Sunscreen -Ocean Potion - FACE Potion Clear Zinc SPF 45
lakegin 4/11/2011 9:52:00 AM
Really like this. I'm always on the lookout for a high spf for my face that doesn't break me out, make me too oily, or irritate my sensitive skin. I have been using this for about a month now and it has been great. I use this on days when I will be working out in the yard or going out on the lake, so I have not worn this under make up. But it doesn't irritate at all, it doesn't make my skin any more oily than usual, and I haven't had any unusual breakouts. I burn very easily, and this has been great and held up all day (6-7 hours in the yard/garden.) You do have to rub it in really well and a little bit goes a long way. If I apply too much it will end up kind of sloughing off. I'm fine with the tub container, as my hands are always clean when I apply. Will definitely re-purchase and keep this product around.

Lip Gloss -DuWop - Lip Venom
lakegin 4/6/2011 10:46:00 AM
I really love this product, although I have been out of it for a while and haven't repurchased, so it is not something that I have to keep on hand at all times. It is a splurge for me. I have very full lips to begin with, but I am obsessed with glosses, balms, and chapsticks. This temporarily plumps your lips by increasing bloodflow, which also brings more color to your lips. I love the tingle and it doesn't bother me at all, but it may be too much for some. The plumping effect is noticeable, but more than that I like how it smooths out my lips. Even though I am only in my mid-to-late twenties I have some fine lines on my lips and this product really helps to smooth those out with the plumping effect. So, while this is not an everyday use kind of product, I do like it for nights out and special occassions and will repurchase.

Fragrances -Marc Jacobs - Daisy Eau de Parfum
lakegin 4/6/2011 9:52:00 AM
I really like this fragrance and it stays in my regular rotation. I like this for daytime in the spring and summer, as it is light and airy. I don't think it is too overpowering or strong, which is really important to me. I live in a hot, humid location, so some scents can be almost choking. I honestly can't speak about any scent notes, as I have no idea, I'm not someone who can identify those things. Even reading the scent notes in a product description I have a hard time smelling those specific notes. I either like something or I don't! This is a keeper for me.

Primer/ Corrector -Rimmel - Fix and Perfect Foundation Primer
lakegin 4/6/2011 9:39:00 AM
As a primer/corrector I think this product did okay. I did notice some of my pores minimized. But this really made me look orange. I purchased the lightest shade, and it initially goes on fine, but after a few minutes I looked discolored. My foundation would sometimes be able to hide the discoloration, but it still didn't look great. Sometimes I would wear the primer alone for mattifying/pore concealing purposes and I looked VERY orange. Wanted to love it, but I will not be repurchasing.

Lip Treatments -Blistex - DCT for lips - Daily Conditioning Treatment SPF 20
lakegin 4/5/2011 9:06:00 PM
Love. I always have one of these around and it has never failed me. I am a lip product junkie, but moreso for balms, chapsticks, and glosses, rather than actual lipstick. I only own one actual lipstick, for times when I really need to feel polished, as I'm pleased with my natural lip color. DCT is a product that I just keep coming back to, no matter how many other things I try. It goes on smoothly, has no noticeable taste, very slight tingle, and I don't have to reapply too often. I also love that it has SPF. I use DCT when my lips are normal to slightly chapped, and go to my other HG lip balm (Blistex Medicated, in the blue pot) when my lips need a little more TLC.

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Plus White - 5 Minute Speed Whitening Gel
lakegin 4/5/2011 2:56:00 PM
Love this. My new HG whitener. My teeth are pretty white to begin with, but do experience some staining from red wine. Like many others I purchase mouthguards from the sports section (youth size, since adult looked too large) and prepared those as the directions said. I take a q-tip and kind of run it over my teeth to take away some of the moisture, then use the other end to apply the gel. I just use a tiny amount (about the size of the q-tip head) to cover all of my upper OR lower teeth, whichever I'm whitening at teh time. I have never experienced any of the foaming like other posters or like I have seen in some beauty videos. I think this is because of using the mouthguards/tray, and using a small amount. I only whiten once every two weeks, as this is enough for my needs. I have been very pleased with the results, and with the price I now prefer this to the old whitestrips I was using.

Polishes -Unlisted Brand - Pure Ice Scandal
lakegin 1/10/2011 9:12:00 PM
Think this is a great dupe for Lincoln Park After Dark. I do my own pedicures and this has been on for over two weeks now with zero chipping. I can't even remember if I put a top coat on. Goes on smoothly, two thin coats was more than enough to cover, great control with the brush, will definitely re-purchase.

Polishes -Unlisted Brand - Pure Ice - Nail Polish

I have several colors of the Pure Ice brand and love it. I wasn't expecting much when I first purchased, as I just wanted to try a trendy color I usually wouldn't wear (a dove gray,) but it turned out great. It takes two coats for full opaque coverage, but that is the case with any polish. It goes on smoothly, no bubbles, no streaking, and lasts better than some of my more expensive polishes. This is now my go to brand.

Shampoo -Pureology - Pureology Hydrate Shampoo
lakegin 1/4/2011 8:11:00 PM
Love this shampoo. I bought this after my Coppola Keratin Treatment, as it was recommended by my stylist. This is also what she had been using on my hair every time I came in for a cut, but until my keratin I had no real justification to spend that much money on a shampoo. This shampoo lathers so well, a little bit goes a long way. I have long, thick hair (middle of my back) and I use between a dime and nickel size amount. That is plenty! I love how clean it makes my hair/scalp feel and I love the smell. I also suffer with occassional dandruff, but this takes care that as well! After one shampoo I have zero flakes, where it would take two or three shampoos with my T-Gel or Head and Shoulders. It is pricey, but because a little goes a long way I will continue to re-purchase.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Prosacea

I have derm. diagnosed rosacea but my flare ups are so occasional I don't find it beneficial to purchase an Rx. When I do have flare ups this works really well. The smell isn't the best, but after a while I don't notice it. I use this morning and night during flare ups (I just get extremely red in the cheeks and they *burn*, no breakouts) and they don't seem to be as intense and it goes away more quickly. For the price/results I definitely keep a tube around.

Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup
lakegin 12/28/2010 2:18:00 PM
This has been a great everyday (cheaper) alternative to my MUFE HD Velvet Mat. A little goes a long way and coverage is buildable. I have never seen a pump version as some people have, but I just pour a small amount of foundation on the back of my hand and pick up from there. It does waste a little bit of product, as I usually overestimate how much I will need. I get the best coverage from a stippling brush.

Skincare - Face -Clean & Clear - finishes even tone cleanser
lakegin 7/9/2010 8:50:00 AM
I don't know what it is about this cleanser but it makes me break out in whiteheads. I will get minimal breakouts around my time of the month in my chin area, but a day or two after using this I breakout on my forehead, nose, cheeks, everywhere. Very unusual for me. I let it clear up and tried the cleanser again a week later with the same result. Nothing else in my routine changes, so I can only think this is the culprit.

Really wanted to like this, but it made me look oily and led to breakouts. Coverage was good and felt lightweight.

Lipstick -MAC - Blankety
lakegin 2/16/2010 11:34:00 AM
This is my HG lipstick. It is the only actual lipstick that I ever wear, I am a chapstick and gloss addict. I have very full lips and could never find a color that worked for me. I also have fair skin and very pigmented lips, so any color made me look like a clown. I prefer my natural lip color, so I mainly use clear or pale pink/nude glosses. This is the first lipstick that I felt complimented my lip color. I apply with a light hand (otherwise it will be a little *too* nude) and it provides just enough contrast and color to make my look finished/polished.
