for a product to really thicken. I really found I had better luck with Definicils when it came to thickening than Hypnose. Hypnose didn't flake and smude, so I was very impressed with those factors, however, I was disappointed by the fact that it didn't enhance the thickness as I had hoped it would. For me, I wouldn't buy this again just because I didn't find that it gave me what I had looked for, but it really did a good job of not clumping, flaking or smudging. I'll give it kudos for that.
In my endless pursuit for a great all over facial bronzer, I was referred by the gals on the m/u board to try Laguna. While online shopping at Sephora - I came across this awesome little duo and thought I'd give it a try since I had heard so many fab things about the Orgasm blush too. I am so glad I bought this! Not only was it a great way for me to try two highly recommended products, it is so nice to carry two must-haves in one small compact! The Laguna isn't flashy or glittery by any means - it gives a nice color to my skin without looking orangey. I have a fair to medium complexion with pink undertones, and I do not tan easily - I turn red. This looks great on me and I've had compliments on my skin when I've been wearing it. The Orgasm blush is a beautiful color that just livens up your face a little bit - doesn't look fake or orangey or too pinky or peachy. I find that this is awesome for summer make up - both products. They really do compliment each other when worn together! I think it's totally cool they've combined them into one. These are both my HG product as far as bronzer and blush. I have acne prone skin and have only been able to wear GloMinerals pressed powder base - everything else makes me break out. I have not had any breakouts with Laguna or Orgasm, and I've been using them for a good two months now. :)
The ONLY thing holding me back from giving this uber-rave reviews is the lasting power. I have the worst luck when it comes to perfume - so many turn on me. I like a clean, fresh scent, and the more I smell this on me, the more I absolutely love it. I notice that it doesn't have much staying power. (Maybe my nose just gets used to it? I can't tell) I haven't checked to see if there is a lotion to use with it, but if there is, you'd definitely want it to help this wonderfully, fresh scent last. I love it. It's not too fruity or sweet, just very pretty. Whenever I catch a whiff on it from my clothes, it's like, "Ahhhhh". I dunno, one of my absolute faves. I just wish it lasted longer....
Moisturizers -Aveeno - Positively Radiant anti-wrinkle cream
lemjam 3/6/2007 8:26:00 AM
I'm shocked by the low reviews this product got too. I bought this after needing a nice gentle lotion/cream for my face after being told I had eczema on my eyelids. This product was one of the only lotions I could find that didn't contain tons of alcohol in it, so I bought it. I love it! It's so smooth and it soaks right in, doesn't leave a topical greasy residue, and my skin feels so soft and moisturized throughout the day without being greasy. I have acne prone skin too, and I've yet to break out. I use it morning and night and really like it! I haven't noticed a whole lot in the wrinkle claims - I didn't buy it for the anti-wrinkle properties. I just wanted something moisturizing that didn't cause a mass of zits to form. This is a HG for me now - doesn't burn, soaks in, feels good, price is reasonable - I'm sold! (I just wish wish you didn't have to dip your fingers into it to get the lotion out - a pump dispenser would be nice, but in a pinch you can use something to scoop what you need out) You don't need a lot of this stuff. Oh - doesn't have much of a smell... so that's another great plus!
Cleansers -Aveeno - Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser
lemjam 3/6/2007 8:21:00 AM
I've been looking for a great, gentle cleanser. I have eczema on my eyelids, and was trying to find a very gentle cleanser that wouldn't irritate my skin and make it dry and tight. Through a recommendation on the boards here, I checked out Aveeno products and bought this cleanser. I have acne-prone combination skin. Two pumps from the bottle and it's plenty to clean my face. It definitely feels clean, leaves no residue, but this is the first cleanser I have tried that really did not leave my face stripped and feeling tight. I've had no breakouts, no problems with the eczema. This is definitely my HG cleanser now - and nice to know there is a fab product out there that doesn't cost a fortune! It's worth checking out in my opinion!
Fragrances -Elizabeth Arden - Curious by Britney Spears

I just bought this perfume this afternoon. I really liked the smell of the perfume (the box had a scratch and sniff sticker, so no, I couldn't do the try before I buy bit. Well, regardless, it smells FANTASTIC. It's light, and I catch myself getting the occasional whiff of it, and man, it's a fresh and fun scent. Not kiddyish, not too sweet, but just fresh is about the best way for me to describe it. It definitely lifts my mood. I sure hope I don't have the experience some of the previous posters had with the scent turning alcoholy after a few months - as far as the scent goes, I'm very pleased with it! I'd have to rate packaging down the road, but that's not that important to me. I just wanna smell good, and this sure fit the bill!
Have to agree - mags rave about how make up artists love this stuff. I had to wonder if I bought the wrong mascara after using it. As a previous poster reported, yes, all it does is paint the lashes black. You get no fullness, no thickness, and it stays wet for awhile after applying and it smudges and leaves black marks when you blink, etc. I'm pitching it and will definitely head back to Lancome for my HG mascara.
Powder -Prescriptives - AnyWear Multi-finish compact foundation
lemjam 1/26/2007 8:41:00 AM
After going to the PX counter to score the highly recommended under eye concealer, the girl at the counter talked me into this powder foundation. I was pleased with the wear. I normally wear mineral makeup that I love and though I'd try this as an alternate. It wore well, gives nice coverage, but for what you pay? Rip-off. I don't wear make up daily, but I went through this make up in no time. My mineral make up compact lasts me a YEAR and costs $3 more, and I'm more so pleased with that. The packaging feels VERY cheap, and the compact is deceiving - looks like you're getting a lot of product, but no - there's a big sponge in there and very little powder, and drop it once? Cheapy packaging doesn't hold up for squat. (What's left in my compact broke to pieces) The make up itself was ok, but you should get much more that what you pay for here. Won't be buying again - will stay true to my GloMinerals base.
Treatments (Eye) -MD Forte - skin rejuvenation eye cream
lemjam 1/24/2007 6:20:00 PM
I'm 35, fair to medium skin tone - getting some fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. I bought this product b/c of the rave reviews on the board. The packaging is nice - a small dab works, but I think my eyes look even worse than they did before I used it. I've used it for about two weeks, and I have red, raw skin on the side of my eye and under it. If I cry or sweat, it stings terribly. I've really noticed that while using this as an eye cream, my concealer really settles into the fine lines and doesn't look so hot. Must say I wasn't impressed with this product. I converted to Clarins and am going to use something from them that will help my eyes 'repair' and do what I had intended this product to do - help with fine lines and wrinkles. This was not a nice experience.
