Shampoo -Davines - Melu
klasia 8/2/2012 2:53:00 PM
i used this shampoo in conjunction with Love Conditioner (for harsh and frizzy hair) by Davines. the reason why i bought this shampoo in the first place was because it smelled lovely. faint powdery scent but not overwhelming. also, because it claims that it is ideal for long hair prone to breakage. i have one last use left in the bottle so i can honestly say that this review has been a product of observation spanning a little over 20 months. the suggested period of use is for 12 months only but since i used this once a week, i went waaaay beyond the period (even with help from my 2 little girls). i used this once a week only because it left my hair feeling too "squeaky" for my liking. i'm usually not picky when it comes to my shampoo but this one got me a bit confused. my fault probably but i really thought that a shampoo that claims to be "mellow anti-breakage lustrous shampoo" would leave my hair feeling nourished and smooth after shampooing. instead, it gave my hair the same feeling everytime i used a clarifying shampoo. so there. that's the whole reason why i limited the use of this to just once a week. also, i didn't notice anything new in my hair. not more shine. not any less hair breakage than usual. so, although it was not a bad shampoo, i can't say that it was a good one, too. i looove the packaging though! the plastic bottle it comes in is so soft and squeezable that i am going to re-use the bottle:)! in sum, will not repurchase because its performance does not warrant the price.

Conditioner -Davines - Love Conditioner
klasia 8/2/2012 2:26:00 PM
The reason why i am not going to repurchase this product is because i didn't get the WOW factor (never mind it being expensive) and so i'd rather "gamble" on other products i haven't tried yet. over all, as a conditioner it worked. but it also worked as well as my other conditioners. in short, it didn't stand out. i used this once a week only because i felt it made my hair oily sooner than the 3rd day mark and so with this effect, i treated LOVE as a treatment more than a conditioner. because i used it once a week only, it lasted beyond the suggested12 month period without any changes in how it worked--in fact i used it for a little over 20 months! i just finished using it up 3 days ago: ) i didn't like the plastic tub that it came in. you had to dip your hand in it and after a while, the cover was loose that it wouldn't snap shut. i wish it had come in the soft squeezable bottles the other Davines shampoos (e.g. Melu) came in. the product claims to smooth harsh and frizzy hair and yeah, it delivered to a certain extent. but in smoothing my hair, it also weighed it down in the process so i'm not sure it's the effect that everyone would like. i didn't mind it so much because i always tie my hair or put it up anyway. i liked its powdery scent and my 2 older girls (aged 7 and 5) loved the smell so much. i allowed them to use this once every 2 months. they didn't have any reaction to it which was great. aside from its scent, they loved the color (pink) and they loved that it was called LOVE. the highlight of this product for me is definitely how much joy this has brought to my girls. it made them giggle every time they used it--- which they always look forward to. told them though that i would be buying something else for us to try together. additional notes i have on this product is that it did not break me out. i have acne-prone skin and i'm always careful in observing my skin reactions to products. caution: makes the bathtub really really REALLY SLIPPERY.

Other -Crest - 3D Professional Effects White Strips
klasia 7/22/2012 10:41:00 PM
this product delivers. i've had my teeth professionally bleached by the dentist (they used BriteSmile) and i can say this procedure and the Crest strips are comparable in some way--at least in my experience. if you are not willing to spend 600usd (the professional teeth whitening procedure cost this much here in Manila) and you are in no hurry, then opt for this product instead. before the professional bleaching back in 2007, i used this once in a while (it was still packaged differently then) to brighten my teeth to prevent nicotine (back when i still had the nasty habit) and caffeine stains. the dentist actually was nice enough to tell me that i didn't need any bleaching at all. as far as looking at my teeth, he couldn't believe that i had unhealthy habits---this i give major credit to the Crest whitening strips and the crest whitening mouth rinse i used. its been 5 years since that professional bleaching and i have now begun using this Crest strips again to whiten my teeth and i really see the difference. i am no longer going to go through the tiring hour-long professional bleaching as this does the job well over the course of 2 weeks. slowly but surely... and cheaply, too! will repurchase and repurchase when in need of teeth whitening.

Lip Treatments -eos - Smooth Sphere Organic Lip Balm in Honeysuckle Honeydew
klasia 7/22/2012 9:42:00 PM
i confess. i got this primarily because of the packaging. and i have reason to love how it is! the roundness makes it so much easier to find in my bag; the smoothness (the brand is all about smoothness after all) of it makes it work as a stress ball for me as well; the big dome-shaped balm makes it so easy to apply on the lips even both lips at the same time (if you want!). now to the actual product. to start off, it doesn't taste bad, but the scent is such a letdown. i asked my husband to get it for me so i wasn't able to smell and choose. this particular one in honeysuckle/honeydew smells too plasticky for me. it reminds me of the scent they use on pretty plastic erasers i used back when i was in grade school--so it's totally off-putting! my little girls (aged7,5,2) love the smell though and they've tried using it without any reaction or problem. whether or not it moisturizes, i would have to say it does superficially. i feel that the product sinks little in to your lips and instead most of it stays on top. although i would say it works just the same way blistex lip tone does. i would not buy this particular scent/flavor again but will smell and choose the next time. i find that i'm speeding up the use of this (i use it now for my hands and elbows) to justify getting another scent!

Gels/Soaps -LUSH - Porridge Soap
klasia 7/22/2012 9:08:00 PM
this will be a staple in my shower (together with HoneyIWashedTheKids). i have been using this every other day for about a month and a half now and i love it! i use it primarily as a body exfoliator especially for my backside. it lasts longer and is cheaper than buffy, you snap the whip or aqua mirabilis BUT i must say it is not moisturizing like the latter 3. so, when i want a good scrub i use this AND moisturize after. the smell is just okay because for me nothing compares to HIWTK. i find the coarseness of the oats perfect and what i absolutely love about this is how the suds develop into a soothing cream! p.s. if you are like my husband who is sensitive, you might find the coarseness too harsh. i insisted that he use it and when he did, he immediately complained about how sharp it was. i saw that it left red streaks on his arm and tummy--areas where he tried them. he still goes back to you snap the whip and aqua mirabilis for exfoliation.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Paint Pot in Painterly
klasia 7/22/2012 8:48:00 PM
i wouldn't buy this particular color again but i'd like to buy other colors to try out. it's actually my fault for not testing it out at the counter! i researched on mac paint pots beforehand and the 2 colors that always popped up were rubenesque and painterly. i chose painterly thinking it was more neutral and i'd get more wear out of it. i should've known just by seeing the color (it has a pinkish undertone to it) that it would cast a gray pallor on my lids since i have a yellow undertone (i am nc 30/40). i usually am strict about trying out stuff especially if it costs more than 10usd but the tester just looked so used up and icky that i decided to just gamble and rely on the reviews. now i've learned that reviews are great and dependable up to a certain point only and i really MUST still TRY PUTTING IT ON to see what really looks good on me! since the color didn't suit me, i really had to put eyeshadow to cover it up (i had initial plans on just using a crease color). setting the color choice mistake aside, this product is good. it made shadow color stay remarkably longer and it made the color show so much better. since i have really oily lids, the consistency was great as it "dried" up my lids a bit--probably why my eye shadow lasted for more than 6 hours!

Lipstick -Max Factor - Colour Elixir Lipstick
klasia 7/22/2012 8:28:00 PM
this is such a great lipstick! i got mine in Ruby Tuesday because i wanted to somehow get the quintessential max factor red lipstick. i love it! i just got mine 2 weeks ago and i've been using it everyday because it just brightens up my face. makes my teeth whiter and brighter when i smile, too! this lasts long on the lips- in fact it stayed still looking great after i ate a cheeseburger! after i wiped my lips, i was happily surprised to see that it left an even stain. i tried just putting on lip balm over the stain and it still worked. wow. also, i love that there is no overwhelming scent and taste (as i like to be extra picky with lipsticks when it comes to these 2 points.) the only thing that might give people (just like my sister) issue is the texture. yes, it is creamy and moisturizing but after a while it gives a waxy feel to your lips-especially if you've swiped on quite heavily or after a retouch. but since i am not a stickler for texture, i must say this is one of the best lipsticks i own. recently, i let my mom try it on. her lips are so acidic that she was hesitant to even try it on. she was glad that i convinced her to because her face just got brighter and younger-looking. as regards her acidic lips, the color just deepened into an even more flattering color! i'm telling you this lipstick is great!

Cleansers -Dove - Lathering Oil Make-up Remover
klasia 7/22/2012 5:46:00 AM
i give it a 3 as a make-up remover but a 5 as a brush cleanser! i spotted this in the grocery and i excitedly brought this home to try out. i was a tad disappointed though. it didn't do as it promised. it boasted to "effectively remove even the heaviest of makeup including waterproof mascara, eye makeup and foundation." i followed the easy instructions but really, it couldn't take off the Maybelline falsies mascara i had on and left a bit of foundation. it did clean 80% of my make-up. had to follow up with 3 squares of cotton with Bioderma. what this is good for, i guess, is an initial cleanser. what i tried doing was using this twice to get the deep clean i was looking for. but i only did this a few times because my face ended up too dry and taut (and to think i have oily skin!) i just recently discovered though that this cleans my makeup brushes beautifully, effectively and with so much ease!!! i had bought a bottle of Monda (professional brush cleaner) against my better judgment (it was expensive!) which i stopped using because it smelled of gas which the fragrance couldn't mask. i then used baby shampoo and dishwashing liquid (online suggestions) and they do clean well. but nothing compares to how easily the Dove foam eats up all the oils in the brushes and how quick rinsing is! my brushes smell sooo good, too! i swear you have to try this to see how easy it is! will repurchase for this purpose.

Skincare - Body -Kose - Body Styling Serum
klasia 7/22/2012 4:49:00 AM
i just finished my fourth bottle (in 4 years) of this one and will start my fifth. to be frank, i didn't use this daily but more of "when i felt like it" which turns out to be on an average of 1 bottle (250ml/8.6 oz) per year. to start off, this serum promises to burn and discharge fat, including cellulite. Kose describes this product as a "super form net formula formulation with refreshing after-feel" that "hugs sagging skin to tighten and maintain firmness." i really wasn't so sure how i was going to give a review on this one as it's quite difficult to check/quantify whether or not it has delivered on all its claims especially as fat and cellulite are really dependent on so many variable and factors. i guess will just start off by saying that this really gives you a minty refreshingly hot/cold feeling after you apply it. it does become addicting (if you like that cool feeling products can give). the sensation was something i enjoyed so much that sometimes i made this into a whole body serum as opposed to how i usually use it which was just for my buttocks, thighs and tummy area. the feeling lasts for around 20-30 minutes (30-40 if you apply it after exfoliation--in fact the "minty feel" is heightened if used after exfoliation). as to the promise that it "hugs sagging skin," i didn't feel anything remotely to this or even feel a tightening effect. what i did feel was that the area with the serum was sooo super soft and silky. also, i noticed that the complexion of skin i used it on became so much more even and light (i noticed this around the third bottle i used). as i said earlier, this product is really hard to judge on its claims that it burns fat and cellulite but suffice to say after giving birth to 3 girls (aged 7,5 and 2), this gives me a bit of peace (psychologically speaking at least) that i am doing something about my body other than diet and exercise. i still have cellulite and fat on my buttocks and inner thighs but i have been told by my sisters that my thighs and butt haven't changed much since 8 years ago. i take this as a good thing considering the fact that i've given birth to 3 girls (aged 7,5 and 2) and i share the credit to this serum. when i finish my fifth, will definitely purchase my 6th bottle! p.s. do not use this to take the place of massage oil. i experimented one time and i had a masseuse use this instead of oil and what happened was it all rubbed off and you end up with sticky rubbery gunk all over your body.

Lip Treatments -Maybelline - Baby Lips lip balm
klasia 7/2/2012 6:46:00 AM
i was given one in MENTHOL. i really liked the buttery feel on my lips and it did moisturize my lips BUT it tasted so bad! it has this unnatural, chemicallish (for want of a better term) and bitter taste! i would've really loved to love this because it is cheap but the taste of this was just a deal breaker for me!

Blush -Stila - Convertible Color Fuschia
klasia 7/2/2012 6:27:00 AM
i got this for my 3 little girls who play with makeup (aged: 7,5 and 2). i didn't like the idea of their playing with Barbie products so off we went makeup shopping. they fell in love with this bright pink and i fell in love, too! the kids didn't have any bad reaction nor did it break me out. the color! oh! just gives you that healthy, flushed glow. it is easily spreadable so that you can work out a natural gradation on your cheeks (to mimic a soft blush). it works well as lip color and eye shadow also. and the packaging is so pretty: ) i just realized this is one product that has stayed in my drawer and not in the kids'. love this multi-tasking product!

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in Bamboo Shoot
klasia 7/2/2012 2:37:00 AM
i never thought i'd love it a lot! but now i know this will be one of the permanent colors of polishes i'll have in my drawer. the reason why i love this is because i use it for those days when i want to look as if i'm not wearing polish. i use one coat and it evens out the icky nails (sometimes discolored to a yellow tinge due to polish overuse!). it makes my fingers looks so fresh and clean and healthy!!! i sooo love this one! to top it off, it lasts for a solid 7 days in spite of all the hand-washing i do. love this! love this!

Misc Beauty Tools -E.L.F. - Mechanical Eyelash Curler
klasia 7/2/2012 1:31:00 AM
i gave this one away. it just didn't fit my eyesocket well. i found it a bit too wide and the curve was too high that i found that i had to push it deep into my eyesocket to get all of my lashes ready for crimping. it didn't curl well too. lastly, another thing which annoyed me the most was that it occupied so much space in my drawer because the handles were just too wide open--although it had a clip to keep it's handles close together, the spring of this curler was no match for the plastic clip it came with. i always thought an eyelash curler was an eyelash curler regardless of brand but after using this, i now know better. i had forgotten to bring my shu uemura curler on a trip and this was a temporary replacement. the shu curler which i had always taken for granted i now appreciate more!

Liquid -Make Up For Ever - Mat Velvet PLUS Matifying Foundation
klasia 7/2/2012 1:20:00 AM
this is my go-to foundation. i have really oily skin and this foundation really manages my skin well. this sets on my face about an hour after application and although it starts out matte, after about 4 hours, my makeup starts to look dewy, glowy and healthy which i love. other reasons why i love this: -this never broke me out (i break out sometimes with MAC foundations) -this gives me full coverage without the cakey feel -it receives cream or powder blush really well that i do not need to reapply blush. this has been a staple for me that i have one bottle in my gym bag and another on my makeup dresser. will buy this again and again!
