Concealers -Christian Dior - Diorskin Nude Skin Perfecting Hydrating Concealer
rated 3 of 5
ktbeta 11/1/2011 12:18:00 PM

I really like this concealer because it comes in a shade light enough for my NC10/15 skin and it provides moderate coverage with a non-cakey finish. It's pricey but I would pay it except for one problem - it's totally gone within a few hours. I've tried various setting powders and even though my foundation looks great at 5pm, my concealer has disappeared. Really disappointing.

A great lightweight foundation that provides a stellar glowy (not oily or dewy) finish. What's not to love?

Gels/Soaps -mark - Fresh Approach body cleanser
rated 2 of 5
ktbeta 9/14/2010 1:04:00 AM

I received this product as part of a BzzAgent campaign, and even though it was free I have virtually nothing good to say about it. It smells like old cucumber and castor oil -- nothing like what I expected from the description on the bottle. The cleanser is so-so and the packaging looks and feels cheap. Despite all the fair trade talk most of the ingredients are the same as any other drugstore body wash. There's also a lot of debate (among economists) as to whether fair trade is even a good concept in the long run. Considering the product and the price tag, I would never purchase these.

I received this product as part of a BzzAgent campaign, and even though it was free I have virtually nothing good to say about it. It smells like sunscreen, not the lush cocoa butter smell I expected from the front label. It's not particularly moisturizing, and the packaging is extremely cheap looking and feeling. Despite all the fair trade talk most of the ingredients are the same as any other drugstore lotion. There's also a lot of debate (among economists) as to whether fair trade is even a good concept in the long run. Considering the product and the price tag, I would never purchase these.

Masks -Paula's Choice - Skin Balancing Carbon Mask
rated 1 of 5

OUCH! Paula, this stuff burns like a mother. I couldn't even leave it on for the recommended 10-15 minutes because my face was stinging so much. Now my face is bright red and quite irritated. Hopefully this won't last long! EDIT: Paula's Choice contacted me (through my blog) to say that they are reformulating this product because a good portion of people have the burning/stinging reaction. They said 0 testers have had that reaction with the new formulation. I'll test the new product and report back!

Liquid -NARS - Sheer Glow Foundation
rated 5 of 5
ktbeta 7/17/2010 3:57:00 AM

I straight up love this foundation. I don't throw the word around often, but this is HG material for me. I have combo skin that can be dry around the edges and this makes my skin look amazing as long as I moisturize first. It's been a godsend because it has no sunscreen included, which can cause breakouts for me. It is, however, packed with silicones, and those cause breakouts for others. My skin loves them. This can be light-medium or medium-full coverage depending on your application. I find fingers are best, or use some kind of a buffing motion rather than a swiping motion.

Styling Products -TRESemme - Fresh Start Dry Shampoo for Oily/Straight to Normal Hair
rated 1 of 5
ktbeta 7/7/2010 7:05:00 PM

THEY SAY A waterless oil and odor remover with mineral clay and citrus, perfect for oily/straight to normal hair. Removes oil and odor while injecting volume. Not tested on animals and made in the USA. Ingredients: Hydrofluorocarbon 152A, Alcohol Denat., Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Magnesium Stearate, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Benzyl Alcohol, PPG-3 Benzyl Ether Myristate, Fragrance (Parfum), Silica Dimethyl Silylate, PVP, Kaolin, Linalool, Limonene, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Amyl Cinnamal, Hexyl Cinnamal, Citronellol, Geraniol, Glycerin, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel Extract. I SAY I hate this product. I’ve tried using it several times now and all it does is gunk up my hair and make it sticky. Maybe they switched things up in the factory and accidentally put hairspray in this bottle, because that’s basically what it feels like. On the good side, it does have a somewhat pleasant citrus smell buried underneath all the alcohol. I used this on my straightened hair today and my hair was so immobile that i had to put in a headband and pretend it’s normal to have helmet hair. I’m giving up on this product completely as I just can’t deal with any more bad hair days. THE BREAKDOWN Spare yourself this product. You don’t need it, and you’ll probably hate it. Spend $2 more and get the Batiste pack from Ulta with a full size and mini bottle. Sorry, Tresemme.

Lip Treatments -Korres - Lip Scrub
rated 1 of 5
ktbeta 5/11/2010 12:07:00 AM

I have dry lips that need daily exfoliation and I was hoping this convenient tube product would do the trick. Unfortunately it didn't do much in the way of exfoliation, it tasted like crap, and it smelled horrible! Back to Sephora. I will just use plain coconut oil and sugar next time for much less money.

Eye Shadow -NARS - Abyssinia
rated 5 of 5
ktbeta 5/11/2010 12:04:00 AM

I thought this was an excellent product -- very blendable and highly pigmented. Unfortunately the color is about the same as my skin (NW12), so it didn't make a good highlighter. I'm giving a good rating anyway because the color choice was my fault and I think this would be great on medium or darker skintones. I also have a problem with the packaging, as I hate to have a bunch of single e/s laying around and it shows EVERY fingerprint. I wish NARS made empty palettes!

Cleansers -Sephora - Cleansing Water
rated 1 of 5
ktbeta 5/11/2010

I returned this to Sephora after 1 use because the smell was disgusting. Maybe I had a bad bottle, but it basically smelled rancid and I couldn't bear to apply it to my face. Had to wash after using just to get rid of the smell and gross feeling on my skin.

Highlighters -Fresh - Twilight Freshface Glow
rated 2 of 5
ktbeta 5/10/2010 11:59:00 PM

This product was fairly expensive compared to other items in the brand, and I did not feel it was worth the price at all. Did not particularly smooth skin or minimize pores as advertised. It gave me a bit of a glow at first, but that quickly turned into shine. It felt really gross on my skin (underneath NARS Sheer Glow, which always feels great) and I couldn't wait to wash it off. I also thought the smell was pretty gross. I'll be returning this item as I can't even bear to finish the tube.

Eye Primer -BeneFit Cosmetics - Stay Don't Stray
rated 2 of 5
ktbeta 3/25/2010 1:20:00 PM

Received a generous sample from Sephora and was excited to try this out as I don't really like the UD eye primers. Applied this both under eyes and on lids since I have trouble with creasing. I was so disappointed!! My eyeshadow looked okay, but my concealer was creasing within 10 minutes, and the eyeshadow had all but disappeared within a few hours. I'm glad I didn't purchase this, and I never will.

Polishes -New York Color - Grand Central Station clear nail polish
rated 4 of 5
ktbeta 3/1/2010 11:33:00 PM

Great, cheap top coat. Makes my manicures last for 3-4 days even with heavy typing. Dries fast! I love the wide brush, too; reminds me of the OPI pro-wide brushes. Would repurchase again and again.

Cleansers -Philosophy - Purity Made Simple (Real Purity Cleanser)
rated 2 of 5
ktbeta 1/31/2010 6:31:00 PM

Overall: 2/5 Price: 4/5 Packaging: 3/5 Although this product claims to be fragrance-free, it is by no means unscented. It has a strong scent that I found unpleasant; a combination of rose oil and black pepper oil. Those ingredients irritated and inflamed my admittedly sensitive skin. After a few uses my face was uncomfortably dry and flaky because this cleanser had stripped all the oils, so the claim of hydration is null in my case. Definitely would not repurchase, and this product soured me on the entire Philosophy line for almost two years.

Polishes -Zoya - Sweet
rated 1 of 5
ktbeta 1/21/2010 7:51:00 PM

I wanted to love this polish because the color is so pretty, but the application was horrible over my Essie First Base Coat. Incredibly streaky even with 3 coats and bled all over my nail area. I have some other Zoya cremes and they're lovely. No idea what happened with this one. I purchased directly from Zoya so it shouldn't have been an old bottle, maybe they reformulated? I'm going to return this if I can because it was such a disappointment.
