Palettes -Ulta - Get Gorgeous Blockbuster 69 pc value kit

I bought this for my daughter so we can do "makeovers" at her upcoming slumber party. I figured it would be a fun way to have a lot of makeup to play with for not a lot of money. When it arrived today I totally wanted to steal it and go play with it! The colors all look so pretty and really wearable - maybe a little more sparkle than I would wear on a daily basis - but so fun to mess around with and experiment. The little trunk is so cute - I am totally going to sneak stuff out of here when she isn't looking! A great deal!!

Crème -Cover Girl - Simply Ageless

I wanted to like this. Even went back for a second shade to try again when the first one was WAY too pale. But when the darker shade was still kabuki-like white and the overall effect was ashy and dry...not digging it. Aquasmooth is WAY better. And cheaper!

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Age Shield Face SPF 70
kjbassick 8/4/2008 11:37:00 PM
This definitely can only be worn on a beach/pool day with no makeup. Shiny look and feel. It seems to protect me OK - although I put this on my daughter's face and her nose burned withing under 2 hours of being on the beach. She was in the water a little bit, but it claims to be water and sweat proof. Oh, and if you sweat - it stings. Like, a lot. My son cried when I put it on his face. Not good.

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 70
kjbassick 8/4/2008 11:33:00 PM
I had been using the spray version of this on my kids and it seemed to be working well. We went on vacation and I packed up this cream version - having used the Ultra Sheer in the lower SPFs last year and really liking them... I put this on myself and my kids before heading to the beach. Not sheer. Not dry touch. White, chalky, greasy. Yuck. We were on the beach for maybe 90 minutes. With SPF 70 on. And my daughter and I both were sunburned...what is up with THAT? She was in the water briefly, but this claims to be waterproof. Something is wrong with this picture!! So, didn't like anything about this. Disaster!

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Color Boosting Sunblock SPF 30 with Helioplex
kjbassick 7/19/2008 11:34:00 PM
I think this is the best self-tanner I have ever used. I am extremely pale and anything that adds too much color just looks blatantly fake on me (and the weirdness around the feet that I get regardless of how careful I am doesn't help!) This adds just the tiniest bit of color - which is exactly what I want, to not look glow-in-the-dark white, but not "tan" either. The consistency is great - love the high SPF - non-sticky, I have been using this as an everyday sunscreen and it has no weird smell or strange feel. Completely great!

Lip Gloss -Burt's Bees - Super Shiney Natural Lip Gloss
kjbassick 4/15/2008 2:23:00 PM
When I first apply this, it feels nice and smooth - but within 10 minutes or so it feels kind of dry and tight - so I don't think it is all that moisturizing. The color (I have the pink) is subtle, but pretty. The scent is nice. I find it very difficult to get out of the tube, I am guessing I will only be able to get half of it out before it becomes impossible to squeeze. All in all kind of disappointing.

Hair Color -Clairol - Nice 'n Easy Perfect 10
kjbassick 3/24/2008 2:18:00 PM
I tried this twice. I used the Dark Blonde on my medium-ish brown hair to lighten it up a little and color grays (which I have done successfully with the same shade of Excellence many times). Things I loved: 1. Quicker than usual 2. Doesn't smell bad 3. Leaves hair soft and shiny Things I didn't love: 1. Didn't cover grays The first time I used it just the 10 minutes and NO gray coverage at all (which I should have known...but a girl can dream). Four weeks later I tried again and left it on the gray parts 20 minutes and the grays were toned down, but still pretty clearly there...and they faded right out within a week to be completely uncovered again. So - if you don't need to cover gray - this stuff rocks. But for me...not working...

Styling Products -Aussie - Dual Personality Mousse plus Leave-In Conditioner

I buy these 4 at a time! So cheap, so awesome! My hair is fine and curly and crazy in humidity. This stuff is just the right amount of softening and control that I can calm things down without flattening them out. Not a lot of hold, as noted by other reviewers - but for me, just a little is just right!

Lip Gloss -L'Oreal - Infallible Lipgloss - Modern Mauve
kjbassick 1/3/2008 9:49:00 PM
I was intrigued by a long-wearing gloss and tried this today. The color is pretty, very subtle. The shine does last. But I felt like it was really drying my lips after about 15 minutes and had to put lip balm on top of it. I think this is going back tomorrow.

Conditioner -Clairol - Herbal Essences Breaks Over
kjbassick 8/27/2006 11:02:00 AM
My hair has been looking really fried lately - frizzy, crazy curly, just cooked. In desperation I went looking for something new to try and came back with the whole line of "Breaks Over" - Shampoo, Conditioner and Leave-In conditioner...and, despite being at the beach (the worst situation EVER for my hair) I actually looked good! This stuff smells great - conditions well without leaving any heaviness - and left my hair soft and shiny, no more dry frizziness. Woo Hoo!!

Self Tanners -Neutrogena - Summer Glow Daily Moisturizer
kjbassick 3/28/2006 9:47:00 PM
I was hoping I would like this, due to the SPF20. I am always looking for an everyday lotion with SPF to use in the summer, and since I have been using the Olay Radiance Reviver to take the edge off of my super-pale self this seemed like the best of both rolled together. Felt OK going on. Smelled fine. But by mid-day I noticed quite a change in the color of my legs - much tanner than I would have expected. For most people, this is probably fine - but there is nothing natural about me "tan" - I was really just going for "not so horribly pale" - so I can't quite imagine what the results would be if I apply it a few days in a row... I will probably use this every once in a while just to use it up - but it won't work for everyday. I prefer the Olay version - much more natural result for me. UPDATED: Have used this several times since my initial trial and am really enjoying this now. The lotion is very moisturizing, smells nice, and after that one time, I am not getting drastic color changes, but a nice "glow" which is great.

I didn't notice any difference after using this. My hair felt nice and smooth in the shower immediately after using - but doesn't look any different when dry. I had better results with the John Frieda "Glaze" product...

Powder -Neutrogena - mineral sheers mineral powder foundation-fair to light

I, like many others, stalked this product - visiting drugstores and WalMarts - hoping to find it...three weeks of hunting and I finally found it...triumph! Except - I can't seem to get anything to come out...can't tell if I am doing anything as I shake and brush and shake and brush and finally give up... I was so excited...but I don't get it...

Styling Products -DevaCurl - Angell
kjbassick 10/7/2005 2:02:00 PM
Great stuff for fine, curly hair. I use it along with a blow-dryer and some scrunching action and have no crunchiness...no heaviness...just nice curls with some bounce to them. Feels nice and clean on your hair - very light but holds my curls very well...

Hair -DevaCurl - No Poo
kjbassick 10/7/2005 2:00:00 PM
The whole line of DevaCurl products is the absolute best stuff I have ever used on my fine, curly hair. My stylist recommended this and I went right out and got it and it is totally awesome! People are complaining about the smell of this - I think it is kind of like Philosophy's Purity cleanser - a clean scent, not something I would want to smell all day, but not at all unpleasant. The combination of No-Poo (or Low-Poo if I feel like things really need cleansing), with One Condition and An-gell is the best! I was trying to resist repurchasing (trying to economize) but having fruitlessly worked my way through the drug-store curly-hair options (YIKES!!) I am headed back to order more...
