Deodorants -Unlisted Brand - Drysol - Dab-on Antiperspirant
krystalc 4/29/2012 11:58:00 AM
Back in highschool I had very bad anxiety (and raging hormones) that caused me to sweat... a lot. It would start the second I started walking to school and wouldn't quit until I got home. It was absolutely horrible and caused even more anxiety that made me sweat even more! Drysol stopped the sweating but I'm not sure the discomfort was even worth it. It itched, it burned, my armpits were constantly bright red and irritated, and it ATE A HOLE in my pajama shirts even if I used a blowdryer to dry it first. Now, five years later, I don't have problems with sweating at all, and I honestly would not recommend Drysol to anyone other than those with the worst sweating ever.

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 30
krystalc 3/20/2012 12:40:00 AM
The best >SPF 20 sunscreen I've found so far. It has a smooth, dry finish, it's very matte, and it has a mild powdery scent. I swear my skin actually looks better with this on. The one big con for me is that it tends to sting if it gets in my eyes, especially if I sweat. It's still my go-to sunscreen, I just try to apply very carefully around my eyes and use a physical sunscreen (I like Stila's new SPF 20 TM) on that area.

Shave Products -eos - Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream in Vanilla Bliss
krystalc 3/9/2012 2:47:00 PM
I actually liked this quite a bit. Very rich and creamy, nice smell, not tested on animals, moisturizing, and no more razor burn. However, there are a few things that are preventing me from buying again. I went through it pretty fast and the pump stopped dispensing product when the container was still like 1/8 full. Also, the cocoa butter or whatever completely clogged up my razors after a couple weeks no matter how carefully I rinsed, causing me to go through them twice as fast as I usually do! I'm going to try Aveeno's oatmeal shaving cream next instead.

Sunscreen -Ombrelle - SPF 60 Face Cream with Mexoryl XL
krystalc 2/18/2012 6:37:00 PM
I bought this while on a trip since I forgot my neutrogena dry touch face sunscreen, and I couldn't find any. HUGE MISTAKE! It is absurdly shiny and greasy feeling. Absolutely cannot use on my face, even with powder over top. Such a waste of money. I don't even like using it on my body.

Mascara -Clinique - Lash Power
krystalc 12/29/2011 3:37:00 PM
This is the mascara of my dreams! I have very fine, long lashes, and I love mascaras that enhance those particular qualities. Think "doe eyed"; delicate, long, and defined, not thick, clumpy, or unnatural. The fact that its smudge proof and fairly easy to remove is a huge bonus, since I have a bad habit of rubbing my eyes and I don't like to use heavy duty makeup removers. ETA: When I first wore this to work, the very second my co-worker saw me she exclaimed "You have a new mascara!!!". Yeah, it's good.

Liquid -MAC - Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15
krystalc 11/29/2011 2:43:00 AM
My first bad review. I tried this back when I had really horrible acne and was looking for some serious coverage. It showed tons of dry flaky areas I didn't even know I had, and it looked yellowy despite the shade matching my skin tone in other products. The consistency was very thick and difficult to blend properly, making it look extremely caked-on, no matter how little product I attempted to use. It felt grossly heavy and smelled strange, and dried out my skin terribly, making it even more oily! It's stupid that a purposefully high-coverage foundation is so bad for acne-prone skin. It turned me off liquid foundations in general - I'm all about the sheer powders & tinted moisturizers now.

Powder -MAC - Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Light Medium [DISCONTINUED]
krystalc 11/29/2011 2:38:00 AM
I absolutely love this product. I use it over concealer as my everyday "foundation". It's not cakey or drying (which, ironically, Studio Fix liquid foundation was for me), but it gives a nice semi-matte luster to my otherwise oily skin. It does need re-applying midday but I can usually get away without. It gives a perfect natural looking finish with light-medium coverage, and it definitely does not break out my very acne prone skin!

Blush -Illamasqua - Hussy
krystalc 9/30/2011 12:26:00 PM
The first time I tried Hussy I applied it lightly in the morning. Much later in the day I glanced at my reflection and was honestly shocked! I couldn't figure out why, despite having a random breakout, my skin looked so glowy and gorgeous! Then I remembered the blush. It's exactly what I was looking for - creamy seamless blending, natural looking and matte but noticeable. Brings much needed life to my dull pale olive skin.

Treatments -LUSH - Henna - Caca Noir
krystalc 8/23/2011 1:04:00 AM
Caca noir takes my thick, shoulder length hair from a dark brown to a natural-looking, healthy, glossy black. One block gives me 3 uses (1 1/2 squares each). Those who complain of the smell/mess are wimps; other than the wait, the process is no worse than any other at-home colour kit. Minus a lippy because of the nature of henna itself. According to my hairdresser, you have to let your henna'd hair entirely grow out before you can bleach it, even if the henna is entirely faded. Black suits me well so I don't plan on dying my hair any time soon, but I'm scared that I might want to eventually!

Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Tinted Lip Balm
krystalc 7/26/2011 1:11:00 PM
I wanted this product to be a non-scary introduction to lip colour, and it fulfilled that purpose well. I think lipstick makes me look like a clown or a little kid playing grownup, and I hate the sticky slickness of glosses. Anyway, I bought this in Rose and it provides a very sheer, natural looking, temporary boost of colour. I get dry lips and I'm used to applying balm throughout the day, so the (lack of) longevity doesn't bother me. The biggest con is the price.

Toners -Thayers - Rose Petal Alcohol Free Witch Hazel
krystalc 7/7/2011 1:39:00 PM
Since my acne improved dramatically after figuring out a regime that works, I've been phasing out products that do more harm (irritating my sensitive, retin-a'd skin) than good. I have previously used proactive toner and neutrogena pore-refining toner. The Thayers toner is noticeably gentler, leaving my skin feeling clean, soft, calm and refreshed, instead of red and irritated. It hasn't broke me out at all, if anything making my skin look healthier and more smooth. The scent is quite strong, but it's growing on me! Edit: went through my first bottle in about 2 months (gave 1/3 away because my mom was nice enough to pick it up for me). The new one has a different smell, fresher maybe?, but it works the same.
