Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Colossal
rated 1 of 5

I think this could probably be one of the worst mascaras i have ever used. I have used better no brand mascaras from cheapo gift packs!! Its a shame as i got so excited about buying it...the name 'Colossal' cinched it for me and i imagined having lashes so lush that no man could resist me fluttering them his way...hmmmm... more likely he would run screaming the other way after seeing me wearing this stuff. It went on horribly, all bitty and clumpy which was a bitch to comb out. After a while it started to flake everywhere, and i mean EVERYWHERE. Bits got in my eyes and my eyes were watering like mad. After a whole day wearing it, i looked like i could be in an Alice Cooper tribute band. Which generally isnt the type of look i go for? This mascara is not hard wearing, so i suggest whilst wearing it you must never EVER blink...or even better, never move your face. This is going in the bin now. Bye bye!

Mascara -Bourjois - Effet Liner Mascara
rated 2 of 5
kellydfa 12/16/2008 8:38:00 AM

I bought this as it looked fabulous on the advert. I must admit i was a bit dubious about the 'eyeliner' claim but i went out and purchased it anyway. Initially i thought the brush looked a bit too comb like, as i prefer bushier brushes that you can work the product into your eyelashes with. When i first tried it the mascara was really runny and went everywhere. I found it really hard to control. I decided to use a bit of tissue to wipe the wand with and then it went on alot easier, i did have to apply quite a few layers to get the desired effect. The black is lovely and intense and made my eyes pop. So over-all i found this mascara to have good and bad points equally. It just depends what your looking for in a mascara (colour/brush/consistency etc) I would like to add that this isnt a mascara you can swipe and go, you need to take a bit of time to apply it properly or it will smudge everywhere. I don't think i will be buying this product again as it wasnt anywhere near my idea of a HG mascara. I think i prefer bristle type mascara wands to these fiddly plastic comb ones.

Liquid -Rimmel - Lasting Finish Enriched w/ Minerals
rated 4 of 5
kellydfa 11/24/2008 8:12:00 AM

I didnt like this foundation when i first put it on (won it from a competition on the rimmel website). It had a strange gel like consistency and it seemed kind of 'sticky'. I applied it anyway and my skin looked lovely and dewy as it has a semi-matte finish. The coverage is medium and looks good on my skin, even though i suffered from acne as a teen and have light scarring (blotchy and uneven, meh!). Somedays when i want a bit more heavy duty coverage i put a very, very thin layer of a different foundation under this (No 7 Mousse foundation is what i use) and then put the rimmel one over the top, so the result is flawless skin with a dewy, healthy finish. I find putting a concealer over the top doesnt work too well for me as i have very oily skin and it seemed to 'slip' off the foundation? Probably just me though, haha! It lasted quite a resonable while, although as per usual my nose turned into an oil slick after a few hours but thats probably because i have such incredibly oily- acne prone skin. It certainly wouldnt last 16 hours on me but it last a fair bit longer than lots of foundations four times its price so it's well worth the money. Oh, and this foundation didnt seem to break me out or block my pores. The colour selection wasnt too impressive but i managed to find a match in ivory, which seemed darker than other ivory shades in different brands. For this reason i don't know if very pale girls would find a match. Also if i was being extra, extra fussy i would like them to do a few more yellow toned shades as my skin is very yellowy. I didnt mind the smell (unusual, but not unbearable at all) as its such a lovely foundation. Recommended, especially as it's no great loss if it doesnt agree with you as its such a bragain!!!

Concealers -L'Oreal - Infallible Concealer
rated 3 of 5
kellydfa 11/12/2008 8:22:00 AM

This is the concealer i am currently using. Colour match for a high street brand was quite good. I need quite yellow toned foundation and concealer and even though this wasnt quite yellow (sallow!) enough it was still better than a lot of brands out there with i either find too pink/beige or orange. The product itself was a little thin for blemish coverage, like spots and scars but was fine for evening out a little dicolouration or pigmentation. It went on very smoothly and blended well but after a few hours i noticed it began to slide on the oilier areas of my face, which i was disappointed about. I put in on at about 8am and I had to reapply by the early afternoon which is about average for most concealers i use. I dont think i would repurchase this as i am constantaly on the look out for better things and love to try out new products...much to the disapointment of my purse and boyfriend! This concealer certainly isnt infallible and does not last 16 hours, perhaps it would be better on the less oily skinned ladies out there? Overall it is quite a nice lower priced concealer that is neither horrific of amazing.

Powder -Prestige - Skin Loving Minerals Gentle Finish Mineral Powder Foundation
rated 3 of 5
kellydfa 11/12/2008 7:58:00 AM

I bought this after reading about it on here. I mostly use liquid or creme foundations but about a year ago i decided to try BE mineral foundation and hated it. Made my face look sweaty and it was itchy as hell. Not good. So after this flirt with mineral foundation i happily went back to my liquids. But all of a sudden it seemed Mineral foundations boomed! Out of no where every brand was bringing out their own from high end brands to high street. I started to wonder if i was a bit too hasty dismissing mineral powder foundations so i thought i would give it another go. I reserched long and hard on here before i bought the one i like the look of...Prestige was my choice. Firstly i bought the wrong shade...way too orange. Gave that to my mum and went back to get the next shade down. I liked it much better than BE and it seemed to make my uneven skintone look somewhat better but it just didnt have enough coverage to hide my uneven skin and old acne scars. I tried to build it up slowly but it still caked and looked un-natural. I tried it with a very thin veil of concealer underneth and this seemed to help alot as i didnt need to put on as much mineral powder. And i was quite pleased with the results. So i am still wearing it for work but for the evenings when i go out i like to wear the new Rimmel Minerals lasting foundation (won it in a competition on the Rimmel website), which is quite good also. Overall i think it is a good foundation but more so for people with less to cover up unlike me. :(

Foundations -Unlisted Brand - Barbara Daly for Tesco Oil Free Foundation
rated 5 of 5
kellydfa 11/5/2008 9:13:00 AM

Barbara Daly make-up is one of my favourites and avaliable in Tesco's stores everywhere is Britain and is very well priced (foundation is about £6, concealer is £3.50). I love this foundation, very natural and lightweight but also very buildable coverage. I am always experimenting with new foundations, some extremely expensive but always end up coming back to this. I also highly reccommend the concealer as it has such amazing full coverage that is great for bigger blemishes, i wouldnt do without it now. The colour range is great for me as i have fair/medium yellow toned skin and find the shade 'almond' in the foundation perfect. The concealers only come in three shades, fair medium and dark. The dark isnt that dark either as i wear it in summer. Such a great and inexpensive range. The only problem i can see is it hasn't got any shades for much darker/black skin, which is a shame.

Stick -Max Factor - PAN - STICK
rated 2 of 5
kellydfa 10/17/2008 7:35:00 AM

I agree with the last comment. The colour range is just too narrow. They don't seem to cater for people with yellow toned skin, which is a shame as i would love to be able to try out some max factor foundations like this one and miracle touch etc as i've heard some decent reviews. I've had many a debate with myself next to the make-up counter, considering if i could get away with any of the shades but they are just way too off my skintone to give it a go. :( Such a shame!

Fragrances -Ghost - deep night
rated 5 of 5
kellydfa 10/23/2007 9:03:00 PM

This is one of my all time favourite perfumes. I love the heady, sexy scent and i find it very distinctive and always get compliments off men whenever i wear it! It can have the ability to be a little overpowering if you over spritz, as not much is needed. Love this perfume and the bottle is just gorgeous, as another reviewer said very Gothic.

Loose Powders -BeneFit Cosmetics - Bluff Dust
rated 4 of 5
kellydfa 10/23/2007 8:54:00 PM

I bought this powder last year and have recently ran out and i will certainly be purchasing it again. I found the powder scary looking at first, being bright yellow but once i dusted a little on i loved it! I have a problem finding make-up with a yellow enough tone and this dusted over my foundation evened out the shade of the foundation for me so it looked a lot more natural. It wasn't the best in its oil absorbing properties but i didn't care as i found the other benefits outweighed this, i just used oil absorbing sheets or a little compact powder in the oily areas. It is not convenient for on the move- being a loose powder but i found that loading up a brush with it on was enough to get me through the day. It was a very finely milled powder which didn't look cakey on reapply.

Bronzers -BeneFit Cosmetics - HOOLA
rated 3 of 5
kellydfa 10/23/2007 8:41:00 PM

This product is quite expensive, the type of product i would want but not be able to justify spending the money on. Luckily for me i got bought it as a gift. The packaging was lovely- and looks good in my room. Not that all i do with my make-up is display it! Having first tried it i was impressed with its mattness. I am not a fan of shimmery bronzers at all and find they just look tacky on me. I prefer to just use a little highlighter after instead. The brush it came with was not the best to use and i found using your own brush provided much better results. The bronzer itself was okay. Not the best i have tried. I found that it could be quite dirty looking if you put it on badly or haven't put your make-up on underneath very well. I just needed a touch as it was quite dark on me. The tone was nice, and not too orangey which was also good. I found it defined my cheekbones nicely when i sweeped a little under them.

Mascara -BeneFit Cosmetics - BADgal Lash
rated 3 of 5
kellydfa 10/23/2007 8:31:00 PM

I got recommended this mascara by a friend who said it was the best mascara she had ever used. So on this promise, i eagerly went out to purchase said miracle product. Having bought it, i was impressed with the packaging and kitsch name but that was about it. I dont know if they aim this mascara specifically for people with huge Bambi eyes, but my average sized peepers just couldn't take the gigantic brush!! I just couldn't work it down to the roots without making my surrounding eye area black also but by god did i try as the price of this product wasn't the cheapest! Once the mascara was on it was okay- but not worth the in initial hassle. Good for people with nice big eyes.

Powder -Bare Escentuals - Bare Minerals ALL
rated 2 of 5
kellydfa 10/23/2007 8:12:00 PM

I must admit- seeing this product advertised i got more than a little excited! Suffering from mild acne and having sensitive skin, this stuff seemed too good to be true....and for me unfortunately, it was. I so wanted to like this product as everybody raves about it but no matter how i used it, it just didn't work for me. The colour matches were very good i must admit. I find it hard to find a fair foundation with a strong yellow tone, but i had no problems with Bare Minerals- the colour was spot on. Having first put it on- in the way they recommended, by 'buffing' it onto my face with the brush, i found that my acne and scars didn't get covered much at all and the powder had a very glowy, shimmery look, which enhanced my bad skin. Throughout the day my oily skin began to break through and my shimmery face just looked sweaty! Not too attractive! Needless to say after a while i got fed up and gave it away to my mother and she having much clearer and less oily skin loved it and i must admit it gave her a lovely glow. So all in all a good product for people with good skin. Unfortunately that's not me!

Concealers -Ruby & Millie - Concealer Duo
rated 4 of 5
kellydfa 10/23/2007 7:56:00 PM

This concealer has to be my current favourite. Having spent a lot of money searching for a good coverage concealer that doesn't look cakey and obvious, i was beginning to give up hope that i would find a suitable product for my acne scarred skin. It felt lightweight and natural on my face and with a little powder lasted without discolouring or going patchy. This concealer has a good range of colours/tones, my skin is fair with yellow tones and i found an exact match. Each concealer comes with two shades, so going from winter to summer when your skin tone changes is easily adapted to by mixing the shades. The price is not the cheapest around for a student like myself but it was worth it for such a good product.
