Powder -Shiseido - Sun Protection Compact Foundation
kfife10 4/29/2012 6:06:00 PM
I just started using this this week, and I'm very impressed. I use Shiseido's Sun Protection Liquid Foundation SPF 42, then use the powder foundation on top of that. I use the liquid foundation is SP40, but the SP40 powder is too dark. I exchanged it for the SP30 powder and it is perfect. This powder is a great addition to the liquid foundation. I have melasma all over my face and it can get pretty dark, so I need a lot of coverage. I read that the powder has a "light" coverage, but I experimented with putting just the powder on my face, with no liquid foundation, and found the powder has a pretty good amount of coverage itself. I don't use the sponge that comes with it; I use that for applying the liquid foundation and I use a compact puff to apply the powder. As other reviewers have said, don't let the dark colors scare you; they apply so much lighter! There are some colors that have some pink in them and there are colors that do not. The SP40 and SP30 have no pink in them, which is what I need to match my light olive face. The SP30 is a perfect match. This really seems to disappear on my face, which means I can put a good amount of powder on and my face doesn't look chalky or powdery at all. My husband remarked on how good my face looks with it. This powder also does a better job of preventing my oil slick of a face from being shiny, much better than what I was using before, which was Neutrogena's Mineral Sheers pressed powder. The Neutrogena is not a bad choice, but I like that the Shiseido powder has an SPF of 34, compared to Neutrogena's at SPF 20. I need to be really diligent about my SPF in order to keep the melasma at bay, and this is a great way to re-apply it during the day. The only con is that I'm used to the compact puff/sponge part being at the bottom of the compact, rather than the top, but I guess I'll just get used to that. This is the most expensive powder I've ever used, but it's worth it. It seems like it's going to last a very long time, and I like that you don't have to buy the case again. This is looking like it will be my HG!

Deodorants -Secret - Clinical Strength
kfife10 4/29/2012 5:45:00 PM
I absolutely love this! For years the only deodorant that worked for me was Lady Speed Stick 24/7, but then it just stopped working for me. Maybe as I've gotten older my body chemistry has changed, I don't know, but it wasn't working the way it used to, and I was getting to feel pretty embarrassed by the afternoon with how I smelled. I had to find something else. I got the Secret Clinical Strength based on the reviews here, and I was an instant convert! I bought the Fresh scent, and I like the scent, nice and not too overpowering, and doesn't interfere with any perfume/body spray I use. I'm on my feet a lot at my job and quite active, plus I work in the top story of a building, meaning it's always hot in there, so this combination has been disastrous for me, until now! Now I can last the whole work day with no underarm sweating and NO bad odor, just the nice Fresh scent. At the end of the day I smell just like I did when I first put it on in the morning. Absolutely fantastic! The only time it has ever failed me so far is the day I found out that someone I knew passed away, but I wouldn't expect anything to work with that kind of stress. I don't care about the price; I would pay much more for it, because it is the ONLY deodorant that works for me. My husband is tired of me talking about it, because I just can't stop raving about it! As everyone has said, it is a bit difficult to get out, but to me it's a tiny price to pay, because the actual product is so perfect for me. :)

Lipstick -MAC - Lipstick in Siss
kfife10 1/7/2012 3:55:00 PM
This is my perfect nude! The reason I love it so much is that it has absolutely NO pink, which is so hard to find in a nude lipstick. I hate the pink in my lips, so I'm always looking for lipsticks with no pink in them, that will cover the pink completely, and this does it. I have a light olive face, and this makes my lips almost disappear, so I generally don't wear it on its own. I always use a lip liner, and I put some gloss over it, and it looks fantastic. My HG nude!

Lipstick -L'Oreal - Color Riche in Cinnamon Toast
kfife10 1/3/2012 10:31:00 PM
This is such a great red lipstick for me! For reference, I have light olive skin, and L'Oreal's Sunset Red, which is one of their darker reds, is too bright for my taste. This is such a gorgeous brownish-red that I can wear anytime with anything. It is a creamy, deeply pigmented color that doesn't bleed, although it transfers easily, but all the Color Riches do, in my experience. I don't mind that, because I don't mind touching up this gorgeous color!

Lipstick -L'Oreal - Colour Riche - Ginger Spice 815 lipstick
kfife10 1/3/2012 10:17:00 PM
This is my go-to lipstick! It is a rich medium brown with absolutely no pink in it, which can be hard to find in drugstore brands. This color goes really well with my light olive face and dark brown hair. I know that when I use Ginger Spice I will be happy with my lip color!

Hair Styling Tools -Conair - Mini Straightener
kfife10 12/15/2011 11:55:00 PM
I bought this on impulse because it was on sale, and it looked super-cute being so tiny. I really didn't put a lot of expectation on it. It took a little getting used to because the plates are so small, but I find it works fine. It will never replace my larger Conair flat iron, but I never meant it to. It's great for short pieces of hair. Honestly, I don't really need this, but it's so dang cute and it does work, so I wanted to give it a good review. I also love the cute bag it comes with! I'm sure it will be great for travel.

Styling Products -John Frieda - Luxurious Volume Lavish Lift Root Booster
kfife10 11/15/2011 2:30:00 PM
I really love this. I have a lot of semi-fine, dry, curly hair, cut into an A-line bob. I first should say that my hair responds really well to many volumizing products. Also, I like my hair to have a rougher, messy texture. This stuff works great for me. Here is what I do: I spray it onto my hands, not my hair. Then I massage it into my damp hair. I also use John Frieda's thickening mousse, and tend to also put in Garnier Fructis' curling spray gel, so I'm not using this product alone. Then I dry my hair upside down for a while, until it is almost dry, then finish drying it by scrunching and teasing it with my fingers until it is really dry. I can really tell the difference when I dry my hair with the other products without this root booster, and the difference when I add this root booster. It gives me an extra ooomph and keeps my hair volumized. Will definitely re-purchase.

Lipstick -Jordana - Matte Lipstick
kfife10 10/2/2011 11:52:00 PM
I LOVE these lipsticks! My fave is Matte Brazil, which is a rusty-red color. If you can't find these at a drugstore or dollar store near you, go to the Jordana website. The cost of shipping is worth it, because you're paying so little as it is, and you can afford to risk trying a new color. Pros: Great matte texture, dirt cheap, lots of different colors on the website, great staying power Cons: A bit drying (just be prepared and use lip balm or moisturizer), package looks cheap, can be hard to find in stores For me, the pros outweigh the cons of this lipstick. Outside of the Jordana website, I don't think I've ever seen any advertising for them. I first heard of them through the reviews here, and I'm so grateful!
