Ok, guys, I have huge, thick African-American hair. While straightened, it's very fine believe it or not. I started using this after visiting Maxine Salon in Chicago. The stylist used Shu Uemura Shusu Sleek plus the Kerastase and SU Essence Absolue. My hair was so straight, smooth and shiny! You really don't need that much. I use the size of a peanut (two nutted pod lol) on my entire head mixed in with two pumps of SU. I've noticed that my hair is bone straight, which is kind of unflattering for hair that hasn't been trimmed in over a month. Then I remembered that I was using this product! Seriously guys, it works.

Skincare - Face -Clinique - 3 Step System

Honestly, you have to try this product for at least two weeks. I'd been using various Boots brands to combat oily skin and hormonal breakouts. While my skin felt very nice with Boots, it didn't do much in the way of smoothing out the texture. I tried the clarifying lotion in #3 and the moisturizing gel at a friend's house a few weeks ago because I'd forgotten my own skin care products. The next morning, I noticed that bumps around my nose/cheek area were completely gone! So naturally I decided to try this out. My skin is oily combination where my forehead is extremely dry, but my nose is extremely oily, so I'm formulation #3 for the most part. The first thing I noticed upon using the cleanser is that a patch showed up on my cheek as if it was too harsh for me. The second thing I noticed is that gel didn't do a good job of making my skin feel moisturized. My poor forehead felt like it was being pulled for hours after use, but the oily areas were just fine. Another thing is after a week of use, I noticed that I was breaking out into small bumps and two pimples. Because I'd paid a whopping $61.50 for the set, I wasn't going to give up on it so soon. When I moved to a more humid climate (S. Carolina), the moisturizer still had changed. I couple this with the vanishing day cream by Boots and my skin looks like it's glowing. Quite a few of the bumps are gone and so are those pimples. My skin definitely looks more even than it ever had and hormonal breakouts weren't as bad as before. For the record, I'm not on birth control pills. Also, the price really isn't too expensive considering the result you get if you ride out the initial breakouts for at least two weeks. I use 1 pump of the cleanser, 2-3 dips of the lotion and 2 pumps of the moisturizer. I can easily see this set lasting for at least 9 months. The only reason why this gets a 4 rating is because the gel makes my face feel like it's been frozen for two days. I'll provide a skin update in a month. EDIT I've been using this for almost a month and my skin is nearly faultless. The moisturizing gel works with your skin after continual use.

Moisturizers -Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel
rated 4 of 5

I've been on the lookout for a simple and consistent skincare routine, so I decided to try out Clinique's. First, I have combination skin with most of the oil congregating on my nose :( So there was quite a problem in assigning my number, particularly whether I should use the lotion or gel. Using the gel I've noticed that it leaves the dry parts of my face incredibly tight. However, the oily parts (nose and cheeks) are still matte by the end of the day. So, I decided to double up with my Boots moisturizer and this one and my face has never been happier. The pump is the best and so is the smell.

Mascara -Lancome - Definicils Precious Cells
rated 5 of 5

The original definicils used to be a favorite of mine. When my financial situation worsened, I switched to Glam Eyes by Rimmel. I didn't know until reading the reviews here that this was supposed to aid in retaining lashes. So I was using it as a regular mascara. As that, it's great. It separates my lashes, make them look fuller and as a bonus, it lengthens the lashes on my left eye. I'm not one for drama, but this mascara makes my lashes look beautiful. Using this has inspired me to use mascara everyday. I will say that $30 is a bit much, but when the only makeup one wears is mascara and eyeliner, then it isn't a deal breaker.

Toners -Boots - Original Beauty Formula Skin Tonic [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
lavinder11 5/25/2010 12:56:00 AM

I use the entire Boots original line, with the overnight cream included. Using this toner did not dry my skin. It smells nice (like roses) and the packaging is cute. It's in a glass, old fashioned tonic bottle. Picture old whiskey bottles from Western movies. The one thing I do not like about it is that you have to hold the entire bottle to get the product out. It's heavy and could easily fall down if your hands are slippery. Other than that slight mishap, I love this.

Moisturizers -Boots - Original Beauty Formula Rose Vanishing Day Cream
rated 5 of 5
lavinder11 5/25/2010 12:51:00 AM

Let me start by saying I thought I found my dream moisturizer in Mario Badescu. I have oily skin, so moisturizing it is always a pain. Lately with my last moisturizer I noticed it wasn't working as well. I was running out, so I ran to Target looking for something natural. I came across Boots Original. Since the original formulation has been in affect since the 1800s I figured that would be the best choice. I applied it at 12 and by 9 PM, my face was still moisturized and oil pocket free. The worst part of my face, my nose, wasn't dripping in sweat and oil. Hopefully these products will continue to work for me because they are a Godsend.

Cleansers -Boots - Original Beauty Formula Cleansing Milk
rated 5 of 5
lavinder11 5/25/2010 12:45:00 AM

Typically with nontraditional cleansers (gels, powders, lotions, etc) I don't feel especially clean. If something doesn't foam or lather I still feel dirty. With this cleansing milk I felt very fresh. My skin was supple as well. Using the milk is a bit strange, but I can get used to it. I will buy this again.

Mascara -Lancome - Definicils Mascara
rated 5 of 5

I bought this mascara for four dollars cheaper =) I would definitely buy it for full price when I run out. Usually, putting on mascara is the only thing I do to my face and this one works wonders. I have relatively long eyelashes. This mascara pulls them way out. My right eyelashes work better with mascaras. With this one, my left was on par with the right! It doesn't increase the volume of my lashes though, but that's fine. I will be buying this again.

Lip Treatments -DuWop - Prime Venom

My lips are huge - I did not need this. However, I liked the smell and the packaging was cute so I dived in. Got it from eBay for only 16 dollars (shipping included) and tried it on last night.... I was OK. When I woke up in the morning, my lips were definitely at least 10% bigger and it had a cute 'pouty' look. Honestly, I wouldn't buy this at full price or with a discount. I just don't need it.
